Living Rent-Free

There’s only one thing better than a terrific win to build the confidence for the two weeks ahead, and that’s getting the terrific win and winding up your biggest rivals at the same time. Saturday was one of our best performances this season, albeit we had a ropey start which only lasted as long as it took to get our first corner after three minutes. We’ve waited a while for the team to gel all over the pitch.

I won’t dwell on the specifics of the match itself,we’ve all seen it in one form or the other, but it was just the right time for Kyogo to look as sharp as ever, and for Reo and CalMac to step up in the midfield,as good as ever, and lend Matt a hand. Jamesie was playing like a teenager, and the return of Maeda will be giving Tavpen nightmares until Saturday and hopefully beyond. All in all,a smashing performance that left little for even Naismith-or Boyd at Sky-to complain about.

Post-match,our manager congratulated his players on a job well done, then when asked about next weekend said that we will go out and have some fun. Oh,cue the outrage as blue and orange flame erupted from Ibrox and on their social media sites. It was a joy to behold, and the manager knew exactly what he was saying and doing. Six points behind,R2ngers knew they couldn’t slip up against Kilmarnock and promptly lost an early goal! VAR then intervened to give them a chance to equalise with the obligatory penalty which Tavpen contrived to miss. Maybe he gets so much practice at them that there is too much footage available for opposing keepers to study,I dunno. But they got an equaliser with the last kick of a marathon first half, and then that was really game over. Killie were down to ten men after the earlier penalty, and already dead on their feet.

Clement had a post-match rant or six at BR’s earlier fun comment by calling it disrespectful to his team. Disrespectful is his favourite word these days,as presumably even the huns know that dignity can no longer be mentioned with a straight face. In fact,he rattled on about it for so long that you could just picture our boss rolling about on the floor in laughter. Living in his head rent-free,indeed. A superb bit of gamesmanship from him, turning the clueless Belgian apoplectic.

In fairness to the Belgian,English isn’t his first language. Maybe he would express himself better in his native tongue. If that’s the case,I doubt he would have made the following comment about an earlier penalty claim:-

“I don’t know what was said from the VAR. If they call the referee to come and see it and they think it was a penalty, I think we decided it was not a penalty. That was strange for me, if you compare with the penalties we get against over the last couple of months, like Kilmarnock here at home.”

At first,I thought he was talking about a softsoftsoft penalty they got earlier in the season against Killie, but he was mouthing off about one awarded against them. But you could be charitable and say that he was calling for consistency. Which is the last thing his side needs, but you can see his point. Especially if taken to the extremes.

Yes,the fact that his team get dodgy penalties on a regular basis means that they should get them all the time. That’s what he’s saying, innit? It wouldn’t be advisable to expand on that point too much. It’s certainly not one which I would use as a reference point in an argument. And the incident in question on Sunday? That VAR summoned the referee to the monitor should have meant a couple of sackings in the morning, and the main VAR official Steven Kirkland has some form for it already. It won’t though,as we already know.

We move on now to Saturday, even if Clement can’t move on FROM Saturday! Their brownnosing bluenose pals in the media know he has already lost that battle, and are taking up the cudgels on his behalf. Watch the bad news stories hitting the sports pages in the build-up as everything in the Ibrox garden is reported as sooperdooper fine and dandy.

They got off to a fine start with some nonsense about the real reason why G-Mak left sixteen months ago-apparently he wanted more money, and the Scottish weather was shit. Well, pardon me for pointing out that it might have been worth googling the Glasgow weather before signing a five year contract. And that contract improvement after only one year is almost unheard of. Pardon me also for pointing out the obvious fact that this is hardly newsworthy, that it smacks of the kind of nonsense being saved specifically for its timing rather than any genuine new information. And anyway, how many fans CGAF about why a former player left,or even how his career is doing since? Personally, only Henrik and Stan get that honour from me this century. And that, only grudgingly.

Same goes for the exclusive that 18yo Daniel Kelly still hasn’t signed a new contract-that story hasn’t changed since he made his debut. Club and player are still in discussions, and while I’d prefer him to sign I won’t be spitting feathers if he doesn’t. Don’t be fooled, these are not examples of the press giving it their best shot. Today saw only the opening salvoes as they grind their brain cells to come up with the negatives in time for the kick off, things like the DR telling us that the manager has still to win over the sizeable chunk of the fan base who never wanted him back, etc.

Thing is,in these days of the internet the word on the street is no longer the word printed in the morning papers. Few people anymore rely on the printed word for their news, views and opinions. Not now,and not for quite some time. They can spin all they want, dig up old stories till the cows come home. Fabricate, dissemble or lie for all we care. News of all sorts is available online,on twitter and the like,on umpteen dedicated news and sports channels. Long gone are the days when a front page like Thugs and Thieves is still held as gospel by so many, despite the DR-again-paying a substantial sum in damages. They damaged their brands irrevocably and irretrievably long ago,and are now little more than a laughing stock.

Newspaper fabrications no longer mess with the heads of the fans or the players in the lead up to a big game. The baton has been passed to social media and sports tv sites. And BR played a blinder on Saturday, just as much as his players had earlier in the day. And the ease with which he did it,the extent to which Clement bit, suggests that he has a new toy to play with. Watching a master craftsman at work can be such a joy,you know.

Just Brendan’s fifth Hun manager in opposition.
Over two spells.

And as he is quoted- “each time they were coming for us”.

I see a trend developing!

This week it’s all about the psychological, we are ready physically.

I expect a mention of high quality refereeing towards the end of the week and putting the focus on the officials.

Good morning, friends.
A few weeks ago Brendan was being earmarked for a prison sentence for daring to finish an interview with “good girl”. It didn’t work then and it wont work with his ‘have some fun’ comment either. Brendan has slowly and carefully been doing this throughout the season.
From his initial appointment when he recognised he wasnt universally welcomed (and that included me) but said ‘see you in May’. Then , around of the turn of the year he said something about always being told ‘R2ngers are coming’ but he has seen them off time and time again. The ‘we will write our own story’ was the best of all though and that’s what we appear to be doing.
So, when did my own feelings about Brendan change? It was actually a sermon at Mass around September wot did it! A sermon about us all saying the Our Father every time we are at Mass, but do we really think about the deal we are proposing when we ask for forgiveness for our sins IN EXCHCHANGE for us forgiving our own enemies – “and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us”. So, no point in me saying that to God every day if I dont then live it out! Brendan’s fist departure was disgraceful. But it’s gone, and I’m now delighted he’s our boss.
There endeth the lesson. Aff out to batter a golf ball several dozen times!
Oh and 4 more sleeps. Kick off is in 100 hours.

If anyone still harbours ill feeling towards BR after this season of poisonous governance they must have very dark souls.
One or two in our regular group can be uncharitable but even they see a carrot at the end of the tunnel.

I am known as not a great fan of Brendan and his coaching philosophy.
But I certainly don’t harbour any ill feelings about him.
I do agree he has faced adversity from our board , mssm and SFA cheats this season so if he wins the league deserves great praise.

Surprised at Collum getting the gig. Not so much at McLean, who I think is the worst of them.

May 7, 2024 11:10 am

2 thoughts.

I hope Brendan hasn’t given them the extra fire they need. I love it when the opposition winds us up.

Have they conceded so have put Collum in place to take the blame.

They are club founded on hate.

Their fans main happiness in life derives, not from Rangers winning, but on Celtic losing.

Thankfully, we don’t do it all too often, but as a Hun player it must be noticeable that their bigoted and racist fan base hates an opponent more than it loves their own. It’s a truly unique club in the that respect. Hence, when the defeats come their way, all hell breaks loose.

Ludge VAR / Ludge MIB — Govan FC support …

Probably aim for a draw on Saturday.
Bush-whack us on the plastic at Kille on the Wednesday.
Goal fest on the final day for their favourites to get them over the line.

My thoughts — that will be their plan.
Too much stuff on Saturday would probably be too obvious.
They have wrung the cloth dry and they are starting to make mistakes.

If they had brains — that would be the way to do it.
However given the subtlety of their efforts this season they don’t have many.
So they might double down and go all in — better to be hung for a sheep as a lamb so to speak.

Back to work.

Keeping Walsh -Beaton and Nicholson for the cup final. In Collum’s last 10 derbies we have only lost one. He is their perfect scapegoat if they lose.
Let’s hope it happens to shut the whole mob down.
Read yesterday Ashley is after 9.5 mil through Elite sports contract still. Huns claiming 350k expenses for lawyers etc. Maybe that wee shite can actually Bury them too.

Unfortunately we will not see them disappear a second time.
A Butland sale will help cover litigation costs and they will go back to their tried and trusted MO of share confetti as far as FSR allows.

No one owed is likely to incur the wrath of hundom by calling in their soft loans.

Please spare a thought and prayer for my wee grandson, aged 7, who is having an op. to introduce an implant in his ear, as we speak. This is the second attempt, the first had a clitch. The scalpel went through his skull and punctured his brain sack. Hopefully, the surgeon will take better care this time.

We can use all the goodwill we can get! I know, I know…it is not rational, but…..

Just heard, the op went well. The implant is in and works. They do not turn it on for a month to allow healing. There was some nerve damage but that happens in 25% of such cases and usually heals nicely. The hole in his skull that they made last time has almost completely sealed by new bone. All in two months.

Thank you everyone! This is truly a welcoming place.
