It’s tough at the top

Jeez, just look at that fixture list. As a man who likes to break the season down into blocks with separate expecting, the upcoming period isn’t just a block, it’s generally the defining period. Being there or thereabouts in March was Fergie’s philosophy,,well the Christmas and the New Year schedule afford that opportunity.

It’s a squad game, and when the fixtures come thick and fast is the cue to begin thinking of freshness and rotation,,surely the first choice 11 won’t start all 3 SPL games in quick fire succession then be expected to be at their best and carry our hopes and dreams into Crotia. Logic tells us resting players for specific games is about to occur, logic also tells us the replacements contribution determines their immediate future. On that thought I would start MacCowan today, even if playing Ross County away I would start him,, if he was signed as SPL cover with license to impress then surely the hour has cometh especially being at home today.

It’s unusual for any Celtic manager to come out and defend a player, so Brendan’s comments on Engles are significant. For what it’s worth here’s my thoughts,,,he’s a proper footballer that needs a bit of time, just like the gaffer said.

Valle is another proper footballer, he’s shown that much. I don’t envy Brendan’s position here, two left backs that (at this moment) look likely to depart come June,,,but I’ll say this. Should we nab a leftback in January he would have the requisite six months of Brodge-ball training under the belt,,any new guy bought won’t play much but start in earnest come next season. On that vein, I’m chillaxed with Lennon Miller being snapped up yet spending the rest of the season ‘at home’. Even with one departure from the midfield unit come summer there’s enough upto speed until he grabs it, he would be good CL qualifiers backup, and heaven knows the next domestic star coveted elsewhere. I do harbour a slight fear of an Italian club outbidding us, strange to type, but they’ve developed a penchant for good Scottish players recently and by all accounts he fits that would.

As for Valle, he’s gotta know by now he’s at a big club, and now we all know Barca have said ‘no thanks’ twice now. He must know if he transfers fulltime he’s the starter (assuming GT goes),
and he won’t break the bank to purchase outright. I personally would start him beginning today, to help gauge his consistency and sweeten him on the move.

As supporters we all love the festive period, as a manager decisions need made, as a player I’m sure they prefer the opportunity of (what must feel like) constant gametime. A single defeat to a heavily fancied team in their own stadium, many teams would bite your hand off for such a record at this stage of the season, but ‘we’ aren’t the average fans with ‘average’ attendance nor ‘average’ levels of support. Nor ‘average’ levels of expectation. It’s a credit to my fellow Ulsterman that his latest version of Glasgow Celtic have not been beaten by all infront of them bar one. May that streak continue today, and I’m confident it will.

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.
⭐️👏☘️👍🍾
That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.
Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

This drive has already raised approaching another £2000,so join in. The more, the merrier.

Default payment method seems to be ApplePay,which won’t suit everyone. There is an option on the page to change that to your preferred option.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is…
If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on each for the nominated charity as well!
The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.

Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?

Morning all,

I can see the gaffer ringing the changes today and next Saturday to keep legs and minds as fresh as possible for Aberdeen away, Europe and the cup final. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Schmiechel, Ralston, Trusty, Scales, Valle, McGregor, Bernardo, McCowan, Yang, Idah, Forrest.

It may result in a somewhat clunky transition but should be enough to get the job done at home and allow the manager to rest those that he and the backroom team think would benefit most from it.

That said, I’ve gone for 7-0 on the superbru predictor and regularly frequent the lower echelons of the table so we’ll probably start with a full strength eleven and win 1-0 lol. Have a great day all…

Not a fan of Talkshite Radio.

I think McCowan is a better footballer than being the first to drop in for the anticipated more agricultural SPL games.
He’s here hopefully to become a better player and we need him, and others, to develop into just that.

Auldheid.
For what’s done is done and what’s won is won
and what’s lost is lost and gone forever.
2 Lines from a town I loved so well.
Are they forgiving them or just wanting to move on?
To forgive is to forget..
Yes we can forgive but if the sinner does not recognise their sins and repent but continues with support from the authorities what then?
Are we just to turn the other cheek?
Me personally as a practicing Catholic can forgive individually but I cannot forgive what the SFA,SPFL ,UEFA ,LNS,CELTIC FC and the entirety of scottish society has done in aiding and abetting that they are the same club with all their previous honours..
Think I’m wrong!
Just wait till we win our 55th title, what will celtic say or scottish football?joint holders?????
But forgiveness will set us free,my arse..
Please cheat us again as I will forgive you!!

===
You have described what forgiveness is not.

I have set out what it is.

Now I think I can claim to have fought for SFA reform long and hard so my forgiveness clearly is not about forgetting. I’m still at it via SFSA.

I make a separation between the individuals and the mistakes they made for reasons they thought right at the time.

Love the sinner not the sin approach.

Sooner or later the wrongdoers and the wronged get together to right the consequences of the mistakes.

History is littered with peace agreements arrived at because the pain of not forgiving exceeds the benefits of forgiving.

It’s a long haul job delayed by the misunderstanding of what forgiveness is and what it is not.

As Catholicism is based on the teachings of Christ the biggest advocate of forgiveness in history how do you square not forgiving with Christ’s advice on the subject?

The bit about Christ is that even on the cross under terrible pain his words were ” father forgive them for they know not what they do”.

To me that does not mean forget about it. It means correct why they did what they did, not condemn them.

St Tam’s…you’d start Idah in the next FOUR games! On what basis? RC, Aberdeen, Hibs and Zagreb? Then what, keep him in or drop him v The Huns? There no fitba manager, at a club our level would operate in that way. Giakoumakis’ stats were incredible but he still couldn’t command a start unless Kyogo was injured.
I thought we had a connection earlier in the week but now I just feel I’ve come over all Marc Almond, figuratively speaking of course!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I did say to Chalmersbhoy that I was still working with SFSA on SFA reform.

I just got this update on progress from Chairman Andy Smith whose views on other issues are also worth reading.

https://scottishfsa.org/chairmans-blog-29-11-24/

Using events in England on football governance, which I suggested to SFSA was an opportunity to get Holyrood engaged and has got SFSA to this point.

Let’s hope as Andy says the football authorities and all involved engage in the spirit of what is right for Scottish Football as a whole.

Today I can see a few changes but no more than 4. I would start with Kasper – AJ – CCV – Scales – Valle – Engels – Callum – McCowan – Yang – Kyogo and Maeda.
Think by benching CCV and Engels they might think they were the scapegoats for Wed nights draw. Also starting Idah for next 4 games is a big call. Yes he is scoring when he comes on but dont forget the defence has chased Kyogo’s shadow for an hour before that. He is gaining confidence through scoring which can only be a positive thing. Definitely start him against sheep as that big brute #6 of theirs kicks Kyogo off the park. Idah has size and attitude to return it if needed.
Expect 3-0 today . Their biggest danger is the boy Hale up front.

Getting a media job writing about Celtic must be a breeze.

Pluck random player from thin air (In this case Ericksen of ManU)

Invent story surrounding our supposed interest in signing him, even though he’s in his 30s and on a reported £150k a week!

Wait a couple of weeks before telling the world the transfer won’t be happening because …well, take your pick!

Easy-peasy.

Bobby,

If we brought in Ericksen and Salah we’d find ourselves skint before the season was out.

As much as I like both players, I’d take a wild guess and say they won’t be signing for us any time soon.

Still get tickled when I think of the way the media portrayed some of the players we actually signed.

You might remember what some said when we signed a certain 33yo in the late 90s.

Well done that man 👏👏👏👏
I saw it and was going to post that at least 2 names would be wrong. I couldn’t see so many changes.
Shows what I know.

I agree changes were needed and that still looks a strong side.
My big worry is that we have really struggled and started even slower than usual in the last 2 games where we introduced a few different faces.
We really need to start quickly today.

Rebus67

As we head towards December and then the next transfer window, it seems like a good time to take stock of where the club is.

Overall, we should be optimistic. Top of the league; playing exciting football; doing quite well in the CL; in a cup final. In addition, the recruitment model seems to have changed along with those managing it. This why it is very important that outlays of 11 and 9 million are clearly seen to be justified. Failure in either of these investments will assuredly lead to a tightening of such investments.

Again on the positive side, subjectively, BR’s game management seems to have improved from his first stint at the club. Admittedly, he has a strong squad to call upon and he might be motivate by a policy of keeping everyone happy, but he does change both personnel and tactics during games. I just wish he was not so tied to the 60 minute sub model. Against SPL opponents that is fine, but in Europe it is too rigid.

Although the CL was kind to us….avoiding PSG, BM, Barca, RM, AM, Inter etc…in the past we have not competed against teams at the level of Atalanta, Leipzig, Brugge. With a bit of luck, or should I say, less bad luck, we could have beaten Brugge. Incidentally, their organisation and passing was outstanding. Past Celtic teams would have crumpled when faced with that. Currently, the team have learned patience and a bit of “rope a dope”. We did not look as polished but we were worth at least a draw.

Again only my opinion, but I get the impression this is a happy group of players…not a bad thing to have in the dressing room.

what have I forgotten? Money in the bank, I suppose, should be mentioned. I do not see any urgency for incomings for this season. There are concerns about a blend in the midfield, the striking efficiency, and the left back area. Any incomings in January are unlikely to make a decisive difference to how we perform domestically, and will be too late to decide our CL fate. Ultimately, the latter will depend on how other underperforming teams do in their final games.

Nope, there are good reasons to be pleased with the club, not least, because BR will not let complacency set in.

Enjoy the game, everyone,

Rebus

A fair balanced summary. We are competing against teams not in the top strata but whom we have struggled against in the past.
