Hooked on a feeling!
Several song titles present themselves to sum up how I’m feeling after the trip to Paisley.
‘I ain’t missing you at all’
‘Get in the groove and let the good times roll’
‘It’s getting better man’,but the old Blue Swede classic provided the perfect line.
I am getting hooked on this feeling, the feeling of something special happening everytime the leather belts take to the park, the sense that this team emerges from the tunnel and put in good performance after good performance ultimately delivering a high scoring win. Yesterday was no different, despite the weather, despite the opponents being big strong men, despite the blow of losing Matt.
We kicked ass, a feat that’s happening too often to be coincidence, and have reached the stage of wondering not where the points shall head, but rather how many goals shall the Hoops score. Mark of a good team. So is sharing the goals around and yesterday it was the midfielders efforts that won the game with a defenders strike to wrap it up. The middle of the park produced another masterclass display, all three can hold their head high, the Danes departure did result in disruption and his immediate replacement was not our Achilles heel, far from it, this wisdom of having a player already upto speed was clearly evident. As a known ‘skelper, Big Paolo got vital minutes under his belt to put him in good stead for a game he usually enjoys that’s only 6 days away and counting.
The other two are already purring like kittens, I think this is the best beginning to a season they’ve ever delivered if truth be told.
If James is undergoing an Indian summer, then Calmac must be also. I’m used to seeing him quite ‘leggy’ come the first few games, it looks as though he had the entire summer off and maybe the knowledge of only club football from now on has really put him at ease these days. Two screamer long range goals tells me he’s enjoying his football, and that he shall continue with those types of efforts given the success rate. Ten for the season should be his immediate target.
As for his Japanese sidekick, maybe Brighton bought the wrong midfielder. He’s producing his best ever form in my book, has discovered a new level under this new playing system, and goal is just rewards for the effort he’s putting in.
And what about that smile!?
He’s usually a bit nonplussed or dour, yesterday he was beaming after converting, he’s clearly happy and going nowhere else this window full-stop.

To round off another fine display our right back slams one in, after an assist from the man who either scores or assists every meaningful game this season. Kuhn and Johnson are the new Jackie and Simon terrorizing the right flank, and it’s a joy to behold when they often combine.
But yesterday’s game wasn’t only about our three goals.
I could mention the whistler and VAR being either incompetent or bent this early in the season. I know Robinson signs big guys but he could also instruct them to play fair, so my admiration for the job he’s doing at The Saints decreases, my despise for the officials couldn’t go any lower.
I could mention the message sent to Greg Taylor by the boss, that’s not good enough so you’re hooked even if we can’t replace you like for like.
I could mention the fact Holm is making the bench and getting a few minutes over Iwata, which indicates he’s more higher thought of.
I will definitely mention a Celtic debut, not least because he’s from my home city and already looks a specimen at such a young age. I believe I can confidently predict that’s not his only appearance of the season. Well done Francis Turley. Do us proud.
Perhaps the day’s most important events came outside of the 90 minutes, both before and after.
Beforehand the dignitaries of the Celtic board found themselves face to face with a bunch of regular Tims, and to nobodies surprise they let rip at the suits. They were told by Peter to calm down!
Maybe it’s just me, but those are two words you say to diffuse a potential physical altercation, they certainly are not the correct words to diffuse discontent, two things poles apart. The suits were never going to be harmed, it was the ideal moment to give some type of reasonable answer to those growing exasperated at our lack of signings whilst being minted. Poor show, and not from the Tims who have every right to voice their dissatisfaction.
Maybe the broken umbrella sapped their last vestige of competence.

It’s been a dream start, the squad is slimmer, the players look really fired up, and we’ve got the biggest club competition in the world to look forward to. But after the match saw the other side of the coin, the manager issuing his final and biggest plea, this time resorting to pointing out what the supporters deserve to those in the boardroom who control the incomings and outgoing. It was a serious shot across the bow from Brendan. He fully and publically handed over responsibility to where it belongs, the burden is not his yet he must weekly be faced with questions he himself cannot answer. It finally looked like it was taking a toll, his words were strong and to the point.
Apologies for repeating myself, but this week’s events shall shape the next several years at our club of choice. Buy well and blossom, tread water and struggle, that’s the simple choice for the board before Friday night, and I dare say there’s a lot riding on their answer, not least the commitment of the man responsible for making us a special team to watch again.
By next Sunday evening I want smiles all around, the current first choice eleven having won the game allowing a ‘cheeky’ derby debut to several new signings, who are afforded the chance to make it a dream debut by shining in the glorious atmosphere of derby victory.
Likewise the weeks events have the potential to bring negativity into the stadium via serious board dissatisfaction and undoubtedly disenfranchising the man holding it all together. A group of death, a result from hell, an unpopular departure alongside inadequate replacements,,the upcoming week is either the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning. The team kicks on, or the fans kick up hell,,,it’s a massive week and there’s massive decisions to be made which shall have repercussions for years.

Good Morning Sentinels – Grand Day To Be A Tim,
Very interesting lead Mahe, the presser was obviously organised to get the message through to the Board, for me it wasn’t so much another shot across the bow – more a shot right through the main mast by the Jolly Mr Rodgers.
https://youtu.be/zEMfy6LAo9E?si=sj0jO68Lz96BvOkx
For what it’s worth I have now given up on this transfer window, think it will mirror January’s – hopefully more players involved – so hand picked prospects and loanees.
I’m staying opTIMistic as I don’t think BR will do walking away, he was far too future focused and upbeat in the presser for that – there’s a man with a plan
As is often the case during his tenures at Celtic, he will have to rely on his mettle rather than support from the Board, that will get us a fighters chance to get a place in the UCL playoffs in December
By then our newly restructured, fit for purpose, recruitment department will be in place and hopefully a well overdue change at Board level
This means, with the new system in place and all the cash at our disposal in the January window, we will be able to strengthen the team for the last two UCL encounters.
INIQUITOUS IV @ 1:08 am,
Interesting “chat” about Alex Valle’s buyout clause. Not 100% on this, but here’s my understanding.
Barca’ were negotiating a new contract with Alex, if they failed to agree, AV’s buyout clause would go from €8 mn to €3 mn for the last year of his current contract.
Because of this, several Clubs were hovering about hoping to get a bargain… probably Celtic included.
If the player signed a long term contract, Barca’ could put his clause up to €30 mn, if they took up his short term option, it stays at €8 mn, this is the current situation by the looks of things.
“Alex Valle signs new deal with Barcelona until June 2026 and he’s set to join Celtic on loan.
Verbal agreement reached, as @gbsans advanced. Celtic are checking all docs to get it signed early next week.”
https://x.com/footballespana_/status/1827799702408200649
So my guess, when the new contract was signed many of the suitors melted away leaving Celtic with a loan option, we really aren’t in a great position to turn down a half decent left back given time constraints, also being relatively “minted”, we can throw a few euros at the problem for a short term fix.
As I see it, good news and bad news…
Bad news is obviously it is a short term fix with no guarantee the boy will settle
Good news, it does bolster our weak LB position and it shows Barca’ trusts Brendan & Co to develop and improve their protege’s it could be a very fruitful relationship
All in all, what the coaches have done with Matt last season will reverberate around Europe, a €10 mn quality prospect this time last year a €30 mn EPL player this season, phenomenal stuff…
Top Clubs wanting to loan, quality, ambitious youngsters wanting to advance their career will be craving to come to Glasgow.

Brendan’s got the team playing great, just great.
I posted this yesterday at the wrong time,- Mea Culpa.
If defending is an art, then Danny McGrain was Van Gogh, Danny Van Gogh. Going forward his head was always up, searching for the best placed forward, his reading of the game was exceptional, his passing completely accurate, he was strong in the tackle and as brave as a Lisbon Lion. Danny signed for Celtic just two weeks before Lisbon, as I said I always thought that his signing was the sixth bar on the five bar brooch. I loved that man.
With over 600 appearances and sixty odd caps, he was another great servant to Celtic football club.
Danny favoured the blue side of Glasgow but he was soon another convert to Celtic FC. There loss was our gain, his name was too Irish for them and he was another reason why their sectarian signing policy blue up on their faces, good stuff.
I’m totally behind our manager in calling them out, having to remind them that we are first and foremost a FOOTBALL CLUB and how our support backed the club 100% during Covid times, truly they deserve better, much better than last minute panic signings.
Oh, Danny Bhoy – I love you so!
Interesting leader mahe. I thought Taylor had a good game and reason he was hooked was he had just been given a yellow card for getting clobbered so no point in risking a second one that would put him out the derby,
Hatate was excellent but was run close by Kuhn who only got 30 minutes. He seems to be able to carry a ball by barely touching it and is the defences nightmare we have been looking for. Why pass it across a crowded defence when you can carry it amongst them and scare the bejesus out them.
Four games in. We’ve conceded two shots on target. Either we are very very good this year or we are playing against utter dross. Kaspar could stay in the nice warm dressing room and just nip out when we concede a set piece.

Earlier in the window I said I believed Brendan would walk if not backed. After yesterdays presser I now dont believe he will. He is here for the long term. His comment on the support selling out the stadium at Covid and not being allowed in was for me a sign he knows exactly what to say for total support. He will no longer be a whipping bhoy. Im beginning to wonder if the carrot to him coming back for his whole term is a step up if he completes it to push the club forward . Stranger things have happened in football and this guy has some excellent credentials. Being a fan since childhood is one .
Experience throughout Europe and England with some big clubs and ourselves and it appears he may have DDs ear. Respected by many in the game .
There had to be a reason …….

I have thought that from the manner of his appointment and the only reason he would want to return with PL still in the building.
Why come back to a place he would not be universally welcomed by the support because of the manner of his exit and the cause of his exit was still part of the process that caused him to leave?
That did not make sense unless he was sold on the idea of taking Celtic forward.
If performances so far are anything to go by he has demonstrated he can take our game up a level domestically already and he will turn £6m players into £20m ones under his wing.
I think he understands perfectly the kind of constraints that prevent Celtic buying in £20m players but is confident in his ability to develop those at a £6m level upwards.
I think that makes more sense than he came back to be humiliated by the Mighty Pedro.
One word covers it.
Redemption.
Glad to see a more positive slant emerging.
Big week ahead and a number of targets being mentioned in various quarters. So, be good if these all transpire.
The team are currently in a good place, playing well but squad lacks the depth in quality. Saturday will take of itself, the Huns are confident, so we know we’ll have a game on our hands if they decide to attack.
BR is a master at these games, I expect him to know every angle the Huns will try to throw at us. Clement needs a win or at least a draw to save some kind of reputation within the Huns support, so the pressure is all in him.
Valle, Bogusz, Isaksen and Engels? Get them done and we have the best part of a week to find some competition at the heart of our defence.
Get all that done and it’ll have been a quite amazing window.
Chairbhoy
What power and authority does BR have to take on The Board that includes DD?
Will power on it’s own is not enough.
He must have backing and assurances of support somewhere and DD is the most likely source particularly as upgrading has twin benefits of improving Celtic’s status in Europe that reflects well on DD and makes lottsa money.
I think BR appreciates the Celtic player trading model and came back willing to work within it and improve it.
That is an evolutionary process rather then revolutionary. A bit like how you eat an elephant – one season at a time.
Hoop Hoop Hooray, Mine also.
Auldbhoy 67 – Exactly and great post. Brendan is a great football manager and developer of young players, we are lucky to have him at Celtic.
Bobby, not only a legend ad the worlds best right back in his time, but also the sweetest and humble man you could meet, bit like ‘The Brush’- John Clark, mild, unassuming, but really likeable and humble, a credit to our club. Both remind me of Jimmy McMenemy, who lost out on being Celtic captain after Willie Maley, because he was considered too quiet, too shy, a great pity. But when I think about Danny and John, I think about how they came back to the club, someone at the club was looking out for them and so they should have, great servants deserve to be rewarded.
Got to be “The Cheeky Chappy”, fae Belfast Celtic.
Not captain – manager.
Mahe
Why does confrontation permeate amongst the support to the degree it becomes part of the culture?
Why is it seen as the only way forward?
History is littered with confrontations that led to wars that eventually lead to acceptance that cooperation is a better idea.
Is it impossible that BR and The Executives on The Board ie Nicholson and McKay are cooperating? BR speaks highly of the effort of those responsible for recruiting which suggests cooperation rather than confrontation.
At the end of the day therec are two different Narratives at play but drawing on the two wolves story the narrative that wins is the one you feed.

In the 10 years before he joined Celtic the club were running a £38m DEFICIT on transfers (while running on a £22m DEBT when he was appointed) and had won 4 league titles in 15 years and hadn’t been in the European Cup/Champions League last 16 in 24 years
Since being appointed as Celtic’s chief executive 20 years ago (and moving to chairman two years ago) – the club has made a profit of £230m on 35 players and in their next accounts will have in excess of £100m cash in the bank (after Champions League money and ticket sales are factored in)
In that time they have won 15 out of 20 league titles and been to the last-16 of the Champions League three times
They have also won 12 out of the last 13 league titles, have won five trebles in the last eight years and are one the most cash rich clubs in Europe in terms of profit margin (despite being in a country with one of the poorest prize funds and Tv deal) while being heavy favourites to win the league again, having a proven top class manager and breaking their record transfer fee this summer
Yet a large section, most likely a majority, of Celtic fans want him out the club 🤯

UPDATE: FC Twente have had a loan offer accepted for Celtic centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke.
Twente want him on a season-long loan to replace Robin Propper, who left for Rangers.
Apart from the lack of efficiency of the recruitment function, I simply do not understand Celtic’s transfer targeting.
Bogusz and Engels targeted…why? We have just purchased Bernardo. We already have Calmac. Why attempt to bring in two central midfielders? Do we intend to play Bogusz in his third preferred position of CF? Does that make sense? Surely it is more likely it will be one or the other of Engels and Bogusz. McCowan is probably a backup option to spell Calmac, although higher quality players are being considered.
Isaksen is another strange target, apart from hamstring injuries appearing to dog him. He is a RW pure and simple. We have Kuhn and Forrest there plus Maeda can play there. Is the intent to move Kuhn over to LW and have Maeda as the third striker? However, if Taylor is vulnerable now, watch the gap he leaves if Maeda is not there to cover for him. Then there is the issue of where does Palma play?
Suppose Idah flops who will score from the forward positions? Kyogo and Idah appear to be interchangeable. So one or the other is on. Kyogo’s best season was 22/23. His scoring has halved since then. I know it is only one game but was anyone else underwhelmed by Idah’s performance versus the Saints? Kuhn will make goals but not score many. He cannot shoot. Forrest will score but how many games can he play?
So, maybe we shall get a loanee LB with no option to buy. If he succeeds then it will be the Bernardo/Idah scramble to try to sign him for, probably more than if we simply bought him now.
IMHO to progress in Europe, the priorities were keeper, and left defence. Assuming we kept all of our midfielders, it was a lower priority, much lower than a striker who could consistently put the ball in the net. That man was Conway now at M’borough. He was very obtainable but the focus was on the more expensive and riskier Idah.
On the evidence to hand, little was done on the left defence issues. Instead we have concentrated on midfield and a striker. We are playing well but it looks like there will be no immediate significant improvement in left defence for the initial European games. Sadly, I sense that will be enough to disappoint our hopes. Domestically, we should romp it, especially if the midfield keeps scoring.
Interesting times.

Going to be an exciting week.
I really enjoyed the both Auld guys comments. This is what I hoped for Brendan’s return. But until now it was a hard sell, he has never dithered from his positive stance regarding everything the club has done, he’s been honest, in his early 50s now I think he quite fancies a statue. He does have DDs ear as you guys say so the recruit depth will get a revamp after this window as its not fast enough for him or us.
Looks like after yesterday’s comments the recruitment has went up a gear or 2 finally.
Give him pace and power and he will improve us even further.

According to cqn negotiations for one of the players we’re after have hit a snag.
The snag is called Peter lawwell.
5 days to in the transfer window and we’re still fkn about with lowball offers .
6 weeks it took sign Bernardo and 8 to sign Idah.
Everyone still confident that we’ll get the players in.
The speculation on the inner workings atCeltic PLC are simply guess work.
Those who are in the know won’t risk their privilege and freeloading so it’s all guesswork by the frustrated fans.
