Magnificent!
It seems Brendan Rodgers reads the blog, either that or he just decided to make me look like a sage, for Saturdays game played out exactly like the earlier article laid out.
From the very first whistle we were at it, which pleases me no end because our penchant for a slow start has given others ideas of a chink in the armour.
Attack, attack, attack was the order of the day and boy did we ever. Our speed was frightening, cutting through the Dons at rapid pace with off-the-ball runners causing chaos particularly the two first choice wingers of Kuhn and Maeda although Kyogo also deserves a mention for his work. When this team is firing on all cylinders no one in Scotland and some in Europe just cannot live with us, and so it proved with an absolute avalanche of goals, five from the forward line and one from central defense, including a hat-trick to cement Maeda as Man Of The Match. That’s a bit unfair really because everyone played their part on the day.
It worked out perfectly on the day with the starters winning the game, and then plenty of subs to get some legs rested ahead of Tuesdays big match against Ze Germans.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why we were so fired up. First of all it’s the trophy we dropped last year, and secondly the opposition deserved a doing. I take it all back, the New Firm isn’t better than the Old Firm, they are a bunch of thuggish pricks pardon my French, and I include their manager. And their supporters for the game delaying smoke plus endearing themselves to hard men football. Their physical approach even drove the normally placid Brendan to get extra animated and confront Thelin, he even got a yellow card, aye they thoroughly deserved that tanking.
Selection wise, it’s harsh to drop Scales who had been our most consistent player for a year now, but we learnt Trusty is pacier, plus he’s taller, so that’s him in the starting lineup from now until tired or injured, or both!
Valle has surely cemented the leftback position as his own, and I expect the club to sanction his purchase come seasons end as he’s made of the right stuff and will want to stay at a big club moving in the right direction offering good career prospects. Brendan’s learning of the Spanish language might be helping the lad settle, and might help sway the decision to stay. Engels played the furthest ahead of the midfield diamond, the selected trio has a lot of tools in their locker and is more than likely the preferred 3 in the middle. They are a good age, not too young, not too old, energetic yet capable of a goal or a great pass.
The latter sums up Kuhn perfectly, he’s a real diamond, and my prediction to become our record fee upon departure. Maeda succeeds through determination rather than footballing ability alone, the opposite of Mikey Johnson perhaps. He constantly arrives in the box and occasionally the ball just seems to find him rather than he creates space for himself, Saturday was just one of those right place/right time appearances. I love the fact he’s not a glory hunter, will lay off a chance ala Kuhn, and the fact he doesn’t point to his number on the back making it all about him but rather barely celebrates, plus there’s been zero fuss since he walked in the door. He’s a good man, a humble man, and that usually makes for a good teammate which helps create a good dressing room atmosphere. Something which should never be underestimated. I’d throw those same accolades at young Master Johnson, his signing a new deal would be a lovely early Christmas present.
The Cup itself shall be a lovely post Christmas present. It’s an all Glasgow affair, and more than likely their manager’s lifeline. But he must be careful as failure to emerge victorious alongside remaining third or worse would seal his fate. A late season managerial change probably suits all parties but the Belgian,,new guy doesn’t get the blame for this year, and season tickets get sold out on the promise of next year.
Those of a blue persuasion should know by now that Brendan and Hampden are old pals, that’s his stomping ground, and Celtic will be out to win more than just the moral victory.
Hitting a good side for 6, hitting top form again, just makes Tuesdays clash all the more intriguing. We give a repeat performance and we will take something from it.

*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #16 CELTIC 6 ABERDEEN 0 (CARTER-VICKERS, KYOGO, MAEDA(3), KUHN)*
Good evening, friends.
What’s that old cliché about semi finals rarely being a good footballing spectacle? We are certainly writing our own story.
Once the dust had settled from the pre-match pyro show, the first 20 minutes of the game were engrossing without being spectacular. Celtic having most of the possession but Aberdeen certainly being up for the fight, aided and abetted by referee Clancy.
The tone changed in the 28th minute and in the half hour which followed. A firm, inswinging corner from the impressive Engels saw Carter-Vickers towering above the Dons defence to bullet home our opener. 4 minutes later and we doubled our lead when Maeda nicked the ball in our own half before galloping forward with the ball, outpacing everyone in his path. Brilliant, determined and ultimately calm, Daizen passed across for Kyogo to take a touch and then blast the ball into the Aberdeen net. We continued our onslaught and just 5 minutes later, our best passing move of the first half resulted in Kuhn playing a great number 10 pass, blindsiding the defender and finding Maeda who dispatched the ball into the net.
Despite our 3 goal lead, Brendan was demanding more and unexpectedly found himself the centre of attention after kicking the ball away, falling head over heels in the process. Booked!
The second half saw no let up and just 3 minutes after the restart a fine solo run by Kuhn saw his shot only parried by the Aberdeen goalkeeper into the path of Maeda who scored his second of the afternoon. 10 minutes later and we scored our 5th goal in a blistering half hour spell. Kuhn was rewarded for his overall performance, curling a fine strike into the top corner of the net.
Whilst remaining totally in control, we waited until the 85th minute before completing the rout. In a great display of symmetry we mirrored our first half finish with the best passing move of the game, great link up play – 28 passes without Aberdeen touching the ball – and a tap in from Maeda to complete his hat trick.
In cup games in recent years I’ve noticed that referees tend to have some sympathy when a team has been well beaten. So I wasn’t surprised when Clancy added on a whopping 7 seconds to the 90 before blowing his full time whistle. Correct score bet folk might have been a little miffed although I doubt that there were many who had invested money on a 7 goal victory!
We have now played 16 games this season, winning 13, drawing 2 and losing 1. We have scored 49 and conceded 14 (domestically it’s 43-6 and in Europe it’s 6-8).
A fine turnout from my supporting voters and a big thank you to the 90 who joined in this time around (a new record, just pipping the 88 for the Atalanta game). And a pretty unanimous top 3 this time around. The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.
Schmeichel: 0
Johnston: 1
Carter-Vickers: 7
Trusty: 1
Valle: 9
McGregor: 3
Engels*: 12
Hatate: 64
Kuhn*: 81
Kyogo: 7
Maeda*: 85
Taylor: 0
Scales: 0
Bernardo: 0
Idah: 0
Forrest: 0
And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Aberdeen are –
Maeda – 5 points
Kuhn – 4 points
Hatate – 3 points
Engels – 2 points
Valle – 1 point
And the overall positions after 16 games played are –
27 points – Kuhn
26 points – Scales
24 points – Hatate and Maeda
20 points – Bernardo and McGregor
18 points – Engels
17 points – Johnston A
13 points – Valle
9 points – McCowan
8 points – Kyogo and Schmeichel
7 points – O’Riley and Trusty
5 points – Taylor
4 points – Carter-Vickers
3 points – Forrest and Idah
1 point – Yang
0 points – Holm, Johnston M., Nawrocki, Palma, Ralston, Turley, Welsh
Our third game in 6 days sees us play our 4th game in this season’s Champions league. A home tie against RB Leipzig on Tuesday evening, kick off 8.00pm.

Morning all…it’s a strange narrative that was started on here on Saturday and continues in this morning’s article. The hold up was caused by our fans setting off flares, there must’ve been about 200 red flares lit in the Celtic End just as the game was due to kick off. The guy beside me at the game was wondering how they got them in when everyone was searched at the gates!

So the pool opens at 10am. The same people arrive every day at 9.45 with their towels. One woman places hers on the lounger and sits beside it on the ground until the plastic chain removed. How petty and self centered must you be to carry on like that I ask myself. Not a German voice to be heard anywhere and the nearest most of them have been to a German is watching Bayern on Sky. How some folks live on holiday eh.
Right better get the first beer of the day down the neck. Have a good day.

With both sets of fans probably planning to bring full fat pyro to the final, don’t expect the match to start anywhere near the scheduled time.
MCCAFF
Re the flares, that’s probably my fault. I logged in just before 530,and I saw a huge wall of red flares for just a few seconds before the cameras panned back to the pitch.Being red,I automatically assumed it was the Dons fans. Understandable perhaps, but still very much my mistake.
Added to this was a repeat yesterday.
Now,my sisters and their friends (and thousands of others) were delayed by about fifteen minutes by searches before entry, but they clearly aren’t working.
They need to. These need eradicated from the game for many reasons. Health, fan safety, regulations including the law, ffs. Not to mention our accumulated fines and soon-to-be-escalated UEFA punishments. As “our” flares were placed to form CFC,I think, that suggests they were placed there pre-match. I dunno how,but I have my suspicions. Whatever, they need to be stopped.
When I heard BR post-match referring to not helping the club, not being a real Celtic supporter etc,I thought he was referring to those responsible for the flares. Obviously he was talking about the teamsheet leaks. They’re bad enough, but I genuinely think the flares issue is worse.
And also more difficult to solve.

Whoever is responsible for that pyro display needs a good kick in the arse.
Using red when you’re playing Aberdeen? Seriously. You have to wonder if the GB (assuming it was them) have been compromised.
AFTERNOON ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA AND FRODSHAMBHOY AND SOLKITTS, took wee joan to the hospital at 11 this morning told me to go home at 12 as its a womens ward, her twin sister barbera is with her, think you met her bob at my 70th birthday party, anyway its a waiting game now luv ya all to bits ,used to say that on cqn till someone complained👍
Big Packy
Fingers crossed that all turns out well for you both.
Cheers sol just staring at my phone waiting for it to ring 👍
The CB pairing will be interesting again, CCV just back and not had a lot of minutes, Scales and Trusty outstanding last week……..tough one….
BADA Bing
The defense of yesterday allowed the midfield to have their most complete performance of the season.
When Scales and GT came in our forward distribution became slower and less potent.
I would prefer we kept same starting line up as yesterday.
Big Packy
Good luck, Joan and Packy.🙏
Hi Magua just waiting for news 👍thanks for your concern 🙏❤️
Vote coming up in a few weeks on whether to award the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia, which FIFA seems adamant should happen
In preparation for same, FIFA hired London powerhouse law firm, Clifford Chance, to prepare a report on SA’s human rights record. It now turns out that, at the request of the Saudi Government, CC limited its report to only considering what SA considers a human rights violation, and not what the international community at large considers human rights abuses. Also in preparing its report, CC only spoke with government ministries, and did not consider any information from international organizations, in making its findings.
So basically, CC asked SA ‘do you think you committed any human rights abuses?’, SA said ‘of course not’ and CC said, ‘okay, that’s all we needed to know.’
what a sham.

Reminds me of an old accountant joke. First question at an interview.
“What’s 1 + 1?”
“Whatever you want it to be,sir.”
Or,alternatively, the outcome of the Nimmo Smith “inquiry”.
Mourinho is clearly already looking to leave Fenerbahce, after only joining this offseason. AFter last week saying that he wanted to coach again in England, this week he said the Turkish league “smells bad” in the sense that the league is set up to work against his club. He added that
Fenerbahce weren’t honest with him about this when he signed, and had Fenerbahce told him the truth about how bad the situation was, he would never have gone to Turkey.
Cant see Jose lasting after xmas at this rate.
The annihilation from a sheep perspective

BP,
Get well soon Joan. Let’s hope she gets a good prognosis.
In regard to Saturday, I thought we played very well. I was really confident we would win and told bmcuwp the same. I’d seen the dons at Celtic park and listened to the podcasts that all said their results did not reflect the actual performance. They were due to lose and was just glad it did not happen on the Wednesday night. I was also very pleased to see Hatate have a good game and I think he benefitted from Engles being slightly deeper alongside Calmac. As fan also said, the midfield benefitted from the quick passing of Trusty and to a lesser extent CCV. It meant the dons could not get so close to our players, even to foul them. Different proposition tomorrow night but I think BR will start the same 11.
Finally I’ve been critical of Kyogo so I’m glad he scored and played well. Let’s hope he’s got his mojo back.
BOBBY, MCAFF, ATOB,, this is what this site is all about, you ghuys and ghirls make me proud to be a celtic supporter,,another true story👍👍👍

That really is a disgrace. The jersey, the price, the fact that they even exist.
Picture the disappointment on some fan’s face on Christmas morning. Or the ribbing from their mates if they’re forced to wear it.

Re Mourinho,Fenerbahce’s grievances are hardly a secret in the game. I’d be astounded of forehead if he didn’t know about this prior to being approached. And there’s absolutely no chance of it not being discovered by him and his team during due diligence before deciding on the offer.
In other words,he’s a chancer. Which sadly sums up far too much of his late career.
His time has passed, and he should retire with what is left of his reputation.
