A Parkhead reaction
When it comes to my thrice weekly articles, my habit of choice is listening to various podcasts throughout the day, deciding the topic, and slowly but surely envisioning how I will word the actual article so by the time I get home from work all that’s left is to type it up. So this morning I turn those trusty headphones on, push play, start taking onboard the assembled journalists and pundits points regarding the beautiful game,,,and within five minutes I’ve got my head in my hands saying out loud ‘Oh Shit!’. Allow me to explain.
Not long after the ending of two rivals clashing in our scheduled game, two other rival teams clashed.
In Glasgow the richer and bigger club emerged victorious by three of our goals to none of theirs.
The exact opposite happened in the other game. In our world renowned clash one side emerged with their reputation fully enhanced, with the opposition manager finding his jacket on a shoogly peg, the exact same happened down south.
“He won’t make it to Christmas” was the call, on both sides of the border.
And therein lies what could just become one hell of a problem for Timdom.
Have you guessed what it is yet? Eric Ten Haag getting the bullet, and the shortlist of his replacements. Any board worth their salt would have a certain Ulsterman high up, our certain Ulsterman.
Hence my ‘Oh Shit!’ because when Manchester United come calling, every single manager and player has a big big decision to weigh up, their name and the weight of their history demands it.
Look folks, I believe it’s best to throw it out there now and start having the conversation, simply because I believe ‘he’ will be in the frame for the job. Would any reader deny he’s unworthy?
Would any reader deny he does well with the players he inherits?
Would any reader deny he wouldn’t improve that shitshow of a football team at Old Trafford?
If you answered no three times, there’s the reasons he should be targeted by their board as the next messiah.
I’ll go further, he clearly holds an affinity for the EPL, and knows that division well, has won something down south plus lots up north proving he’s got what it takes to push his team over the line, and as things stand I cannot name any Brendan Rodgers signings that flopped showing he can buy well added to getting the best of his already in-house recruits.
Young enough to hang your hat on maybe longterm, smart enough to not only speak more than one language and progress his playing style through time as we currently witness, brave enough to take on tough challenges such as Liverpool and returning to Celtic,,,I see little downside when it comes to appointing the Carnlough man. All the above assets will attract coveting eyeward glances, probably offers throughout the EPL at various clubs. If United come calling though,,,
As usual I’ll throw my personal thoughts out there. Do I expect him to be offered that job, yes. They would be unwise not to.
Do I expect him to walk out mid-season again? No.
He would be wise not to.
It would go one of two ways, a refusal or a compromise. Not an immediate acceptance with a forlorn wave of the hand goodbye.
Not now he’s got his men (in the transfer market and the squad), not now he’s truly got his hand on the tiller of the club, not now he’s got the best chance to make that impact in Europe with the club, his personal ambition.
Hypothetical of course, but the easiest compromise would see Man United either sticking with Eric until seasons end only to replace him, or giving the job to one of the numerous caretaker candidates (Keane, Solskjaer, Bruce, Queiroz) and letting them see out the season before the main man enters the building.
I’m not saying that will be Brendan, but I’m saying if they are smart they will sound him out for the job.
I’m not selling our manager or anything, I’m saying we should be prepared for the offer to arrive, and get our collective heads around all that would entail. Having witnessed numerous first time foreign managers flop at Old Trafford, their shotcallers will surely have previous EPL experience as one of criteria. Sure theres plenty of impressive managers there currently like Unai Emery whose side we shall face, but the buyout come seasons end for an SPL manager with only one year left on the contract would be a lot cheaper than plucking an existing EPL manager under a longer contract.
Which leads me to my final point, once again I’m not trying to sell him, but could external interest see the board move to tie him down longer? Could this potential dark cloud on the horizon lead to the Parkhead boardroom making their move before others do?
Yes. Surely. He’s right man for our dugout, the right man to negotiate qualifiers, the right man to keep our beloved club moving upwards.
So while I was exclaiming ‘Oh Shit!’ earlier, it wasn’t necessarily in a negative sense, it was also in the realization that the biggest club in England might be forcing the biggest club in Scotland to take steps to secure their biggest footballing asset, and after that take steps to keep him satisfied and interested.
Ie, keep buying your own players, keep winning silverware at one of the world’s footballing giants, stay and build a legacy.
So ‘Oh Shit!’, United’s lose could actually become our gain.
I much prefer that, over the opposite. I get the feeling we all would.
Now I’m actually starting to hope they sniff around.
‘We’ve got a mess that needs sorting out’ versus ‘We’ve got a serious team now, the fanbase eating out of your hands, and Europe’s top tier of football times 8 at a minumum, plus you can stay as long as you want!’. It doesn’t sound like much of a choice does it?
But,,football is football, it can surprise you everyday. It’s not a normal industry, hell Martin O’Neill would have accepted the England managers job he once revealed. I can see the sporting reason, becoming immortal to an entire football mad nation IF he delivered trophies.
Osimhen (one of the worlds best strikers) just joined Galatasaray, Jose must be bloody fuming today.
Three Japanese guys are bossing the show in the Glasgow derby.
You just can never tell what’s going to happen in football, it’s a true life soap opera that has billions captured to every twist and turn. The world’s game indeed.
So I’ll discount nothing, not a thing. But knowledge is power, so they say. With the benefit of hindsight I will predict this,,,whether it’s United or not, the rags up north will do their very best to ‘sell him’. All season long, to any EPL club finding themselves leaderless. A giant sniffing around would be their manna from heaven, oh the figures that would get candied about, both salary and transfer budget. I reckon 200 a week and a 200 million warchest waiting on him from United according to the Scottish press, any takers?
So today’s article is both a foresight and a lesson, get used to Brendan’s being linked elsewhere, and let’s watch and see if there’s a Parkhead reaction.
There should be.
Sign that man up for longer, now!

*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #5 CELTIC 3 TRIGGERS BROOM FC 0 (MAEDA, KYOGO, McGREGOR)*
Good evening, friends.
When it’s the last day of the holiday, and the warmest sunniest day of it, it was a big call to stay in the apartment and watch a football game. But I am so glad I witnessed yesterday’s encounter ‘live’ as opposed to a full match re-run.
Our opponents started the game in predictable fashion, playing pretty direct and having most of the ball during those opening minutes. They also managed to pass up 2 very good scoring chances. However, the first real fast flowing football move of the match came in the 10th minute and had me leaping out of my seat as Kyogo finished off a brilliant move only to then be denied by the tiniest of margins with the Video Assistant Referee judging Kuhn to have been offside in the build up.
But from then on, the foot remained firmly on the gas and 6 minutes later we finally went 1 up. A terrific triangle passing move involving Kuhn, Bernardo and Johnston produced a ball into Maeda’s feet and our hippy scored against them again.
We continued to dominate the rest of the first half and in the 39th minute, the ever dependable Taylor stole the ball on half way and played a perfect pass to Kyogo. Our Japanese wizard must have wondered why Butland was standing near his right hand post and quickly hit an early pass of a shot curling beautifully into the left hand corner of the goal. 2 nil at half time was the very least we deserved.
Surprisingly, Voldemort decided against any half time changes and so the second half continued the way the first had ended with Celtic on top. On 62 minutes Arne Engels, Celtic’s most expensive signing ever, made his debut, replacing the very, very impressive Bernardo. And 10 minutes later the points were sealed when Captain Calmac picked up the ball on the right, shimmied inside for a bit and hit a peach of a left foot curler high into Butland’s net.
The second half also saw James Forrest make his 500th appearance in the hoops and Luke McCowan make his first.
All that was left to complete a memorable day was to see Kasper Schmeichel finally being tested, bringing off a couple of great stops in the closing stages.
I know others have already picked up on the wording in Mahe’s latest leader but it’s too good to ignore – WE ARE IN THEIR DIVISION BUT WE ARE OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE!
We have now played 5 games this season, winning them all. We have scored 15 and conceded 1.
And I am delighted that the voting numbers are up to a new season’s best for this one. A huge thank you to the 87 who joined in this time around.
The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.
Schmeichel: 1
Johnston: 9
Carter-Vickers: 3
Scales*: 38
Taylor: 9
McGregor*: 60
Hatate: 2
Bernardo*: 62
Kuhn: 10
Kyogo: 18
Maeda: 48
Engels: 0
Forrest: 1
McCowan: 0
Idah: 0
And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against The Deady Bears are –
Bernardo – 5 points
McGregor – 4 points
Maeda – 3 points
Scales – 2 points
Kyogo – 1 point
And the overall positions after 5 games played are –
16 points – McGregor
12 points – Hatate
11 points – Kuhn
9 points – Maeda
7 points – O’Riley
5 points – Bernardo and Scales
3 points – Forrest, Johnston A, and Taylor
2 points – Kyogo
0 points – Carter-Vickers, Engels, Holm, Idah, Johnston M., McCowan, Palma, Ralston, Schmeichel, Turley, Yang
*PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST*
As regular readers may remember, the monthly award is based simply on the total votes received over that particular month. During August we had 4 games, Kilmarnock at home, Hibs home and away and St Mirren away.
Tied for 2nd and 3rd place are Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate with 160 votes each. But the Player Of The Month for August with 184 votes is Calum McGregor.
We have now started one of those wonderful International Breaks and so our next game isn’t until Saturday 14th September when – at last! – we have a Saturday home game. And at 3.00pm too. Our visitors are Hearts.
Hail Hail!
I posted early because I want to read the reaction 😉

that article is shocking but not surprising
Mahe,
I agree, sign Brendan up.
As for the SMSM trying to sell him, the same will apply to our players.
I can see this especially with Bernardo this season.

Was listening to CSSB tonight and huns coming on saying they need someone to come in and buy the shares then spend money on the team as the can’t wait and do it gradually like Celtic.
Now, Simon Donnelly and esp Gordon Dalzell I can understand not knowing about FSR Rules coming in to play but, Gordon Duncan, as a Reporter should know that this can’t happen anymore.
Then again like the rest of the SMSM he’s too scared. 😁
===
I was tempted to phone and put him straight.
However he knows OK but Clyde will not risk losing half their audience.
Their business model is based on the myth that R2ngers are Rangers.
A large part of Scottish media depends on perpetuating the myth.
FSR could not be mentioned without making the connection for it’s existence, to stop R2ngers from repeating the cause of Rangers demise under SDM.
CaltonTongues,
Do you agree United will move for him?
Just curious, I don’t think the Liverpool link means that much.
Hail Hail
” 16 points – McGregor
12 points – Hatate
11 points – Kuhn
9 points – Maeda ”
oooh, it’s tough at the top. I wish we knew the bookies odds because anything can happen here.
Ill say it now, Hatate to take it again, two times in three years. I think Callum will get an injury, Maeda will be kicked out for a spell probably in Europe where he’s been identified as the dangerman, and maybe Kuhn doesn’t have the full season of consistent sparkle.
The defenders usually enter the fray after Eurrope, so don’t discount one of them. But if I were a gambler I would back Reo to take it.

In one of my responses yesterday where I suggested collaboration between DD and BR (I don’t buy into the division between The Board and Manager narrative of BR’s past experience it makes no sense) I suggested BR be made a Director to remain at Celtic for as long as it gave him a challenge.
I’ll add to that by suggesting BR is offered £Xm in shares.
What an incentive to stay and grow Celtic beyond the confines of Scotland.
Sorted.

Great idea Auldheid, as you’ve just read I expect the red devils to come sniffing. Tie him down, frontload the budget even.

IMO – Scottish football will never be cleansed until they publicly repent and return the stolen titles and cups.
That will never happen I know, but only that would give Scottish football a real chance.

I agree and think it unlikely unless PL has a metanoia moment and spills the beans in an attempt at redemption.
More no chance but ya never know.

BR is content at Celtic FC. The club that he was destined to manage. After his 3 year contract is up, who knows? After that, he has a perfect right to manage any club of his choosing. Manchester United is a poisoned chalice. No sane person would want to go there. FFS, they make the Huns look like a sensible choice. 😁☘️🍀
Hail Hail.
Magua,
“Manchester United is a poisoned chalice. No sane person would want to go there. FFS, they make the Huns look like a sensible choice. 😁☘️”
I just think they’ve made the wrong choices since Alex. All over the place, from the Dutch managers to David. One good appointment brings them back, like Jurgen did elsewhere.

Who needs the hassle? BR has made his mark in both Scottish and English football. Why tarnish the legacy? I hope the long weekend went well. 😁☘️🍀
Hail Hail.
Auldheid
me too
I’ll be surprised if he goes anywhere soon
Mahe,
I think if you look at BR’s transfer record you will see a few flops. Borini from Roma to L’pool; Praet from Sampdoria; Soumare from Lille; Markovic from Benfica. More recently, Daka has hardly set the heather on fire.
Every manager buys flops. BR is no exception.
I think that MU will go for a higher status manager than BR.
Besides there is a lot more to why he came back than has been made public. The gaping hole in the management structure is a lack of a football director. I suspect PL resisted such an appointment because of his micro managing tendencies and desire for control…control the transfer process and you control the cost side of the club.
The removal of Mark Lawwell suggests things are changing fundamentally at Celtic. At the risk of repeating myself, BR is doing the football director job as well as managing the first team. I suspect this was part of the package to get him to come back. I would not bet against him getting the director position and appointing a kindred soul as manager. Who that would be is unknown. Davies?

From late last night. I encourage all posters to read how easily we can be manipulated by pitifully inadequate cheap VAR technology and cheated by corrupt sleight of hand.
Celtic absolutely must call this out. Now is the time to do it. Kyogo’s first goal was a thing of beauty and it is an utter travesty of justice and the rules of the game that it was chalked off by the malign hand of a failed referee with zero integrity.

Brendan leaving?!
Lala lala lala
Not listening!
I believe Brendan is here for the long-term.
I believe that is the reason the club backed him like no other Celtic manager.
I believe him and the club are determined to establish us as a champions league regular.
I believe the board and Brendan are singing from the same hymn sheet.
I believe Brendan is happy in his professional life.
I believe we really are going places.
I believe.
When did we get Keech Jackson to start writing our leaders….
Seriously, though Mahe, I would be surprised if Man Utd came in for Brendan. Unless we flabbergast everyone in the CL this year.
An FA cup and Scottish trophies is not what their fans will be looking at in their next manager. Their shortlist will be winners of the top 5 leagues and / or European silverware.
But then again they tried that with LVG and Mourinnho…..
Oh shit!….
MAHE
Cool yer jets, mate. Man Utd are such a mess that they will probably have to stick with Ten Haag. Motto-No problem is too big to solve that signing another Dutchman won’t cure it!
Who would they find that could be guaranteed to fix this? How much will it cost to rebuild the squad to his liking? Can that be done under FSR? (Unlikely, since they are already stretching the boundaries.)
The amount of money that club has wasted in the last decade is criminal. And things have got worse with every passing year! I think they are FUBAR’d as a force in the foreseeable future. So too should any manager worth his salt.
Man United appear to have had two periods of success in their history.
One with Busby and the other when Fergie turned them into a real powerhouse.
Outside of that? Very sporadic.
Their biggest problem right now is trying to remain a champions league team, which they are not a the minute.
Check out how hard the daily record is having to work to try and provide some crumbs of comfort to the zombies.
Man U who cares?
Football by nature is a fragile business.
EPL participation guarantees them a far larger audience than the team deserves.
Buying Man U by Glazers using fans money was a brilliant heist on their part.
As the money is still flowing in ownership does not care about onfield success.
As we have witnessed at other clubs.
Mahe at the shit stirring again. Catch yourself on mate, next you’ll be writing articles about the demise of Celtic FC, just for effect- like a certain vintage gentleman, the rich bhoy of etims.
Auldheid- Thanks for your reply, to the crossover post last night, the twilight hours – Limbo Land.
We both think alike on all things related to football governance – bummer! 😉
Magua- hope you are good M8. I know Matt a wee bit, like you I will be eagerly awaiting for his new book to come out, about the 1930s Celtic team. Like you, Matt and many, many other’s, we all share a love of that great 1931 Celtic team, its not suprising really, the Triumph and the Tragedy of that great Celtic side. I have a really great piece about the E.XI. Trophy, a large handkerchief with all the Celtic players autographs of that team, plus the signature of Jimmy McGrory, who had left Celtic (if that’s even possible) just weeks before, all the signatures are written in biro pen, so I have to keep them all away from the daylight unless they fade and we lose them. But, what a thing to have.
Remembering Jimmy Johnstone – The wee man stole all our hearts, with his supreme talent and his infectious humour, on his game, no-one could get near him.
JIMMY, JIMMY JOHNSTONE ON THE WING- WHAE’S LIKE HIM, NAEBODY……
Good morning, friends.
An interesting lead Mahe which will certainly provoke responses!
Not sure that anyone has yet managed both Liverpool and Manchester United? And, no, I dont think it’s going to happen any time soon.
Lawwell sold Brendan to Leicester for £9m in 2019. If man utd come in with a huge offer I think will Lawwell will want him out. With Lawwell it’s always about the money.
does mahe know something we don’t ,or is it a coincidence neil lennon is available, be afraid be very afraid😀😀😀

Please keep thoughts, logical though they are, to yourself.
How am I supposed to concentrate on a round of golf now?
🙄
On our disallowed goal ..
Rather than concentrate on the on-screen lines (What exactly are they supposed to prove?), Look at both players feet and ask yourself, how far over Kuhn would need to be leaning to be ahead of Soutter? If the picture isn’t conclusive to us watching, how do they arrive at the verdict they do?
It was obvious a long time ago and it is even more obvious now, there is a combined effort being made to try everything they can to make it as competitive as possible. If that means bending lines and rules, it is done without hesitation because there is never anything or anyone to answer to. Celtic should have said those lines prove absolutely nothing.
As has been said a million times ..the time to question things is when we are winning.
Morning all,
Mahe,
Interesting article.
That old ginger wine over by must be the bees knees 😁😁😁
Can’t see Brendan going to Utd. The are the effffffeeshell basket case.
Brendan has a potential excellent team here, which could possibly get a lot better over time.
Upcoming Champions League matches will be a good indicator.

Fan – That’s what being a Celtic supporter means, its an emotional attachment that you cannot shift, and why would you want to? We all have feelings for our special players and we keep them close to us, I’m no different. Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Lennox, the only problem Bobby had was that he came from Saltcoats, a Ten Thirty Miles Away from Glasgow. 😉

BAD
The disallowed goal looked like usual Dallas anti Celtic bias to me.
The sniggering, sleekit’s on VAR have been worse on Poor Wullies watch.
As I said SFA thinking appointing an alleged fenian as head of VAR allowing them to cheat more!
Celtic won’t complain which in my mind is contributing to the decline of the game in Scotland as if they can do it in highest profile game in the country they can do it everywhere.
Until refereeing standards become the same as everywhere else in Europe there is no chance of football flourishing.
Bawheid / Auldheid
I have been thinking recently that we may finally be approaching the stage of having the opportunity of a serious discussion about what ACTUALLY happened in 2012 – and the continuity lie.
I say that as a scan across social media in general and hun sites like FF in particular shows a growing swell of utter bewilderment among the huns of their current situation.
”we are Espanyol”
”this isn’t MY Rangers”
”This isn’t the club I’ve followed for 50 years “
”I want my Rangers back “
”I can’t take this anymore “
”I’m 36 and don’t see a title before I reach 50”
Almost every thread on FF cries out about confusion, anger and despair.
They are all asking the same question. How did it come to this? Where has it all gone wrong? How do we turn this around?
I’ve done my very best to answer many of these questions on X since Sunday. I politely point out to them that they overspent by £10m every season since around 1986 to maintain a challenge that since 1994, when Fergus built a 60,000 stadium, has been futile.
Now, with the advent of FSR, they can no longer maintain a genuine and sustainable challenge so must find their rightful place in Scottish football, which is just ahead of the rest and miles behind Celtic.
Now, I’ve done this countless times since FT on Sunday and do you know something-I haven’t had a single response! The threads just die. I was expecting all manner of abuse but instead got total radio silence!
So, I think they know. They’ve probably always known that their success since 1986 was fake but pretended not to. It’s unavoidable now. Not one of them can see a way out of their Espanyolification.
That’s because there isn’t one.
Whet this means for Scottish football – and our future TV deals – going forward God only knows.
Is there any other League that’s 4 games in which is the foregone conclusion that ours is? Can’t think of one.
I know not everyone will agree with me. I have this strong belief as I’ve missed our first two home games so far and keenly feel like the League is over before I attend a match. I can tell you it’s a bloody weird feeling- and utterly unprecedented in the 40 odd years I’ve been attending Paradise.
It seems that 90% of our adversaries across the city feel exactly the same way.
So, as I said at the start, perhaps we’re approaching the stage of having a Truth and Consequences Forum in Scottish Football. Get everything out into the open and then all move forward together on the same page.
It’s quite clear that it’s absolutely cringeworthy to have Sky constantly big up the “Old Firm” clash while fans of every other club continually mock the continuity nonsense.
They’re just not ever going to be allowed to get away with it and after more than a decade it’s all a bit pathetic.
Maybe the huns are finally reaching the acceptance stage of 2012 and we can all turn the page together?
If Celtic own the term “Old Firm”, I believe they should start charging media outlets/football clubs/engine room subsidiarys for use of the term.
STV Sport/BBC etc want to use it in their broadcast then it’s £10k for each mention.
The Daily Record/The Sun etc want to print the term ‘Old Firm’ in their newspapers then it’s £50k each time they do.
If someone wants to put the term ‘Old Firm’ on a banner over the tunnel the players emerge from when Celtic play at Ibrox then that’ll be 1 million pounds.
Any and all profits generated from this to be donated to The Celtic Foundation and SCIAF.
We’ll soon see the term rendered redundant.

Great point about how domestic refereeing standards damage the game. Apart from anything else, look at the confusion of the huns every time they get a decision against them in Europe.
Which always makes me smile…
BILLYBHOY 1115
Great comment. Yes,they are in pain and we are loving it. But it’s the question of turning things round that is screwing with their collective brain cell.
Billy Bhoy – Auldheid will give you a definitive reply on that subject, the most knowledgeable person regarding honesty in Scottish football.
Personally I’m not on social media, gave it up many years ago when I retired. But I can say this. I wrote countless times to Scottish newspapers, some even local to me, particularly those that showed courage when reporting crimes and on the subject of honesty in Scottish football, I never once had a reply, not even an acknowledgment or a receipt, nothing.
Same with the Zombies, when it comes to discussing supporters of R2angers, they have shut of the small brain tissue that they retain to any kind of acceptance of wrong doing by Murray or the old club, but I believe that Murray is shunned, so they know alright. Tuping of players, the loss of thousands of debenture seats, don’t want to hear. So, for me, you can only speak to a coos erse so many times without a reply. Take it you read my post last night on page three, (no, not thee page three) at 11,30ish.
Good post, well said, I agree.

“Facts are chiels that winna ding,” a reason why http://www.res12.uk was built in the hope that the truth would emerge over time.
What Rangers did under SDM was a crime against their fellow member clubs in the SFA. Fraud, which required a fraudulent narrative to cover it up.

I think you disagreed with my point re their fitness being superior to Celtic’s – perhaps I meant ‘stamina’ rather than ‘fitness’. They are a bit like a boxer who just won’t go down but have no chance of winning as they’ve not enough of a punch left themselves to inflict any damage. We punched ourselves out a bit and often have versus them over the last 6 years
Billy Bhoy @ 11.15
Great post. Can’t add anything except to repeat that as a support they seem resigned to things getting worse and will do so for a while yet. Things have unravelled for them since Gerrard left. I do not like to write about them too much because I think they have occupied the thoughts of Celtic- plc and supporters- too much for too long. They are not irrelevant but they should not guide our thinking either.
Mahe
BR to Man Utd?
Canny see it. In fact I’d go as far as to say I would doubt he would even be on Ratcliffe’s longlist to replace Ten Haag. Too much of a historic connection to Utd’s biggest and most hated rival, a patchy record in the EPL and Europe as well as the sense that Rodgers’ best days are behind him, no longer a coach on the rise but one job away from being a hack manager – 2020’s Mick McCarthy or Big Sam. An Irish ‘Poch’
I don’t know if I think Ratcliffe would be right to make such assumptions. But I think he will be making them
In fact I tend to think Brendan Rodgers is smart enough to spot a basket case when he sees one and may have ambitions for the team he is managing now. Celtic.
Coming into town on Sunday post-match one of those I was with floated the idea that Rodgers may be seeking to get in with the bricks with us. Last week’s dealings off the park suggest to me that there is new thinking inside Celtic and Brendan himself has partly driven the move away from Lawwellism which was not just fiscally conservative but a lazy way to do things. The idea that a business might actually make money by giving some thought to what it does -in this case play football- may have taken root.
I am not sentimental when it comes to Brendan Rodgers and will never again feel the same way I did towards him 7 years ago but I wonder if he sees an opportunity to actually mould the club he manages in the way that he wants not what rather boring accountants do. I think Rodgers is vain enough to want a legacy that , like Willie Maley’s and Jock Stein’s, is irrefutably and positively ingrained into Celtic’s history. Someone who has made us famous because we are good at playing football and punch above not below our weight. Even if I still think BR’s motivation is selfish it would be a win-win if he succeeds. It’ll take work and we’ll need a miracle to ever go ‘deep’ in the Big Cup again but wouldn’t it be better trying than just settling for being a wee bit better than the basket cases from one stop along from Cessnock?
Sorry for rambling on but that’s what happens on my day off
