We write our own story

I’m used to typing the SPHell rather than SPL, all too often the top flight of the national sport has lowered itself from sporting conquests alone to a throwback of historical grievances or clan loyalty. The influx of foreign capital is thankfully sowing the way for a brighter game, although the transformation can’t come soon enough for many. However Im glad to report tonight’s fixtures offer the opportunity of that transformation speeding up.

2 games, 4 teams. Sounds straightforward but it’s not as simple as just 6 points on offer. The Pittodrie clash is a 6 pointer on the night, while at Parkhead (sorry Big Packy that’s my choice) the chance to continue remaining top presents itself. As a matter of fact the chance to put daylight between ourselves and the rest exists, as does the chance for the current top two to pull away from the rest. Therein lies the problem, in many different ways.

Firstly, the Whistlers won’t wish their beloved club to miss out on that second placed slot.
Secondly, nor will Hampden lest the biggest games of the season rotate from the Old Firm to the New Firm, which they shall view damaging to ‘the product’ thus the bottom line, although I would strongly contest that point of view.
Thirdly, those in charge at Ibrox really need second place after another terrible set of accounts.
And finally, as intimated, the foreigners expect a return on investment, and cheating them out of that very thing might, just might, have lasting repercussions.
Let’s face it, if the ref does Aberdeen out of three points tonight, the Yankee investors don’t have much legal recourse, but such a scenario would send a message to future prospective investors from the USA.

It’s funny but a big night in the SPL has quite a few Americans interested. Dundee have American investors, we know Aberdeen does also. R2ngers are in talks with a Yank billionaire says the rags whilst our beloved club has tickled the interest of another very rich USA passport holder.
He’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but the exposure Snoop Dog would bring Stateside is massive, and now he’s piped up and publicly declared an interest in a piece of the Celtic pie. A clever board would and should explore this option.
Aye, many eyes in the USA shall be watching with more than a passing interest in mind,,that in itself could help influence that fact that a fair game is expected. If a fair game, both Aberdeen and Celtic should win tonight given recent form. I dare say Thelin’s result on the night shall also affect his January transfer budget, if still 2nd they might push the boat out then.

As for The Hoops surely Luke is the first outfield player on the teamsheet for a ‘here’s a look at what you could have won’ performance.
I believe Brendan will start Cameron with the aim of having him matchfit for Tuesdays clash, especially with it being at home where hes more comfortable.
Valle or Greg is a big call, I get the feeling either would play well if selected, but I think now Valle is upto speed, give him a nice home-tie to showcase and he will do just that.
Bringing in Tony Ralston to rest AJ might be a sensible option.

As for the midfield and attack, I’m pretty much spoilt for choice to the extent that any of them will do. The mainstays have proven themselves worthy, the fringe players continue to intrigue, the Kyogo or Idah for starting striker dual is heating up nicely, and one can imagine everyone pulling out all the stops in order to begin the semi final and RB Leipzig game.
The fact someone’s dropping points elsewhere is an added sweetener, but Im expecting the Bhoys to put on a show under the floodlights.
Others can have their battle but we write our own story.
Up The Hoops!

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.

⭐️👏☘️👍🍾

That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of

Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.

Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.

Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

Awe Naw/PPB,
I feel reassured now that they’ll be putting out financial fires for a few years yet and we should be able to take advantage of that. I would rather they’d been wiped out in 2012 but whilst they remain in any form then beating them is what we need to do and what I enjoy.
As for tonight, I’m hoping we’ll carry on from Sunday. I’d play Trusty and CCV. Scales will have cause to feel miffed but a club our size can’t spend £6m on a centre half and bench him because the other guy is doing well. That’s doing well at his level, the new guy is meant to be a level up so let’s get a partnership in place.

Good morning, friends and a Big Happy Midweek Matchday to you all.
6 home wins across the SPL card tonight would be most pleasing. That’d put Celtic and Aberdeen on 28, Sevco on 19 and Dundee Utd on 18.
As for team selection we have 3 games in 6 days across 3 different competitions. On paper, tonight’s is the easiest of the 3 suggesting that this may be the one to consider changes. But not wholesale – I still expect at least 14 of our usual 16 performers to play at some stage.
We’ll see…..

Excellent article,MAHE. Tonight is a biggie, despite our manager’s observation that we are only interested in our own results.

He is correct, inasmuch that we will be looking for the three points. But if Aberdeen can overcome the huns (Beaton and Robertson and eleven others) then it gives them a nine point cushion, same as us hopefully. Though that will also see them subjected to increased MIBbery to come!

As an aside,re the accounts released yesterday,we shouldn’t forget how close we came to blowing last season’s title. Given the disparity between CL and EL income,a large chunk of their debts and the disparity in finances between us and them would have been wiped out at a stroke.

That is why it is increasingly vital that we don’t let up,keep winning the title, and continue to progress domestically and in Europe. I’ve never been one for The Glorious Balance Sheet, discredited as it was over the Lawwell years when it took precedence over football affairs, but there is a balance.

I think we are getting closer to that balance, but to maintain our advantage we need to continually improve on and off the pitch. Who knows,we may one day get back to the early goal of the Plc supporting the football operation, rather than the other way round as was the case for far too long.

Scales would be more than ‘miffed’ if dropped to give Trusty a game on the left. Personally i believe a players place in the starting 11 should be based on merit not how much they cost, jeez we have had some expensive donkeys in the past Scheidt, Barakas, Ajeti etc did they warrant being played and the in form guy dropped just because they cost a bit? If Trusty is supposed to be a ‘level’ up he hasn’t shown much evidence of this to date with the exception of one game, albeit he has only had limited opportunities allegedly playing on the wrong side of central defense. How much do you think Celtic would want for Scales now if he were to be sold i’d guess in the region of £5 – 6 million. If Trusty is a better central defender than big Liam i’m sure that this will be noted by Brendan and the coaching staff in training and he will be given an opportunity to displace Scales.

Re their accounts the scale of losses is the highest since their inception, the exceptional Covid year aside.
Losses are also on an upward trajectory and this current year won’t look too clever as they already start from a negative £12m or so after Clement’s spending spree in the summer.

Never forget how-why we lost the points we did in the later part of last season, and how they were able to get close to our points tally (Wasn’t there some sort of world record penalty awards for them), as it seemed they never went a week where big Clementaefuck wasn’t getting help from the men in black!

Ffs, their right back was their top goal scorer last year, simply because of the number of penalties they were awarded! How many teams could you name who have a top scorer playing at full-back?

Anyway, given the latest news, it looks like c@nts like Aitken and Beaton might need to pull on a Sevco strip to help out!

The financial disparity between Celtic and R2ngers is considerable. Celtic earn more in bank interest than Ibrox has cash in the bank.

If being litigation free is the most positive spin that can be spun on a dreadful set of red numbers, then God help you. But there is a 79 year old whisky tycoon ready to invest. Don’t leave it too late Billy Walker, because, well, you’re not getting any younger. And, apparently, the American bloke already in the building is poised to chuck more cash at them. All this will keep Keith Jackson very busy working away on his wealth radar abacus.

Human nature being what it is, those PLC suits who will populate the top table at next month’s Celtic AGM, may find it difficult to resist the temptation to gloat. Giving it the smug why are we so good narrative. As Roy Keane might say, they are only doing their jobs. Jobs they get very well paid to do.

It’s our job to gloat, it’s the suits remit to focus on Celtic and Celtic alone. The here, the now, and the next 12 months. Those next 12 months will include European qualifiers, our record in those is not the best. If the big bucks reside in the Champions League, then keep the eye fully strained winning the SPFL small bucks.

Aberdeen’s start to the league campaign has made the early part of the season a bit more interesting than usual. No bad thing.

Glad I’m not the only one with a suspicious nature! As soon as I read “Billionaire to invest at Ibrox” I wondered where I’d heard that before. It seems he isn’t the CEO at Pamplona either, that post being held by the founder,Krastner.

As for his billionaire status,I can’t comment. He was previously a director and board member at a smaller company which was bought out by Pamplona for $4.5m,but it seems unlikely that he made a billion bucks from that.

Prior to that,he was with a realtor (estate agency) so really I’m none the wiser on his financial status.

Both Scales and Trusty to start tonight’s game against Dundee.

They are the players in form therefore entitled to retain their places in the stating eleven.

It’s up to CCV to dislodge one of them the noo.

There’s no call for CCV to be parachuted straight into the first team, right away.

Haven’t decided yet if I’ll watch the Celtic game,or the Sheep/zombie game.

Regarding which result would suit Celtic best – I try to deal with the here and now and right now the Sheep are a bigger threat.

Re trying Trusty and CCV together for the first time,as suggested by ATHINGOFBEAUTY,I’m in total agreement.

For starters,it will give Scales a breather-he has been virtually ever present now for fourteen months. Secondly,we need to see how partnerships work, and also give them time to develop.

There’s no point in signing a player who only ever gets a game as injury cover, and out of position at that. It isn’t fair on the player, who isn’t getting the opportunity to show everyone what he can do.

I think our fifth-highest transfer deserves a chance to play to his best. And I also think our most consistent player in the last fourteen months deserves the assurance that he is still first choice, and deservedly so.

If the league title this season becomes a straight fight between Celtic and Aberdeen the referees will switch focus from helping sevco to helping Aberdeen.
When it was big Billy against ferguson the cheating was ramped up. Hugh Kevin’s on Radio Clyde was previewing a game against Aberdeen. This is not verbatim but he said something along the lines of – it’s remarkable how the outcome of these games always hinges on controversial refereeing decisions. This is only a half truth. What he should have said it’s remarkable how the outcome of these games always hinges on controversial refereeing decisions and all of these decisions are going Aberdeen’s way.
We will continue to be cheated and Aberdeen will get every advantage.

hope you are sitting down for this one …had been reported that Sevco sold 5 players recently (Lammers, Cantwell, Wright, Goodson and McCrorie) for considerable fees. For example, Lammers and Goldson fees were each reported as 2.5 million. Now, however, the zombies finances show only $800,000 received for all five. Apparently, any fees received were actually used to pay out the players’ contracts, so the zombies made little or nothing on these sales.

Giving it the smug why are we so good narrative. As Roy Keane might say, they are only doing their jobs. Jobs they get very well paid to do.
==========
They may gloat at a private meeting on the focus on football to improve finances and
hobbling R2ngers ability to pay players with non football money via FSR, but in public have said in the AGM report to shareholders this on both subjects.

STRATEGY, THE BUSINESS MODEL AND OBJECTIVES

The Group’s objective is to create a world class football club through our strategy and business model for growth focusing on three key areas:

 (i) ) Core Business – football operations with a self-sustaining financial model, relying upon: youth academy; player development; player recruitment; management of the player pool; sports science and performance analysis; AND football success.
(ii) Development of the Celtic Brand – incorporating the Celtic Park Masterplan and the development of international revenues.
(iii) Improvement in the football environment in which Celtic plays – representation within football governance and administration at domestic and European level.

The latter is confirmed in another AGM Report statement re football governance at European Level.

“Secondly, UEFA introduced significant enhancements in financial governance by introducing new Financial Sustainability Regulations to replace the previous Financial Fair Play Regulations.
These are being introduced on a phased basis from summer 2022 and have the effect of introducing more rigorous spending controls and more definitive sanctions in order to create a sustainable future for the European Club environment.
Celtic played a significant role at a strategic and technical level in the development of the new regulations, continuing to demonstrate our strategy of participating and contributing to the future of the game at the highest level.”

I hope that those who disputed Celtic should get any credit for FSR read the foregoing and either accept the basis for the hobbling narrative was sound or base there argument on a more credible view that Shareholders/supporters are being lied to in The AGM Report which is at

Celtic_Annual_Report_2022.pdf.

Further on football taking precedence TGM posted a link

https://youtu.be/jCAVq2wNxvU?si=y_ZhWmqIHVFeR20Z

to a video, 50 secs in, from the 2023 AGM where the change in emphasis was clearly stated and performances on the park since suggest the support were being told the truth.

The latest AGM report basically repeats what supporters and shareholders were told in 2023 which remains the same because there is evidence that Celtic are doing what it said on the 2023 tin.

I totally accept that under the Strategy PL worked under the emphasis on balancing the books affected the quality of players signed under that policy, but I am open minded enough to see that as the circumstances that dictated that policy have changed I am prepared to recognise that the much maligned Board do have the kind of strategical thinking that I became familiar with in my working life and which influences my perception of reality.

Not that I am a Board sychophant/mineshafter/or any of the divisive labels attached to my comments.

I just like to share how I see things either for or against The Board without fear or favour.

R2ngers posted their accounts.

There is a direct connection between their situation and how it affects Celtic for better or worse.

“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer” is a phrase that means to keep your friends close and to keep your enemies as close as you allow them to be. Sun Tzu is often credited with the phrase. It was also featured in the 1974 film The Godfather: Part II

======
Poetic licence I reckon as Celtic Park got mentioned.

Diplomatically I think we can allow both, one official (Celtic Park) the other (Parkhead) to BP yourself and any others under poetic licence. 🙂

Lyrics to Willie Maley song

Willie Maley was his name
He brought some great names to the game
When he was the boss at CELTIC PARK
He taught them how to play football
He made the greatest of them all
Gallacher and Quinn have left their mark.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay
They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay
And most of the football greats
Have past through PARKHEAD’s gates
For to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

In 38 there was a show Glasgow was the place to go
A model of the tower was footballs prize
England sent 4 of the best
They didn’t meet with much success
Cause the trophy ended up in paradise.
nation time was here 53 that was the year
Another 4 from England met there doom
Because the cup is in the PARKHEAD trophy room.
And then in 1957 we faced a guy called Gorgie Nevin

The game is etched on every Celtic fan
Wilson, Mochan and Mc Phail
And Willie Fernie scored as well
As Celtic beat the Rangers 7-1.
So 10 years they had gone and so
To Portugal we had to go, to play the team that Italy
Adore
Celtic went out to attack
They won the big cup and they brought it back
It’s the first time it had been on British shores.
And now a new Millennium we have a brand new stadium
We’re amongst the honours once again
The Celtic fans did proudly sing
Larsson is the King of Kings
And he joins the list of famous Celtic men!
’til whenever!
