If I were King,,,
If I were King I like to think I wouldn’t behead my ex ala Henry the 8th, but I would certainly make changes to the beautiful game, even the Roman’s decided to change the game when throwing Christians and other poor souls to the lions for a simple mauling. On Tuesday that Christian was us, the Germans were the lions, and like the Coliseum it got boring.
To be honest it already is boring, the Champions League revamp was a response to Superleague and the staleness of the old 4 teams, one from every pot, virtually guaranteeing the two big guns go through, but results like that show anyone displaying rational thought the futility of dreaming unless you support a club that plays in one of the Top4 leagues. It tried to become a Top5, but the PSG experiment simply highlights that even incredible player investment isn’t enough. If those players they bought alongside a top manager couldn’t win the Big Cup, then investment alone is not the answer to footballs biggest problem,,,the big guns are pulling away from the others and sewing up football.
It’s a worldwide problem, inherent in Scotland, England, Spain, almost everywhere, not just a Champions League thing. Dortmund did to us what we do to the St Johnstones of this world, on the biggest stage such scorelines should spark concern AND ACTION.
I’ve read or listened to the fallout here and elsewhere, watched the blame-game since we shipped seven, and while I do not claim to be the wisest nor a sage, I continually return to the main reason that’s it’s overwhelmingly likely one of the clubs from the Big4 will be crowned the best in Europe year after year.
The level of competition they face forces a high level in each and every league game and usually in the Cups.
That’s hardly rocket science, it’s generally acknowledged, but what never happens is addressing the issue that slowly saps the beautiful from the beautiful game. It’s not healthy to be treble favourites, for a League to be wrapped up automatically upon kickoff, for a team to be invincible throughout an entire season.
FSR has helped keep clubs alive, but it also cements the status quo.
It alone shall not resolves footballs ails.
Only a once in a generational talent shall even have a chance at lifting that trophy outwith the Big 4 clubs, and as much as we loathe Jose (with good reason) he stuck it up to the rest by bringing it back to Portugal. And in retrospect I’m glad Greece stuck it up to the rest of Europe that time, but that’s only two examples in a generation, the game itself needs to offer more when the vast majority of supporters are offered ‘merely’ the event instead of a genuine shot at glory.
Football as a whole is shortsighted, but individually that’s not fully true. Bayern gave Dortmund a loan, Ajax helped pay for other clubs plastic pitches to be replaced by the real thing, Celtic helped save R2ngers (ahem), and recently we witnessed the questionable but legal practice of EPL clubs paying almost the exact purchasing figures needed for the selling club to comply with FSR.
The interdependence Audheid often writes of is not lost on others, nor our board but that’s raking over old coals. We do need each other, every club needs each other to an extent. We need a Dortmund as much as they need a Celtic, without such affairs there would be no European Cup, nor star on the jersey via the miracle of Lisbon. What we dont need is the modern day gulf in class from the best of the Big 4 to the chasing pack, and I’ve yet to hear any expert put forth any common sense proposal to halt this crazy slide that just would not be allowed to happen in US sports. I’m not saying they are perfect, but they sure are unpredictable and dynasties are rare. There’s no Man City’s here if that makes any sense, and I’m talking over multiple sports, NFL, NHL, Basketball, Baseball, even the ‘soccer’ here is unpredictable.
I’m no expert as you all know by now but I can put forward one pathway towards the equality football needs, and whether you agree or disagree I assure you I will not take it personally, it’s only an opinion as valid as yours. And I realize it won’t happen BUT I have witnessed clubs acting for the bigger picture as I stated above.
Okay, so if one considers football, specifically European football, as a broad block but a block nonetheless, interdependent as mentioned previously, there’s the leader/shotcaller overseeing us all,,UEFA.
The DaddyManager/Boss, ruler of the household, the man in charge, the hand that feeds in many cases (we wouldn’t have signed Engels/Idah without that income).
They say a dog doesn’t bite the hand that feeds it, but it’s clearly UEFA’s duty to protect all that falls under their umbrella,,clubs, supporters, and perhaps most importantly the competitiveness of its competitions. It may opt to go down to coefficient route, it may opt for more Top4 competitors to help avoid ‘embarrassments’ such as a 7-1 mismatch, but in the long run becoming more insular is self harm.
Common sense dictates that widening the potential winners pool widens interest, it also dictates widening interest in the game in general, and at this stage of the game (pardon the pun) there is one solution that’s a lawyers dream but the football fans utopia.
UEFA sell the television/internet rights to European football competitions and leagues as an all encompassing block, and divide said income equally between members.
I ask you, what would the Aberdeens of this world become if they had an equal slice of the TV pie and a good board/great manager? They already answered that question two generations ago when things were equal enough. The giants of every league would have their history, bigger fanbase/stadia hence bigger matchday income plus more commercial revenue,,,Celtic would still earn more than Aberdeen but would face much stiffer competition every week should the extra income be used well by the recipients.
Competition is healthy as the old saying goes, hence those competitively healthy Top4 league clubs dominating the big one for 2 generations now.
However variety is the spice of life, and variety would spice up football with its stale big guns dominating and the rest eating crumbs recipe.
If I were King I would hand nations the exact same amount, the union in UEFA meaning equal spoils, and then enjoy watching the ‘fresh faces’ compete whilst watching others level up.
Aye, I know, I’ll keep dreaming.
But where there’s a will there’s a way.

Emdy fancy a great night out? Just got this from a good friend,Frank, who many of you will already know either in person or as VFR.
Not sure if you know, but my wife Jacky came out of retirement a couple of years ago to run St Margaret’s adoption agency, the only Catholic adoption agency left in the UK. She now has it back on its feet after some significant issues.
I have been roped in as an Ambassador for the charity and one area I am looking at is fundraising. My big ticket item at the moment is a dinner dance we are running in the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 22nd November at 7:30. This is the first of what we intend to be an annual event to coincide with the Feast Day of St Margaret of Scotland, our Patron Saint (November 16th).
So as you can imagine, I have the begging bowl out! I am contacting like-minded people to see if they are willing to take a table for the event (or just some tickets). Individual tickets are £50 with the tables at £500. We are also looking for sponsorship for the event, ranging from £5k for the event sponsor down to advertising in the programme and on-screen on the night – ranging from £250 to £1000 depending on size and placement/regularity of the ads.
There will be a raffle and charity auction on the night, so we are looking for prizes and auction items for both of those. We may also look at naming tables and allowing some advertising on tables if there is an appetite for that.
So far we are on to our 3rd table for the troops.
As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.
⭐️👏☘️👍🍾
That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is
If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on each for the nominated charity as well! The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.
Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?
Good morning friends and a Big Happy Friday to everyone who posts or lurks on this fine site.
Interesting, Mahe. Some sort of equalisation is certainly required. The main pot of money that UEFA allocate to the 3 club competitions is already split into categories, the main 2 being TV money and then prizes for each clubs performance (qualifying, so much forw a win, a draw, progression through the rounds, etc). Evening out the TV part would be a step in the right direction.
I’II have 1,000,000, 000. Shares in Celtic FC please, is there a bulk discount?
Aye your in dreamland right enough Mahe, but consider the above about shares, because for the support to have the voice you dream about, if the support had a share-buying scheme that dream might become the new reality. Its the only way that it might work. At one time it was reported that Celtic worldwide had 9 million supporters, think about that, you don’t need £millions to purchase shares.
It was the same haunted look last night at the Midden, shoulders hunched dead eyes staring looking down at the green, green grass of home as they slumped to defeat once again, it was superb entertainment, almost as good as watching Ken Dodd without the hair. Gilligan eyes were moist but his tongue was dry, googly eyed and sweaty hands, I love their pain, it kinda softened the blow a wee bit after getting gubbed by the gerainiams. Donner Kebab in Blitzcreig!
Lets stand tall, raise our eyes heaven bound and think of our glorious beginnings at what they did for our ancestors, feeding the poor, doing their bit to ease the pain of our ancestors hunger.
We salute and pay tribute to Brother Walfrid and Brother Dorotheus, his Dundonian assistant
Henry Currie, yes a good and able assistant who hardly gets a mention in Celtics beginnings.
“The Faith Of Our Fathers.”
UEFA can and will do nothing.
They allowed the wealthy to engineer a self serving system on their watch.
Does anyone think these wealthy individuals and companies who manufactured a wealth fund would allow UEFA to reduce their income?
UEFA already know they effed up as the genie has left the bottle so all they are doing is milking it before the Superleague arrives.
Fans have the ultimate power in abandoning the new product but unlikely in short term.
Hopefully in the long term interest will wane and fans will return to parochial roots where genuine competition thrived.
After Bosman in 1995 and hopefully Diarra today there must be some legal avenue to take on the euro coefficient top 5 TV model within the EU restriction of trade. It’s the embodiment of restriction of trade. A club who never qualifies for UEFA competition would need to be brave enough to take it on
The Greeks, that time, had a German manager.
But so was Bertie Vogts.
At the players meeting after the Dortmund game, no management, just the players ( tell me they had one ), they’ve got to talk to each other about what happened, why and to learn from those own goals.
They themselves have to recognise and learn that in given situations in a game they HAVE to do this and not that.
Maeda’s two as prime examples.

just caught up on your Diarra guardian articles from yesterday.
Interesting day ahead and if the end result is that players can walk out of contracts at anytime then it woukd be an absolute disaster for the likes of us and the ‘pathway’ teams who rely on such a model.
Morning all,
Looking forward to seeing a few old and possibly new friends at the Horseshoe Bar today.
I hear a plane has just arrived at Glasgow Airport from America, stuffed full of cash.
Inq’s Pocket money for today 😁😁😁😁😁😁
The UEFA suits will not bite the hand that feeds them, and it no doubt feeds them very very well.
Celtic are where we are by an accident of geography, less than 100 miles from the richest league in Europe. Close, but no cigar for a disappointed Dermot Desmond. The Celtic suits have settled for domestic domination and they just accept periodic skelpings when up against proper footballers.
The most brutal skelpings have been on Rodger’s watch, but they have also been on DD’s and Lawwell’s watch. An inconvenient truth for the PLC happy clappers.
How do we even attempt to bridge the quality gap ? This week young guys called Adeyemi, Fofana, and Cherki have torn apart the Glasgow pair. Do Dortmund and Lyon regard those players as projects ? Where, and how, did they develop such exquisite skills at such a young age.
Celtic appear to have pretty much given up on producing genuine talent in-house. If a business cannot produce the required quality in-house it will out source.
A bit of creative thinking is required by our suits but there is no evidence to suggest they have a creative bone in their collective bodies.
As the Proclaimers may have sung, McStay no more, Nicholas no more.
Hi Mahe,
It’s a positive that you are considering the dilemma that has faced Celtic for years.
That’s why attempts have been made by Celtic at UEFA level and the ECA to level the playing field via FSR and the new Leagues set-up.
Will it be enough?
Time will tell.
The Real Madrid’s don’t want to play us or clubs of our size. Players are being asked to play too many games. There’s another World Club format League kicking off in the US next year. Dortmund have already qualified.
Rangers were liquidated trying to compete financially.
Leicester under Brendan registered losses of £90m two years in a row. They failed to make the top 4 and didn’t make the CL riches.
Costs went through the roof. Signings more often than not failed to deliver. The ones that did succeed often sat out their contracts and walked away on a Bosmans.
No criticism of Leicester. They had a go. Were taken to task for financial impropriety. (Too much debt).. Were relegated and ironically got off without further punishment on a technicality.
Did you notice that Celtic’s Head of Marketing left to join Villa? He’s a Kilwinning man, I gather.
I’ve a notion that we are hitting a ceiling in terms of marketing revenue.
Why?
Demographics.
20% of Scots are aged over 65.
That’s over one million souls.
Over the next 20 years there is set to be in increase of 20% in over 65 years and a corresponding decrease of 20% in under 21 years.
We are an aging support.
This is particularly acute in countries on the periphery of Europe.
Within Scotland this even more true outside of the Central Belt.
That will put even more pressure on provincial clubs. That impacts on y
Litigation aside.
The football landscape will change.
It’s not just football that’s changing. The demographic is changing very quickly.
Celtic need to be at the forefront of the sweeping changes.
The Equity Funds/Sovereign Wealth funds will decide. They own the broadcasters, corporations and governments.
It’s a pity that the public spend their lives with the eyes glued to the rear view mirror. The decision makers have already moved on.
I think Lyon restructured about €350m worth of debt last year. What is the value of their squad?
Now that’s ironic.
Happy Days.
Managed to get a ticket for Aberdeen game. First in a long time.
Even better, my wife has 2 tickets for Keane gig in Manchester on same day. I don’t have to go now and my daughter is happy to replace me. ✅✅
Now planning to meet leggy.
Does anyone know if he likes to go for a beer before a game.
The Gombeen Man @ 10:20
No quite sure where you are coming from re the age demographic.
Celtic currently have approx 54,000 season card holders. The remaining tickets for the Aberdeen game went on general sale less that an hour ago. Seats sold in a matter of minutes. The majority of games are sold out. There remains a demand to watch Celtic. Demand currently exceeds supply.
Thirty years ago I thought Fergus was a tad too ambitious with his plans for 60,000 seats. Would we fill those seats for games versus Killie, St Johnstone, etc ? I could not have been more wrong and Fergus could not have been more right.
Build it and they will come. And we have. And bought the merch, pies, and bovril. Family generations will continue to populate Celtic Park.
Let’s turn all your reasons to be fearful into reasons to be optimistic. The Celtic suits can do much more to improve every aspect of the club. The fans pay them well enough after all.

I’ve suggested before that one way to even up the distribution of UEFA income is to increase the Solidarity Payments that clubs receive who did not achieve a place in Europe and decrease the payments to participating clubs.
UEFA actually took a step in that direction when new format set up but it has to go further to have a real impact.
Human nature is the real barrier to that happening as in failing to accept that as a species each individual is interdependent on others, never mind as football supporters.
However the very act of suggesting that some form of income redistribution could be the beginning of real change but I reckon it is more likely that there will be a European League of multiple divisions.

EU top court says Fifa player transfer rules breach law .
Reuters – The transfer rules of world soccer’s governing body Fifa go against European Union laws, the EU’s top court said in a ruling on a high-profile case linked to former France player Lassana Diarra on Friday, citing the bloc’s free movement principles.
“The rules in question are such as to impede the free movement of professional footballers wishing to develop their activity by going to work for a new club,” said the Luxembourg-based Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).
Fifa’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) say a player who terminates a contract before its term “without just cause” is liable to pay compensation to the club, and where the player joins a new club they will be joint and severally liable for payment of compensation
===
Could this be the new Bosman and will it have an impact on Celtic’s transfer policies – buy cheap sell high as it seems players could be able to simply rip up a contract and leave any time now🤔 Where’s the SC legal team (MIT over to you)
Interesting lead Mahe,
Many are despondent and who can blame them!?
For me though, there is perspective.
We had a poor first half against Falkirk but survived and won well by upping the ante
We had a poor first half against Dortmund BVB and were blown away
We can talk about the cracks in our current set-up and they become fissures against teams of Dortmund’s class yet we know all about them
Here’s the plus side, we are addressing these cracks.
Our recruitment is getting better, our first team squad is getting more selective, our coaching and conditioning is getting better, our tactical nouse and technical ability is getting better.
We need to improve year on year, and while we were attached to the old firm model that was never going to happen
It appears to me that the HighHeidyins have now understood this.
Using R2ngers as a baseline is either going to bite us, as it did in 2020, or hold us back, as it has for a decade
Sevco will turn it around of course but when?
So abandoning the OF model, remodelling the recruitment model and investing money in the Club is all good news
The incremental improvements in the first team by very good management and application will mean that we will be a consistent UCL playoff side with all the benefits that brings
Sure Tuesday was disappointing but we are getting better all the time and soon such drubbings will be a thing of the past as Celtic take their rightful place as a top twenty European Club once again.

Court judgement — the spectre of the non compete clause looms large.
Top end employment contracts have 6 or 12 month non compete provisions in the small print.
And then you have the notice period angle to play out.
Consequently lots of water to pass underneath that particular bridge.
CB @ 12.10
Our recruitment is not getting better.
We would have been a totally different animal if we had found a VW Mk2 or a VVD Mk2 this summer.
We didn’t and we weren’t even close to finding them.
That is our big issue — two former loans was a big effort.
Suggests that we are not firing on all cylinders.
Where was the new LB?
Last minute loan?
Surely not the plan.
Exec bandwidth / backroom capabilities — nowhere near good enough.
Madmitch @ 12:16 pm,
Well agreed, there is much room for improvement, Brendan Rodger’s is already on record as saying that
However, it is getting better
We need to look at who we bought in 2023 and who we have bought in 2024
Kuhn
Scmicheal
Sinisalo
Bernardo
Idah
Trusty
Engels
McCowan
Now, we know we needed more players than that, instead of the top quality right back we wanted we got Valle on loan
Yet to me that suggests the Manager wasn’t happy with the players the recruitment team offered him
In 2023 he had to take players regardless
We also moved out a heck of a lot of first team squad that wasn’t required, sometimes getting quite a bit of cash for them
In fact, in 2024 we have taken in much more in transfers in than spent on transfers out and managed to save on salaries
If we continue this in January we will just get better.
Hail Hail
OGLACH 1201
It is a disaster for clubs like ours who depend on a player trading model. Clubs like Brighton too. The big boys,of course, will be like sharks with the scent of blood, circling any and all the rising talent, and signing them for free.
I’ve already written the outline for an article on the subject, which I intend to post next week. I’ll need to delve further into things before finalising it though.
One thing I will say is that the original finding against Diarra was a disgrace, and FIFA/UEFA should have seen this coming as a result. In the UK,a company making significant unilateral alterations to employee contracts of employment is seen as a cut and dried base for a Constructive Dismissal claim. And that’s what Lokomotiv Moscow did. If this is upheld at the next stage,we can forget about any pretence of competition in European club football.
Oglach
I mentioned that case on here previously I believe, and have been waiting for the decision. I will have a look at what was saidand let you know what I think.
Need to keep in mind the particulars of tht case, some of which I dont recall off the top of my head. But what I do recall is tht Diadora was fired by Lokomotiv Moscow because he refused to train. His club already has a judgment against him. Timing of that could be importnt, but that is part of what I dont recall. He tried to sign for a new club, but the transfer required FIFA to give him an international clearance certificate, which FIFA refused to do as its rules said Diarra and/or the club wishing to sign him, first had to pay outstanding amounts owing.
From a Quick Look, it may be that that provision was all that was changed, but I need to find out more.
If so, given the very specific fact situation, the decision it may not be as broadly applicable, or importnt, as Bosman, but when I get some time to go through it, I’ll post my thoughts.
Jimbo,
Thanks for the reply.
What they call the Replacement Rate is 2.1 kids per woman.
(One child to replace each parent. The 0.1 equates to a child who won’t have kids).
Anything below 2.1 means that the population is going to age and over time remain static or decrease.
In Scotland the rate we are producing kids is 1.33 per woman and falling.
That means the population is getting older and there’s less youngsters.
This fact affects everyone.
We are going to have plenty of older supporters (while we are around) but fewer youngsters. Things like marketing income must have a ceiling in Scotland.
We are not a global brand to the extent of Barca olMan Utd, or Liverpool. Our support in places like Ireland, US, Canada is falling/getting older too.
Our demographic is changing. In time immigration seems to be the chosen path to provide the taxes etc to look after healthcare/pensions.
This is going to hit provincial locations harder. The young will gather around the cities.
With the change in demographics (similar in all developed countries) the development of European leagues is really important for us.
I hear little about taxing the 1% that monopolises just under 50% of global wealth, right enough.
Superbru Round 6 update
I’m back- I had the joy of watching us beat Bratislava in the company of Boston csc and the despair of watching us get gubbed by Dortmund in the company of Montreal csc, both fine groups of dedicated and informed Celtic fans who are a credit to our great club.
I arrived back last night and I need to quickly update this round before tomorrow’s fixture deadline.
Our top 3 performers in Round 6 were:-
1st- Ayrshire Tim- 14.5 pts (our 2nd highest weekly total so far)
2nd- The Token Tim- 12 pts (seemed surprised to have done well- think his wife must be doing the predicting this season)
3rd= Big Archie, Hopeful Hoops, Gaz & Greenpinata- all on 10.5 pts
Special mention to McCaff who correctly predicted 6:0 to the Celtic (mind you he has predicted in the limited range of 4:0 to 7:0 for Celtic in all 7 Superbru rounds and came close twice before) and really should get more than 3 points for an exact score that involves a number higher than 3 goals for any team.
Not doing quite so well in Round 6 were:-
65th= BMCUWP, An Tearmann, Tooting Tim & jmccormick- 2.5 pts
69th- Hot Smoked- 2pts
70th- maccargo- 1 pt and this week’s wooden spoon
That leaves the overall position as:-
1= Gaz & The Token Tim (or his missus)- 54 pts
3rd- Leggy (perennial bridesmaid) – 52 pts
4th= Cosy Corner Bhoy & celtic Mac- 50 pts
Now that we’ve caught up- it’s getting close to the deadline of 3 pm tomorrow for Round 7 where we have 3 SPFL kick offs at 3 pm before we get to see the Bhoys at 12 noon on Sunday in Dingwall. Let’s see what figure McCaff might go to this week and which opposition team might be predicted to score against us? (or does that require a trip to the confessional box?)
So the repercussions of todays job could at the highest end be that players can leave contracts at anytime with no compensation to the current employer, like any other job really.
An utter disaster for likes of us.
Player recruitment model — where are we and why is that the plan?
3 basic alternatives on this.
Player investment model — we have a budget for player investment every season.
An amount that we want to spend to bring in new players with a view to improving the squad.
This above and beyond what we bring in as players leave.
Player trading model — we spend what we bring in.
Target — Sell dear / mature and buy young and promising.
Also use the cash coming in to fill gaps in the team.
Player selling model — we spend less than amount we get from transfers out.
The question with the player selling model is what will be done with the surplus it generates?
Loads of teams work this model in the face of poor crowds and crumbling infrastructure.
Eg — NU selling Peter Beardsley three days after their Main Stand roof burned down.
So they have an excuse — sell or starve Legionnaire as PL / DD once said to NL.
In the case of the club — just what are we using the player trading surplus for?
Why are we hoarding cash in the bank when e have holes in the squad you can see from space?
Lack of exec competency / business bandwidth looms large.
As does a golf game far far away.
Board excuse mongers — if they put the same effort into improving the club as they do into explaining our business failures then we really would be going places.
The Great Replacement Theory / G40 edition — excuse phasers set to malky right enough.
Thank heavens the old board never had this level of support in 1993/94.
Noticed Chairbhoy mention McCowan.
Just a thought. With his background is he someone who would have experience of how to play without the ball for extended periods and a proper understanding of how to set up to defend from midfield.
H3 @ 1.27
Football as in all / most areas of business employment activities involves contracts.
No matter what the court said today we live in a world of employment contracts with notice periods and non compete clauses.
These can be enforced and so the game moves onto compensation to stop these clauses being enforced aka some form of transfer payment to make things happen that bit quicker.
Bigger issue with players on the up — why move to a smaller wage?
Consequently coach and horses through our current business model.
Players might sit out 6 / 12 months of football if it doubles / trebles their wage.
Does their original team make them do their time or do they take cash to ease things along?
EU angle comes into play — normal service everywhere outside the EU?
Or will the UN get involved — stamps issue hurt us with the Chagos Islands …
Bosman changed things but not by much.
Contract slavery was never a good look — DU / JC at their worst.
Every passing game — LMcC looking like a replacement for CMcG.
From what little I have read about the contract decision it appears to affect very little
FIFA are confident it applies to only two small sections, or clauses even, so shouts of ‘’ The baw’s burst ‘’ appear over optimistic .

I just got into the office and had a quick look for the decision. Doesnt seem to be posted on the ECJ website yet. If I find it, I will try to post a link on here.
AFTERNOON ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA not been on lately wee Joan has been poorly, she has rallied round today, so before i get into my thoughts on the dortmund game, it was Joans 66th birthday yesterday and JIMS 71 first ,so to you Jim happy birthday🎂🍾 now ive read on here some absolute pish its ok we will get better in Europe bring on atalanta, FFS we are a SPL team ok a very good one gone are the days when I was a nipper supporting celtic we had good teams in scotland dundee hearts aberdeen who had players that went on to the english league’s, you young guys wont remember them, alex young everton, billy bremner leeds, ron yeats and ian st john liverpool , dave mckay spurs charlie cooke chelsea, denis law man utd, how many scots are in the english league’s now, so down to the nitty gritty, celtic are a very big fish in a very small pond, did you watch that game against dortmund it could easily have been 10-1, we need to try and get into the small euro leagues where we wont get embarrassed at parkhead note I said parkhead, anyway rant over,,hope you all are well👍
Big Packy
A massive happy birthday to wee Joan. Hope she’s feeling better soon and keeping you on your toes.
Happy birthday also to Jim, if he’s looking in.
Big Packy
If you’re looking for a fun night out in Ardrossan…..
HI sol ,wee joan says you are a gentleman and a scholar👍😎😎 went to ardrossan once it was closed 😎😎hope you are well sol👍
From BR today :
“So what do we do? Sit back, have 15 percent of the ball and probably lose 3-0, 4-0? Or do you play how you play but know that the mistakes, you’ve got to sharpen your teeth in and you’ve got to be better in, you’ve got to make quicker movements to close space. And all those things are a learning process.
“I’d much rather do that and go down with my own vision than by someone who’s saying that he’s never coached a game in their life or played third or done whatever. So I respect the opinion but I don’t listen to it and never have.”

I would ask Brendan to read the room.
Losing 3-0, 4-0, is a heavy defeat. Once we get to the 5, 6, and 7’s it becomes an embarrassing humiliation. That is not in the interest of anyone, least of all the most important people of all, the Celtic support.
JIMDOM, how are you pal, agree with much of your post, brendan has not had much success in europe, lets hope it changes anytime soon, remember my late dad saying that to me in 1965, another true story.LOL 😆 😎👍
at the end of the day we are a great SPL team ,but in europe we get found out ,now sunday we could beat ross county 7-1 and some celtic supporters ,note I said some, would be calling come on atalanta, we need to get in the real world, not in MIKE IN TORONTOS WORLD where he thinks celtic are the bees knees 😎😎😎
Not surprised, but not what I wanted to hear

Dont think this new ruling will have near the same impact as Bosman. But will try to post more later.
on a somewhat sort of related theme (player movement sort of) …. did you know?
…. we all know that both Jack Grealish and Declan Rice played for Ireland up until under 21, but then made the switch to Englad as seniors…
but did you also know that Conor Gallagher and Jude Bellingham could have played for Ireland. Bellingham’s granny was Irish, and there are photos of him as a youth in an Ireland jersey ….
and both recently got Irish passports … but to allow them to play for Atletico and Real Madrid respectively. The Spanish league allows a maximum of 5 non-EU players per team. So by getting their Irish passports, their teams were able to avoid using one of their non-EU spots..
Irelnd could have been lining up with a midfiled of Bellingham, Gallagher, Grealish and Rice? Would have been great to see….
CCV and Taylor might be fit after international break

It would appear that we have another manager trying to apply shock therapy to a SPFL focused squad that reverts to full Bronski mode just as we needed them to step up.
RD too away their chips.
AP went tonto after the RM collapse.
Now BR is trying to rub their noses in it.
We aren’t helping ourselves with our recruitment.
Desperately need some real world / CL experience in the outfield.
U21’s / ECh bench warmers / Div1 PotY — no matter their potential they need leadership.
Surely we are learning lessons and looking for experience in Jan and July?
Bambi on ice / rabbits in the headlamps is not a good look.
The lack of fight with CCV in the team is telling.
Big Packy
Whilst waiting for a bus in Glasgow on way home from a Horseshoe Bar meeting with Iniquitous, Leggy and co, a Number 61bus turned up.
The destination window was digital and whilst Tolcross was top destination, below it was Celtic Park.
That will please Big Packy I thought, perhaps he has written to First Bus.
However no sooner had the thought formed in my head than Celtic Park changed to Parkhead.
So get on to First Bus and put them straight but don’t mention Vodvijina.
BR is stealing patter from us …
Two soft penalties — check.
OG / huge deflection — check.
Two great strikes — check.
Hopefully he gets up to speed with the need for experience./ growth agenda / Main Stand rebuild.
