Never Give A Sucker An Even Break

Morning,all.

There’s no doubt at all about the importance of today’s game at Ibrox, is there? We go into the game a whopping FOURTEEN points ahead after only eighteen games. If we can come out of that with a win which will see us seventeen points ahead at our halfway stage, we can certainly be thought to have a commanding lead in the title race.

Projecting that to the full 38 game season would mean finishing 34 points clear, but even that is largely irrelevant. After all, we finished 39 points ahead only eight seasons ago. It would hardly be uncharted territory. But never mind us, think of the effect a lead like that would have on the hordes across the city? They are already revolting (I know. I know.) and a right good doing might just tip them over the edge. Which is a pleasant thought. And a trip to Easter Road on Sunday to face a Hibs side which is finally starting to get results would not be a pleasant prospect for them. So the question is, do we drive another nail into their coffin today, or do we go easy on them? (Holds onion to eye.)

Football is a strange business. In most businesses, the object of the exercise is to provide a product which is so popular with the customers that it drives your competitors out of business altogether. Because then you can hoover up most if not all of those customers too, strengthening your own company to enable you to drive even more competitors out of business. You get my drift. The goal is monopoly, in effect. Football though is codependent, meaning there has to be some competition there to allow your company to win. The goal in football is for a loyal and growing fanbase which will allow you to be up there when the trophies are won, because doing so ensures the loyalty and growth of that fanbase. It’s why the likes of Liverpool have such huge numbers of fans which leads to more sponsorship income which gives them more money to spend so the team can win more trophies and attract more fans. And so the cycle continues-unless the wheels come off, like at Man Utd at the moment. Clubs would cry if there were no worlds left to conquer-because they had driven the competition to the wall. In a business sense, it makes no sense at all. But in a football sense, it makes all the sense in the world.

But there is one golden rule of business which applies at all times, and it doesn’t matter which business you are in either. Never give a sucker an even break. It is in our hands today, we have a chance to deliver a blow to our most loathed rivals from which they could take an age to recover. And in those hands we hold most of the cards.

We are going into the game with a full squad. One which has had little more than the most minor of hiccups all season, if we ignore a horrible night in Dortmund! One which only lost two games in the whole of the calendar year just ended-and we were bloody cheated at Tynecastle as we know. We have a manager who is completely trusted by his own bosses, his players and the fans, a man in total control of his destiny.

R2ngers on the other hand?

They have real problems. Igamame up front is their only striker in any decent form, and he is very hit and miss. Let’s hope for the latter today. Cerny is struggling due to too much game time. Danilo and Dessers are just struggling. In midfield, they can rely for a while on the thuggery of Raskin and Barron, while Hagi will flatter to deceive while fading completely the minute he gets a dull one from AJ or CCV. At the back, they are in all sorts of disarray.

Butland is out, and likely to be for a while. As is Tavernier. Souttar is still absent, while Balogun is more reliant on his zimmer frame by the day and is carrying an injury. Castlewirock (a wee reminder of home for SOLKITTS) is still absent from the left back role, and Yilmaz has the same problem with too many minutes as Cerny. These are not the kind of issues anyone wants going into a must-win match against runaway leaders in any country. And least of all in Scotland.

So do you want my prediction for the day ahead? Well, only a fool predicts the out come of an O** F*** game (said Jock) so you won’t get one from me, I’m afraid. I’ve just explained though how we hold all the cards going into the match, and the selection problems facing Clement (who can’t even consult his sports science team, cos they are in the huff!) I’ve told you why the game is important to us, but I’ve also explained why it is more important to them. They’re my only concern.

What dark arts will be conjured up to enable a R2ngers victory, one which will give them the boost of reducing the gap to a measly eleven? Will the kick off time of 3pm on a public holiday in front of a 100% hostile and probably pissed up support (hardly helped by selling beer in marquees outside the ground, btw) endanger our playing and coaching staff? Will the officials be entirely faithful to their chosen profession?

There are still some factors which can come into play on the day, totally unique to the occasion. But I’ll end as I started, which is how I hope we approach the game and deal with all the above. Never give a sucker an even break.

Last year, our charity drives raised over £4000 for deserving causes. You are truly a wonderful collective, giving selflessly to others in need.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The bulk of the money was split fairly evenly between our two nominated causes, which were
Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust and Blood Cancer UK.

New Year, New Cause! From 1st January till 30th June, we will switch our attentions to raising funds for another source of wonderful work on behalf of those who need it most.

MacMillan Cancer Care

Once again, the donations page has been set up for us by CHALMERSBHOY, and my grateful thanks to him for doing this and so much more.

This yesterday from ATHINGOFBEAUTY deserves a repost.

Happy new year to you all. I just wanted to take the opportunity of the new year to thank and praise Chalmersbhoy for all the charity work he does for the site. Considering we are not the biggest Celtic blog, to raise over 4k for charity is quite a feat. Thanks also to all who contribute but these initiatives need a driving force and we’re very fortunate to have Chalmersbhoy at the wheel. More power to you sir.

****

I’d like to second those sentiments. While MAHE and I had tried several charity initiatives over these few years, they were bloody useless. They lacked the drive and focus that CHALMERSBHOY provided. So thanks, mate. Really well done. And thank you also to you and 16 ROADS for your continued sponsorship of the competitions, and to TWISTY for his in the recent past.

👍👏☘️

Morning all, the bullish confidence I had earlier in the week has predictably given way to game day nerves. Any win will do, a statement win would be tremendous but being a couple clear when a ridiculous number of minutes get added on would do just nicely.

CalMac talking about playing through the press. Yep,that’s how we normally do it. But is today the day for something different? They always press us high, and try to mark him completely out of the game, stop him from performing his receive-pass-receive-pass role as we try to bring the ball forward.

But with their problems at the back? And our pace up front?

How about receive-lump it wide, over their mid and out to our wingmen?

Today, on paper , looks straightforward. However, these games at Ibrox especially, are rarely straightforward and I don’t like teams going into a game with a nothing to lose attitude – all or nothing approach. The Huns are that team, written off by all all sundry, even their loyal laptop poodles.

We’ve been that team, mind big Sammy Sunday?? Exactly.

As such, a defeat today would not surprise me in the slightest. I hope not, but over the course of a 38 game season, it wouldn’t be an upset or a disaster, just a blip on the way to a Treble.

I’m trying not to get carried away.
We are better than them and they are wounded. It should be easy 🤔🤔

Then again they have pushed us in recent games and we have beaten them with a depleted squad when logic said it would be easy for them. I also see Cerny as a big threat.

I agree we should stop messing about with short or square passes at the back and hit it long over their back line. We have the pace to make that work. 🙏🙏🤞🤞

Good morning, friends.
I read an incredible stat yesterday which I’ve just checked out for myself and it is indeed true. Who has scored Celtic’s first goal of each recent New Year? And always in the opening 5 minutes! Step forward Daizen Maeda. 2022 on his debut v Hibs. 2023 at Ibrox. And last year away to St Mirren.
Bet responsibly if at all!

Going to be a totally new experience today, and one I haven’t encountered for a January Glasgow Derby before?

Thankfully I live in a hun scum zombies free zone, so bragging rights isn’t available for myself Thankfully.
This Glasgow Derby, won’t possibly be within our top 10 games of importance, over the course of this season, regarding the result?
So in many ways, it can be regarded as just another ordinary SPFL match?
Might well be in the minority with such an outlook at present, but would class our performance levels as very important all the same?

Today could be regarded as what is going to be the outcome for the Belgium waffler clown?
Already got the sympathy vote on his side in that regards.
Yet as I hold no interest in the goings on within hun scum, it’s only a matter of whether it suits ourselves best, for him staying or going upon entertainment value, he provides for ourselves?

Yet for ourselves, I believe Rodgers would still want to put the performance of the league cup final right moreso Today, along with our players.
Would also regard today’s game, as a decent preparation work out for ourselves, with far bigger CL matches in waiting?
With expecting the scum to apply the very physical approach in order to try and stop ourselves, then our use of the football with our movement will be key for ourselves today.
So a similar approach is required from ourselves, as one that’s required within a CL match, is what I expect Rodgers to be looking for from our team today imo?

Ange had the “We never stop” mantra installed into our team.
Rodgers has replaced that, with getting the performance right and the result should take care of itself?
We still are the team with far higher quality within it, far higher levels of footballing intelligence, well capable of playing for the full 90 minutes with the squad depth.
Still room for our clinical edge to be improved upon still?
So we get all them qualities right today, then a very unhappy hun scum awaits?
That would be a fantastic start to the year for all celts worldwide, and one Rodgers and our players will only be to happy to keep providing the likes for ourselves imo?

We turn up — we win.
We don’t turn up — could get messy.

We are due a big performance — SLCF was 30 minutes good / OK and 60 minutes of low energy dross plus 30 minutes of fart in a trance sleepwalking.

Interesting to see what team is put out?

GT vs AV
CMcG vs his patchy form.
AE vs his confidence fairy.

Points chasm means it is half the game it was going to be a week ago.
No pressure on us — does this then generate laziness or does our class come to the fore.

Heart — the game is ours to lose.
Head — Mental crap shoot / Ludges a-go-go / wild “honest” mistakes.

Happy New Year to you.

I would like to clarify something and leave it at that.

When a perception based on assumptions is posted it is not an ego trip to provide information that might change that perception, not just to the author but anyone who shares it.

In doing so it is unfortunate that I had to provide information I had because of my involvement with Celtic and SFSA since 2013 as that opens me up to judgement.

I am very aware that when I say “I” it looks like ego but it isn’t.

It’s simply an attempt to provide a clearer picture in hope perceptions change.

Funny thing is that I agree with the picture TMG has painted re Celtic’s strategy and that SFSA did not make a better fist on the 5WA.

Can we leave it there please. I’ve had my say.

Just a little side note.
A win for ourselves today, along with a victory for the sheep?
Would drop the scum back down to third place in the SPFL.
Now that would bring about some amount of entertainment value for ourselves

Quick question on your viewpoint regarding our engagement with the SPL in 2009 / 2011 — namely our lack of engagement to win them?

Where did this viewpoint start / what issues or info started you off?
I have my own views on this — just a case was it local of strategic?

PL production — easy life / paying back favours?
DD production — EPL dream was easier with them in tow?
Was our last proposal to the EPL really in 2011?
Seems a bit late but I defer to others with better gossip.

Saving TFOD1.0 — I think they came very close to pulling it off.
SDM had other issues to deal with so others took the lead.
