Historic!

Was Carlsberg in control of Celtic this week? Because it couldn’t have gone better, and is Probably the best seven days I’ve bore witness to.

The clear message is ‘out with the old, in with the new’, and lo and behold the squad has been trimmed and reshaped with deadwood galore moved on and a concentrated series of players arriving for serious fees which screams change for the better. International players arriving, transfer record smashed on both ends, the incoming player fee record smashed twice, and not one single frog is ribitting into the Parkhead dressing room. It’s not only the players, but even when it comes to the transfer strategy it’s also ‘out with the old and in with the new’.
The case is closed folks. Peter Lawell clearly has zero to do with transfers as this is the most unlike Peter window ever. I’m delighted that can and surely will be put to bed tonight.
Celtic clearly handed over the budget to be spent as the manager wishes, hallelujah. Please, never return to the old ways.

No area of the park has been neglected,,, goals, defense, midfield, attack,,all saw incoming International players replacing mostly non International players, surely an upgrade so I tip my hat.
The lure of Celtic was just to big for them, the promise of everlasting memories just too much to ignore, Brendan’s resume and body of evidence compelling, and one year after arriving he gets his men and the biggest chance he’s ever had to leave a lasting imprint on the club he holds natural affinity for.

This complete overhaul is stunning and exciting equally, I didn’t envisage an entire team leaving this window but always believed half a new team would arrive. The left side of the defense is sorted, words I longed to type.
We now have the Big Yanks at the back, and what a way for Big Cam to fulfill his destiny than partner him up with a complimentary ‘partner in crime’.
Trusty (hell of a name) is around the same age as Cameron, same ethnic background, and comes from Philadephia. I’ve lived there, it’s a sports mad city, and while it wouldn’t rank in the world’s prettiest destinations it breeds good people. I can see a friendship off the park and on it. Plus he’s a big lad, two giants at the back, both buddies, both vying for that USA squad in their home world cup, both with their best years ahead of them. I delighted with the left footed defenders’ capture. As I am with Valle, who will be affordable come seasons end. No one lasts ten years at Barca without being a true player.

The middle of the park has lost Iwata and Matt, replaced by a bloody Belgian International and a local star about to hit his best years. This alongside the fact all of Callum, Reo, and Paolo, are really growing in their game, throw in the Belfast lad and how can the juices not flow. A 20 year old Belgian International who shone in the Bundesliga,,,which God did we please?
I’m certain he will please the glorious balance sheet upon departure but while he’s here he can please at least 62 thousand others.
Starting this weekend. Yes I would throw him straight in, and what an opportunity to make an immediate impact.
Show him exactly what he’s signed up for, let him know the stakes straight off the bat, give him the opportunity to never forget the biggest week he’s ever had in football.

It’s not all gravy though, I honestly thought Oh had something about him but if he wanted to play every week to hone his trade then we shouldn’t stand in his way as that was not going to happen anytime soon. And we lost Mikey, the most talented player in the squad to quote Broony and James Forrest, for some reason a local just couldn’t fit into the jersey that never shrinks.

After that European draw which offers opportunity, after the wholesale renovation, after winning the battle and gaining control of who comes in and goes out, there’s not another manager in the world of football I would want at the helm right now. I’m certain Sundays result will confirm that. And with the exciting times ahead, there’s not another club in the world that I would wish to support.
The futures bright, the futures green and white.

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.
⭐️👏☘️👍🍾
That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.
Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

A very underwhelming transfer window.
Can’t say that I’m surprised, with amateurs that are running our club

Excellent stuff, Mahe. These players just signed, should add even more quality to BR’s team. Time will tell. About a week ago, I was stressed out TF, about how this window was panning out. All’s well that ends well, I guess. I’m particularly pleased that we managed to retain the services of Reo and Kyogo. Let’s get stuck into this mob on Sunday. 3 points is all I’m bothered about. 👍

Sorry but that is just a whole load of happy clappy / board fan bhoy nonsense.
Two months of effort condensed into the manager making jokes about our amateurish efforts.
The tyre sorry tire kicker jibe will be with us for a while.

Progress has been made but a last minute ring round offering random numbers to YouTube stars is not a good look. To what end — just wind a few folk up / few noses out of joint / put down markers that we are back in the game?

No matter who is in and who is out — the only known winner at the moment is our bank balance.

No use in giving ourselves a clap on the back because we have offloaded many of the players that we shouldn’t have bought in the first place or the players that we just couldn’t engage with or couldn’t offer a career path going forward.

The big story in all of this is the shambles that is our youth development.
Players leaving and our home grown element in any possible CL squad is paper thin.
Compare and contrast with the other squads in the CL — how many are home grown?

We should be a £150mill T/O football team this season — just a case that we need a set of execs that are comfortable working at this level? Given the last nine weeks that is quite some performance gap that we need to fill.

Consequently no Carlsberg in sight — just day old Kestrel Super Lager dregs.

St Tams,
I cannae agree Captain.
Everyone of our signings is first team ready, while we lost 2 of last years first team, Matt and Joe.
So had 9 first teamers, plus the seven on the bench most people would consider first team candidates. Brendan certainly does.
The rest, the unchosen for the squad, most would happily punt, and he did.
So that’s 9 plus 7, total 16 first team players of requisite quality.
Switching Sinisalo for Bain as Number 2 for now is an upgrade.
The 6 outfield signings are all first team material.
We just boosted the first team ready player pool to 22.
That’s how I see it.
Hope that makes sense.

Madmitch if 8 first team ready players equals me spitting happy clapper nonsense, long may it continue Sir.
I honestly do enjoy your contributions, you do make excellent points, but step back and see the quality of the ins versus the outs.
It’s stark.
We are slimming and upgrading.
That’s to be saluted.

You’ve gone all in here. I’m very much a glass half full guy on this one.

I’m very disappointed to see Iwata go. I think that’s a big mistake. For me, I’d rather have seen Holm go out – although perhaps just on loan.

I’m happy with all the incomings. But, once again, we’ve not spent ANY money. We’ve taken in more than we’ve spent AND almost certainly reduced the wage bill with the sheer number of players who have left.

So, once again, its a nett profit window:

Total spend – £31.75m

Players sold – £47.25m (Inc Abada exc MORs £4m add ons)

Despite ALL the money in the bank.
Despite the MOR money.
Despite the ST money.
Despite the imminent CL money.
Despite the merchandise – 3 new kits.

So, have we REALLY backed the manager here? I don’t think so!
They could barely have done any less. We got really lucky with the CL draw. There’s 5 winnable games there.

There was talk 2 months ago about a £30m spend. That was BEFORE the MOR deal went through.

How much fucking money are we going to be sitting on now??

BTW There’s no way I’m paying £200 to watch Leipzig, YB Berne, Bratislava and Brugge!

From last night. It will be interesting to see how this Fixture Difficulty Analysis of the Champions League works out in reality. It shows we have an opportunity that may never be repeated.

The depth of some of these sides is just scary. Liverpool, for example, will be picking a front 3 from Salah, Nunez, Diaz, Jota, Chiesa, Gakpo. ( Comment is not associated with the table )

Pre-window second string/back up,,,

Bain
Montgomery
Nawrocki
Lagerbielke
Ralston
Iwata
Holm
Kelly
Johnson
Haksabanovic
Oh

New look back up to Sundays starting 11 since the window opened,,
Sinisalo
Valle
Trusty
Welsh
Ralston
McCowan
Engels
Bernardo
Kuhn
Palma
Idah

One hell of a difference, and to make a debt in Europe you need players that aren’t a big drop off. You can only manage that one window at a time.

I’m being a pedant but young Engels has only been capped at under 15 through to under 21 level thus far albeit he has just been ‘called up” to the full international Belgium squad for the UEFA nations league. He has yet to win a full cap.

Billy Bhoy from last leader, I see the reason we never announced Cowan is we’ve had him for two months on a spoken agreement, but can you imagine the outcry if he was announced before the other money buys, cries of …. “Oh here we go again another Lawwell £1m player”.

So i’d say it’s more than likely his deal was agreed but left to last to announce after Engels Trusty and Valle to show the support that a chunk of change was spent.

Another thought could be we were chasing one other deal for a player that couldn’t get done and Luke was our backup,.

I think he’ll do a turn, won’t always play but good for resting others after or before CL games, another benefit being he fits into the home grown players category to meet EUFA squad regs

August 31, 2024 12:51 am

Oglach, yes you are being a pedant 😀

Billybhoy, I understand the PLC not spending all outgoing fee’s as,,,
A,,the new wages must be covered, did you hear Engles is on 48k. The new players will be on higher salary as they (in the main) are Internationals.
B,,PLC’s exist for profit.
C,,If the savings are for stadium expansion as rumoured I’m all for that.
I’m really not that worried about the figures, I’m more focused on the finer details, like spending 6 on a 26 year old (Trusty), which tells me the under 23 only model can be switched for a desirable player.
Even spending 11 on a player that wasnt on loan before.
That’s change. Change at Celtic is good.
We can’t moan about them then complain about change if you see what I mean.

We could have done a lot more this summer with the resources we have at our disposal.
We are fixing issues we never should have had in the first place.

GK — BR’s mate and a project.

LB with AV — never played a first division game so to me very much a project.
CB with AT — strange career / player banking with the Erse / backs to the wall everybody else.
Compare and contrast with CS and the fact that LS was our best defender in last season’s CL.

MF with PB — couldn’t make it when our MF was honking against his NT record and the CL games.
MF with AE — interesting growth play with form but the bigger question is how are we going to set up our MF to best effect if CMcG is guaranteed a game as captain. File under interesting / one to watch.
MF with LMcG — Graeme Sinclair 40 years on / seems to have a fair bit of talent + class.

CF with AI — I hope we took our own barrel / scored some good goals but looked very undercooked at times / 32 county connection was priced in.

Taken in the round we are better at LB / potentially better at CB and one of the new MF’ers has big shoes to fill — so to me not a great use of the last nine weeks or the resources we have at our disposal.

The galling thing for me now is that most of the improvement we will need to be CL credible will come from BR working with the existing squad especially the job lot of punts and projects that AP left in a drawer and we then went out and bought the lot because we nothing else to work with.

AJ — much better player than he was 12 months ago.
RH — needs to forget about the last 12 months and show us his real game — signs of progress.
OTH — needs to get his erse into gear and stop the wide boy attitude to training.
LP — needs to start playing for the team / medium sized fish in a biggish pond.
PB — needs to step up / play big in the SPL / one year older so looking good.
DM — some confidence / better finishing and he could be our breakout star this season.
NK — making progress.
YH-j — another who could mature with more playing time.

BR and his new bloke trainer have a lot of work on their hands.
CL credibility will come from the existing squad.
That is the big miss of the past 9 weeks.

Deadwood gains will win us nothing over the next 5 months.
Really is nothing to celebrate in the face of rampant tyre kicking.

Transfer drive “buys” on various young players with a bit of talent and a growing football reputation is not the way the club should be doing its business or be seen to do its business.

PL under pressure spaffs our cash on some amount of crap / basket cases — the summer of 2020 springs to mind.

PL taking stick in the street seems to have a similar effect.

The amount of money PL has wasted in punts / projects / Govan wind ups / pet agent favours is the disgrace we should be talking about.

His failure taints the club and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum don’t appear to have the smarts to break out of the mould that he put them in.
