Top against bottom
The table toppers and table propper uppers meet this weekend at Parkhead in a fixture many will view as a formality. I fully understand, the Champions elect and head held high representatives at European footballs top table just hit a superior side for four goals without even hitting top gear. But it’s a funny old game, which merits a degree of caution.
From a wider perspective the game is really showing it’s unpredictability everywhere. Domestically there’s a great battle for second place and the emergence of a new force to be reckoned with, plus Hearts and Hibs have been replaced by Dundee United and Saint Mirren in the hunt for Europe, while down south has turned into a circus. Last year’s darlings (Ange and Pep) are on the verge of getting sacked, while two new blokes sit 1st and 2nd, making a mockery of Arteta building a team to win the title. The other team in red being talked about positively in good old Notts Forrest, Man Utd only garner negative news. The Champions League itself, far to predictable for far too long is throwing up some true outliers like ourselves, Brest FC, Lille, so although almost everyone finds the new Swiss format much more exciting, I expect power plays behind the scenes to offer the biggest more security. Alongside this the old Superleague organizers won a court case allowing them to offer it without penalties from National Associations nor UEFA for taking part, its back on the table, but its a slow burner. Enjoy this format while you can, but definitely enjoy the anything can happen aspect of the beautiful game.
On Sunday some more tinkering could certainly happen,,let’s face it, a home fixture against the bottom team is generally the ideal fixture to rest players, especially if the following fixture is a must not lose fixture. I like to think there would be a psychological impact of bringing the Twin Towers back for Ibrox, ready and rested. I also like to think it’s the 40 million pound game, remaining unbeaten there puts one hand on the title and subsequent spoils. It’s therefore natural to prioritize it whilst also showing another top flight opponent a healthy degree of respect on Sunday. I expect football operations to take this approach.
It’s often said a squad player needs a run of starts to come upto speed, step forward Yang once again. He’s not disgraced himself recently, it’s a home fixture meaning he won’t take pelters, and I personally wouldn’t mind Kuhn getting just 20 or 30 minutes then starting at Ibrox. I’d give the Korean another run out.
I’d certainly start Kyogo with the aim of getting a goal or more and topping up his confidence tank, and I feel similar about Reo. Let him find his mojo at home then unleash him away, in a ‘one off must not lose’ game he’s usually an asset, and one would wish him to enter that occasion ideally scoring twice on the bounce beforehand to seriously boost the ego he doesn’t display but must surely have.
As much as I would include Reo, Kyogo, and Yang, I also see the ideal fixture to rest a certain player. A certain Captain. It’s highly unlikely he’s fully rested, but surely hauling him off as soon as possible would be the aim. The standard 60 minute sub would be perfectly fine and understandable I suppose, by there’s a part of me that longs to see a midfield trio of Hatate, Engels, Bernardo start a game together.
I’ve been consciously laying off Big Arne recently, I explained my reasons before, but today I listened to a Podcaster wonder if Celtic had made a mistake in buying him. Not even the New Year, and being questioned. I know it’s the pricetag, but jeez if we as a collective have learnt anything over this blogs lifespan, surely it’s the lesson that we accept settling in time given not only Kuhn, Daizen, Matt, of recent times, but numerous examples from the past.
Hit me up this time next year and ask me if Arnes capture has been a success, given we are on course for the quadruple we targeted (3 trophies and knockout phase) and he’s played his part, the facts aren’t yelling out he’s a flop. My personal take is that he’s playing it safe, not getting risky until he truly feels one hundred percent comfortable and in control,,and that will come. Even in risk adverse mode I’ve seen enough to realize he’s a proper footballer, and I take much heart from his team orientated celebrations. I think he will prove himself in the Hoops when all is said and done, his potential will be unlocked, the lad will become a Bhoy.
I’d keep playing him if I were Brendan, he’s already been benched despite the pricetag which was a good lesson to learn along the road to maturing, give him the minutes needed to grow.
I do expect another home victory to round out what has been one hell of a year regarding our beloved club, but more than likely everything above shall be disregarded and the Ibrox11 will start with half eventually getting hauled off.

Very well done, everyone. And our grateful thanks.
It’s 9 months since we lost a league match.
12 months since we have lost a domestic game at Parkhead.
Still only lost 4 league goals in 17 matches.
We have had 14 clean sheets in those 17 league matches.
Our record recently isn’t just good, it is actually hard to believe! Hence why I’m never too bothered with how we are playing, I’m more interested in seeing how long we can keep this going.
The officials made a bad decision to annoy Brendan that day in March at Tynecastle.
14 clean sheets from 17 league games.
Not sure if that has ever been done before.
I’m sure about one thing though, it is absolutely incredible.
Good morning friends and a Big Happy Matchday Sunday to all who post or lurk on this fine site.
Don’t forget your Superbru predictions.

Looking forward to seeing Celtic in action later, hopefully ending the year unbeaten to further bolster those incredible stats.
This may not be the best Celtic team ever, but ,along with Anges two seasons, it’s part of an era that has seen us improve in quality and style. My hope is that our possession based style can be adapted to become a bit more dynamic in the middle to front areas, as opposed to being sprayed across the back to middle.
However, results indicate that BR knows more about this stuff than me.
Have a great day folks. HH
Nightmare – went to the fridge for the customary sqwer and like old mother hubbard the cupboard was bare. Son and grandson scoffed it yesterday alledgedly.
Ah well just need to be toast and tomato Spanish style I suppose.
My team for today:-
Kasper Ralston CCV Trusty Valle McCowan Calmac Engels Kuhn Kyogo Yang.
Think Brendan will want to finish 2024 with a victory for both the team and the support as a boost for the bigotdome on Thursday.
Season greetings to all our readers.

Morning all,
Hi Big Packy, I remember signing the soldier song, hail glorious st Patrick and its a grand old team to play great memories, especially when the jungle was in full voice
Hi Sol, I would like your thoughts on why referees don’t penalise players for infringements at corners, as I think if they booked them and awarded a penalty it may stop the constant fouling and shirt tugging
Bobby – Norwich was a 12.30 kick off so just the 5 fold for meant a very modest 11/1…
Talk of BR extending his contract for another 3 years.
It seems pretty obvious now that DD must have persuaded BR to return on basis the previous policy adopted by Celtic would not work to provide a team that could compete in the new CL where money was to be made.
It would be a long term project so not surprised an extension is on the cards, I even wondered if a non executive Board role might be a possibility.
It’s a pity PL was brought back as that muddied the waters as to the forward direction Celtic might take, but here we are with a more hopeful road in front of us, that frees us from the past.

My favourite Spanish breakfast.
Toasted pitufo or mollete covered with tomato paste with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt.
The Spanish equivalent of a roll and square as in ye cannae whack it.
Auldheid- agree re BR
AFTERNOON ALL AND JIM AND MAGUA, hi PERTH OZ BHOY yes those were the days👍👍 INQ4 great story but that wee packy sounds like a hun, and Young Heid no comment😎😎😎😎😎 another true story👍❤

Eventually we see where the future lies.
Qualifying for the CL knockout round will be seen as major progress for a team ranked 27th out of 36.
Our ambition should be, at the very least, to achieve a solid pot 2 position. Where the likes of Brugge and Shakhtar reside.
This will take time but continuity with BR at the helm is the way forward.
Ins and outs in the next two windows should prove this ambition.
Teams up…
Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers(C), Scales, Valle, Engels, Bernardo, Hatate, Yang, Kyogo, Kuhn
Subs…
Sinisalo, Taylor, Trusty, Palma, Idah, McCowan, Maeda, McGregor, Ralston
Well thank f### he’s finally dropped Calmac and Taylor, the blog should be a better read tonight! 🤪
Engels Hatate Bernardo mid field, Calmac on bench. Love it.
A win, no injuries and no Celtic red cards please.
Can’t remember the last time we had so many subs we could rely on.😊
Just in and saw the team
Engels, Bernardo, Hatate. Yessss
If that works as I expect it should we could be in for some fine entertainment and lots of goals 🤞🤞🙏🙏
I think Yang will be better on the left, be interesting to see how he and Valle combine. Very much hoping this midfield three can slip one or two through to Kyogo to run on to.
Loo!ing forward to seeing Arne spraying the ball around from a deeper position.
Hopefully Callum can get a full day off without too much disruption to the team
sorry to offend my cheshire buddy, but yang is a poor man’s neil McCann 😎😎hope you had a good christmas bob, AKA as frodshambhoy 👍❤

Yup. Everything takes time.
It’s another “we’ll see” time but I’m hopeful that again in time a new narrative will emerge.
Really positive start. Could be three up already!
Swirling wind is annoying.
Hope they’ve closed all the doors 😁

Boom!!
Kuhn 😁
Could open the floodgates
1-0 Kuhn
Playing great
2-0 to the mothers 😂
I’m liking this so far. Quicker midfield and more direct 👍
2 nil Mothers.
St Johnstone keeper wasting time 1-0 down
Might see attempts to score from inswinging corners. Especially in second half
How the Huns have managed to score 7 goals v Celtic this calendar year is beyond comprehension.
Fair to say the Huns are woeful
Cracking right foot shot from Valle.
He also keeps position on the left much more than Taylor who often wanders and leaves a big gap.
