Saturday night at the movies

We’re back with a bang as the old computer managed to throw together an excellent round of fixtures for the weekend. Every single match-up holds a degree of interest and/or intrigue, but the Champions visit to the capital is clearly the pick of the bunch.

We are of course faced with the old traditional timeslot of 7.45 on a Saturday night, I say traditional because only the world famous Leather Belts seem to get the nod, understandable from a scheduling directors viewpoint, and I don’t see much complaints from the Tims which is unsurprising given the very meager number of away tickets issued to supporters. A couple of points on this. If the 500 number is correct and there’s Pyro from that area, no need to call in Sherlock Holmes for the list of suspects, it goes without saying I don’t wish for pyros in the slightest, but given the clubs ‘can’t do anything’ response at the AGM, and the historic animosity between the sides, some idiot might be emboldened. It also goes without saying that our team shall never be playing at home for one of these Saturday night shows, I do believe the club would be absolutely furious at the chance of less matchday attendance hence revenue. So if it’s a Saturday night and Celtic are on the TV, we’re away from home fullstop. Fine by me.
My final point is that the atmosphere should be supercharged with such a timeslot, extra bevvy and probable increases attendance etc.

A supercharged atmosphere generally delivers one (or more) of three things,,a pumped up home team, a full blooded affair as the player get caught up in the crowds emotion, or an angry reaction from the home support when the game isn’t going their way. In respect of the latter, the clash is fortunate timing for their new manager as defeat wouldn’t result in calls to sack him. A St. Stephen’s Day home loss to Hibs would see such calls, but not losing to the Champions and hopefully last 16 of the Champions League quality opponents.

I generally love these games for self sadistic reasons, revelling in silencing the vitriol, or perhaps pure football besting thuggish players, but given their manager is a Tony Bloom pick, one would imagine he wants his charges to actually play a bit, and it’s a decent surface for it. I’m looking forward to see what he is doing that’s different to Naismith, except losing of course.

Team selection should be interesting, and it would be remiss of me not to mention we face the prospect of two brothers playing against each other, handy for the family outing, but not for the dinner table come Sunday.

The first name on the teamsheet this week won’t be the Captain but the contract extension Bhoy himself, a whopping new five year deal for the Canadian whom one cannot help but like. On that front, I’m sure I’m not the only one who now expects Greg to sign similar, the gaffer did hint at it, and it makes sense especially if Valle is actually getting recalled. I’ll say this though, he’s in the last chance saloon to get that pen out, because if Valle is going home in January it’s a certainty another left-back will be signed, and start with the aim of being fully integrated for the CL qualifiers come July, if Greg is leaving. If GT signs up, and the club know Valle won’t be hanging around, it’s more likely he plays most games and gets an understudy rather than a direct rival. A new deal would bring a pay rise, given the choice between the English Championship on similar wages to any new deal plus winning trophies with a global giant that dines well at the top table of European football,,I’m honestly expecting a December announcement he’s put pen to paper.

The manager publicly acknowledged our Japanese contingent felt the strain of so much traveling during the last International break, so it wouldn’t surprise me if one or two were benched to help recuperate. Idah instead of Kyogo looks sensible from where I’m sitting, as does Luke for Reo, although Bernardo instead would be perfectly understandable.
And I’ve gotta mention my bhoy Yang, if Daizen is shattered, give him a shot at revenge at the stadium which saw him unfairly dismissed.

I fully expect to begin today’s fixture in second place given Aberdeen have just had two weeks of tactics and training together, it should be a good game (which I might watch) but I think they will best the Saints,,there’s added incentive to emerge victorious. With Club Brugge visiting Parkhead on Wednesday, there’s enough time in between games to put full effort in tonight by whoever is selected to put full effort into this clash, to do whatever is needed to grab those three Tynecastle points.

My personal player-cam is on Idah tonight, as Bobby pointed out yesterday we are entering a period of hard, non-stop football, and Kyogos starting slot is there for the taking. A couple (or a winner) against the Jambos would go a long way towards sealing the switch.

I’m really looking forward to this, let’s do it Celtic!

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.
⭐️👏☘️👍🍾
That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.
Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

This drive has already raised approaching £2000,so join in. The more, the merrier.
Default payment method seems to be ApplePay,which won’t suit everyone. There is an option on the page to change that to your preferred means.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is…
If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on each for the nominated charity as well!
The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.
Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?

Mahe,
I have no time for our board. Peter Lawwell shutting down a question from Joe McHugh (blogger) about Mark Lawwell and his suitability for his role tells you all you need to know. He is there to make sure the meeting runs as it should, an over seeing role. Instead he directed his lackey Nicholson on what to say. That’s someone with too much power but we knew that anyway and it’s old ground on here. Where I will defend the board is that they had an offer from premier sport to move the kick off time against Aberdeen at home to a night time Saturday and refused as it was too difficult for the home support. They lost £75k from that so let’s give credit where it’s due.
I didn’t see reference in the AGM reports to anyone questioning the board on the amount of cup final tickets kept back for hospitality. I was disappointed with that. It’s my own fault, if I could sort out my invite with the company I bought my shares through I could have went and asked myself. Apathy is what the board rely on and yet again I feed into it. Note to self – must do better!!

Looking forward to tonight’s match, but I reckon a few of our team will suffer during it. It might not be the way their manager wants to play, but Hearts players know only one way to combat us-combat being the operative word!

I’ll try to find a source for the Aberdeen game. Kill a couple of hours before The Main Event.

Huge night ahead, this game is the biggest of the season in every Diet Hun fixture list – they love a visit from Celtic.

It gives them a big night to rhyme off all their anti catholic bile without the media batting an eyelid, because those uppity Fenians from the west bring it on themselves. Just ask Neil Lennon.

You very rarely see a non event in these matches at Swinecastle, Hearts either show up for blood and snotters and kick, punch and spit their way to a result or Celtic beat them , often very comfortably.

Tonight I expect a tough , tough game. I hope the manager does too.

A point on the road won’t be a disaster, keep the unbeaten mindset going. But I think we’ll sneak it. 1-2 .

Re the scheduling,I get that Scotland are playing at Murrayfield in the afternoon, and the two games couldn’t clash. But Sky could easily have played this at lunchtime tomorrow without even a TV shedule clash. They also picked a ridiculous kick-off time on a Sunday just recently, when the Saturday lunchtime slot was free. And I doubt that’s a coincidence.

Although I agree that standing up against a Saturday night kick off v Aberdeen is due some credit I disagree with zhe idea it was for the benefit of support. Today proves the point. Where is the refusal this time around. That decision was to benefit the club and only the club. The “loss” of 75k from tv coverage would be wiped out by the full house given the early kick off. If for example the crowd was down by 5000 people who travel a distance (outside of supporters buses and own cars) it is possible that by each spending 20 pounds on food lottery merch etc that income would be down by 100k. Empty seats on tv is always noted and from the point of publicity on a top of table game looks poor so again the club benefits. Our bord do zero to help the support everything is done to benefit the fatcats.
We all know it and so do they.

Are we certain Scotland Rugby are playing today, Is it not tomorrow about 2pm, hence no chance of the game being on a Sunday at all?

It was either tonight or nothing. God forbid we didn’t just play at 3pm with no TV.

I’m assuming Hearts, as the home team, jumped at the money.

AB67,
Trust me, I am amongst the last to give our board credit. I appreciate your point about the club losing more in revenue than it gains but I doubt many supporters are spending £20 a head at the game. With regard to tonight I think it’s the home club that decides whether to take the money off premier and change the kick off time but this one is on sky so it’s their shout.

I’m pleased for James Forrest to get another year at Celtic. He’s having an Indian summer and contributes well to the squad. For all his honours, appearances and goals though he’s still not managed a decent game at ibrox. I’ve said many a time there’s a hole just over the touch line there that he falls into.

£100 premium per ST for those occupying that specific section, say 1,000 bodies is £100k.
Should be enough to cover fines.
Pro Rata reduction the following season if premium isn’t fully required.
Seriously? So I and thousands of others, should be happy to subsidise neds who can’t behave themselves? I have heard some pish in my time….
====
You already ARE subsidising the neds.

Where do you think the money to pay the fines come from?

The Tooth Fairy?

What I was suggesting was a process aimed to make the neds pay.

Not pay for their behaviour as supporters already are.

How that suggestion can be described as pish suggests my aim and explanation has been misunderstood.

Increasing ST prices is not the aim, but making it clear who is paying the price already ie supporters, is.

Unless the support are happy to continue to pay, but moan like feck about it and like The Board think nothing can be done.

Alternatively the neds undertake to pay the fine and carry on regardless.

If you start from the baseline that the support are already paying, and God forbid, Celtic get sued if pyros cause health problems, the cost might go much higher, then the suggestion is anything but pish.

The confusion arises from your 101pm comment yesterday where you suggested raising the price of season tickets to cover the costs of the fines. You didn’t say that the price rise would only apply to certain ST holders, nor how they could be identified in the first place.

===
You have raised an alternative approach in my mind BAD.

STs come with conditions.

There may be one that covers what I’m thinking of.

Basically the condition would say.
In purchasing this ticket you are agreeing to abide by the rules set by Celtic.
If you breach those rules and that breach results in UEFA fines or claims from other supporters on damage to their health grounds then you will be responsible for payment of the cost Celtic will have to meet and you will be pursued for recovery in the courts.

Something on those lines but a message that says there will be personal financial consequences if rules are breached.

Who could argue with Celtic taking that approach?
