Make mine’s a double!

We all love a bit of banter, usually at a certain club or their supporters expense. Today could be realization day across the way, the fact they aren’t that close to us on or off the pitch, and sometimes reality hurts. Some lash out when in pain, and this hasn’t been helped by one rag portraying the Tims as the bad guys for statistically less than normal arrests for the assembled number post receiving the title. That rag is the poster boy for double standards, as the Manchester riots would have provided weeks if not months of indepth personal tales of the trauma thst day, yet I don’t recall one single copper being asked for their account at that time, for Scottish readers to actually try and understand how out of hand the situation became. The bastards have stoked the fires for today, unforgivable. It’s more than likely not their friends, family or acquaintances on the line, so they couldn’t give a f#$k. I certainly do, every Tim is precious, so no matter what happens please be careful, stay with a crowd, keep your wits about you.
It’s terrible to be concerned for safety any game but especially Cup Final Day, however given the mixed crowd, the high stakes, and the date itself, I do have some concerns. No matter where you watch the game, get home safe.

I’ve no concerns about what happens on the field of play though. That story we were writing needs completed, and it’s not in Celtics DNA to pen unhappy endings. Not on this date, one that is synonymous with our footballing pinnacle that cemented us amongst the world’s great footballing institutions.

Hindsights a wonderful thing, in the pre season predictor I awarded the League Cup to Celtic and the Scottish Cup to our rivals. I now realize those who win the League should use that momentum to lift the bigger trophy at the end of the season, those in less transition should lift the first trophy of the campaign. In my defense, at the time of predicting, the summer flops hadn’t yet been shown flops and little did I realize there was a core of 16 or so judged worthy to play in the Hoops for Brendan.

That very same core have one final hoorah today, and then the beach calls. In some cases, retirement and other clubs in other leagues will come calling also. I feel mentally exhausted by the season, it was such a long hard slog but rewarding as we are officially the best in the land after that tussle, so one last win please Bhoys is a lot easier to type than to produce I have no doubt.

But produce they must, and thankfully they have quite a few reasons to do just that.
The date has been mentioned, it’s sacred, we win Cups on this date, no more needs said regarding how special a date the 25th of May will be for every Celtic supporter.
But Calmac’s a natural Celtic supporter, as is Tony Ralston, as is Liam Scales, Forrest, Rodgers, Kelly, probably others.
There’s people in that dressing room to impart the importance to others, it’s not just in the history books but in hearts.

Even setting aside the date there’s stories galore.
Greg Taylor has been our only left back so to speak, next to zero rest including the Champions League, he must be shattered, yet he could be the left back who won a double, held that position together successfully and almost singlehandedly.
Big Cam, a natural winner, has won every League he has seen in the Hoops, and most Cups. Here’s his chance to be our greatest defender statistically of recent tines.
Liam can do the quadruple,,break into team, get wanted and sign new contract, win the League, only one more victory to fully round off a dream year for the Irishman.
AJ and Tony are winners, the latter will play out of his skin in a final, the former wants to continue filling out that trophy cabinet plus convince Brendan he’s the man in that position.

Callum, would I be correct in stating he hasn’t lost a Cup Final yet as Captain? Nuff said.
Reo, needs to convince Brendan and what an opportunity to do so.
On Matt I’ve two thoughts. If staying, bang in a couple, set up another, signal once again ‘I’m the man’ and ask for a new contract and pay rise.
If going, firstly say goodbye properly on the pitch, and signal your admirers that you produce in the big games.

Daizen, this has truly been his turnaround season, now we all know his true worth. He’s in danger of becoming a cult hero, he scores today, he will be.
James has two missions. Reach the Euros, become our most successful player ever via trophy haul. Plus he just admitted he’s loving his renaissance.
Kyogo now has competition for the first time, and some doubt over his adaptability, so he needs to show Brendan he’s worthy of starting.
Idah needs to show he’s worthy of signing. Double trouble (for the opposition) up top, a friendly rivalry both pushing each other. Never a bad thing, often successful if they are both good, and they are.

Finally Joe Hart, Big Joe Hart, for the final time OUR Joe Hart. Was his announcement the galvanizing factor? One day we might find out officially, but there’s a strong chance. To win the double for your favourite club yet, in the very last game of your career, on a date that club hold dear to its heart,,,it’s a fairytale waiting to happen and better yet he can write the ending himself by keeping the ball out of the net or dare I say it score the winning penalty!
Many Hart’s (pardon the pun) will hit many mouths if we see him placing the ball on the spot again. It’s gone, it’s forgotten as we won anyway, but that’s the experiment done and dusted I hope.
Just like Joe after today.

And of course there’s the gaffer himself.
The man who walked into half a squad, existing players seemingly not suiting his playing style, an internal power struggle, doubters amongst the support, the worst refs ever, and two R2ngers managers to contend against.
10 months later he’s relaxed in the t-shirt smiling, affairs in hand, new head of scouting, league title in hand, support in the palm of his hand, the other hand reaching out for a double. He’s one win away from officially stating “the king is back”, one final victory away from a dream that looked beyond grasp when he gave his keeper the nod to take and miss the crucial penalty, ps don’t make the same mistake again.
Brendan’s out to show, once and for all, that it was far from a mistake bringing him back, and he is a man who takes his chances in football.

You would be correct about Callum’s record in cup finals.
You might also add in his 5 youth cup final wins.
He is 30yo and has never lost a final at Hampden
Both our manager and captain have never lost a big final at Hampden.
Incredible guys to have leading us today.
Do your stuff Celtic!! 💚🍀

Btw, brilliant point about still having lots of Celtic connections in the dressing room.
I can’t remember a time when we didn’t have that.
The importance of it can’t be underestimated.
Isn’t that one of the things our opponents are now lacking??
The 90s may have seemed bleak for us, but just try and imagine how the average hun feels about now and what the future might look like …nightmare fuel :))
Put them out their misery!

Great lead Mahe, excellent reading.

I don’t mind admitting, I’m nervous. However, I know I shouldn’t be. It’s just a natural feeling before a big game, nerves do kick in.

One last push Celtic, win this battle, finish the Hun foe off, and go home victorious with the spoils of war.

Morning from the bus into work. Finish at the back of 1

I am certainly not in the unbridled optimism camp for today’s game. I’ve seen us lose finals we were hot favourites to win ( usually with better players at our disposal than now) and, in one of those instances at least, to Partick, to a team which was just out of the second division.

More pertinently perhaps our goalkeeper and back four are vulnerable to cross balls and one thing they are usually good at is booting the ball into the box.

Less rationally my mate Mick- a chauffeur to the stars- is wildly optimistic and he’s usually slightly more pessimistic than John Laurie’s Private Frazer.

Today’s opponents will walk on to the pitch puffed up with bravado and self belief- it’s up to us to puncture them early. Fortunately, our manager projects a relaxed confidence that very few of his predecessors ever have and he is usually very good at transmitting that sense of confidence to his team. I think we’ll win because we have a better manager and better players than them. But I wish it was over.

The bus arriveth. Mon the Hoops

May 25, 2024 7:52 am

Davy Hay wasn’t one of them, but in my mind he was, cos, just like me not at Lisbon, he was not selected to go and had to watch the game on the TV. Imagine being a young Celtic player and not picked to go to Lisbon, but there was others who did go but were not selected to play, but they were in the dressing room to assist with the celebrations, players like Joe McBride, said, ‘make mine a shandy’. As he signed Bertie Aulds shorts number 10 on the back. Berties shorts were handed to the lensman who took the dressing room pictures John McEwan. Well done John.

Once we won the league the Scottish cup is not as important a win for me, we won the money. They were talking about a treble a month ago, they will probably end up with just a league cup. Some of their players will be gone and be looking for their next club, mentally they will be preserving their bodies for their next gig. They are also mentally perplexed about not being able to beat Celtic this season, and realistically how much skin do those players have in the game. It was May 25 many years ago when Celtic physically and mentally got tore into Milan, i can see the same thing happening today. Come on Celtic give us a summer to gloat

What a day,our great chance to really hit them where it hurts-the bragging rights! Just when they thought they were going for a quadruple, just when the bungling Belgian was being hailed-and not just by himself!- as the managerial GOAT,up we pop to pop his balloon.

To burst his ballooning ego. To show everyone what a balloon he is.

If you are going to the match, have a ball. If you are watching it with friends, have a ball. If you are watching today and you are a Celtic supporter-HAVE A BALL wherever you are!

Give us another 25th May to remember,Celtic. The first one set the ball rolling on the End Of The Huns As We Know It. This one will take us to more trophies than any and all incarnations of them. And every trophy won despite the artificial barriers put up against us.

Bom Dias from sunny Portugal.
Today is my last day and I’ll be coming back to pack after the final whistle. So, I’m obviously hoping it’s going to be a great last day of the holiday!

ill be watching the game in a local bar.
We have a wee problem though as we will have to watch it in a bar alongside Man U and City fans – and god forbid a hun or two! Every bar is going to show the FA cup on the big screens so we’ll be relegated to wee screens or sitting outside on the pavement I reckon.
Fortunately I haven’t seen any huns here yet and there’s a lot of Irish here so I should be in good company.

I’m anticipating a comfortable 3-0 but I’ll take any sort of win.
Le hope we’re only talking about the football afterwards and not the officiating.

May 25, 2024 12:15 pm

Just as well you’re in Portugal Billy Bhoy M.O.C has a power cut, fekkin Lekky board must all be huns.

Afternoon all, much like a couple of weeks ago the early confidence has waned into pre game nerves. The early in the week head says we’re due giving them an absolute humping but the today head just wants us two goals clear going into what I’m sure will be a significant amount of injury time! Have a great day one and all and stay safe out there.

Going by the last 24hrs, I’ll be amazed if there isn’t lots of trouble today. The wee man just showed me videos of masked dudes in blue, running around causing mayhem since last night. If we get into an unassailable lead today, I wouldn’t rule out them invading the pitch, or something similar. And as time goes by and they realise they are now basically just trying to stop us doing the treble every season, these violent episodes will only increase in frequency. As usual, some innocent will pay with their life! With our celebration last week being described as CARNAGE, it’ll be interesting how their behaviour will be reported, if at all.

May 25, 2024 1:02 pm

Aye,right. Your idea of a wee preamble on your bike is about fifty miles. And sometimes that’s each way!
