The Dosh Derby

Theres a game on today. In the East end of Glasgow 44 legs plus shall kick a piece of leather around a field for an hour and a half or so.
Doesn’t sound like much, but soo much rides on the result.
There’s a bit of metal awaiting the victors, some pride and bragging rights not to mention the history books being adjusted,,,however this also happens to be the most lucrative game ever played on Scottish soil.

With sixty million Euros on offer, or 666k per minute, such spoils have never before been riding on one single clash. For RIFC that’s around one whole years turnover, for Celtic (when taken alongside expected fees incoming and bank balance) this one game offers the opportunity to have amassed close to the staggering sum of 200 million.
Financially, the stakes have literally never been higher.

That summer clearout and upgrades arriving under a new head scout, covered. Brendan’s hiring and all those long term contracts, paid off multiple times. The desired European impact, affordable.
Across the city it would be a lifeline of epic proportions enabling the withdrawal from UEFAs FSR watchlist, the paying back of directors loans, and investment in the squad with the aim of repeating the lucrative feat.
There’s a lot of money riding on this game.
But this clash isnt about the balance sheets, that’s an unfair contest. One died under the burden of debt, the other club doesn’t know it and if managed sensibly never will onwards.

Today could be lucrative, very lucrative, but it’s also about soo much more.
It’s about a departing English man (voluntarily not deported), about a prodigal son absolutely desperate to prove his worth to those he walked out on previously, it’s about an unlikely Captain who has stepped up to the plate everytime so far.

It’s about standing upto racism, the scourge that has provided an all home support whether others admit it or not.
It’s about our Asian players, today is the reason we recruited them, why they would have decided to cross the world and perform in Scotland, for games such as this. It’s about laying down a marker on many fronts.
For the Cup Final.
To Hampden, to every matchday official, especially to Crawford Allen.
To Phillipe, whose head swoll amidst platitudes.
To Celtic fans everywhere in the world, sending a message that we are the top dogs in the land and intend to keep it that way, that you support the Champions and can be proud of that fact, that we’ve got something special here once again.

Today is the reason we fell in love with football. All season long we experience the peaks and troughs of following our beloved team, share the ups and downs, and ultimately hope it was all worth it.
That precious hope shall either be quashed or realized, today. No one at the outset realized basically our entire season would rest on a final furlong winner takes all derby,. The agony or ecstasy, the do or die aspect, the personalities involved and their indivual stories, overcoming the twelfth man and hopefully sending the old referee posse into retirement under a new boss with the biggest win yet.
Both managers reputation on the line.
It might be a gamechanger in Scottish football given the high stakes. It will be an ‘I was there’ match that shall live long in the memory, no matter the outcome.
Today is what football and supporting a team is all about.

It’s at this stage I ask the head to take over the heart and actually think about the game.
For starters a fast start by the opposition ala Hearts last week is a probable opposition tactic, as is putting a tall right winger up against Greg Taylor, in line for a new contract.
That’s where the atmosphere, Brendan’s tactics, and the Captains huddle come into it.

My glass half full mentality tells me that even if we go behind or need a goal, the support shall urge, nae demand, the team goes forward. That’s very unlike Ibrox. We will score (these games don’t end scoreless anymore), and with a makeshift defense for them the only question is how many for us and how many for them?
On that point I’m certainly not hoping any of their individual players are out. The opposite infact. But yet I’m sure the sight of our first choice eleven upsets our opponents who a, cannot say the same and b, cannot live with our first string on song.

Today isn’t just a game, it’s the perfect stage for a statement. And this squad has many statements to make. If Matt wants that big move, do it in the big games, and they don’t get much bigger. If Jamesy wants legendary status, do the business today and you’re within touching distance. If Maeda scores I don’t care about his first touch anymore. If Kyogo crushes them again he’s worth another fresh contract and pay rise.
If Joe wants this final spell between the sticks to end happily, here’s the stage.
From “I’m gonna be a bit selfish here” to “I’ll see you in May”, we find ourselves one momentus game away from reaching out for the title. Against them. It couldn’t be scripted, the stars have aligned, destiny and hero status awaits.

We are a club founded to give back to the community, and today that communities hopes and dreams rest upon that very club, Brother Walfrids most noble and fitting vision. He wanted to feed the hungry, today his baby shall feed our dreams and spirit.
Today his vision WILL be fulfilled.
Glasgow Celtic, the pride of Ireland, infront of a stadium packed only with the faithful, WILL make him and us proud.
Today is our day.
We WILL always write our own story, just ask Inter.
Stay safe everyone, and remember this day.

Up The Hoops!

Brilliant lead article, Mahe. Let’s just do it, Celtic. Hopefully, our 3 Hunskelpers-Maeda, Kyogo and Hatate-will be on top form.

Morning all, the early week positivity has slid into full on pre match nerves now for me. Any win will do but a going into the latter stages well clear would be muchly appreciated lol.

That’s as it should be. No overconfidence. Let’s hope the Bhoys go out and do a thoroughly professional job today.

Quite simply the crowd to blow them away before the first whistle, an early stranglehold on the match and enjoy their pain as we are roared on to the title.

The pretendy Gers to realise their rightful place is behind Glasgow’s Green and White.

I reckon you speak for a great many of us. All the bluster and bullishness evaporates as we get closer to the kick off. But I know I’d rather be three points clear and playing them at home than three points behind and playing them away. I’ll focus on that for the next six or seven hours!

Good morning friends and a Big Happy Glasgow Derby Saturday Matchday to all who post or lurk on this fine site.
The Zombies probably only have 3 tactics for today.
1. Make us play the ‘wrong way’ in the first half.
2. Take kick off and launch the ball high towards Greg Taylor.
3. Blooter everything forward at all times.
We are the Champions and let’s show why, today.
4 and a half hours till kick off. With a wee ParkRun to distract me for part if that time 😉

Just win Celtic. Good luck today Bhoys, those of you attending have a huge part to play, give it your all and we can be heroes again.

May 11, 2024 9:51 am

Not been on in a while. A variety of personal issues intervened – some good and some less so although I am now more optimistic on the health of the person concerned than I was 2 weeks ago.

Working this morning but should be able to go.
I did not think Brendan Rodgers’ ‘fun’ remark was any kind of slight but Auld Baldy Heid (copyright Lavinia Derwent c1967) seems as sensitive as any of his predecessors at least.

I do think we are a better side than they are overall – the three derbies so far are evidence for that thought- but although we were terrific against Hearts we have not IMO played well in consecutive games since the January break- we do look fitter than a month ago which is very encouraging

Historically we have , at best, a mixed record in tight league races. We have been very good front runners and in 1986 and 2008 were great coming through on the rails- but in the years when the lead/ascendancy has changed hands regularly we have blown it several times. I do in fact think we will win overall but think this could be a nervy week

Enjoy the game

Just a wee aside, 2 Essex teams play at Wembley in the final of the FA Vase. Great Wakering Rovers, who play in green and white are playing Romford, who play in blue. Come on GWR.

May 11, 2024 10:56 am

Our crowd has to be very patient today. Hatate has to stop giving the ball away. We have to be switched on to them hitting the deck at every opportunity within our half to allow for the high ball punt to the far post and the central Tavpen free kick. If the bhoys don’t get overwhelmed/overawed by the occasion. 3.1 winners

Team — message being sent out.
BR is not subtle — quite a few “not wanted on voyage” stickers handed out..

Thoughts on the game — memories of Sep 2019 come to mind.
Bookie friendly game where one team did not turn up.

We are at home / showing good form / we are the better team — so what could possibly go wrong?

Main issue is that we cannot lose the league today but they can.
Huge pressure — will they wilt or will they step up?

Normality — we win a tough game through quality / endeavour.
SPL reality — Ludge VAR / Ludge MIB take centre stage.
Anything is possible — they have no shame / they are desperate.

Book early / book often is a given.
Dodgy penalty is a probability.
Sending off is a possibility.
Civil insurrection !!!???!!!

Govan FC — Ropey defence / limited but all action M/F / lumpy attack.
RC on recent form would take three off them.
Couch not required.

Football — game of small margins.
We turn up — we win.

100% agree with you about McLean.

Sept 2019,we beat them 2-0 at Ibrox. Sept 2020 is the one I think you mean. And rightly so,we were garbage, not even a shot on target all day. Don’t think we had any shots on goal at all.

May 11, 2024 12:29 pm
