You couldn’t make it up!

The season hasn’t even started, but the bullshit has. Even before the league fixtures have been announced we have ourselves a stadium out of commission, with all the problems that entails.
Those problems include not being able to play at home for the crucial Champions League qualifiers, the biggest game of the season shall see the loss of one of the teams biggest weapons, the partisan crowd. As I type, their own support are unaware where exactly the hugely important game will actually take place.
It won’t be Hampden, who simply cannot halt their summer plans of concerts and a new pitch getting laid. My money is on Murrayfield, not even a football ground.

The SPL board should hammer them, a board which our CEO recently joined.
And that’s where the bullshit will really start, you just know ‘the unseen fenian hand’ will get apportioned some of the blame for the fine that must come. You just know they will point at the sacked scapegoat and yell ‘dealt with enough’ then scream blue murder (ironic phrase on this occasion) over what should be a record amount of financial punishment.

You just know their manager has his excuses ready, the media will follow suit. If he fails to navigate the CL qualifiers, if they drop points in another stadium, he will point to the lack of Ibrox. If he wins his games he’s a genius that didn’t need Ibrox. He’s been handed a get out of jail free card, he’s about the only winner here.
Not only that but he actually looks a bit clever in hindsight, he’s already signed a few of Real Madrids next Galacticos by giving them the stadium tour before the cranes moved in and the delay was announced. Clever, very clever my son.
I’d have done the same, except not being a Mickey Mouse operation means I will never need to. He’s won the off season Cup by a mile bhoys.

There’s plenty losers in this absurd turn of events.
The average fan for starters, routine absolutely chucked out the window.
The local to Ibrox hostelries who shall lose out on much needed income.
The broadcasters, deprived of a proper home atmosphere for those big qualification games and league opening fixtures.
Public transport goers and simply the public come matchday, all of a sudden the marauding mob will appear in an area unfamiliar with that element.
The image of Scottish football, ahem.
The integrity of the SPL.

On the latter I can hear it now, and I’ll publicly predict it. This will become the ‘we weren’t given a chance’ season.
The financial hit of both Hampden and non CL qualification, alongside FSR, shall hamstring that operation who shall then through their fans with typewriters espouse the message their hands were tied by these malicious set of circumstances, when the reality is its quite simply a mess of their own making.
But you won’t read that in the main stream media of course.

Next spare a thought for the poor fixture computer. If it dares spit out a derby clash, a R2ngers at home derby clash during this spell, the poor wee computer chip shall be labeled a Tim, accused of ‘fixing’ the seasons outcome.
As they are usually black in colour, it’s somewhat ironic that all through last season we also thought those in black to be match fixing.
The outcry for such an occurrence would be immense, but if the fixture computer is actually random,,,
As of this moment one month into the season delay is the chat, but shit happens, especially over there. That could be best case scenario, the positive spin. No one would be surprised if the lockout rumbled on longer. Surely the quintessential British club should have bought British steel and happily paid their dues to the exchequer? Aye right, on the cheap Asian stuff, it better be upto standard and it’s not only R2ngers on the hook for the approval but Glasgow City Council itself.

One thing that wasn’t random was the selection of Willie Collum to head up the refs starting next season, and with today’s news he will be under more pressure. If that club is already away from home but it’s an official home fixture, they will expect an extra helping hand just like last time, every time. Yet Willy is expected to be a fresh broom!? The two don’t mix. Or will they? Either way, Willie is onto a loser before he’s even started as one side or the other will be furious at him. Damned if he does (by us and others), damned if he doesn’t by that clubs officials, supporters, and all sections of the media. I give him a year, then it truly is time to call in the foreigners.

Finally my friends, the final irony of this situation, is that it was an endeavor embarked upon for monetary gain with extra seating being installed (600). This episode shall cost a whole lot more than their income increase, infact it shall be many years before those 600 viewing positions actually become profitable now.
The second biggest team in the land effed up a post season small scale stadium expansion,,, only in Scotland, only in the SPL.
You couldn’t make it up!

Peru vs Chile from the Dallas Cowboys stadium, Arlington, Texas, capacity 80,000 and looks pretty full.

Downside – U.S. commentator JP Dellacamera, who normally just does American sports, and has absolutely no clue what he is watching. He is being assisted by Cobi Jones, who does, otherwise he would be all at sea.

Upside – amazing close-up camera angles from the myriad cameras normally used for American football, including some suspended over the field.

Amazingly, for Copa America, the surface was switched from artificial turf to grass, starting on June 10. Normally, AT&T Stadium has a special soft top convertible turf system with 26 interchangeable panels to allow the stadium to host a variety of events, including ‘soccer.’

It has been removed, top soil laid on top of concrete and Kentucky bluegrass sod brought from a farm in Colorado in huge refrigerated trucks. An irrigation system was placed under the 10 inches of topsoil, and artificial growing lights installed in the stadium rafters to descend down to give the grass the correct light spectrum.

They will do the same for the FIFA World Cup in 2026, but raise the field to accommodate wider field dimensions required by FIFA, taking some seating areas out of commission.

Total cost of the renovations? An unbelievable $295M! Dallas will host 9 World Cup games, including a semi final, the most of any North American city. It’s 80,000 capacity is expandable to 100,000 with standing room.

Makes the Bigotdome construction look like small potatoes. And the longer we leave stadium improvements, the more we will recede in the US rearview mirror.

Giving up on Peru- Chile, despite great crowd atmosphere. Poor game, 0-0 at half time, and tired of bonehead baseball commentator just doing it because it’s a job. It’s like listening to Bill McLaren doing a football game. Brilliant at rugby, but really doesn’t know football. You just can’t beat the Latin American commentators – they just generate excitement because they are excited themselves.
Nitey night.

I also gave up on Peru vs Chile, poor game compared to the Stanley Cup potential decider in Edmonton.
Oilers taking it back to Florida for the final game currently.

So the Sevco board sat on this until they had something positive to announce, and the best they could come up with was the signing of an average kid from Aberdeen for a few hundred thousand pounds?? That about the size of this?

Don’t get the logic of what they are doing to their stand. They are adding 600 seats and improved wheelchair access, 600×£600=£360,000. Or maybe their ST’s are £1m each 🙃

Since it’s hard to believe anything that comes out of ibrox I don’t believe this will be a months delay. Even their own forums are full of folk that say it will be longer, a lot longer.

June 22, 2024 9:04 am

Morning all

Before I head off to work I feel I should offer my tuppence worth on recent topics.

The Ibrox Stadium story is a laugh for sure- the kind of ineptitude Jack McGinn and Terry Cassidy aspired to back in the day for sure- but it does rather divert attention away from the lack of any team strengthening at Celtic. What is it they say? Jus’ sayin.

Not seen much of the Euros – partly because of work and partly through chice – and what I have seen has hardly thrilled though I gather that both Turkey and Romania are worth catching. Spain looked good in what I saw of the match with Italy although quite bad for diving especially their number 3. Italy was poor- not sure if even their defenders are that good whilst their midfield and attack is bereft. Pirlo, Del Pierro andTotti seem a long time ago now. Last night’s game was so thrilling I watched the last episode of Rebus instead of the second half

Have a good day

June 22, 2024 9:30 am

In my opinion the Euro’s for the most part has resembled a chess tournament with raucous patriotic crowds.
Nationalism is not my thing but gives people a sense of belonging or an unjustified superiority complex if English.
Football is in an overcoached era with little individualism and Yamal the Spanish 16 year old being the exception but the crowds seem more intent creating a spectacle than watching a dull game.
He hasn’t had the daring or individualism coached out of him yet.
Money and fear have created this type of game and coaches self preservation have reduced it to a society with little sport or entertainment on view.

Scotland are where most of us realistically see them being, in the bottom quarter.

Still, a win tomorrow changes everything.

Could they not just mothball the works for a year by which time the steel will have arrived?

Builders just undo what they’ve done so far, make good what they can, pack up and leave?

Might cost them money, but it would avoid everyone else being inconvenienced and out of pocket.

If that’s even half way feasible and they chose not to do it they should be absolutely hammered.

I have enjoyed the euros so far. However I have a sneaking suspicion we might have a winner outside the big 5 leagues. Apart from Spain none of the big 5 have overly impressed. And Engerlunds multi hundreds of millions of pounds midfield him got bested by a guy that died in the last euros,
Like the look of Austria.

June 22, 2024 11:31 am

The steel story is a myth. This has asbestos written all over it. Full stadium closure and a lot more than a month plus costs.

This could rumble on and on and on.

The mobile asbestos cleaning unit will appear in the next few days and then the real story will emerge.

Shut till Xmas or administration, what ever comes first.

June 22, 2024 12:53 pm

I Have not seen much of the euros due to work and holiday but I think we are so familiar with the players nowadays there is no element of surprise. It used to be great to see players you’d never seen before or had little knowledge of turning it on for their country. Wall to wall football has killed that element of the game. Fan is correct too in that there is no room
for individuality that gets you off your seat. There is a team plan and if you don’t stick to
it, you’ll be out.
As for the ibrox calamity. Long may it continue. It makes me smile when I think of those supporters tearing their hair out about how their club is run. I am forever puzzled as to why they got rid of the Easdale brothers. Seems to me as an outsider that they never took a penny from the club and wanted the best for them. Bet they wish they had their multi millions now!!

June 22, 2024 2:58 pm

Govan FC — their troubles never seem so far away.

The initial chat about their changes to the East Stand looked very ambitious.
New wheelchair viewing platform and a fairly significant expansion of the upper seating area always looked like it was quart into a pint pot territory — something had to give.

Now we are getting extra laughs regarding their schoolboy howlers regarding project scoping and investigation / supply chain challenges / project management engagement and grass care.

Given the focus that comes from having no resources aka hand to mouth existence / no win no eat to get all of this so wrong over so little takes a lot of mis-directed effort.

In other news the Barrowfield “Tent” is looking very good.
All the steelwork is up and the “canvas” is going on.

Hopefully we have put some thought into the external walls.
Sunderland show how it should be done.

Looks to be a big unit — 120 x 90 — hopefully metres / might be yards.
Some of the KDS chat was pretty poor — one bright spark says it is only 2/3rds scale.

Don’t think we would be that stupid plus the supplier does full size out of its catalogue.
No special engineering required to build full size.

Hopefully a smooth build means that we will get another one at Lennoxtown.
Huge difference given our climate and conditions — especially in winter.
Might be the start of something big — space that is affordable.

The indoor pitches at Toryglen and Ravenscraig were just corporate welfare for structural engineers — works of art but very expensive.

Interested to see if we are working the revenue streams to the max.
You will be able to see the roof from space — hopefully we are on the case.

Maybe too much of a mouthful to say

Georgia is a transcontinental country in Eastern Europe and West Asia. It is part of the Caucasus region, bounded by the Black Sea to the west, Russiato the north and northeast, Turkey to the southwest, Armenia to the south, and Azerbaijan to the southeast.

June 22, 2024 3:21 pm

I owned a5 floor office building in NJ.
An arsonist set it on fire.
Asbestos was discovered.
The building was sealed to stop contaminates escaping.
They set up air scrubbers on all 5 floors and left them running for 3 months before anyone was allowed in building.
They had men In hazard suits going through a sealed airlock to remove building materials and exit through another where they had decontamination showers.
All dirty clothes and materials where multi bagged and taken away in sealed vans to a specific landfill.
The entire process took around one year before the building reopened despite what seemed like a small area that was originally exposed.
But knowing the Scottish government’s previous help to everything out of Ibrox I don’t expect they will face much difficulty.

Axl Rose, from the band Guns N’ Roses is widely recognised as one of the greatest singers in history.

The quote below is one of the most self-depreciating,yet intelligent things I’ve ever read:

In response to an informal study that named him the ‘World’s Greatest Singer” based on a study of vocal ranges, Rose told Spin in 2014, “If I had to say who I thought the best singers were, I’d say first that I don’t know there’s a definitive answer as in my opinion it’s subjective, and second that my focus is primarily rock singers. That said, I enjoy Freddie MercuryElvis PresleyPaul McCartneyDan McCaffertyJanis JoplinMichael JacksonElton JohnRoger DaltreyDon HenleyJeff LynneJohnny CashFrank SinatraJimmy ScottEtta JamesFiona AppleChrissie HyndeStevie WonderJames Brown and a ton of others (predominantly Seventies rock singers) and would rather hear any of them anytime rather than me!”
Rose later cited Queen as his favorite band, and Mercury as his favorite singer.

He didn’t leave many out there!

Some legend. 🤣🤣

June 22, 2024 3:39 pm

Georgia is in the Caucuses.
As any one club golfer / Geography pedant would know and argue over.

The Caucuses are in Europe — I think.
Europe’s highest mountain is seemingly in the Caucuses — ie not Mount Blanc.

The Ural mountains are the dividing line between Euro Russia and Asian Russia.
Not sure what happens when the Urals finish / turn into another mountain range.

Georgia — eastern end of Europe.

But not In Eastern Europe as it is usually used as a political or geographic term.
Not in the Balkans either.

Consequently Georgia in Eastern Europe would start a war — remember Putin has previous.

Asbestos / fire story — when was that?
What kind of asbestos?

Recent chat — asbestos as a filler in artex — had its removal as much less specialised.
Complicated subject so things may change regarding circumstances.

My thoughts are that the asbestos issue would only be live in the one stand under re-modelling.
With the option to stabilise and return to the previous configuration.

However I am an interested outsider in all of this.

FAN/ MITCH, with this being a sporting venue with a public licence. There are a whole raft of issues that may very well arise.

Rather than just closing one stand, I believe the licence may be revoked for the whole venue.

X is full of story’s around this very issue, and beggs the question, why look for another venue in the first place?

There are also regulations around working during certain times of the day in domestic areas and this might just rumble on and on.

Or it might just be some steel that missed a boat.
