Reasons To Be Cheerful
Morning,all.
Yesterday wasn’t just Paradise Regained for me, as I attended in person for the first time since January. It might also have been Paradise Regained for the players too, especially in the second half. AJ and Trusty were given a rest-the latter on the bench-as were Kyogo, Kühn and Hatate who all came on for their say in the second half. Kühn and Hatate in particular looked much sharper than of late, and I was pleased to see them both get on the scoresheet.
I was equally pleased to see Engels and Maeda on the scoresheet too. Engels looked much more like the player who excited us all so much in his early games for us, and he got his reward with the opener in added time in the first half. ( And the MOTM award.) In fact,it was his pass to Yang which saw our Korean winger upended by the keeper for the penalty.
Up until then, I thought that our final ball and the service to our wide men had been very poor, and it improved some in the second half as Motherwell were forced to chase the game. Not that they did much of that, looking content to keep the score down in the hope that they could hit us on the break. But our centre backs were more than a match for their opponents, and Schmeichel could have taken his Christmas Compendium of Crosswords on to the pitch with him.
Twelve minutes into the second half and Well’s game plan was completely oot the windae. Engels took a peach of a corner on our left, and Scales caught a glancing header at the near post. Maeda was lurking for just such an event, and headed the ball home. Two up and time to see the game out.
The raft of substitutions which followed soon after put paid to any hopes of leniency that the visitors might have been hoping for. As I said,Kühn and Hatate really looked up for it and they both scored late on. A fairly harmless looking case of keep-ball in front of their box resulted in Kühn hitting it from 25 yards, and the deflection took care of the rest. And with ten minutes remaining, Hatate picked the ball up in a similar position to fire home a cleaner effort into the bottom corner.
All in all,a fairly bloodless victory against a side which, while more adventurous than Dundee United on Sunday, didn’t offer much in the way of entertainment. I have to give the referee a special award too, for I have never seen so many dead-balls moved back to a more correct position. Talk about picky?
We return on Sunday for another home match, then we can relax over New Year. We can preview those matches as they come; for the moment, I’ll sit here content to wallow in a 12 point lead. Well done, lads. Proud of yeez…

As you will all know, the site finally nominated a charity to be the recipient of the generosity and largesse of yourselves, and I think you all deserve huge applause for raising just short of £2k.
⭐️👏☘️👍🍾
That period has passed, and a new charity has been chosen to take us through to the end of the year. A landslide vote in favour of
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.
Once again,CHALMERSBHOY has done the spadework via JustGiving.
Here is the link for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, our new charity which we will support.

This drive has already raised approaching another £2000,so join in. The more, the merrier.
Default payment method seems to be ApplePay,which won’t suit everyone. There is an option on the page to change that to your preferred option.
The turn of Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust as beneficiary of our charity drive will end on December 31st,and we will begin fundraising for our next one on January 1st.
Today is your last chance to nominate a successor with votes closing at 8pm tonight. I will announce the lucky recipient of future fundraising shortly after that, with donations from the 1st.
Just post your choice here, and I’ll count the backing as we go along. So if you agree with a particular nominee, signal your approval in a comment. It’s that simple.

I share the joy that it will be a special time – and the Huns, who have had their Epiphany early, will be illuminated further on the second.

In addition to the nominated treble (see above) there is also a weekly 6-team acca. Each of us is looking for a nailed on certainty, but there’s no such thing! But we only make one selection each, and all we ask is…
If yer daft enough to follow our advice, put a quid on each for the nominated charity as well!
The current drive got a £400 boost from this a couple of weeks back,so we are hoping to build on that.
Go on,folks. A quid? What are you waiting for?
Good morning, friends and a Big Happy Friday to all who post or lurk on this fine site.
Voting on yesterday’s game remains open until at least 2pm tomorrow. Results out tomorrow afternoon.

Bobby,
I was looking for Engels to help out in the first half in their five v our three.
Bernardo dug in, Calmac misplaced a few and Taylor evened it up a bit.
Arne did put it into the box but it should have been Oxborough’s all day until Yang nicked it and he whacked him.
An assist if you’re counting them.
This after Daizen was kicked in the head and good old Tony Watt deflected a goal bound header over.
Engels corner right into the on rushing Scales ( who I thought very good ) and Daizen finishes.
Another assist I suppose.
He was then subbed and got MOTM.
All’s well that ends well but Arne needs to get on his game from the start.
I’m probably wrong but I thought one of the dead balls that was moved back was the right thing to do.
Engels took an outswinging corner and play stopped. On Celtic TV they said it was a foul and the keeper placed the ball just ahead of the 6 yard line. The ref got pelters for moving it back to the line.
At the time I thought the ball had gone out straight from the corner before curling back in hence it was a goal kick, not a foul. They didn’t show a replay so I can’t be sure.
Not that I thought the ref got everything right!!!!!
As I said yesterday I think the MoM award was given to boost the confidence of a guy who has been struggling.
STEVENAIVE
My sister and I also thought Maeda deserved a penalty for that incident. Very strange-although there was a lengthy injury delay to both their keeper and Maeda, there was no official VAR check. Then,a few minutes later, the game was stopped for well, something, then restarted-STILL without an official VAR check.
Mind you,McLean was on VAR. Says it all for me.
FRODSHAMBHOY
I think that was the one where the ref insisted the ball be moved about four times. Officious wee twat.
I guess Lost in Transit must have been out late last night celebrating.
He’ll be like a bear with a sore head this morning.
Interesting to see the steady improvement in Arne’s numbers this season…

Have a great day everyone.
Morning all,
Great Carlsberg Boxing Day yesterday.
I also thought it was a penalty for high boot against Maeda, but not a jot on Sportscene.
Funny that 🤔🤔🤔
Now my 3 for Jobo,
Scales
Engels ( For penalty and goal assist )
Calmac
Enjoy your day everyone 💚

Bobby
Good you got back for a game with loved ones.
Weather playing a part in recent results.
Still need some quality in January with a view to CL now & 25/26 …but more than sufficient to handle anything domestic fitba has to offer.
PS had 2-1 on St Mirren @ 20/1 …unfortunately, no time to cash in early … ☺️

From what I saw the conditions were terrible — fast / slippy pitch that caused most of the issues in the first half. Paisley must have its own micro climate as the difference was night and day.
Defence — three out 4 from the reserves is not a good watch.
AR — with the odd game here and there — adrenaline and his team mates get him through.
Now that he is becoming a regular — the effort is there / the football ability is not.
LS — can play up the standards of good players around him. Struggles to set the standard.
GT — wrong structure / wrong position / wrong just about everything. Another who can provide the odd good game surrounded by good players but lost when he has to do it himself.
Set up up is also honking — M / W formation as in 3 / 2 / 2/ 3.
Fat too much of the MF play involves GT and CMcG faffing about with AE / PB in limbo for far too much of the game — pushed forward waiting for passes that never come.
CMcG is struggling — his passing is 90% backwards and his accuracy is terrible with a majority behind the intended target. Fourth quarter and he started to challenge himself and the team with more forward play but overall it was pitiful.
Us vs M/well — talent overload given the wages on show.
The conditions rather than the players shaped the game.
Ludge MIB / Ludge VAR — they are now part of the SPFL experience.
Goal goes in — first question is now always about VAR.
Will they find a way to disallow it,
.
Wingers yesterday — bit of a mixed bag.
YH-j — young / immature / unlucky.
Ludge MIB gave him no support and made a few wrong calls.
However quick feet and the skill is there.
Needs support / possession / coaching.
DM — usual mix of can’t be ersed and hyper effectiveness.
Not sure what his attitude is at the moment — NT break has a lot to answer for.
NK — total quality and now starting to find it.
Final 10% of his long walk to greatness — passing the ball to team-mates in a better position.
Plus we have the conundrum that is LP.
Our one true NT star who walked past his marker for 10 minutes on Sunday.
Then it all collapsed and he beat himself time after time.
All in the head ?!?
Thought Scales was excellent yesterday driving forward looking to make forward passes unlike most of his team mates. I don’t think Trusty has been ‘rested’ more likely dropped after a run of fairly poor performances. Liam’s position now – imho of course.
Subs made the difference. Engles MOTM-😮🤔nah, at least not the game i was watching anyway, albeit he seemed to contribute more yesterday.
My nominees for the poty points
Maeda, Scales, Kuhn.
PS are we going to go tonto over the officials not awarding a pen for Diazen being kicked in the head but then awarding a FK to M’well a few seconds later for a fairly innocuous challenge a couple of meters from where Diazen had been fouled? If the challenge on the M’well player warranted a FK ‘shirley’ the same should apply to the challenge on Maeda which would have been a pen or am i missing something🤔

R2ngers statement due for release at 1pm.
“We are no longer prepared to allow other teams to field players from Ulster with Fenian names. Especially names like Oisin and Caolan who the authorities inexplicably allow to score against us”

I think they have a valid case! I hope their chairman mentions it at his meeting today with Maxwell.

I’m sure it will be top of his list 😃
I personally thought that Engels played well and deserved his mom. Would have liked to have seen Calum subbed and Arne dropped into his position.
A much better second half performance and after the second goal went in , the game was over.
Good to see Kuhn getting a run out and goal.
My top 3
Engels
Scales
Calum
ST TAMS
We are never gonna see how Bernardo,Engels and either McCowan or Hatate perform as a unit if BR keeps playing CalMac. Short-sighted,IMO. CalMac can’t last forever, and shouldn’t be expected to play the full game every time.
LiT
If I hadn’t seen the game and had to guess the result based on your posts, I’d think we got hammered. Sounds like everyone had a howler and we should just get rid of everyone and start again.
Are you hurting?
In the spirit of Christmas I’ve been thinking of something suitable for the hun painter to replace The Most Successful Club In The World With.
After much thought I’ve come up with:
Barron on the pitch and Barren in the trophy room.
Any better suggestions?
SK @ 12.38
They set up to defend.
We can be well off point and still have loads of possession.
It was only a competitive game in the M/well third.
First half we had lots of the ball but didn’t make the most of it.
Slippy / skiddy / fast paced pitch did not help.
AE and PB struggled to get into the game.
I see the Gers have went and totally fecked up Christmas for the bears …again!
12pts clear and the mulled wine isn’t even finished yet

Billy,
The most successful cheats in the world??
Unique angle up.
Enjoy.😊

Missed a trick yesterday by not putting my money where my mouth is.
Told the wee man we’d win and the saints would beat the Huns in the late game.
Celtic – Motherwell at home usually a canter and so it proved.
Motherwell – Absolutely no belief they can come to Parkhead and get anything.
St Mirren – Big strong team who are hard to break down. At the moment one of the league’s form teams.
Sevco – Rotten! Just an abysmal football team. Lately been scraping a few results by the skin of their teeth.
Was definitely a day to go to the bookies …bugger!
Unique angle up.
Enjoy😊
Players look pretty matter of fact when they score here.

BAD
Sod the bookies,I had a marvellous Carlsberg Boxing Day anyway!
Almost half way through the season and we have still only lost 4 league goals.
Maybe we have done this before and I’m just not remembering right, but it must be close to the best record we have ever had at this stage.
Also don’t think the defence gets anywhere near the praise they are due for it. I believe this is where big Kasper should get loads of thanks for what he has brought to the party.
Taking away the two second half goals we lost to Aberdeen in our home draw with them, means we have lost just two goals in the other 16 league games.
2 goals in 16 league games.
Two! 😯
Just incredible Celtic!!!
Bobby,
Glad you got to be in Paradise with the family again.
Best Xmas present a man can get!

Celtic’s kit deal with Adidas expires after next season. Rumours have surfaced that the parties have reached an agreement to extend, and as part of that extension, Celtic would be joining Adidias’ elite level teams, such as Real Madrid, Man United and Bayern Munich, with extra product lines and enhanced global marketing presence.Teams with elite status get to display the old Adidas trefoil on their kit, instead of the modern logo.
Now it is being reported that disaster is revamping its program and will create a second tier, called Regional Elite, which will feature teams like Roma, Boca Juniors, Newcastle and Celtic. There will still be extra products available, but the marketing will be more focussed nationally than internationally.
The Huns really can’t catch a break at the moment 😂😂😂😂
Noticed Zombiemedia has been down for a while. Wonder if PC’s tenure has rendered them speechless, or whether they are being true Sevconians and havent been paying their electric bill
🙂
Craig,
That’ll be the dressing room portrait coming down 🤣

I expect to see a lot of portraits in the recycling bin 🤣🤣
Ah, I do love some journalistic gymnastics…
“However, they also said Celtic should have been given a penalty earlier in the first half when Daizen Maeda‘s head collided with the foot of Tom Sparrow inside the six yard box.”
It’s almost like they’re hurting…

That is simply unbelievable!!!

Where did you see that,if you don’t mind? I want to c&p it for when I’m back south-they don’t believe the media bias without proof!
Apologies for double post. I thought I had done an edit.🤔🤣
Afternoon all,
Nice wee couple of hours in my local, The Greenhills Bar.
Anyway just as I was leaving, a guy we know, Tony, ( Celtic Supporter,) who sits at the Huns table, comes in and looks over to us at the tims table, and shouts at the top of his voice,
” Hello Buddies” !!!!!!!!!
Absolutely brilliant 😁😁😁
It was that good, I stayed for another 🍺
Definitely, quote of the day
