Cash is King
I’m glad Bobby covered that Diarra case rather myself, because I haven’t a Scooby what to make of the judgement or it’s wider implications. It’s clear to anyone though, there is a lot of money on the line if a player just hand in their notice and leave for free, and I just cannot this being allowed because it would cause mayhem and probably put clubs out business.
For clubs already struggling, this is the last thing they need. Any club struggling would bite their hand off for addition revenue. When one considers Scottish clubs in particular, the biggest percentage of attendees per capita in Europe, one would imagine that,,,
Given there’s an immediate and instant tax resource on hand, steps would be taken to ensure this continues. And infact a smart mind might ask how we increase this continual supply of government funds? Reasonable enough question, with a simple answer.
The Alcohol at football proposal recently emerged again. A proposal that would undoubtedly increase most clubs revenue via the profits to be made, it would also have helped clubs like ICT survive, and while the government is gaining tax from the prematch/after game pints and shorts, it’s certainly not gaining as much tax from football grounds all across the nation if the fans in the ground first of all can’t have a few pints during the game and secondly wait for the outside fish and chips van rather than an overpriced pie. Times can be considered hard with your pound/Euro/dollar going a lot less these days, but a few at the game, even at an inflated pricetag and served in plastic, would be popular and probably help any said grounds atmosphere.
BUT, he said no. This bloke.

His reasoning,,,Scotlands relationship with alcohol. He was opting not to help cement that relationship by saying no pints at football. Not no pints at mads gatherings, just football gatherings. Rugby, Festivals, WWE, Boxing, Concerts,,,all other large gatherings bar a football game may have a ‘liquor license’ but not the national sport? As he joins The Tartan Army with a pre match ritual for many. Did he get out of hand that night? No, and there-in lies the hypocrisy.
If our Scottish cousins, kin, and friends cannot handle their bevvy at the match then what the f@#k are you doing drinking with them? Either call them out there and then IF they step out of line or STFU. How come there was only 40 arrests at Transmit within a crowd of 120k if ‘a problem with alcohol’ is true?
I’m well aware of the Kerrydale Bar that doesn’t technically stretch into the inner stadium confines, but offers a pre-game libation at hefty prices, and I’m 200 percent positive all tax due the echequer through any purchase will be paid by our financially diligent PLC. Those ‘pints’ caused nothing troublesome, but rather helped club revenue. As I type ICT are undergoing some serious financial troubles, one cannot tell me extra revenue via a new revenue stream wouldn’t aid their fight for existence.
Now of course the First Minister would have heard the arguments for and against, I mean which politician turns down extra revenue to look successful? It’s clear, to me at least, that the Police had a major say in this decision. And it’s clear, to me at least, that there’s a ‘problem child’ in that regard,,you don’t need me to spell out which set of supporters that is. Angry, self-entitled, volatile,,,the Españolification of Glasgow is not going down well with others, which brings the coppers problems on occasion. So they say no, then Mac Swinney says no. And everybody turns a blind eye, for when was the last time Celtic fans, Aberdeen fans, ICT fans ‘went on the rampage?’. But everybody losses out (apart from the cops) because of one clubs inability to behave correctly says the guy who will swig with his fellow Tartan Army fans prematch? Eff off. I don’t care that much about my refreshments during that 90 odd minutes, but to throw this charge upon the nation as a whole whilst granted other licenses left, right, and center, is just a bit rich sorry. And it shouldn’t be left to one man alone, but rather a commission of much varied viewpoints.

Emdy fancy a great night out? Just got this from a good friend,Frank, who many of you will already know either in person or as VFR.
Not sure if you know, but my wife Jacky came out of retirement a couple of years ago to run St Margaret’s adoption agency, the only Catholic adoption agency left in the UK. She now has it back on its feet after some significant issues.
I have been roped in as an Ambassador for the charity and one area I am looking at is fundraising. My big ticket item at the moment is a dinner dance we are running in the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 22nd November at 7:30. This is the first of what we intend to be an annual event to coincide with the Feast Day of St Margaret of Scotland, our Patron Saint (November 16th).
So as you can imagine, I have the begging bowl out! I am contacting like-minded people to see if they are willing to take a table for the event (or just some tickets). Individual tickets are £50 with the tables at £500. We are also looking for sponsorship for the event, ranging from £5k for the event sponsor down to advertising in the programme and on-screen on the night – ranging from £250 to £1000 depending on size and placement/regularity of the ads.
There will be a raffle and charity auction on the night, so we are looking for prizes and auction items for both of those. We may also look at naming tables and allowing some advertising on tables if there is an appetite for that.
So far we are on to our 3rd table for the troops.

Chairbhoy,
Thanks for the response.
It seems that you have been captivated by the considerable business acumen of the very swiftly departed James Bisgrove.
Yes, James of the slow boat fae China fame.
It was the esteemed James and fellow Ibrox guru, Stewart Robertson that talked about lost opportunities in the face of the current Sky deal.
These two men are key culprits in the financial basket case that is Sevco today.
There’s a vulnerability among a number of Celtic supporters, they seem to buy every bit of froth or leak that comes out of Ibrox.
That’s a shame.
The real work is often done by those who don’t court publicity or personal plaudits. They get on with the business of developing the structure of the game and it’s financial sustainability.
Even the publication the Rangers Review wasn’t entirely convinced by Mr Bisgrove’s posturing.
“Oh, everyone had a chance, so don’t be misled,” Doncaster said. “Everyone had a chance to come forward, it was clearly no secret that we were out in the market. We were talking to the key players in the market, and ultimately the deal that has come forward is the deal that has been endorsed by clubs.
“There has been a proper process. We sat around this table with the cinch Premiership clubs, all 12 sat here and talked about the process that had been gone through in terms of market testing and talking to the various people who might be interested in Scottish football.
“So, it’s a complete fallacy to suggest there has been no process. There has been a full process whereby we had a very experienced rights advisor who used to work for the Premier League in England leading the discussions, and ultimately this is the deal that emerged.”
Rangers Review
– Here’s a free tip.
If a Sevco executive talks or leaks, always check the detail.
Never take anything at face value.
Twenty minutes and a read of Viaplay’s accounts a couple of years ago would have saved you hours of wasted time…
‘Viaplay announced on Thursday that they will lay off a quarter of its staff to cut costs with huge losses imminent.
“We will exit Poland, Baltics, UK, US and Canada to re-focus on the Nordics and Netherlands,” said CEO Jorgen Madsen Lindemann. “(We will) exit in the form of disposal, partnering or winding down the businesses.
“We have initiated a strategic review for international markets, including the UK, where we will seek optimal solutions for our operations, including partnerships,” a spokesperson added.”
BBC
On the subject of wasted time.
Further discourse on this topic is really a waste of the most
valuable commodity.
– Time.
Have a great day.
Further thoughts,
Maybe James Bisgrove was recruited by MI5 and sent to Saudi to reek havoc to the Saudi financial system?
Financial ineptitude on the scale of an Ibrox executive could really set those Saudi Sovereign Wealth funds back.
If the IMF arrive in Saudi we’ll know that Ibrox has done it’s thing.
Do your thing James
Fitbaw’s a great thing, don’t you think,
it sparks furious debate even about the demon drink.
But, you know, when its wet and gusty,
and my bones are tired and rusty,
I look back with pride,
too that remarkable side……….
67, in the heat of Lisbon, man those were the days……
He’s gone, gone fishing,
He’s standing up to his neck in the flowing water,
Casting his fly upon the the dark waters of Wales,
Wonder what he might catch, apart from the flu,
I went fishing once, in a rowing boat during the miners strike,
Caught the cold,
But in the winter of 1969 (69) oh dear, I cast my net,
Far and wide and captured my bride,
And there she was- Faithful Through And Through.
Gawn yersel hen, yiv played a blinder.
In Wales fishing for whales, I mean ffs…
Gone fishing, dum de dum diddlee dum.
Cast your net far and wide and enjoy

The Gombeen Man @ 8:31 am,
Apologies don’t have time to respond today, suffice to say you are preaching to the converted re:Financial ineptitude of Scottish football Executives.
Most contributors to this fine site have been embroiled in the subject matter, some since around the time Martin O’Neil told us about the slow lane.

MAHE
Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this one. Whenever I’ve had a pint at an overseas match,I always put it on the ground between my feet. But not everyone does.
As an example,I went over to Bristol to watch us beat the Huns 5-1 in 2016. One of them refused to listen to wiser counsel and put his pint on the table between sips. Inevitably,we ended up wearing it when we scored.
Another one of the lads thought it was only fair to share, and threw his own pint all over the original offender. Then told him to get the effin’ round in! (And that was letting him off lightly…)
And yes,I can all too easily imagine that happening multiple times a game throughout a packed stadium.

Eggchasing is your friend in all of this.
NT games — small scale boost to the finances.
GLA / EDI games — transformational to the point that the SRU brought EDI back in house on the back of the ability to sell alcohol at their games and the revenue it generated.
Consequently a no brainer to help Scottish football deliver a better product across the board.
However football is not like the other sports / events mentioned.
Football now offers a platform to attention seeking groups with a personal agenda.
A personal agenda to do what they like no matter the views of any older / wiser majority.
Ultra displays are just a Euro version of US high school cheerleading.
More pyro because of the poorer aesthetics standards involved.
Without drink too many large groups of organised / structured ego trippers trying to throw off the shackles of parental civilised norms so what would happen if drink was available in the stadium?
Probably not a lot as they will still queue up to use the cubicles in the toilets.
Snorting stuff up your nose is just middle income glue sniffing.
The trials and tribulations of mass affluence.
Not good.
My thoughts — sell alcohol in the stadiums.
Spill issue — we already allow soft drinks in and the only issue is empty cups at corners.
Drink throwing — self policing / instant lessons in maturity through physical means …
Zoomer / rocket factor — not an issue / they won’t be able to get to the bar.
It it all ends in carnage then football will have questions to answer.
Not society in general.
So Bevvy a go-go.

Come on Folks,.

‘Football now offers a platform to attention seeking groups with a personal agenda.’

No exactly a new development.
With Celtic it started in 1888 when some bead rattling Paddy had the bright idea of using football to help feed the poor.
Even longer ago, 1887.
EL @ 1.05
Fair point but times have changed.
So attention seeking individuals using football to further their own agenda …
1888 edition — the hungry were the stars of the show not the servers.
1888 edition — 100% of the resources involved ended up on a plate.
2024 edition — 1% of the resources involved ended up on a plate?
2024 edition — more is spent on gear / pyro / sticky backed plastic than food for the poor.
Bit of a change in the dynamics involved / outcomes being sought.
Plus BW did not get into fights with a pensioner darts team wearing monogrammed jumpers.
I blame the parents — as I rummage through Jr’s sweatshirt collection …
Bevvy at the fitba — It should be allowed.
If it crashes and burns then we will need to deal with it.
P/head angle — £1 donation to the foundation for every pint served.
You could call it the Poor peoples pound.
Inflation at 10K percent !?!

You might know the collector.
Totally agree Mahe.
A beer in a plastic cup, before and after the match. But not in 21st century Scotland. Don’t really know why Celtic are not a bit more vocal on this. Perhaps they agree with the Scot Gov ?
Was in London last month with youngest son. Got tickets for Spurs v Brentford through the Tottenham seat exchange scheme. Pricey at £65 each but the matchday experience is on a different level. The billion quid stadium is a fabulous sporting arena. Food courts, live bands, and, of course, beer in a plastic cup. Thousands in the stadium well over an hour before kick off. Away fans equally well catered for. ( best not to miss kick off if you’re a Brentford fan, 23 second they had to wait to open the scoring).
It’s not just the additional revenue that clubs would benefit from, anything that encourages fans to enjoy a better pre match experience should also be developed. Bands bashing out some tunes, in the concourses beneath the seats, would be a great addition to the matchday vibe.
Beer in a plastic cup, consumed in a crowded, draughty concrete concourse?
Not for me, Clive.
There’s a novelty value to it on away trips when you don’t know the lie of the land, or have any favourite Celtic minded pubs nearby, other than that all seems a bit naff and desperate.
And I’m not sure that any additional tax revenue from alcohol sales at football grounds, which goes to the UK treasury, features much in the SNP government’s thinking. Furthermore while Plod no doubt have some influence on the issue I suspect the public health officials will have more of a say.
Afternoon all! Apologies for not playing the Nap…have had a heid-busting day with work/email/printing issues!
Re the bevvy at the games…hot dogs and cerveza in the Nou Camp! Cannae whack it. Beer and Bratwurst in Bavaria…bring it on!
A warm pint and a volcanic pie on a cauld night at Parkheid… yer havin’ a laugh ain’t ya!
We all know who’s to blame for the current situation – a certain George McCluskey! Had he not scored that extra time heidie causing those poor Huns to express their disappointment we might not even be having this discussion!
Aw well, welcome to Greatest Wee Country in the 21st Century.
The politicians and the polis have a lot to answer for!
Public health angle — as in any credibility left — in 21st century Nat-Land ?!?
Attempt at a joke in very bad taste …
I wonder what would get the greenlight — pun unavoidable — first at P/head:
Public injection rooms vs beer at the game?
Auldheid – Yes, I have heard about John and his wonderful collection, its outstanding, you wouldn’t need to take a book into his house, just read the walls and no need to decorate ever again. Actually mines is the reverse of John’s collection, its only on the bedroom walls and no-where else. What a brilliant bloke and his collection speaks volumes about his passion for Celtic, maybe we should get wed? 😉
.
Public health officials would be consulted about any plan to have alcohol sales at football matches, they would object and the Scottish government would not want to go against their advice.
Can’t say I’d blame them.
Craig76
Thanks, Craig. I’ll get right on that. The Celtic Star is a cracking site to order books from. The books are top quality.

EL @ 3.31
Interesting stuff — politicos vs civil servants …
The whole situation would come across as very patronising.
The middle class egg chasers / concert goers get their swally.
And the working class football fans are told to bolt / forget it.
Plus the public health clique are not covering themselves in glory regarding health outcomes all across their patch.
Basically public health ain’t working and more of the same is not what we need.
We treat far too many like children and act surprised when they throw their toys out the prams that we put them in.
If we really can’t handle drink at the football then what does that say about us.
To me that is a societal issue / problem and not a football one.
HI MAGUA you are a breath of fresh air, I know you have been praying for Joan as have lots of others, the good news is she is eating proper food again and keeping it down, never underestimate the power of prayer, dont know how many deckets of the rosary ive said lately, but just seeing Joan eating again it was all worthwhile, hope you and yours are well buddy,,another true story👍
Viaplay will be showing the Scotland game on their youtube, free

That’s good news. I hope and pray that Joan’s health continues to improve.
Hail Hail.
Afternoon
I know it is discrimination to allow concertgoers and the followers of every other sport to have an alcoholic drink inside the venue/ground whilst watching their event but forbid football supporters to do likewise and that I am against discrimination in principal. But in practise I am not bothered by it. The folk who really want to get booze into a stadium smuggle it in anyway and have done so for 43 years. I don’t deny that there have been winter afternoons when a nip from a flask would have gone down a treat ( and have occasionally done so) but were I asked for a list of thimgs that would make going to a game better then being able to have a pint of tepid lager in a plastic cup would be low on my leet.

Drinking at the fitba?
I’ve been attending games regularly at Celtic Park since August 1980. In that time I’ve only seen serious disorder twice. Both were caused by what we now call Police Scotland!
The first was the Janefield St riot. I got caught up in that with my wee brother who is disabled and in a wheelchair – pinned against the wall of the Jungle. It was both terrifying and completely unjustifiable behaviour by scumbags on horseback.
The second was the most recent fuck up by PS when the huns came calling for the first time after the allocation cuts. PS did not have a fucking clue how to police the event and got it disastrously wrong.
I’m still amazed – and grateful – that there was no loss of life at either event.
I often stand outside the turnstyles at Janefield St on match day waiting to meet my son. By 2.30 many of those rocking up have clearly had a wee drink and then closer to KO you get the ones who have considerably participated.
I’ve yet to see anything of concern from anyone having had a fair scoop that would lead me to accept that we cannot have alcohol at the stadium.
Well, apart from THAT guys aim at the Rapid Vienna game back in the day!
