Losing the Pre-Season again

Sack the boss, sack the board, sack anyone. We,ve lost the pre season cup again ffs, not even beating lower league opposition. Rip it up and start again! But seriously, what would Scott Browns managerial goal be? I’d suggest it would be leading Celtic to titles and into the Champions League, perhaps leading Scotland into the Euros ala Stevie Clarke, but he has a better chance of success with the former.
Great, his team didnt get beaten by his former employe’s and a makeshift Celtic side, his managerial credentials are intact, and surely we all want a an exTim showing genuine promise craving the big hotseat. Those are few on the ground, but Scott might just be leading the pack. I genuinely hope he takes Ary United up the table.Sack the Boss, the Board, anyone!?
We lost the preseason Cup again ffs not even beating lower league opposition!
Rip it up and start again!
But in seriousness, what would be Scott Browns ultimate career goal, I’d suggest it’s lead Celtic into into the Champions League rather than be lead Scotland into European Competition. My rationale being he has more chance at success with the former, plus much more fun along the ride.
Great, his team didn’t get beaten by a makes
Well done on your first draw of the season our old skipper, turn them into wins and come home someday.

Next “I Don’t Care”
He happened to be talking about ‘talking’ to his fellow players in the dressing room, lunchtime, and in the restaurant, but Beckham exhibits right there why that ‘team’ isn’t a team, hence they won jack.
I’ve read tales of The Lions closeness, I doubt anyone here would deny that was probably a large contributor to their success, aye success.
It was evident from perhaps the Brendan up against the beaks at Hampden time, that we as a team weren’t firing on all cylinders. If I had one word to sum up what happened since then it would be united. We seemed united, or purpose, of determination, of destination.
An actual team with a goal, and achieve it they did.
Can you imagine a Celtic first team luncheon, dressing room, a coach journey in silence between yourself and your teammate, everybody, then being asked to trust them on the park? Most dont trust strangers, infact there was a TV ad emphasizing that vsry poi t when I was a boy. Well finding out if someones trustworthy in life is one good indicator of what exactly shall follow in his profession. And how do you discern if he’s trustworthy? Talk to the man, discussion relating to the sport you love or the family you love, is a much better judge than any jewelery and finance deal to come.
A swollen head can be sensed, and maybe even brought back down to earth by Mr Been there, Seen it, and Done it.
As Keano said when Brian Robson is giving your career advice, you’ve gotta think if I don’t listen to him I won’t be listening to anyone.
He listened, he took the meaning onboard, he excelled.
Becks wasn’t even engaging to listen and learn. Not that I’m his biggest fan or anything ut Southgate at least understands group morale and cohesion.
I’m not surprised Beckham is never in the mention of England’s greatest ever, Uniteds greatest ever, and we all know his ‘Galactico’ status forced Madrid to sign him rather than solely his footballing ability.
He displays his selfishness with his dont care about anyone else comments, and to be honest the fact England have moved on sees them favourites today in my eyes. It’s also ironic that the original “no dickheads” team aka The All Black’s play his nation on the same day.
Let’s see if that policy pays off.
Finally, I told you guys the Euros would suck and the Copa America would outshine it weeks ago

Internationals Time!

Not bragging or anything, but the signs were there. The worse thing is, there’s no end in sight to the jaded players/poor showing conundrum cone every seasons end. Every year brings more games, more responsibility, more pressure upon not only all involved especially the biggest names. Between expanded competitions, demand from home club to become the top man thus very little rest, performance drop off is almost a given.
Meanwhile South America plus invitees are putting on a scoring spectacle.
It’s easy to think EUFA good, FIFA bad when you’re under the formers jurisdiction, but let’s acknowledge who is putting on the better show eh?

I watched the interview with BR. I think it’s fair to say he’s ticking. Responded tersely with well that’s the plan when talking about getting people in but also said that we knew Joe Hart was leaving since February. Pointed comment I would suggest.
I haven’t watched any of the copa America but anything I have watched of the euros has been dire.
I can see what you are saying about possession based coaches but could this be a direct correlation to the amount of games the top players are playing now? You can’t play 50 plus games season after season at full tilt. Look at Ange teams as an example. He exhausts players then moves on. This season for Spurs will be very interesting. They tailed off last season on much the same way we did at the end of his second season. If he doesn’t get too quality in to make it two players for EVERY position he’ll be struggling.

The Copa America has been really good thus far, surprisingly so.

MLS has also been quality entertainment over the past few weeks, goals galore.

You can’t disagree with what Mahe has started regarding the European equivalent – those players are spent, having played far too much football already.

Either this or it’s the coaching, thon PE teacher in charge of England would get football stopped with his negative tactics.
Deschamps similar.

Then again if Southgate wins the thing, what can you say?

No mission of either of them changing course at this stage of their careers.

Success is winning tournaments,not reaching finals,or semi-finals.

Viva Espana. 🇪🇸

Canada throughly to semi final after a 1-1 draw and penalties where they meet Argentina again.
France game was balanced by the Spain game.
Very organised teams where players cannot break out of systems for fear of losing possession and getting countered leads to stalemates.
Makes me laugh though… Spain score late and Germany tactic is launch at Mueller whereas football, even in the dying seconds, created a great chance for Fullkrug who should have scored.
Plain to see Scotland the worst team in all aspects at the tournament.

It’s hilarious what’s going on at ibrox. I hope they are shut down for the whole season and longer.
The downside for us is that if lawwell thinks this gives us such an advantage that we can win the league without strengthening then we won’t spend. We will sell Matt and stick the money in the bank. We have no European ambition. We know we are already guaranteed in the region of £40m.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we start the new season with Scott Bain in goal.

July 6, 2024 10:36 am

Stop looking across the river unless your looking at their signings and how many they have made.

PL still in da house, his boy might have gone, but he still pulls the strings.

Celtic are a complete joke.

BR will be off again if he doesn’t get what he wants, and would you blame him?

£100 million in the bank and 20k a week is to much for the Portugal under 21 captain. WTF

They will never break the wage structureand. Now if I’m correct it’s lower than what we were paying players a quarter of a century ago. If you take football inflation into account, the reversal is astonishing.

But look the huns have fucked ibrox,
So fuck.

July 6, 2024 10:50 am

Last night was obvious we are trying to play out from the back and like the first team struggling badly to have any concept of how to do so!
Midfield didn’t show for ball so we reshuffled constantly between backs and keeper.
It created pressure on defense.
If coach can’t get them to play system properly we should choose an alternate system.

July 6, 2024 10:56 am

Don’t expect full tilt football.
Constant cross field play waiting on opponent to lose shape has been sussed.
Time for a more positive possession approach.
Maybe some coach should discover that attacking space forces opponents to rearrange shape and causes confusion?
Allowing players to take on opponents one on one would be novel.

Full marks on the concistency shown by our board.

Good points re the system.
We haven’t got the quality of players to play it properly.
Done right, with players who are comfortable on the ball, are mobile, able to be two footed ( not a tackle ) when needed, game intelligent and aware of their geography on the pitch, it breaks a press and starts attacks.
Getting “better” players on the ball quickly gives them better chances to pick the pass.
Gundogan noted to take more than one midfielder/ defender out on average 30 times in 90 minutes ( only bettered by Rodri )
We, Celts, don’t need more players, we need better footballers.

July 6, 2024 12:38 pm

Steve Niave,
BR alluded to that also. He said we could have signed nine players by now but he doesn’t want numbers he wants quality. Now whether he gets the requisite quality players to play his system remains to be seen. I’m puzzled by Kyogo. He doesn’t fit BR’s way of playing. He thrives on players cutting the ball back where as Rodgers has wingers that cut inside. When we had Robert’s and Tierney they worked well and tierney over lapped. Greg Taylor should be able to do this as should AJ. Does BR hold them back or does he just prefer a centre forward that holds the ball up and brings the midfield more into the game? It’s a conundrum for sure. Kyogo certainly needs to adapt better than he did last season if he wants to start. Interesting times.

Superbru Update

Still to trap for today’s matches are:- Aipple, celtic mac, & maccargo

After last night’s matches, we have a few making a late Mark Cavendish like sprint to topple the Yellow Jersey leader, Jobo Baldie, but have they gone too early? It could be the results of the final and 3rd/4th place forecasts that decide it.

  1. Jobo Baldie- 42.5 pts

2= 18 Yard Man & hairlikespaghetti- 42 pts
4= SFTB & One Malloy- 41 pts
6= ACGR & Bada Bing (climbing 15 places)- 39.5 pts

Amusing post from Beaumontbhoy on KDS.

Salesman ‘morning sir what can I get you?’
Celtic board ‘I want that Porsche’
Salesman ‘great choice, reliable, top tier, the price for that is £100k and we have this ready to transfer today’
Celtic board ‘I’ll give you £20k for it’
Salesman ‘sorry sir, I’m willing to negotiate but please be realistic. We could make this work for £95k’
Celtic board ‘£25k’
Salesman ‘if you’re not a serious buyer I’ll need to ask you to leave’
Celtic board ‘ok ok … £35k final offer’
Salesman ‘get the eff out and don’t come back’

2 months later

Celtic board ‘ok we have been reviewing your offer and are willing to go to £70k, deal?’
Salesman ‘sorry, that car was sold a month ago for £95k, you are too late’
Celtic Board ‘have you any other Porsches available, or even BMW, Audi’s’
Salesman ‘we do but aren’t willing to enter negotiations as your not a serious buyer, don’t contact us again’

Celtic board ‘hi is this Big Johns second hand car centre? Looking to buy any car you have available, we are in desperate need and it needs to be available today. I’ll take anything’
Big John salesman ‘we have a second hand Skoda Palma and a second hand Skoda Kuhn, we’ll give you it for £20k each. No negotiation.’
Celtic board ‘done’

Celtic fc to fans ‘we have secured two very exciting acquisitions after months of negotiations and detailed analysis.’

So a player that played 6 CL games last season, and the potential to play more next season. 20k wage is outside what we would expect to pay.

Good grief.

I for one thought PB looked like a class act, and didn’t look out his depth in the CL or any other game for that matter.

BR must rate him, otherwise why would celtic have approached Benfica.

Hi Mike:
On the bench last night for Canada was that big unit Theo Bair. Plays for Motherwell at center forward. I seem to remember he was pretty effective against us in a game last season.
Celtic fly out here in 10 days. It’s beyond a joke that we don’t have a keeper or any new signings. Sevco, Hearts and Motherwell have signed 21 players between the 3 of them.
Who at Celtic has been dragging his feet for weeks trying to get the Bernardo deal across the line? You couldn’t make it up.
Wait and see. We’ll sign a keeper just before we fly out, and his passport will be out of date!
