Top Two expand gap
I’ve gotta say, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I thought it was a great advert for Scottish football, it had nearly everything an observer could ask for, and now the dust has settled on the weekends fixtures its clear the top 2 slots in the SPL is a 3 horse race.
The team selection was no real surprise, the atmosphere was great, weather not bad and surface looking fine,,ref blows his whistle and we’re off. They storm at us straight from kick-off, surely a strategy, it takes one minute to get the ball and we storm at them. Two minutes in, I knew the encounter would be fascinating.
It took about ten minutes (gotta stop those slow starts Brendan) but we grabbed a hold of the game and started playing. This was especially hard given the nature of the game, their shape was good plus they constantly fouled, by we began turning the screw.
It delivered two fine goals, similar in that both were created by fine through balls, one converted directly and one laid off to a runner.
When the second went in I genuinely wondered if this was about to become the romp that has been bubbling under the surface since late June.
Part of that reasoning was Arne Engels. I previously mentioned he was top of my player watchlist, and straight from the off he was at it. The second minute saw him burst forward with a dangerous run, he later hit the crossbar in audacious fashion, most of his corners were fine (one might speculate the others notably Trusty should have scored),,,so given Arne was on point up until halftime and we were two goals up with Forrest, McCowan, Idah, Yang, and Bernardo to come on, I believed we were in for a spectacle.
It was indeed that, but a most unexpected one.
When a game changes at halftime, I simply must give credit to the opposition manager for provoking the reaction. Saturdays fightback was not only impressive, but it convinced me that team can achieve second place, Sundays results being the case in point. Especially if strengthened in January for the hardly spent any of the Mioski Dosh. It also convinced me that Thelin is worthy of being on our next manager shortlist, and that the SPL has a new player in town who deserves respect.
The domestic scene just became a lot more interesting with his recruitment.
In the second half, for about 30 minutes, they essentially did to us exactly what we had done to them, two great through balls leading to two goals. They were the better team during that spell, bringing the game to us despite being away from home. I was seriously impressed, but a combination of substitutes and pride saw Celtic decide to go for the killer goal with about 15 minutes left plus injury time. We threw every bar the kitchen sink at them,,it was a true siege when the last seconds of added on time saw a goal-line clearance that was surely a handball given the protagonists body angle.
The decision goes upstairs to VAR, it’s surely only a matter of time before the last gasp penalty is awarded and I’m already wondering who shall step up and be the hero given Bernardo had already replaced the anonymous in the second half Engels on set piece duty.
The ref starts to raise his hand, I’m thinking he’s surely pointing at the spot here, nope. He raises it straight up and blows signaling the games over and it’s a point apiece.
I’d love to know what happened, because he surely should have signalled VAR said no and time is up, if that was the case. The camera angles are poor to say the least, can the richest club in the land not afford better? Better should be a requirement, not an option, in these modern high stakes days.
And that was that, we won the first half 2 zip, they won the second half likewise. Sunday saw Kilmarnock beat last year’s runners up to ensure both sides extended their lead at the top and the table makes for interesting reading despite our good start to the season. We all long for a strong SPL, to force Celtic to stay on their toes,,Im delighted to report that’s slowly happening. This weekends results showed the evidence, more notables being Hearts new manager inspiring his team to put 4 past a decent St. Mirren side plus both Dundee sides won showing they belong in the division.
The SPL isn’t a stroll, and long may that continue.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is…
If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on each for the nominated charity as well! The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.
Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?
*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #12 CELTIC 2 ABERDEEN 2 (HATATE, KYOGO)*
Good evening, friends.
A 3.00pm Saturday home game involving 2 teams with perfect records after 7 games; never happened before!. Mild temperatures for mid October and the sun splitting the sky. What could possibly go wrong? Well, the 20 minutes between 4.10pm – 4.30pm rose to that challenge!
The opening exchanges indicated that Aberdeen were here to make a go of it, playing with 3 up front and trying to keep the game moving quickly but without really troubling our back line.
The first real excitement came after 12 minutes when the Dons keeper made a bit of a mess of clearing his lines. Engels from well out on the left managed to curl a powered shot towards goal only to find his effort striking the bar. Yip, he just didn’t get the right engle!
10 minutes later and we opened the scoring. Engels’ forward pass into space initially looked as if it had been hit too hard. But Kyogo turned on the burners, chased it down and then laid a fine cross field pass onto his onrushing countryman and Hatate dispatched it beautifully into the net.
4 minutes later and Celtic doubled their lead. Quick feet from McGregor saw us work the ball down the left. The pass into the box should have been cleared by the defender but he sheepishly presented it straight to Reo. The resultant shot was blocked but Kyogo reacted quickest to put Celtic 2 up and seemingly in easy street.
Half time saw most folk acknowledging that Aberdeen hadn’t really created any chances and that one more goal should seal the points. Unfortunately, the next 3 times that the ball entered the net it was into Kaspar’s goal. On 49 minutes Aberdeen exploited our high line with Sokler winning the neck and neck race with Scales to get Aberdeen back into the game. 10 minutes later a very slack pass by the rather subdued Maeda gifted Aberdeen a chance and this time the deflected shot saw the Dons level. And on 70 minutes, our worst fears were realised when a stramash in the box saw the players in red go wild, thinking As I did) that they had taken a 3-2 lead. Fortunately, and quite correctly, the goal was disallowed due to a handball by the scorer.
That decision brought a roar of encouragement from the whole stadium and from then on Celtic had most of the possession. Our reluctance to shoot from outside the box infuriated me although we still contrived to squander 2 or 3 decent chances to retake the lead. The 10 minutes of stoppage time was welcome, but it was all a bit huff and puff from Celtic by then and ultimately we had to settle for a share of the points.
So ultimately it was a weekend where the gap at the top remained the same, 12 goals. But at least we put further daylight between us and the 3rd placed team.
We have now played 12 games this season, winning 10, drawing 1 and losing 1. We have scored 38 and conceded 14 (domestically it’s 32-6 and in Europe it’s 6-8).
A bit of a drop in voting numbers this weekend (only the Dortmund was lower) but, as always, a big thank you to the 63 who took time to vote.
The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.
Schmeichel: 0
Johnston: 13
Trusty*: 4
Scales*: 47
Valle: 23
McGregor*: 12
Engels: 1
Hatate: 32
Kuhn: 7
Kyogo: 25
Maeda: 1
Forrest: 1
Bernardo: 6
Idah: 0
McCowan: 17
And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Aberdeen are –
Scales – 5 points
Hatate – 4 points
Kyogo – 3 points
Valle – 2 points
McCowan – 1 point
And the overall positions after 12 games played are –
23 points – Kuhn
22 points – Scales
20 points – McGregor
19 points – Hatate and Maeda
15 points – Bernardo
12 points – Engels
8 points – Kyogo
7 points – O’Riley and Valle
6 points – Johnston A
5 points – Schmeichel and Taylor
4 points – Carter-Vickers and McCowan
3 points – Forrest and Idah
1 point – Yang
0 points – Holm, Johnston M., Nawrocki, Palma, Ralston, Trusty, Turley, Welsh
We now have another tough looking Champions League tie as we travel to Italy to face Atalanta on Wednesday evening, kick off 5.45pm. 3 more sleeps till I reposition the couch!
Hail Hail!

Our defence — we might need to better understand the game.
Defence as in fire prevention vs fire fighting?
LS looks good when we are fire fighting.
All action / excitement / high energy.
Fire prevention needs the MF.
But fire fighting means that we are either playing badly as a team or a wee bit out of our depth.
LS with his energy / pace / cocker spaniel defending looks good when there is lots to do.
Having the defence doing a lot of work means that we are under pressure.
So as above — either the opposition is good or we are playing poorly.
Defence — we need more fire prevention and that means the MF in control rather than the defence in crisis mode far too much.
Yesterday LS gave up their second goal.
The striker who he was marking could see his shirt number.
Defensive howler 101 and they made us pay for that lapse.
Also winning the SPFL — Best dressed man in Cov vibe all to often.

Let’s pretend for a moment you’re a Tim, ok? Cool!
I would be compelled to ask you …
What pleasure do you actually get from following Celtic??
Considering you spend every day of your life downplaying the club’s achievements while never giving the players, or the team, a single bit if credit for anything.
In all the years I’ve been reading your ..ahem, stuff (I’m trying hard to be polite 😉), I have NEVER once seen you celebrate a Celtic victory, or give the club any credit for anything.
Dontcha think that is a tad strange? I mean, considering this is a CELTIC site!
You are the architect of your own downfall 👍,
Don’t think this means I’ve fallen out of love with you though 💚 Just an observation.
Mahe,
The reaction to us dropping out first points of the season has been way ott.
It was also nice to see our fans give credit to Aberdeen dispite the disappointment 👍
I’m glad Aberdeen are making it more interesting.
B A D 6.49
Agreed. The clamour for a domestic challenge seems to descend into over the top self examination when the challenger has the temerity to take the game to us.
Hopefully Aberdeen continue to push us – wins in their next two games and they will be firmly established as contenders, until the weight of expectation/ a testing winter schedule/ squad depth tests their mettle.
Another difficult game on Nov 2nd to relish.
Exactly what is needed.
As for the Huns, their decline is enjoyable to watch and there will be much more pain for them to process when their financials are eventually released. Revenue reduction with its FSR implications and debt increasing to levels which must be close to unsustainable.
Cost cutting the inevitable order of the day. Their current product could be as good as it gets for them.
Perfect storm looming.
A three horse race Mahe?
Do you really think Dundee Utd can challenge us and the sheep.
Thought the game was excellent. Don’t get me wrong we should never be throwing away a 2 goal lead at home in spfl but credit to the sheep. Great result for Scottish football and if we are honest for us as it will keep us on our toes.
However I really fear for us on Wednesday.
Mahe
Watching the game afterwards on CTV — surprised at how well we started the second half.
However the first good piece of play that the Sheep managed to find we collapsed.
The fear descended and the rest is two points dropped.
It was a good pass but a player with LS’s pace should have had the situation under control.
Poorly positioned he wasn’t decisive enough / had the correct body shape to cut out the pass.
A bit of indecision / missed half stride and both the ball and the attacker were beyond him.
Bigger issue was the lack of cover from AV — experienced LB would have offered cover.
GT in this situation would have been worse.
Fine margins in all of this — not a regular occurrence in the SPL.
Unfortunately the CL is different.
The defence needs to improves its training without the ball.
Shape as second nature not an afterthought.
Citeh working on this is a work of art.
Funny to see the Bully Wee gene in full flow.
It is what happens when you cannot rely on your forefathers to help you understand the football on show at P/head.
Not good / not good at all.
No wonder they self medicate on music.
HHH
Watched the Killie v Huns game yesterday.
Killie had a first half goal ruled out by a dodgy linesman who was quick with flag for one team and a VAR confirmation.
Was a very close call and even with the squiggly lines it was debatable.
Had that been the Huns scoring the goal would have stood.
The authorities are well aware of the Huns predicament so any decision that favours them will be given.
They are truly mid table dross elevated by cheating officialdom and their supporters in mssm!
@8.04
Says the man who spends every day of his life trolling a wee football site 😂😂
Seek help my man 👍
Just saying,
Totally agree.
As for the huns? Just a figure of fun to us now ..an irrelevance.
Harry / Harry / Harry …
For me it will always be Harry Hood.
For others it is a fish as in Haddock.
The last second penalty. If it happened at the other end you can bet there would have been a 5 minute forensic analysis of the incident by VAR. It’s was another dodgy decision by officials in a season that’s been full of them and we’re only 8 games in.
“This article is really informative and well-written!”
Good summary of the game Mahe, and from what I saw of the game after a tiring 6 hour drive home from Wales, it was entertaining, albeit the scoreline, did put a sort of dampener on it.
Never seen the huns score till later on last night, so at least one weekend bonus.
In their 11 year existence, they have had more managers than trophies, and have gone from being our rivals, to our entertainment.

You seemed so chipper on Saturday ..some would say buoyant ..what happened??
Oh that’s right, Sunday happened 😉

Morning all,
Here’s a wee photo from Grace’s on Saturday before the journey to Celtic Park.
Iniquitous 1V is sitting, having just received oxygen and recovering from buying a round.
Frodshambhoy, is standing left, contemplating ( F … This for a carry on, where’s the nearest Wetherspoons)
I’m enjoying the music, although a tad loud, listening to the musician blasting oot the rebs 💚💚💚
A great day out and credit to both teams for an entertaining watch. Hope the Dandys keep up the chase.
Enjoy the day everyone.
Me, I’m off to get the old stitches out of my hand ✋

Barca v Sevilla game last night the commentator mentioned that the lack of challenge from the domestic opposition was a problem for Barca as it didn’t prepare them for the better teams they face in the Champions League.
Scary thought.

Iniquitous IV – if you’re looking in, it was a pleasure and an honour to meet you yesterday.
——————————————
Jobo – Now you have me seriously questioning your judgment.🤔🤣
The feeling was mutual mate. There is a special joy to putting a face to a blogger’s name, and in the past year, over 2 trips, I have met quite a few from Sentinel Celts and from CQN. And as I fully expected, all have been stellar. (Well, with the possible exception of LEGGY
😂😅🤣). It was great to meet FRODSHAMSBHOY for the first time, and also AULDHEID, who I have corresponded with sporadically for 12 years but passed each other like ships in the night each time we visited sunny Scotia.

Totally outrageous libel. I will consult Mike in Toronto immediately, and there may be considerable damages ensuing. The truth of the matter was that I was stunned to my core with a combination of LEGGY buying a round, the physical paralyzing cacophonous bedlam adjacent to a Grace’s audio speaker, and the sight of a young blonde lady with a bosom Dolly Parton would be proud of straining to get out of her dress.
The trifecta was too much for an old man.

That’s a cracking t-shirt that FRODSHAMBHOY is wearing. I tend not to wear Celtic gear when I’m in Kilwinning-not that anyone would say much, they know fine who I support-but I take great pleasure stuff which screams UFB without the actual badge.
A Panathanaikos green and white number with a shamrock on the badge being a particular favourite.

AFTERNOON ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA hey frodshambhoy you didn’t wear that t- shirt when you went to the pub with me, keeping it for special occasion s were you, thats ok buddy next time we meet ill have ma rainjurs tap oan 😎👍😎😎
talking of rainjurs taps, did you know magua was in the same class as me at school and he was the only one who wore a rainjurs tammy and scarff to school, no celtic taps in those days, I tried to make him see sense but when he opened his duffel bag and pictures of king billy fell out I knew it was a lost cause😎😎😎😎
I suppose one sign of a competitive league is that there is competition at both the top and the bottom of the league. We certainly have that currently.
I would not like to bet on who will finish bottom, but would be more confident on predicting the champions.
Hibs are now in lots of trouble..a rookie manager, a meddling owner, poor recruitment. All have conspired to send them into a tail spin that will be difficult to correct.
Ross County have been playing well, particularly against us, but they helped StJ out by collapsing at the weekend.
Hearts were always going to improve, irrespective of who they got as a replacement for Naismith.
Celtic should win the league because they have a deeper squad than any other team. As for Sevco, it will depend upon whether Clemente has lost the dressing room or not. A good result in Europe could change it all.
Steaua Bucharest currently sit fifth in their league but have an unbeaten run of five games. Neither defence nor attack appear to be outstanding but recent form is on the up. An away victory over PAOK is noteworthy.
If Clemente can motivate his team, they should get a result. We may see contrasting fortunes in Europe for the Glasgow teams, or not.

My son is doing an experiment where he has to wear a hun tap and see how people react to him. So far he’s been punched and verbally abused. God knows what will happen when he leaves our house. 😂😂
REbus
Recently, Sevco star keeper went public with criticism of Clement’s system after a loss. After yesterday’s loss, Clement responded by publicly throwing both Butland and the young right under the bus for the loss.
I would say he has lost the dressing room already.
A recent study by PPRI, an American think tank on religion and politics, says 1 in 5 Republicans believe that if Trump is not declared the victor of November’s election, he should simply disregard the results, and seize power regardless.
Terrifying how quickly people seem to have lost (i) confidence in public institutions, and (ii) any semblance of common sense.
Just read what MON has been saying.
We don’t need a strong huns. Talk as if he’s one of the board.
He should just STFU.
St. Tams
Strange that MON has been ubiquitous of late. Him and Souness…. hhmmm…
Much as I agree with you in principle, in that Celtic shouldnt have to rely upon the OF, in reality a decade ago, Celtic was at a cross-roads and had to decide if they wanted to try to strike out on their own, and forge a European presence, or whether they would jump into the Zombies’ grave and continue the century old love affair.
We know which path they chose. So, as they are now looking increasingly likely to be on the outside looking in when the new Euro Super league is formed, they do probably need the OF / bigot buck. Sad but true.
MIT
I here what your saying.
Personally, I’d be happy if we never had to play them again.
HI SOL how you keeping buddy, was at the festival park this morning, thought id call round and say hello, guess what as usual your doorbell is not working😎😎👍

You are a scoundrel guv…and no mistake. 😁 💚 to Joan.

That was a belter.
HI MAGUA glad you seen the funny side of it😎😎❤
Lots of talk by zombies about wanting Kevin Muscat to replace Clement. Think they may have missed the boat.
Muscat was anxious to take the Zombie job this summer before they hired Clement. He is now doing very well at Shanghai, who are running away with the Chinese league. Shangha not long ago paid 40 million to Chelsea for Oscar, who is also on 400,000 per week! So, they have something the zombies dont … money. If Muscat takes them to the title, I suspect that Shanghai will offer him so much money that he wont be going anywhere.
Big Packy
As always. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
There’s 8 smiley faces. One for every Celtic goal in the 7-1 game…and one for big Billy’s goal v Vojvodina.

A wee discussion earlier on a WhatsApp chat regarding old Glasgow pubs.
Well, we were travelling by car to an ” Old Firm” game back in the day, and had to go to the Morven, Balornock to pick up tickets.
Before arrival our driver said, ” No scarves boys it’s a 50/50 pub.
Left our scarfs in the car, and when we opened the door to the pub, They were swinging from the Chandeliers, all with Celtic scarfs and the rebs on full blast !!!
A quick look around the Bar, and the women are playing bingo, with the balls, green white ang gold.
50/50 my arse 🍀
Great pub, but I’ll tell the second part of the story later on.
It’s a cracker and sums up old Glasgow pubs 👍
To be continued……….

How you doing pal? Always enjoy reading your posts about Joan and the pack. And was really pleased to see your brother from anohter mother, JiT, posting recently.
As you say, American politics are a strange beast. And these days, seem to be getting stranger .
Most these days think of Democrats as nothern, and Republicans as southern (and often racist). But remember … Lincoln was a Republican…and many slave -owners/plantation owners in the south were Democrats ….until Truman (a Democrat) integrated the military in 1948, many of the most violently racist southerners remained members of the Democratic party. After the start of intergration, many of he southern democrats began to rebel against their own party, and by the time Kennedy/Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act in 1964, many of the southern ‘Dixiecrats’ (as the southern, white, racist Democrats were called) jumped ship and joined the Republicans … and for the last 60 years, we have sort of lumped northern, liberal and Democrat together, while we think of Republican, as southern, white and, lets say, not liberal
But those bonds are being tested in modern politics …
Historically, the Jewish vote was largely Liberal in Canada and Democratic in America … but in recent years, you now have a large part of the Jewish lobby moving to Conservative parties, as they see it more closely aligned with Israel, or at least opposed to Islam (which is seen to be favoured by the Liberals and Democrats).
another interesting factor is the rise in what is known as Eschatological Christianity … a belief that Jesus cant return until Jerusalem is reunited under Jewish rule. So, many of these southern republicans (many of whom are slightly right of Genghis Khan and historically have been no friend to Jews or Blacks) are now championing Israel in its battles. Now whether this was first a theological issue (want to see the return of Jesus) and became political (many Republicans had financial ties to middle east oil, and Israel was always an important ally to the West), or the other way ’round isn’t something I have looked into (although I would like to, once I retire and have some time) ….
but why anyone other than a billionaire – let alone a poor person and/or a black person – would vote for Trump , even I cant begin to try to explain that one! Pretty sure that, even in a slow week for him, Trump breaks at least 7 of the 10 Commandments …. yet we have Bible bashers voting for a convicted rapist/serial adulterer and one and off against pro-choice supporter?! WTF?!
There is something at play that does require some serious thought …
I’m thinking of retiring soon, so may actually get round to writing a few books …I have one that I intended to be my doctoral thesis … but turned down an invite to do my doctoral work at the Gregorian in Rome, and went to law school instead …. if I do indeed leave law, I may finally get round to Rome … 35 years later! But better late than never! …
Ok, back to the story ….
Me and my pal needed a piss and went to the toilet.
In comes an older gentleman, roughly 5 foot nine, bald head.
“All right boys’, was his initial opening gambit.
“Yip” ok I replied.
“Nice to meet you lads, any trouble” ?
Strange request but our reply ” No very quiet here’
” Well any trouble, give us a shout, and I’ll put a fucking hatchet over their heed”
“And by the way, I’m Hammy the Hatchet”
I thought” No problem Mr H ” I’ll bear that in mind.
Went back out to our table and relayed the story.
“Ahh for Fuck sake !!! He’s no oot now” !!!!!!
Seemingly Mr H, had blown up a rival pub a few years back and got a long prison sentence. But…. He’s out !!!!
Anyway 5 mins later, said individual comes over to the table, asks if we’re going to the game, wished us all the best, “Hope Celtic win” he says, but….. ” Any trouble, remember I’m here and they’ll get a fucking hatchet over their heed”.
We left with a strange feeling, I canny see us coming back here after the game for a couple of pints 🤔🤔🤔

‘another interesting factor is the rise in what is known as Eschatological Christianity … a belief that Jesus cant return until Jerusalem is reunited under Jewish rule.’
###
The next step in that narrative is that the Jews have the opportunity to convert to Christianity and be saved and those who refuse to convert get slaughtered.
So I can see some attraction in that to an anti Semite. One way or another they’re getting rid of the Jews.
It does seem odd though that Zionist Jews play along with it.
There again Zionism is a perverse doctrine that drains its adherents of their reason and humanity.
Mike please write that book 😎❤️ hope you are well 👍
