Right Engels
It’s not everyday the world famous Glasgow Celtic might issue a first start to a Belgian International who happens to be our record signing and by all accounts seriously talented.
It’s not everyday Celtic could actually help Scotlands top flight.
On this occasion the two go hand in hand, and I’ll explain why.
Hearts are our opponents and they are also seriously underachieving. I don’t care about the name, neither should you, but if every other team ups their game then Celtic are forced to. While we remain in the SPL, we should want strong challenge not just a walkover, and Hearts are not strong under Naismith, I’ve seen other managers do much better with those resources.
My hopes and dreams for this fixture include a statement home victory, alongside a debut goal for who else but Arne Engels, plus no injuries. But I’ve also gotta deal with the reality of the situation, meaning their manager could save his job by pulling off a shock.
In essence, he will send out a hard to score against side, hoping to stifle the game and take advantage of their opportunities. One might contend that’s perfect practice for the midweek game,,a tough team to break down.
But will they be? Seems like we can sweep through anyone at the moment. I contend it would be a serious statement of intent of we go out there and blow them away, but yet I wouldn’t be surprised at wholesale changes and an easy 2 goals up so just relax type of win.
I’ve never, ever, known such good competition within the squad, and as previously stated I expect this starting eleven to be the midweek starting with one coedition, they all sparkle enough to keep their place.
And that’s why Arne will probably start, it makes sense to get that over and done with.
And that’s why I’m seriously jealous of all you reading attendees today.
He was never going to risk anything on his actual debut given the stakes, but rather played safe and easy alongside a bit of footballing intelligence. His first start though,,,it’s usually the opposition on European nights that have an 11.5m young talent in the middle of the park.
I suppose that’s what excites me the most, it’s the correct area to ‘fix’, it’s been our bane in Europe, it’s the correct area for a player who will hopefully be a difference maker. And that’s where the biggest question lies, just what have we spent all this money on?
I mean are we talkin Stylian Petrov or Tom Rogic here?
Today from 3pm onwards we can start answering that question, as hopefully Arne begins his Celtic career in earnest.
Shine on you Belgian diamond.

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.
⭐️👏☘️👍🍾
That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is
If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on for the nominated charity as well! The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.
Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?

For me it’s same again. Players that started against sevco have earned their place. Another half hour for Arne, think we all want to see him though. COYBIG
Substitute for me as feel the Hun skelping starters of the last game earned the right
Good morning, friends and a Big Happy Matchday to all who post or lurk on this fine site.
Engels will definitely get game time today but, like John A I suspect it’ll be another half hour off the bench. For me, we start with the same 11 that kicked off against Triggers Broom. No need to disrupt my existing spreadsheet 😉
I mind there was a time last season when the football was so turgid we were bemoaning the fact we weren’t getting the same buzz before a game that we did with ange ball.
Well… can’t wait for today.
Re the line up. I wouldn’t be surprised if CCV and AJ are wrapped in cotton wool before wed. Idah def needs match time based on what we have seen so far this season and the new boys need blooded for the CL. I couldn’t hazard a guess at the line up.
I wouldn’t be surprised, if there are 3/4 changes , with Wednesdays game in mind.

New Celtic documentary
Engels will start imo. Hatate most likely to drop out. Bernardo and CalMac are the only two certainties for MF slots after recent performances.
3 points and no injuries please Celtic.
SANLUIS
Yep,my thinking too. With those three, they can swap the 6-8-10 roles at will. Not sure Reo can play anywhere other than his starting role.
Hi guys , need a bit of help here . My nephew is heading to cork today , any recommendations where he will see the game . Thanks in advance .,HH

That might not be too easy,as the game isn’t on Sky. Hopefully I can give you an answer soon.

Hi Ernie
I Don’t know if you heard WC on the RC phone in this week. This question came up. Now, Willie didn’t and it the way I thought he would or should have IE acknowledging past bigotry etc but he pointed out that they are trying to encourage people (not peepul) into the profession and if they were to declare blue or green persuasion then they’re effectively barring themselves fro virtually every big game: semi finals, cup finals, Glasgow Derby games etc.
####
No I didn’t hear the programme, but it’s good to know that WC has given the matter some thought and has concluded, rightly, that the main reason they can’t have referees declare allegiances is that it would cause the system to fall apart. Not just as the top level, but throughout the game.
The problem though is that his thought process stopped at that point. No surprise really. Referees are unlikely to be the go to guys if you want blue sky thinking. Blue room maybe, blue sky not so much.
I’d suggest a more effective and certainly quicker solution, having acknowledged the nature of the problem, and it’s intractability within the confines of Scottish football, would be to look outwards and see if it isn’t possible to bring in referees from outside for the controversial games whilst still allowing Scottish referees a career path to referee at the highest level. The simplest way of doing that would be to have a mutual arrangement with the FA to have non Scots ref some games in Scotland and Scots refs to officiate in EPL games. That , I think, would have attractions for refs north and south of the border.
Same team as the huns game, no need to change it

I did think the mibs were being shunned by UEFA for internationals, however referee John Beaton took charge of the recent Czech Republic/Ukraine fixture.

Apparently,The Friars Walk Tavern is the place. Just remind him not to order Guinness!
Many thanks mick . Must be a story attached to the Guinness pal
I think it’s great that we now have a few more options to change the starting line up, without worrying about a drop in standards.
No complacency today. I’d start with our strongest XI. To me, that’s the team that started the last game (if all are fit). If AJ or CCV are carrying knocks, we have Ralston and Trusty available.
Would expect to see Engels getting some game time but he hasn’t trained much with the rest of the team since arriving, so will still need bedding in. Might be risky to start him today, as it could upset the rhythm that the regular 3 midfielders have built up.
Idah also needs game time. But again, better from the bench for me.
Ultimately, it’s great to see BR have the increased options that he’s been asking for. In Brendan I trust.
HH
It rips my knitting, because you look at the pictures from the past, his name is recorded in all the team sheets of that era, you read the match reports, but you hardly ever see or read about
the “Lisbon Lion” – John Clark.
Is John Clark faceless, is he the forgotten Lisbon Lion? no never, a thousand times never. He was the ultimate sweeper, allowing Billy McNeill to proceed in a northerly direction.
Franz Beckenbauer – The ‘Becks’ of his time, but both ‘Becks’ and ‘Franz’ couldn’t lace John Clarks boots. Plus he was better looking. The man from Bellshill, because of his quiet demeanour must surely deserve to be remembered as one of the glorious Lisbon Lions, lets hear it for
“The Sweeper” – even Sooty and Sweep are mentioned more and they won absolutely nothing.
We will always remember John Clark, how you played and your unswerving loyalty to the Celtic FC.

Auldheid…your unwavering faith in human nature is absolutely incredible, fair play to you!
====
I think part of human nature is selfishness to one degree or another.
Do you disagree?
Thus the way to bring change about is to point out how change benefits those resisting it.
The resistance changes when it produces negative outcomes.
That takes time to be recognised then change happens.
Watch Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland for a good example.
So whilst I look for good and generosity in human nature I’m not blind to the not so good.
Over and out.
BAWHEID
I can’t comment on,or do justice to,John Clark. Just too young to fully appreciate him the few times I saw him. But the respect and admiration for him from those who saw him speaks volumes in itself.
More to the point,Jock and the rest of The Lions knew exactly how important he was. And all of that is good enough for me.

Going outside of Scotland to make up the supply of referees is part of the proposal SC put to Celtic.
They in turn can discuss with WC.
Weekly acca is
Mansfield
Sunderland
Arsenal
Reading
Liverpool
Stevenage
Good luck, everyone! And please remember to stick a quid on for LCCT,our nominated charity.
Can we stop with the ‘RE teacher “please.
In trying to demean him it demeans us.

I wouldn’t describe what I’m suggesting as ‘going outside Scotland to make up the supply of referees’. A one way flow wouldn’t work. There has to be something in any proposal to make it attractive to Scottish refs, hence the opportunity for them to take EPL games and cup games in England. Without that aspect Scottish refereeing would wither on the vine.
So some form of amalgamation between top flight refs from both countries. To head off objections that it might threaten the integrity of the independence of the Home Associations the scheme could be presented as an emergency, temporary, experimental measure to solve an urgent issue and subject to review after say five years.
The status quo is absurd. It can’t be allowed to continue.

Bobby,
I did have the pleasure of watching John Clark playing for Celtic, its a treasured memory, that’s why it disgusts me that he doesn’t receive a mention when people write about the Celtic team of that era.
I also treasure the memory of being at Celtic Park and saying goodbye to some of those departed players, it sounds morose but it was a great honour to see their cortege pass bye and the emotions on display from family and supporters alike.
Packy – It was always named Celtic Park, it was named that by the founding fathers, Dr. John Conway in particular, I know that some folks called it Parkheid, but for me that was an area around Celtic Park- So there. 😉
Magua – Caught your reply days ago, apologies for not getting back quicker but like your recovery sometimes my IT bloke ie Mrs Bawheid says naw. Good luck with the recovery, I’m still enjoying the Celtic Jersey Book.
Talking about IT is he still “Gone Fishing” that lucky supporter, has there ever been an unlucky one?
don’t think so, being a Celtic supporter is a calling, it sets quite serious commitment’s and parameters. “Hooked On Fishing” by J H Hartley, AKA -The Big Fisherman. How big is he?
HI bawheid hope you are well pal👍it will always be parkheid to me, although I agree with your point👍
the last game I ever attended with my late uncle packy was against hearts at parkheid ,sorry bawheid 😎😎remember didie agathe getting the ball and running full pelt boy was he fast and stevie fulton trying to catch him,,,also remember at half time and looking round there was Jim traynor with his headphones on, then noticed davie provan and the ex rainjurs guy hately, eating some parkheid pies, hope they paid for them, another true story.LOL 😂 👍
Many thanks mick your some man pal.
I sent over the Guinness piece .it’s a right good read lol . Does your dad and sisters still frequent the CC .I sat with him a few times and the girls a few times .never in a pub now . A few of us travelled down to Nottingham forest game UEFA CUP GAME 1883 on the garryowen bus .think your dad said he was on it .

Breaking News!! ⚡⚡
Ranges chairman John Bennett has resigned!! 😲
Health issues apparently.
Teams up and Engels starts…
Schmichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, Hatate, Engels, Kuhn, Kyogo, Maeda…
JIMTIM
Small world, but I forgot you were one of the Ayrshire Tims! My Dad doesn’t get to the games so often, but my sisters and their pals are almost always in the CC before the games.
My Dad was one of the founders of The Garryowen in 1969. Hell knows where it leaves from now, because there’s hardly any pubs left in Ardrossan. Back in the days of the Forest game, there were well over a dozen. And even more than that in Saltcoats.
Subs…
Sinisalo, Trusty, Palma, Idah, Valle, McCowan, Bernardo, Forrest, Ralston.
MACCARGO
Six of the bench were only signed in the summer.
Engels in for Bernardo….
Hail Hail
Bernardo substitute today.
Arguably our best player against der zombie.

16 Roads…
Yes, Bernardo on the bench is very interesting…
Goid to see Engels start though
Hail Hail
Chairbhoy – probably just rest/squad rotation.
Don’t forsee any issues, although I believe Hatate could benefit from some competition for his place.
He hasn’t been playing to the best of his ability recently.
HH.🍀
BMCW….
We may just be seeing the start of Brendan 2.0!
Engels for Bernardo makes sense, home game, Bernardo played two full games captaining Portugal’s U21’s and we’re about to launch into a game every three to four days for a while.
Any win will do but it would be nice to be home and hosed for half time and give Idah a half and McCowan a half and blood young Valle.
