Yer Man sings once more
He used to be ‘the fat man’ but that’s not politically correct anymore. I almost went with large, but that’s more than likely non PC these days, so yer man it is, in all his vocal greatness.
Under the lights, 8pm locally which leaves enough time for the Dutch Courage, the special banners, the extra whole hearted Walk-On ended by that roar and another upon the breaking of the Huddle,,,there’s not many, if any, finer places to be than Celtic Park on those hallowed Champions League nights.
Especially when it’s a winnable game. It feels strange typing that, I usually fear each and every opponent but things have literally changed.
The one-off tie, now that suits Celtic in Europe. The two in three chance of progression as opposed to the old format, music to my ears. Eight different opponents with European football guaranteed after Christmas, bring it on because that’s when this team comes alive remember. Of course, making those post-Christmas games meaningful is the trick, and that slow march begins tonight on own hallowed turf against Slovakian opponents.
Off the top of my head they will be technically good, fast and athletic, and hungry for anything,,,player, ball, point(s). The non native ref will be busy as they will claim everything and anything, plus foul proficiently. Let’s hope he’s strong.
Celtic will be strong tonight, because it’s what we do nowadays. We are a big game team with many big game players, and a squad others in Scotland can only dream about. We are a good team, one with heart and endeavor, a team with proper spirit alongside a great sprinkling of talent. After 3 transfer windows post return, Brendan has a full complement (16 these days) worthy of donning the Hoops. We have a style of play, we routinely score (quite a lot) while conceding very few, we carry momentum and once again possess a sense of unity. There’s not much to complain about after the summer splurge and the team storming out of the blocks, and there’s plenty to look forward to now that we are refreshing the first team.
We shall face much sterner tests, but I suggest this is the ideal opener, and an occasion for players to make an impact,,,Engels, Kyogo, Kuhn, Maeda, AJ, and also maybe Bernardo who has seen his fair share of starts in Europe. It’s also the ideal team because it’s actually a bit of continuity, smaller club visits Parkhead and will more than likely attempt to defend and con the ref.
Erm,,,we face this week in, week out. Only a fool would have an older team go on the attack tonight, their manager will set them up to frustrate and take advantage of a set piece, play for a point so their dream continues. Many try that, nearly all fail. Our passing, workrate, and movement wins out on the day, with an average of just under 3 goals per game.
So tonight is a night for Celtic to play ‘their’ game, we aren’t a dirty team at all, and five subs takes care of any falling for the bait. We don’t wanna get pulled into anyone else’s type of game, it’s our turf and I for one am curious to see how this new Brodge-ball copes against a new name that may or may not shrink under ‘the roar’ especially if one down and/or getting outplayed.
I want us to be tested but I don’t want unexpected drama, rather I’d prefer three quick counter attacking thrusts result in goals to tell me the system is working outwith Scotland and USA, plus I’d love a team made goal for all around justification of the belief these are special times with a special team under a special manager.
All I can say is, I wish I was there.
It’s not just yer man’s singing,
It’s witnessing the beginning of a new era.
A Brendan Rodgers styled Celtic team in Europe once again allied with this (I tip my hat UEFA) new format.
Paradise will rock once again, and may the back of their net do the same.
We need to pass this test, to prove we are worthy (and getting ready) for the bigger tests to come.
Let’s do this Celtic!
Up The Hoops!

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.
⭐️👏☘️👍🍾
That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.
Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

Good morning fellow Celts,

Good morning friends and a Big Happy Champions League Matchday to all who post or lurk on this fine site.
Good morning on Matchday 1,or as the huns call it,Wednesday
A tonic for the troops Mahe.
Should read that out to the players tonight.
Interesting test ahead.
How good are we?
Tonight a lesser test than what lies ahead.
BR hasn’t the best European record so it will give us an idea how much we have learned?
FAN
Bratislava are amongst the lowest rated clubs in the tournament. We should have the beating of them. In that respect,it’s an ideal start to our fixtures. Gives us a wee boost heading into the rest.
However,we’ve been here before on many an occasion. And if things don’t go to plan,it will be a severe boot in the baws.
Mahe
Getting the juices flowing buddy.
Agree, we face much sterner tests. Last nite watching two of our future opponents suffer skelpings, it’s already clear, and mucho thanks to Jobo’s spreadsheet thang ( cracking idea btw) we really, really need to take 3 points tonight.
Just Do anything to grab 3 points. Result is everything and poise, elegance and flair can wait…
This ain’t no dress rehearsal!
C’mon Celts!
Toto Schillaci RIP
Can’t wait for this to get started.
A fully fit squad.
We have conceded an average of 2 a game in Europe over the last 3 years meaning on average we have to score 3 to win.
I think Schneichel is gonna feature heavily in Jobos lists in these games. He could be the one that gets us points on the board in the way La Grand Muralla used to do.
This is why we fell in love with football, its games like tonight’s game that get the juices going, so much to look forward to and to get excited about. European football is the pinnacle of football.
A top manager, some wonderful players a sell out ground, cash in the attic, if you cannot enjoy tonight……………. A wonderful opportunity to put points on the board. COYBIG.

Sorry — have to disagree with your article.
Step away from the “optimism” pills — you are surely having a laugh …
The squad is very much a work in progress with lots still to do.
We are still working to deliver a MF that knows what it is doing and performs every week.
The LHS of the defence is still sub-standard and the world — and his “wife” knows it.
LS needs more coaching / experience while GT is a MF’er filling in at LB.
Two late alternatives still getting up to speed with the team / coach.
We have taken our annual qualifier challenges and transferred them into the league stage.
Consequently we are not quite CL ready even if the fixture computer is our friend.
Tonight will be a great test — second rank opponents who are effective / stuffy / organised.
In other words a budget version of us so we will learn a lot — who we are / where we are.
CL progress this season — more resilience / fewer schoolboy howlers / more MIB understanding.
Plus less fear in the stands — we are currently terrified of the CL.
Looking for DM to really raise his game and deliver the goals he is capable off.
Need NK to grow into the games / the competition and take our play forward.
Big stage for AE to show his undoubted talent and ability — more natural than MOR by a mile.
Plus KS to provide the “yellow wall” we will need if we are to progress.
My thoughts — huge stage / great opportunity / big games but a thin squad.
If we can get rid of the cobwebs from the Hertz game then we should win by 2.
However it will be a tough game.
Really looking forward to tonights game.
We really need to be getting 3 points from our first home game.
Schmeichel , the signing of the summer, could make all the difference to our team.
MM
Bit much calling Taylor a motherfucker, innit?
BMCUW
That position is new to me — Samuel L Jackson is a leading light in the intricacies of the role — so how exactly does it fit in with modern possession based football?
GT is even worse — he is a Killie spec MF’er.
You don’t get that in Hollywood.
BMCUWP
Far be it from me to defend Mad Mitch and I am not always fluent in the code he uses but I think he means that Greg Taylor is a midfielder.
I share Mitch’s realism re tonight though. Beginning with Maribor 10 years ago we’ve lost too many home games to teams with fewer financial resources and/or from countries with no bigger populations than Scotland to allow me any optimism when it comes to European games. I hope we win obviously but cannot say I expect us to.

We are still working to deliver a midfield that knows what it’s doing? 😆 not dropped a point of lost a goal 😂
You do talk some absolute pish.
Funny how you keep disappearing every time the hoops absolutely skelp your real team, eh?
Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me 😉
MM
The World’s Wife here.
Greg Taylor is not a midfielder turned defender.
To say so hints at a misunderstanding, however tongue in check, of that role in the modern game.
Im sure you said the same of Jeremy Frimpong !
Steve,
He’s just raging the mighty hoops are playing in the big tourney tonight.
Just on to try and spread a bit of negativity.
Never a Tim in a million years
Agree with MM re. LHS of defence.
Still unable to find a left back who can defend.
I’m sure Brendan will want to stay 4-3-3 tonight, rather than trying to fit four midfielders in.
Question is what 3 will start middle to front? I doubt he brought in Arne to be a sub on nights like this.
The manager has earned the right to call it as he sees it.
Just brilliant to have such good options.
5 sub option tonight??
Mot posting until after the game … not a jinx thing or anything like that … but was going to say that having beat Midtjylland in the last round, they won’t be mugs …. But because bloody autocorrect kept ‘correcting’ Midtjylland, it took me an hour to post that !
AFTERNOON ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA just poured masel a wee hauf Joan said hey do you know how much that cost, listen I said its to calm my nerves we are playing VOJVODINA tonight in the european cup and they are a bliddy good team, ha liverpool would beat them easy, sorry hunnybunch but liverpool got knocked out😎😎👍 im expecting a tough game with only one goal in it,😎 just looked at the label on this whisky boatle LAPHROAIG never heard of it COYBIG🍺🍾🍷
I expect goals tonight.

Kyogo, Maeda and Engels to score.
The Sopranos documentary is brilliant

Coffee spluttered over keyboard, Bobby.🤣 Very funny.😂
Possibly because that term is in very common usage in the US of A, and the contrast with typical Sentinel Celts exchanges is delicious.😅
4-0
Firestick app….under Series tab,Wise Guys it’s called
Hi Magua hope you are well this wife of mine keeps going on about all the European cups Liverpool have won but she fails to mention the 1966 game when we were cheated bobby Lennox scored a perfectly good goal and it was ruled offside another true story 👍
Watched a bit of Sporting Lisbon’s games of late, including bits of yesterday’s game (still have some way to go until I am at Inq’s level!) …. cant understand how they managed to buy Gyokeres from Coventry for only 20 million, and why no English team made a move for him … he is a beast and clinical … even now, I dont understand why there hasn’t been more noise about top teams moving for him…
Bus in 35 minutes and time for a few red wines 🍷 😋.
As I said before, came oot that HCTS and was only buying CL tickets if we bought decent players. The last day of the window made up my mind.
You don’t get installments outwith the HCTS so buying my group cost £500 ouch. At least I get it back tonight 🤪
Big Packy
The Bobby Lennox goal? Referee admitted he had made a mistake, once he was safety back in his homeland. Bassa. The final was to be played at Hampden. Dortmund beat the Pool to claim their first European trophy.
Hail Hail.
MAGUA spot on, and you wonder why I hate scousers .hope wee joan isn’t lurking🙏🙏
joking aside, ive been to many european nights at parkhead 👍😎😎😎 just want us to win and put up a good performance, thats all you can ask👍

That’s the worst thing about using abbreviations a suppose – open to interpretation.
Half monkeyed already, with still over 3 hours to kick off.
🍺 🐒
whose using abbreviation’s not me😎 hope you are well 16 roads, ya oul fenian 😎👍
Managed to fix my app issue on the TV, but still baffled by inability to toggle sound bar on laptop on either control bar or in settings. So it’s going to be Sparta – Salzburg with sound, and Bologna – Shakhtar without sound to start with.
Big Packy,
I am lurking, and you are in trouble! You’ll be sleeping with the dogs tonight!
🙂

Seamus says not to worry… he’ll share his dog bed with you tonight (as long as you bring a few pounds of square sausage when you come).
