Going Angst-Free
Morning,all.
Undoubtedly an angst-filled noon slot on Sunday as we toiled in terrible conditions against a Dundee United side which, despite their home advantage, played the entire match like a team in a relegation battle and desperate for a point. To any watching neutrals, it would be difficult to convince them that this was actually a side looking to consolidate their already tenuous hold on a European place. They added nothing whatsoever to the “occasion” but let’s be honest.
Neither did Celtic.
We went into the game on a high after winning the first trophy of the season, a trophy which removed any lingering claim of our opponents to be the most successful club in the world. Yes,we all know that the claim is a load of nonsense, and that is why we certainly won’t be claiming it, but it’s nice to take it off them anyway! We also had an entire week between games, our first (with the exception of international breaks) since the beginning of September over three months ago. We had, in other words, a pretty good time of it in midweek-except for the fact that some of our players succumbed to illness!
This led to a shake-up in the team, with five changes. We’ve seen earlier in the season, as BR took the chance to give some game time to otherwise underused members of the squad, that we struggle to adapt to having so many changes at once. And with gale-force winds and driving rain softening the pitch as well, it is little wonder that we struggled to impose ourselves on even the most supine of opponents.
Supine, that is, until we went anywhere near their goal! And there were precious few times when we did. Idah set up a glorious chance for Kyogo late on, and that was really just about that. The wee fella confounds me still when I watch replays of his goal against Hibs; his miss on Sunday will probably confound us all for a lot longer than that!
But it isn’t fair to highlight that moment as the one where we dropped two points. (And for most of us,it was two points lost, rather than a point gained.) The two points were lost all over the pitch. That chance aside, the service to the strikers was appalling. The midfield weren’t doing it, and neither were the wide players. Nobody came out of that day smelling of roses, frantically calling their agent to add a few minutes to their highlights reel.
We can all look back to performances since our double header of delight with Aberdeen in the semi and Leipzig in Europe, but we have won them all regardless! Our worst performances in that time have probably been against Aberdeen and Dundee United, both away from home, and last weekend’s cup final victory. But all have had one thing in common-utterly dreadful conditions.
We won the first two, and while I am disappointed with Sunday, I cannot deny the facts. That we have a nine point lead in the league, a trophy in the bag, and a very good chance of progress in Europe. We have also only lost one game domestically in this calendar year, along with one in Europe.
So I’ll bite back my post-match frustration, and point out that I’d have settled for all of the above if you had asked me in August. That Sunday was an aberration caused more by the conditions and the enforced changes, rather than the inevitable outcome of so many under-par performances recently.
Because I might be a tinsel-free fella at Christmas, but I’m buggered if I’m gonna let it ruin a great family day! I hope you all have a great family day too, even if that only includes a phone call to faraway family and friends. Enjoy it, folks. Life’s too short, and the fitba’s back on Thursday anyway!!!

Huns trying to exert influence over the SFA. It was ever thus. Give this mob an inch and they’ll take a mile. When we had the furore at tynecastle last season I think Beaton was back reffing us in a fortnight. That’s worse than being on VAR. Also veiled references to Celtic and Frank Connor being involved in our game evokes memories of Walter Smith calling out “Mr Murphy” all those years ago at Fir Park. This sort of behaviour is exactly why a lot of our support find it hard to forgive our board for their actions around res 12. They may not be back on the park as yet but off the park they and their support are as odious as ever.
Fan/SES/Everyone
My setting out why Celtic did not do the right thing in 2012 does not mean I don’t want a toxic free game and support The Board.
I’ve worked closely with SFSA to bring that toxic free game aim about after realising Celtic and some of the support were not interested and were content with the status quo or would not make the sacrifice that would bring about change no matter how much they complained about how Celtic were run.
When I refer to the SFSA efforts the main response is of skepticism based on a core belief that the anti Catholic/Irish section of Scottish society will not allow it, yet SFSA have brought all stakeholders to the table.
The SFA/The SPFL/supporters of football in Scotland represented by the SFSA and the SG.
On supporters it is a pity Celtic supporters do not have a group representative of them like CSA or CST at those meetings to provide their input.
I understand why my input here might give the impression I am Board leaning, but unlike keyboard warriors I got off arse to try and make change happen, to remove the very things we as a support disapprove of yet got little support from the support at large.
This short video expresses how I would like Scottish football to be.
I’ve posted it before but does anyone here think this is not how it should be?
Or does it ask too much of a club founded on Christian traditions the support embrace to share with other clubs in line with that tradition?

I see a bit of cosmic irony in that ever since Wullie Collum brought a degree of transparency and accountability to the game decisions that automatically went their way no longer do.
Now they know how we felt and I enjoy seeing their pain.
A further cosmic irony is that they are seeking neutral refs!!
I cannot stop laughing at their volte face.
I put it to Celticbynumbers that they might pursue the Referee Service proposal created here on SC that, another cosmic irony, never got enough Celtic shareholders to sign up to.
He was amused given his advocacy for the proposal
Take a back seat up on the balcony, stock up on the shadenfruede popcorn and watch the universe unfolding as it will.
Btw if Celtic supported the WC appointment and the process he has championed that is what has driven Rangers into statement o clock.
No need for Celtic to play statement tennis. They may well already have grabbed all the schadenfreude popcorn.
Sometimes we say it best when when we say nothing at all.

The total absence of self awareness is astounding.
Frank Connor obviously gets dug out due to his name, meanwhile the goat botherer who was on VAR gets it easier
March 2024: John Beaton makes two massive VAR errors in Celtic’s visit to Tynecastle. Celtic boss calls out errors and gets suspended by SFA. nice to see BAD AND MADMITCH put there grievances aside and be friends, thats what christmas is all about❤❤❤❤
Their embarrassment is total, reduced to the rubble of a disgusting statement on Christmas Eve, and good will to all men? An expose of why their toxicity precedes every iota, of their new existence.
They’ve tried everything to beat Celtic, they can’t lay a glove on Brendan Rodgers, (whom SMSM traduced when his return was announced). Their followers will buy the signalled deflection from the reality, which remains, life support.
VAR is a blight on football , VAR in a small country with an organisation that thinks it’s o.k. to cherry pick for the satisfaction of one club, was a red flag. Now look where it has gotten them, we’ve no idea why Sevco object to somebody apparently called Frank Connor officiating at another club’s game have we?
The real offenders are the soft loaners, fanning the flames and flaming their fans.

Hi Bobby:
Big Packy’s tale reminded me of an incident at Detroit airport back in the mid 80s. I had disembarked off a flight from London and was one of a small group of passengers randomly selected for a bag search by Customs officers. The staff were African American. My bag was being sifted by a male officer. Right beside me was a female passenger. Her bag was opened by a young female officer who, as it turned out, was probably a naive rookie.
The rookie unearthed a vibrator from the woman’s case. It was very plain, not one of these anatomically correct versions. She looked puzzled, and asked, “What’s this?” The passenger replied “What do you think it is?” sounding annoyed and embarrassed. My guy hadn’t noticed, and continued looking through my two bags. When the female officer opened the base of the vibrator and found batteries, but still looked uncomprehending, he finally saw what was going on, got the picture immediately, and whispered in her ear. I couldn’t tell if she was blushing, but it was her turn to look annoyed and embarrassed. She threw the vibrator back in the back as if it was plutonium, stepped back and snapped at the passenger, “Enjoy your stay!”
Strange what you remember sparked by a comment on here.

Cheers. I’m a persistent bugger.
In my reply I said
” no matter how much they (the supporters) complained about how Celtic were run.”
That reminded me how I ended up on the football reform journey.
Back in the season of honest mistakes nearly every CQN post was a complaint about those honest mistakes.
Me, being naive me, wasn’t happy with justified expressions of concern on a screen I wanted to do something about it.
So I suggested some CQN posters meet up in O Neil’s in the Merchant City to see what could be done to cause change.
I even produced minutes of that meeting for God’s sake 🙂 but recall Terry O Neil was there as was ParkheadcumSalford and MarkMcGees Magic Eyeliner who I am still on good terms with to this day.
Anyway Paul Brennan joined us and told the small group that CST CSA and AICS were having an Open Meeting in St Mary’s so we agreed to attend that and asked other posters from CQN to join us.
The result was more than 100 attendees one of whom was Canalamar!!! A most amazing individual amongst many including the Mags brothers in their own unique ways. Love them to bits but one especially.
I told Jeanette there would be a large number turning up and asked if refereeing could be added to the agenda which she was happy to do.
Then I thought this could turn into another CQN complaint session with no effective outcome.
So subconsciously borrowing on a suggestion of one CQN poster about the need for transparency and accountability, I drafted a resolution seeking that and a Review of the post match video panel process being used by SFA to screw Celtic whenever they could.
I sent it to Jeanette who then cleverly got support for it at the meeting to take to Celtic who used it because it suited them at the time to do so.
That is what set me on Resolution Road.
However that is not the main point of this story.
After an AGM meeting I met the CQN poster outside CP with BRTH and others, whose suggestion I had used and he was delighted I had.
I can now look back at how I got involved and why i.e. to help address supporters concerns but could resent over time that they were not as pro active in pursuit as I.
However instead I look at the wonderful world of friendship and comradeship that endures to this day that has resulted.
That world includes those who were critical of my efforts because they thought being critical was the right thing to do without knowing my motivations.
Because of my belief that folk do the wrong thing by telling themselves it is right (and I include myself obviously and The Board) I decide to respond as I do in a loving manner rather than resentful and my world has been so much more wonderful as a result of that realisation in my lifetime since..
An attitude of gratitude including the more painful times like now is my coping with life mechanism and I cannot help but want to share it in the hope others might benefit in their lifetime past or to come.
I used loving response instead of forgiveness because it’s a trigger word, but I do my best to try to love everyone I encounter warts and all.
And do you know what? They love me back warts and all.
Aren’t starfish covered in warts?
Said with love for MM the grit that produce what I think are my pearls of wisdom.
I also find laughing at myself is the best medicine.
I sometimes ask myself ” Pat, wit ur ye like ” because it makes me laugh at myself knowing what I’m like and how others might see me, especially my immediate family including my loving sister who knows me all of my 78 years and sometimes looks in.
My ATOB.

Nah, Auldheid, we have you pegged as a bone idle, lazy, shiftless, lollygagging, indolent, slothful, inactive, lackadaisical, good for nothing loafer. We can all tell from your brief, clipped, laconic, condensed, terse posts that you just canny be bothered. 🤣😅😂
Seriously, mate, the whole Celtic support owes you a huge debt of gratitude for your persistent, marathon, exhausting, ethical pursuit of truth and justice. My Gran would have called you “A wee stubborn”.🤣
It was an honor and a great pleasure to meet you in the Horseshoe in October after 12 years of correspondence, and you were exactly as I expected. I know you were not well at the time, and had made a special effort to turn up, and you have no idea how much I appreciated that.
