Time For Some Sparkle

Morning,all.

The first trophy of the season is up for grabs on Sunday, and I’m quite sure that MAHE will be previewing it tomorrow. Meanwhile,I’ll venture into the current form of the two sides, with a view to allowing you to make a decision on which team you should place your tanner bet.

At the moment,I don’t think either side is playing particularly well. In Celtic’s case, we can’t seem to perform to our usual standards for both halves of any game, with possibly the games against Leipzig and the semi final against Aberdeen being exceptions. On Tuesday night we didn’t really perform in either half, which was hardly the reaction we expected when we said that we wanted this one half per game nonsense to stop!

Additionally, we have to be concerned about the form of Maeda, Hatate and Kühn. None have dazzled recently, and Kühn in particular has gone from POTY material to ineffective running into dead ends. We know from experience, of course, that our three Japanese Bhoys love playing against R2ngers, and are usually good for a goal or two. We can hope that the trend continues on Sunday, and that Kühn rediscovers his sparkle and becomes the latest hammer of the huns.

At the back, our biggest concern has to be the two full backs. Taylor has got the nod from the manager recently, but I think his performances have been below his usual standard. This should be the time for Valle to be recalled, and we will need his speed against Cerny. On the right, the injury to AJ is a concern. Off at half time on Tuesday, and it would be out of character for him to retire so early just as a precaution. Although Big T is a solid replacement, he isn’t quite up to the class of our regular starter, and I hope he will have fully recovered in time.

In the midfield, we will doubtless see CalMac as the 6, but I can’t see BR playing both Engels and Bernardo in front of him. Both can do a job defensively in the midfield area, but it is in his forward play that Bernardo really excels in my opinion. He should get the nod in front of Engels, who came on for him after an hour in Zagreb.

Going back to the form of both sides, that 4-1 away victory in Nice seems to have given our opponents some belief. And that was obvious if you watched them last night against Spurs. Conversely, belief is something that Spurs are sadly lacking at the moment, but they managed to overcome a shocking performance and losing the opener to eke out a draw late on. I did notice that R2ngers were there for the taking after the equaliser, as though they had been punched in the guts, but Spurs allowed them more time on the ball than was wise, letting them regroup and finish strongly.

I see that then as the ideal way to do them. Score early, a real gut punch, and then force home the advantage while we have them rocking on the ropes. I think they will try to avoid that scenario by coming at us all guns blazing from the start, so we have to be ready for that, and ready to hit them hard and fast on the break. Soak up the early pressure and really apply our own. They aren’t going to make it easy for us, that’s for sure. They know this is probably their best chance of silverware, and with Beaton and Muir the main two officials, they have willing partners to help them out. Remember the dodgy offside call in the September game?

It is our form though that is my main concern, as I’ve already said. We have been blowing hot and cold, both domestically and in Europe. This is a habit that we have to break, and Sunday would be a good time to do it. It would be an excellent time too for our below par stars to come back to form. I want a win, and a win in the style that makes it difficult to leave any of our players out of my three POTY Competition selections!

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.

⭐️👏☘️👍🍾

That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of

Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.

Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.

Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

This drive has already raised approaching another £2000,so join in. The more, the merrier.

Default payment method seems to be ApplePay,which won’t suit everyone. There is an option on the page to change that to your preferred option.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is…

If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on each for the nominated charity as well!
The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.

Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?

I’m concerned about Sunday too. Form dictates and at the moment our form dictates nothing.

However, we are good a grinding out results when it matters and turning it on when it matters. Sunday would be an ideal place to prove it again.

Yet, recent Hampden games v Huns have been very close, even when they’ve been in poor form. So, it’s very hard to call.

We need a fit AJ, firing on all cylinders and a rejuvenated Kuhn to re – appear. We need the MF to be correct, so Bernardo on from the off. We need Maeda pushing Captain Disappointed into his own half and we need our central defence to bully their attacks and finally we need Kyogo to resume his one man personal scoring crusade v them.

All of this is achievable.i believe in BR and Celtic.

I think you have hit the right cautionary note Bobby.

The team that wants to win most on Sunday will win.

Our attitude has to be right from the off if it’s to be us.

An up for it Huns team played like men possessed against a very lacklustre Spurs side who, one assumes, ignored Ange’s pre match warning that this was going to be a serious battle. Spurs were rattled and never fully recovered. Werner, Son, Maddison etc were invisible.

A very poor, easily over run mid to front taken to task by an energetic Huns midfield- Raskin particularly harried and fought for every ball. His trademark nasty streak never too far away.
Cerny was constantly available as the main outball and will need watching on Sunday.
.

However, we are a different proposition for them.
We know what to expect.
As long as Calmac sets the tone and we get performances from our own lacklustre front three we will win- just not as comfortably as we thought a couple of weeks ago!

Their defence is still distinctly average- Tavpen and Jefte have mistakes in them.
Daizen n Kühn should exploit this.
Kyogo to put the fear into whatever combination plays at CH. Looks likely Souttar may be out.

They also won’t have the comfort of a whole stadium behind them in full bigoted voice.

The good guys to win by the odd goal.

Just Sayin’
December 13, 2024 8:08 am

Forgot to add- Cerny will not get the time on the ball Spurs allowed him.
Daizen will be needed as much for his defensive cover as his ability to terrorise the Hall of Famer.

Where has the confidence went?

We have much better players in almost every position on the park.

We will have had time to rest and recover.

Their manager has had 5 or 6 go’s at beating us.

Our manager is in another league to theirs.

We would appear to be able to pick from a full squad.

Plus, we have players like our captain who have been over the course many times, and after a decade of cup finals is yet to lose one!

We will be backed by 000s of the best fans on the planet.

Can’t see anything but a comfortable day at the office for the boys.

First leg of the treble will be back in a very familiar place on Sunday night 🏆🏆🏆

3-0 to the good guys….

Iniquitous IV,

I meant to thank you for your scouting report on young boys, it was great!

The one thing it has done is increase my confidence that on the night we will know exactly what we’ll be facing and the likelihood of them placing this game at the bottom of their priority list.

This was exactly what I’d been hoping/looking for from getting another opinion on them. I couldn’t watch their game the other night and still haven’t seen them in the champions league

Let’s be honest, if we can’t beat the team at the bottom of the table by being winless after 6 games, we will have blown the best chance we might ever get to establish ourselves in the latter stages.

Thanks again, you’re a diamond 💎

Sunday is too close to call. We have the better manager and the better players. They have the better referee and officials.

Big Audio Dynamite
December 13, 2024 10:12 am

I think Brendan opts for Taylor to start when he feels that experience is needed. In games like Sunday’s cup final he may feel that Greg is the safer option cause he has been over the course many more times than Alex.

I much prefer Valle as a player, but I’m not picking the team and feel he will start with Greg @Hampden ⚽

Big Audio Dynamite

Westcraigs,

Unbelievably they are saying the very same thing about the officials. Some of them actually believe that they have been cheated out of victories simply by the decisions that have been made at key moments during games against us.

How they can believe that is actually mind-bending.

They are a very strange bunch!

So what have we learned over the past 24 hours …

Spurs squad is honking / at the madam / poor of decision making and low of confidence.
Govan FC are back on the “special brew” / Ma’s “special tea” with a vengeance.
Midfield looked as if they have been swimming in caffeine for the past month.
Interesting team selection — graft over everything else.

Sunday — tougher game than it should have been.
We have spent a lot but progress has been slower than we hoped for.
They have settled down after the old guard revolt.

My thoughts — if we turn up then we win.
However we have not turned up on a regular basis since the NT break.
If fact we have hardly turned up at all.

A cup would be good but January is critical.

Govan FC — their squad know they have nowhere else to go.
Us — our squad needs to get focused.

Because of the inept recruitment team , we have only 4 midfield players to pick from on Sunday, none of which are capable of making a tackle.
We are in for a battle on Sunday in the middle of the park and they will target the left back area if Taylor is playing.
i expect that they will have Barron sitting right on top of Calum so our other 2 mids need to step up. I hope Hatate isn’t one of them.

In our last 6 domestic games we’ve won all 6 and scored 21 while conceding just 1 goal.

We are also unbeaten in our last 4 champions league games and only conceded 2.

But aye, we haven’t turned up at all.

Haha, utter nonsense.

If we’ve won our last 6 domestic games after scoring 21 and conceding 1 solitary goal, what will our results look like when we do start turning up? 😂

The rise/ fall of the 2003 CF’s …

Johnny Kenny coming back — interesting / we need another forward option.
Joey Dawson — is he still injured / he seemed to be a big personality in the B team.

One thing about football — always better to watch the game rather than comment on the scoreline you read in the paper.

I fear a few have still to learn that skill.
Fine margins in football — you get that from watching it not reading the headlines in a paper.

Our lack of form and consistency ? 😂

Give us a laugh and tell us what our results should look like according to you.

6 wins and 21 goals scored in those 6 matches, against 6 games and only conceding 1.

See when you need to make up shi t in almost every post, it should at least have some basis in truth.

We won our semi-final after putting 6 past the second best team in the country

Glasgow Celtic are a juggernaut and can beat the majority of the opposition without leaving second gear!

We will prove again on Sunday that no one in this country comes even close to our consistency of results.

A winning machine that hasn’t tasted defeat in Scotland for over 9 months! 😉

Big Audio Dynamite

Football is about results.

Celtic win more than almost any other team on planet earth.

I know it must be hard watching us just winning constantly

But talking nonsense about us on a wee football site won’t change our results.

We win when we are playing great , and we also win when we are playing at about 30% capacity.

Must be torture if Celtic aren’t the team you support …we get it

Enjoy the spectacle on sunday, and the result which is the most important thing 😉

Firstly an eye opener reading the SMSM this morning, regarding Sevco famously beating the EPL elite side Spurs 1-1, this following on from their triumphant beating of Celtic 3-3 at Ibrox in April should ensure the Baldy Brussels sprout keeps his job.

Way back since 1970 we’ve played at least one version of them 20 times in cup finals, the scores being seperated by one goal on 18 occasions, and 2 goals on the other 2, so although these are by nature historically tight affairs, previous results might suggest it could be another tight one, …..then again it could be that, they are due a doing.

That would do me.

BR says Alistair is fit for Sunday.

With the increased CL exposure (presumably increasing in the future), I would think that the price should have increased considerably. Even average EPL teams (like Spurs) are on about 50 million a year
