Jute, Jam, And Sanity?

Morning,all.

It’s time for the traditional clash of the cities as the two team from Glasgow face off against the two from Dundee. We return at High Noon on Sunday at Tannadice, a place I’ve usually enjoyed visiting. Not a bad day out,Dundee. But I never thought I’d be looking forward to visiting there in order to get back to some much-needed sanity.

I can’t really say that Scottish football has finally lost its marbles, but only because I came to that conclusion a long bloody time ago. However, there is certainly a case for saying that it might even have surpassed itself for sheer unabated lunacy over the last five days. The decision by Collum to issue the monthly VAR review on only the nineteenth day is certainly something novel, but the contents were truly astonishing. And in contravention of the facts of the matter, some of which I mentioned in yesterday‘s article and which were of prime importance in the onfield and VAR decisions on the day.

It’s pointless really to repeat it all here as it was discussed at great length yesterday by your good selves. But Collum (and Maxwell, if as we suspect, it was him pulling the strings and applying the screw) have not only set a precedent here, they have also made a rod for their own backs. Every club will now expect any complaint of their own to be accorded the same red-carpet welcome and the same mental gymnastics required to arrive at a required decision. And the inevitable outcome will, eventually, be to see a game replayed. From the point that the “wrong” decision was made too, not from the start. Unless the plaintiff so requests. In other words, if they’re getting gubbed 4-0, match replay. If it’s 1-1 with two minutes to go, game restarted at 1-1 and a penalty with two minutes to go.

See how easy it is to make even the most crazy idea crazier still? There is a good reason that one of the most fundamental laws of the game is that the referee’s decision is final. The laws may have been tinkered with over the years since 1863, but they are still recognisable. Anyway, enough. Except to say that I hope Dundee give them a bloody hammering tomorrow, just to see how Clement tries to wriggle his way out of that.

Dundee United it is, and while I hope to see the return of a 100% fit AJ on Sunday, I also hope it has been made 100% clear to him-and to the rest of the squad-that you don’t miss training since the last game and then tell the manager on the morning of the next game that you are fit to play. That was a bloody ridiculous decision, and if in fact it was made by the manager, then it is even more ridiculous still.

We have had a fantastic season so far in so many ways. And that includes how we have so far avoided the rash of injuries which have concerned us for a number of years now. It makes no sense to start inviting them now, even less to cause them by our own rash decision-making. Let’s put that down as a hard lesson learned and not to be repeated, thank you very much.

As ever, I will approach the weekend hoping for an increase in our healthy lead. I will now add to that every week by hoping that Aberdeen win-except when they play us,of course! Hey,it’s Christmas week, and I don’t think that’s asking for too much. Not really. I mean, you should have seen my Christmas wish-list when I was a wean!!!

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.

⭐️👏☘️👍🍾

That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of

Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.

Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.

Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

This drive has already raised approaching another £2000,so join in. The more, the merrier.

Default payment method seems to be ApplePay,which won’t suit everyone. There is an option on the page to change that to your preferred option.

The turn of Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust as beneficiary of our charity drive will end on December 31st,and we will begin fundraising for our next one on January 1st.

I’ll open the floor for nominations to all our kind-hearted readers as of now,and will announce the lucky recipient on December 27th,with donations from the 1st.

Just post your choice here, and I’ll count the backing as we go along. So if you agree with a particular nominee, signal your approval in a comment. It’s that simple.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is…

If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on each for the nominated charity as well!
The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.

Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?

Thinking the same Magill.
Celtic response will be the usual, take it on the chin and move on policy.
The hordes are being whipped up into a frenzy, and it’s going to be toxic.
If Celtic weather the storm, and get a result – we could well be in for the final, ultimate meltdown.
That club is toast, and it’s just a matter of time until it implodes.
The PLC’s worst nightmare is soon to become a reality, and there’s nothing they can do about it this time. 🤯
=============
” Celtic response will be the usual, take it on the chin and move on policy is a narrative that is based on not knowing.”

Just because Celtic do not go public does not mean they are taking things on the chin.

How can we deride R2ngers for statement o clock if we do the same?

How will the media react to anything Celtic say, report it honestly or twist it against us?

There is a line in a song that says “you say it best when you say nothing at all” and that is good PR, not giving the media a stick to beat Celtic with.

On not knowing what Celtic have done in respect of refereeing the then Company Secretary told me when the SC Referee as a Service proposal was presented, that failed to get enough Celtic shareholders to support that would have required a public statement at the AGM, that he was in constant touch with SFA about the decisions that saw the incumbent Head of Refereeing resign and Wullie Collum take over with a system that brings accountability and transparency if you listen to the December review by WC,, which in turn has rendered redundant the term “penalty to Rangers”

That appointment came out of the blue/green and I got just a hint that Celtic knew all about both the appointment and the process.

The idea promulgated that Executives at Celtic are incompetent is not borne out by my experience of working with them on issues to provide the best possible solution in the prevailing culture of Scottish football.

As supporters we have a choice

a) recognise that things are changing (FSR for example) or
b) dismiss efforts to change by Celtic as making no difference (FSR for example) in order to cling to beliefs based on the past were Celtic were tied to the blue pound model.

In any risk analysis the biggest outside risk to football and so financial success was Glasgow Rangers and their cheating.

In my view Celtic have taken steps to curb the advantage Rangers got in the absence of rules to curb them that now exist.

————

As far as FSR goes, (and possibly Auldheid can confirm this), if I’m picking up the correct figures.

Football clubs under UEFA (I believe) are allowed to lose a maximum of 30million euros over a 3 year period.

In their latest set of accounts Sevco had a loss of £17.2m
In their previous accounts a yearly loss of £4.1m

That total of £21.3m or 25.6million euro, ergo; if they have to keep in line with FSR

That means looking at their losses in their next due accounts, (30th of June)

If their losses land above 4.4m euro, they are in serious trouble.

So player trading sales are a must for them, and they will most likely be pushing their lackeys in the SMS to drum up fake interest in their current crop of diddies.

I think the more immediate basis for a licence being refused and the sale of high wage earners is the new annual requirement settling at 70% next season for squad spend not to exceed well defined football earnings.

The debt factor I have not looked at would provide another incentive to keep debt down but would not come into play until 26/27 Licencing round starting in Jan/Feb 2026 based on June 25 accounts.

Worth keeping an eye on.
