Tangerine Time

Well folks, it looks like the footballing God’s have blessed us with another opportunity to find form ahead of the much desired Cup Final replay (what are they like?) and like last weekend this one is also away from Paradise with a pretty decent opponent who cannot be overlooked.

Thankfully the winning finalists won’t face extra time, nor penalties, and they had midweek free which resulted in some frolics and one imagines a bit of team bonding. I wonder if they will have a spring in their step. We all know what the manager got up to,,sorting out the January spend, and I wonder if this alongside a Cup will put a spring in his step.

Alas, the weather will not lend itself to a game of finesse, quite the opposite, and I wonder if that suits our opponents? United could take heart we just conceded 3, shouldn’t be able play the usual game, and there’s known injuries, AJ and James.

They could find some hope but ironically I would suggest Celtic have a lot of tools in their locker for a poor conditions/just win it tricky fixture. Ralston might have started anyway, the Canadian does need the occasional rest and the native would love an old fashioned crossing frenzy in the rain. Crossing to Adam, it’s much more his type of game than Kyogos.

We couldn’t pass well on a wet surface not long ago, I’d like to see a more direct style of play, and three midfielders who can test the keeper from range.
Callum, Luke, Reo all with license to shoot?
I’m not too bothered by the other selections, but with the annual injury to James the right wing position looks weak and we could do a lot worse than having Kuhns understudy signed. I’ve a nagging memory of Palma playing decent and scoring in the rain somewhere/sometime, perhaps he is in for a shot on the right taking over from Nicholas after he’s ran his race? Wouldn’t surprise me. Who is actually considered the backup right wing player will emerge as the German can’t play every single minute.

I like to imagine there will be no Cup hangover, team quality and good vibes will carry us through and deliver the 3 points,,and as much as I’ve banged on about form recently, I am not demanding it from this fixture. Winning ugly would be perfectly fine, it would actually reassure me.

As for the opposition, everyone involved should be delighted with their current position, not only 5th but looking like an SPL regular already. I really want to see a full-house and given the timeslot I was almost going to type there’s no excuses,,,but in reality there’s the biggest excuse of all. Christmas being three days away means any gift tickets can’t be handed out yet, means the belt must be tightened for a hell of a lot, and it’s dreich weather to boot. I know The Tims will be there and inevitably get topless belting out their own version of Merry Christmas to the supporters of last week’s eventually beaten foe. When you see that, Santa really is coming, that’s his cue.

I’ve not deleted any of his posts. Sometimes his comment will get caught in our filters, other times he’s pissed too many people off and is suspended. But I can’t remember deleting him.

Yep. Something more, like a defence. Or a method of playing sides like Liverpool without a (non-existent) high line.

One thing about today was that we did not play too badly.
Just a case that all our limitations in our play were on show and they became more pronounced.
Last week’s penalty shoot-out win — that was not euphoria it was relief.

D/Utd did not play well — if they had managed to reach that level they would have won.
If they had managed to play well they would have scored and therefore won the game.

We showed some promise in the first half but this evaporated in the second half as the pressure built up and the fear descended — big question relates to where does the fear come from?

We are playing well within ourselves — possession is everything / rinse and repeat.
The players are struggling to play the game that BR wants — and that is their focus.

Lack of leadership / lack of responsibility / lack of courage.
We are playing a very limited game poorly and the players are switching off.

Things looked OK in the first half but in the second half when the pressure started to build it was the semi circle of doom outside their 18 yard box with the intention of keeping the ball rather than making and taking chances.

Post the RBL game — BR seems to have found a stash of gallus pills.
Louder / more animated / more direct / more expressive — to the outside world.
Not sure how his manner has changed to the players but now they look scared fartless.

Plus we have the message that he is taking a step back from the day to day stuff.
Why he would want to do that given that he is a coach first and a manager second?
Consequently the mix that goes into our performances looks to have changed.
And our performances have taken a turn for the worse.

Huge transfer window coming up to overcome the shambles of the summer.
Less than 2 weeks to find out the story of the second half of the season.

Very negative I grant you but if you remember 1987 you will know why.
To those of a youthful disposition think 2009 but twice as bad.

In my many guises I have challenged the views of many on here.
However I only seem to get suspended when I upset the applecart with the WhatsApp group.
The usual suspects — men of a certain vintage who claim infallibility and the ear of PL.

In other news SC is going to Hollywood to produce a new show.
Where once the “Equaliser” ruled the roost we are now going to have the “Patroniser”.
Man on a mission — stalking the interweb looking for those who talk down our execs.

Seems a bit of a niche product — a hit in G74 and nowhere else.
However be on the lookout for it — pilot episodes ion here regularly.

This site retains its original anti-board stance. But we always give credit where it is due-after all,it won’t get us anywhere by being hypercritical in the face of evidence to the contrary.

And the board with never do anything worthy of credit if we don’t acknowledge it when they do. Human nature, that.

Open it to the floor?
If it fills the back of a stamp I will be surprised.

How many “penalty to Rangers” can we assume here? Just the 4?

===
If that is all they been awarded that changed a result this season then that would be acceptable if that has happened, but how many were they awarded this season that mattered?

That would be the factor to apply.

They played to their strengths to get a result they would be happy with and got it.

It’s all relative, in this instance the difference in quality between their players and ours.

We did not stop them reaching the limits of their ability, they reached their limits on their own to nullify or reduce the difference.

We failed to reach our limits due to the opposition, absences and the weather.

If the opposition had not turned up then poor as we were we would have won.

We cannot dismiss how the opposition play when assessing how good we are if we want to arrive at a reasonable judgement.

When Real toy with us do we dismiss their superiority as a non contributory factor and when we punch above our weight v Barcelona is the quality of the opposition not then taken into account when we celebrate?

We cannot have it both ways to suit what we already think.

Confirmation bias/cognitive dissonance and ego play a part in the meaning we give things.

It’s a matter of being aware they might exist in our thinking process and being prepared to review our conclusions.

PS.
If Hibs were shite when second bottom where do Dundee Utd in fifth place stand in the shiteometer.

The January transfer window is going to be fascinating. I think most would agree that the team could do with strategic augmentation. Typically a difficult period, and new signings can’t play against Young Boys or Villa, but could be tempted by the reasonable possibility of us progressing in Europe.

Wonder if we will push the boat out for a player? Will the mustachioed one and Brendan surprise us?

Watching Sportscene I counted 7 efforts that could have resulted in goals.
Hatate just wide with a shot
McCarron just a bit wider.
Idah just wide.
Maeda header keeper saved
Engles toe poke keeper saved.
Kyogo sitter.
Kyogo shot wide.

Only one going in changes the game to a good win in prevailing conditions.

You may be onto something.

Zen Buddhism / Excuse monger edition does the SPFL …
There has to be a market for it out there somewhere.
And if there is you have it covered.

Zen Buddhism / Excuse monger edition for the SPFL.

====
There ye go labling a school of thought as excuse mongering rather than consider the lesson that might be learned if you were to consider the possibility you might be wrong.

Labling is a defense mechanism to avoid the possibility our thinking, for example that LQB give you a second thought, might be wrong.

It’s scary when reality bites and challenges a life time of thinking we believed to be true, so avoidance is understandable.

I know I did not readily change the thinking that had misled me for quite some time

It can be painful and so avoided.
