Jute, Jam, And Sanity?
Morning,all.
It’s time for the traditional clash of the cities as the two team from Glasgow face off against the two from Dundee. We return at High Noon on Sunday at Tannadice, a place I’ve usually enjoyed visiting. Not a bad day out,Dundee. But I never thought I’d be looking forward to visiting there in order to get back to some much-needed sanity.
I can’t really say that Scottish football has finally lost its marbles, but only because I came to that conclusion a long bloody time ago. However, there is certainly a case for saying that it might even have surpassed itself for sheer unabated lunacy over the last five days. The decision by Collum to issue the monthly VAR review on only the nineteenth day is certainly something novel, but the contents were truly astonishing. And in contravention of the facts of the matter, some of which I mentioned in yesterday‘s article and which were of prime importance in the onfield and VAR decisions on the day.
It’s pointless really to repeat it all here as it was discussed at great length yesterday by your good selves. But Collum (and Maxwell, if as we suspect, it was him pulling the strings and applying the screw) have not only set a precedent here, they have also made a rod for their own backs. Every club will now expect any complaint of their own to be accorded the same red-carpet welcome and the same mental gymnastics required to arrive at a required decision. And the inevitable outcome will, eventually, be to see a game replayed. From the point that the “wrong” decision was made too, not from the start. Unless the plaintiff so requests. In other words, if they’re getting gubbed 4-0, match replay. If it’s 1-1 with two minutes to go, game restarted at 1-1 and a penalty with two minutes to go.
See how easy it is to make even the most crazy idea crazier still? There is a good reason that one of the most fundamental laws of the game is that the referee’s decision is final. The laws may have been tinkered with over the years since 1863, but they are still recognisable. Anyway, enough. Except to say that I hope Dundee give them a bloody hammering tomorrow, just to see how Clement tries to wriggle his way out of that.
Dundee United it is, and while I hope to see the return of a 100% fit AJ on Sunday, I also hope it has been made 100% clear to him-and to the rest of the squad-that you don’t miss training since the last game and then tell the manager on the morning of the next game that you are fit to play. That was a bloody ridiculous decision, and if in fact it was made by the manager, then it is even more ridiculous still.
We have had a fantastic season so far in so many ways. And that includes how we have so far avoided the rash of injuries which have concerned us for a number of years now. It makes no sense to start inviting them now, even less to cause them by our own rash decision-making. Let’s put that down as a hard lesson learned and not to be repeated, thank you very much.
As ever, I will approach the weekend hoping for an increase in our healthy lead. I will now add to that every week by hoping that Aberdeen win-except when they play us,of course! Hey,it’s Christmas week, and I don’t think that’s asking for too much. Not really. I mean, you should have seen my Christmas wish-list when I was a wean!!!

Any time I’ve seen Graham, even in highlights on Sportscene,he’s been atrocious. Could only ever reach this level in Scotland.
That red card is as bad as it gets
With regards DD.
He backed BR spending this summer – aided by big sales of over £30m- nonetheless, we’re progressing in the CL and the return on investment is clear.
I’d be surprised if BR is not backed in January to complete the job domestically and also get us to a potential CL last 16 slot.
Money talks, we’re rolling in it thanks to BR.
San Luis
We shall see
Shortly.
Got ye bookmarked 😀
Miller loses ball in good position, Killie go to other end, and should have scored.
IQV4
that sounds like Calum.
I think we’re on to something
Subs Armstrong and Maswanise look much better players than those they replaced.
Miller sclaffs the ball for Killie corner. Not impressing today.
Final ball from both teams preventing a goalfest.
GNAGB ALL SENTINEL CELTS time to get wee joan up to bed, ive enquired about a stairlift but still waiting, so this nearly 72 year old will have to be the stairlift untill further notice😎 been a pleasure talking to you all tonight, really lifted my spirits👍👍❤❤

Good evening friends, pedantic Jobo here.
Some clubs have “majority shareholders”. That is ehete one individual holds more than 50% of the issued shate capital Such clubs are completely at the mercy of such an owner. I can think of one such former Glasgow club.
Every other club will have a ‘majority shareholder’. He’s the guy or gal who holds more shares than anyone else, but not the 50% to railroad through everything that he wants.
Dermot holds about 30% of Celtic’s shares. He clearly has a BIG influence on Celtic’s strategy and direction. But,like a minority government, his ideas need the support of others to get adopted.
Just sayin’ like…

A point I made to Ernie Lynch. Just another of those mad ideas one would expect from Mad Mitch to promote without research.
BTW if mike in toronto comes on, tell him I replied to his post earlier👍❤
Imagine the alternate reality where every game when there is a contentious VAR decision is replayed or is it only when it affects Sevco 🤔
Barca – Atletico at 8:00pm GMT tomorrow night should be a cracking game. It’s going to be Baltic here this weekend going down to -10C or 14F by Sunday morning, 🥶so I’ll be glad to be inside huddled up watching it.😊
5 days on,the deflection continues, it’s brilliant
Make of it as you will:
Cue Gombeen Man
Majority shareholder means someone who owns more than 50% of the shares in a company.
The English language is being bent out of shape to suit the agenda of cap doffers and DD acolytes.
DD with his 30% shareholding is getting special treatment from the club.
What about the rest — do we just get a second rate service of like it or lump it.
All in all — not grade A corporate governance in any way shape or form.

Im not saying that the PLC are naive or apprehensive about anything in Scottish football that they keep stuchm out of any kind of retribution. I am of the opinion that the PLC will risk the careers of young footballers from hun inflicted injuries because their long term vision is and always has been Old Firm.
=====
I don’t dispute that the OF is what provided the income that Celtic depended on but if making money is all the Celtic Board are interested in then European income far outstrips what Celtic can earn from the blue pound.
However other clubs depend for some of their income on the blue pound so Celtic have no interest in damaging them.
It a delicate balance because every club depends on every other club to provide competition and without those other clubs Celtic would have no one to play.
It is what it is and what it is is football is an interdependent enterprise or do you not accept that is the case?
We are 11 points clear of R2ngers at the top and have a game in hand over Aberdeen.
If Celtic really pushed the boat out on player spend what are the chances the league would be over as a competition for the title after the January game?
Not a good look for the football industry in Scotland trying to attract TV money.
Have you ever seen a club lacking in any kind of Dignity than this manky mob 🤔
Motherwell players Red Card should be overturned on appeal as their next game is against us.
It was a ridiculous sending off.
Nice to hear a good day was had at the Shipbank 🍺🍺🍺

I think you are doing the bending by ignoring that DD depends on support of fellow shareholders on the Board to have a majority if an issue at Board level comes to a vote but that to you is special treatment? Nonsense it is how things work at Board Level.
Do you really believe PL was in favour of a BR return and ready to accept a change in policy that brought BR back if DD and fellow directors thought otherwise? Really????
I said before I think BR was attracted back to lead a change in direction and the lure of becoming a possible Celtic Director after steering Celtic to a higher level might be a decisive factor.
All the indications are that this is the case.
What indicates to you that it is not so that ignores BR’s record since returning?

I think you are being disingenuous
The SPL only exists to support the Old Firm.
No one outside the OF has won the Scottish league for nearly 40 years!!!
DD is still waiting on the EPL eating itself out of existence for his Emperor with no clothes entry. If it wasn’t for these fucking pesky oil rich Arabs who watched West Bromwich as kids. You’re deluded man. Celtic need to decide this January where their future lies
I suspect Hunnery
its a lot safer than Borrussia Dortmund.
I’m all for replaying/reviewing games and titles where bad refereeing decisions have altered the outcome 🤔
Where do you want to start 🤔

They have. Its in Europe where they have the power to ensure they play there.
I doubt DD thinks the EPL will eat itself out of existence in his lifetime but even if he does Europe is where its at in the meantime.
You stick to your delusions and I’ll stick to mine.

Apart from Dortmund Celtic have been competitive against teams better than some we lost to in the past.
If we play v Young Boys as we did Leipzig and qualify for next stage will you bookmark that but hope we lose just to be right?
I hope we win because I am a Celtic supporter not to be right on a football blog that requires bookmarking just to say I told you.
My take is simple. If making money from Celtic is all DD cares about then Europe is where there is money to make not Govan.
Bring it on 😎
Evening all
Before I slope off to bed.
An entity- be it an indivdual, a group of individuals acting in concert, a company or whatever- that owns 30% or more of the voting shares in a company is said to hold a CONTROLLING INTEREST in that company. Defeating an entity which holds a controlling interest in any shareholder vote is very difficult to achieve – and in Celtic’s case impossible if the 2nd biggest shareholder votes with the biggest. I am not sure I like that but it’s the way things are.
Jimbo
AULDHEID
I’m no fan of DD,nor of our board in general, but there is a very good reason why DD’s shareholding of approx 35% (or whatever) converts him from the major shareholder (shareholder with the highest %age) to the de facto majority shareholder.
That is the number of small shareholders who either cannot be traced,or cannot find their original share certificates,or hold them via a share buying vehicle such as Hargreaves Lansdown,St James Place, etc.
As around a quarter of shareholdings are unlikely to ever be used for voting purposes,DD then becomes very difficult to beat in a vote.
Auldheid
you are being disingenuous again and disrespectful this time.
I never want Celtic to lose
The issue here is the motivation of the PLC and I think you’ve got that wrong
I’ve thought of an Idea. 💡
Police Scotland should hand out pots of honey to the Ibrox fans, prior to the game January 2nd:

Re DD being a major shareholder, my recollection of voting at AGMs was DD had the proxy vote of the second major shareholder and as such ‘called the shots’.
You don’t get where he is unless you have all your ducks in a row!
More importantly great news about wee Joan.
As the Coronation cup was featured, very briefly, in a clip I’ll mention I was at all the Celtic games in that competition and we weren’t an outstanding team prior to that. We had a knack of winning one-off trophies and it came good.
Nelly Mochan won three cup medals and hadn’t yet played at Celtic Park.
Glad to see SFTB was remembered today at the ‘wee sesh’.
