(Double) Normal service resumed
Celtic win at home, R2ngers drop points away, I suppose that’s just the way of the world these days, and as such yesterday’s set of results cannot be considered abnormal.
I had egg on my face reading the team selection, Brendan did indeed make some statements and several of Thursdays starters found themselves on the bench, which is a lot wiser than singling out just the one name. The weather had some impact as the stadium saw more empty seats than usual, but I was happily in my chair awaiting kickoff rather than the usual 5 or 10 late.
That proved somewhat fateful.
Within 60 seconds I was absolutely furious and yelling for a red card to be produced.
A deliberate foul prevented a goal scoring opportunity, the textbook professional foul, and the non decision was later compounded by the fact it was exactly Maeda and Kuhn who linked up for the opener.
Frazer was getting skinned, there’s no one alive could doubt Maeda outpaces him over half a pitch, and once it goes 2 on 1 the odds of bulging the net dramatically increase.
Now the ref had a get-out clause, he wasn’t the last man, so I begrudgingly accept there will be no dismissal, but not even a yellow was already taking the biscuit and the game had barely started.
The current rules of football failed us on the day, and if that’s the case it needs modified. You can stop a goal chance if your mates close enough, but not by yourself? Wait a minute, stopping a goal chance fullstop ought to be deemed a professional foul with an automatic red as a consequence.
If anyone caught the Spurs news, they were victims of rulebook technicality after an obvious handball was allowed due to the phase of play.
A handball should be a bloody handball, a foul with no discussion. At least twice in one weekend the current rules weren’t fit for purpose, and thats plain evidence that the reality on the pitch isn’t always matched by the guidelines. Over to you UEFA.
Despite the above, the first ten minutes were enjoyable, Callums rousing huddle speech had worked and Celtic played with intent, I counted 4 chances created, witnessed a good tempo, and a much better attitude. There was a clear instruction to up the number of crosses, sensible with Adam on the pitch, sensible overall although I personally wanted some shots from distance also. Everything seemed rosey enough, but that early momentum peetered out, we became lethargic and content with meaningless possession to the extent that the 30 minute mark was greeted by a chorus of boo’s from those (rightfully) wishing a better afternoon’s entertainment.
I felt we were missing Kyogo, he loves getting on the end of crosses, Adam wasn’t getting on the end of much at all.
I would like to say these boo’s sparked the team into life which resulted in our opening goal minutes later, but the truth is having our wingers unleashed on a quick break results in a goal the majority of times, this was simply another such occasion. Kuhn and Maeda compliment each other, both must be delighted with the others attributes, it should have been their second successful combination but we all gladly accepted this legitimate opener.
The scene was set, around 60 minutes of turning the screw, bombarding them late-on with benched players carrying a point to prove, and we did turn the screw just before halftime when one of our very dangerous corners was turned home for a first ever goal by Trusty. Despite not being the greatest game, our delivery had been top drawer, at one stage I thought Arne was about to score direct from a corner, a set piece goal and a first for Big Austin was a pleasing way to end the half and set up a second 45 full of further intrigue.
Although we marched down the tunnel 2 goals to the better we were clearly losing out in one certain area, the art of timewasting. They were embarrassing, it was absolutely cringe worthy, and the latest donkey off the SPL production line clearly had no inclination to deal with the unsavoury issue.
As myself and tens of thousands other settled back down for the second half, the unthinkable happened.
And that’s where this match report ends, most Tims (there’s more outside the stadium than inside) didn’t get to see the 2nd half as the biggest blackout since the Blitz just happened to hit that particular grid at that particular time.
I’ve a couple of points to make on the issue.
Yes, it happens.
And believe it or not I’m well familiar with that occurrence, the sudden loss of power followed seconds later by the backup generator kicking in and restoring normality.
I don’t want to go over the top here, but the safety assured by such back-up generators is priceless, and I’ll go a step further and congratulate whoever is responsible for the mandate, whether SPL or UEFA or just plain old government legislation.
Going to a game should never be dangerous, 50 thousand scrambling in the dark cannot help but be dangerous.
I brought up two fouls earlier, last week Scotland’s top flight delivered two safety issues. One each for the nation’s biggest teams, very different but still falling under Health and Safety.
If that pound coin was an inch higher Arne Engels career could be in the balance and Celtic can kiss foreign talent goodbye,,Hampden and Ibrox clearly failed their live safety test last week.
Celtic clearly passed theirs with an A+.
You might find that meaningless rambling and I admit I had never even thought of what happens when that whole area loses power, and I never imagined it would be during a game, but as someone who has friends and family in the stadium it was reassuring to find out elsewhere on social media that (double) normal service had been resumed within seconds at Parkhead even though the majority of Tims lost 45 minutes of football missing out on the 3rd goal as CelticTV and all the other bahooky sites got scrambled. Small beans in the grand scheme of things, but we weren’t looking like losing from the half of football we got.
Big Hamish was happy with his earlier than planned walk because after 20 minutes of refresh I just gave up.
It’s the first time in our site history we can only offer up a half game review, and we beg your understanding.
If the past week taught me anything, it’s that when I’m next in Scotland bringing my young daughter to Celtic Park for the first time is more likely given the ‘peace of mind’ the trip would involve given the fresh facts.
I’ll gladly lose 45 minutes of 44 legs kicking a piece of synthetic leather around to know my little girl and everyone else is safe when they enter our footballing home.
We bounced back on paper, we extended the lead at the top still into double digits, KT to sign,,the first month of the year might indeed end well.

With regard to BRs post match comments that created a negative response from some; watching his interview told me anyway that BR’s view of the meaning of support ie
What does it really mean to support someone?
to agree with and give encouragement to someone or something because you want him, her, or it to succeed:
Is at odds with what support means to some of the support who took exception to his words.
The problem is that if players think the support they get is not driven by wanting the players to succeed, but to keep the supporters themselves happy rather than the players efforts to deliver success being appreciated, especially when players efforts are delivering the success the support want, then a rift is created that has an effect on how much emotional effort a player puts in if he does not feel he is being supported in a way that makes him want to please?
From that perspective BR was right to speak out to prevent the kind of division that not feeling appreciated can cause.
He was quite clear that to win games under his leadership required the right kind of support for 90mins as defined above.
What would we prefer the occasional turgid but successful football or no success as result of not providing the kind of support that players as human beings appreciate and react to.
Be careful what we wish for.
Auldheid
(What does it really mean to support someone?)
Does paying money for a season ticket when the country is on lockdown count?
Does paying a large amount in a league with poor quality ?
Is enduring dull entertainment in a frigid environment with poor services?
Millionaire’s should be careful about biting the hand that feeds.
BR is guilty of following the ownership’s disdain shown towards the support.
As they often remind us they are a business.
In a fragile environment where change can come suddenly they should be more aware of their poor customer service from a privileged position.
Re Greg Taylor….
If he wants to stay (and quotes from his camp indicates he does) and the gaffer wants to keep him then is it too simple to suggest his camp are asking for too much money? This is likely Greg’s last big contract so I don’t blame him for asking for whatever he is asking for but is he worth, for example 30K per week?
Morning Bhoys have been reading back and I agree with comments regarding BR about the support, I think we as supporters have the right to criticise, I know people will say I’m not a real supporter as I don’t go to games but I think the managers comments were completely out of order
Mahe / BMCUP
I think you might need to call Social Work …
Somebody in the WhatsApp group needs to have a word.
GT in this footballing environment is worth £10K pw plus generous bonuses.
For us he is not a starting LB / he is not a back-up LB — he is a squad player.
Good to have around / can fill in regarding a number of roles.
However he is nowhere near the standard we need as a LB.
If there is some sort of willie waving going on at P/head over GT’s new contract then we are in a bad place — worse than I thought and that has been on the slide over the past 6 weeks.
Celtic in a bad place? 😂😂
Mitch,
I’m going to take this opportunity to say cheerio, just in case I’m not here when people’s patience finally runs out.
Spending every waking hour on here trying to be cute with folk was only ever gonna end one way.
I hope you find something more constructive to do with your time, as this doesn’t seem like something you are very good at 👍
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Greg wants to stay? Ok, the bench is over there, get comfy!
Support should be unconditional but not uncritical.
BR is in no position to insist otherwise.
You’d think that after the result of The Old Firm game he’d have been a little less arrogant.
Free Pie seat gossip from yesterday — not seen on CTV.
Seemingly at the final whistle GT shot up the tunnel pronto.
BR was in hot pursuit and both missed the walk around the park.
The heart to heart chat then coloured BR’s later media work.
Also the groaning in the North Stand was seemingly focused on GT.
Backwards passing when there was a more challenging pass available.
Again CTV did not provide that level of detail in its coverage.
Starting to get messy.
Mitch,
Right to the bitter end, eh? 😂

I doubt I’m the only person sick fed up of your constant snide remarks, etc. As I’m on holiday,a long overdue visit to see my family back home,I haven’t been monitoring the site as closely as usual. Last night being a perfect example.
The site doesn’t have many rules,so they shouldn’t be too difficult to follow. Everyone else does just fine.
I’ll use this as an opportune moment to remind you that your most recent temporary suspension was your final warning. Next time is permanent with no appeal.
MAHE
Good to know that bringing the wee yin into the Celtic family is back on the agenda, mate.
GT is “for sale” to the highest bidder for his services.
If that is In the MLS or Zagreb(?!) then he has a decision to make.
He is not in a position to dictate how much he is worth to Celtic. No matter how many medals he has or what offer he has from elsewhere.
KT is available from Arsenal. He has a decision to make. Stay in the EPL on wages close to current or accept an undoubtedly lower bid from Celtic.
His desire to return will be a deciding factor.
If elements of the support are glorifying a return of KT so what?
As long as they are not singing GT gtf at the same time.
Mahe, don’t mention KT, it will set an already crabbit Mr Rodgers off on another rant.
BR is fond on the January break that we usually have in Scotland, but not this season. A cold and wintry training ground awaits, not somewhere warm and sunny. Another day at work, like the rest of us.
The reports of Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic have been consistent, so where are they coming from ? Celtic, Arsenal, or KT’s agent ? It has got to be at least one of those three.
Greg Taylor’s advisers have possibly got their tactics wrong. If Celtic have made him their best final offer, and his camp have rejected it on the basis that a better offer exist elsewhere, then fair enough, just accept that better offer elsewhere, if one actually exists. Now the most recent narrative is that GT wants to stay. From the outside looking in, it appears that Celtic hold all the aces here. As ever, the devil will be in the detail, and we are not privy to the detail. And that also applies to any negotiations regarding Tierney.
Cheer up Brendan, you manage one of the world’s greatest sporting organisations, and get paid around eight grand a day for that privilege. Those who populate the stadium, or tune in from afar, are not so privileged.

No snide remarks from me — just pushback against the board apologists / IT kid on wannabees that seem to clog up the board when criticism is offered against any part of the team or element of the club.
A view point that CTV is not fit for purpose and let the support down badly yesterday was seemingly enough to open the dam gates and flood the blog with screeds of pious tripe.
If that is where you think this board needs to be then that is your decision but please do not patronise me with your comments about everybody else getting along just fine — closer reading will highlight how the purveyor of pious tripe is winding everyone up sooner or later.
Thursday is still raw for me but the holidays are over and reality returns.
So to repeat no snider snash from me just pricking the odd ego.
The Holy City phrase — “As big as Jupiter” — springs to mind.
If pious screeds is your bag then own it and embrace it.
Not for me.

“IT kid on wannabees”
Exactly the kind of snide comment I referred to. Don’t fucking push it.
Looking for a bit of info. Myself and Mr ATOB are staying overnight in Edinburgh tomorrow night. Does anyone know if you can park at ingliston park and ride overnight? I don’t really want to drive into the city centre and am not wanting to get the train? If the answer is no to ingliston any other suggestions would be welcome.
Strikes me a blog, particularly a mainly anonymous one, is the ideal place to wind people up.
It’s human nature I guess to try to come across as assertive and/or omniscient. Strokes the ego, I suppose. So I get the motivation.
What I don’t get is the persistence, as most comments made are generally ignored.
When one disengages with the obvious rancour or zealous proselytism it can be quite informative at times.
And like the folk to be avoided in the pub, easily dismissed by scrolling past.
Personally, I wouldn’t be the biggest fan of the character of Rodgers, even moreso upon his return.
For clarity, I was never against his return, especially as I always felt he was ran out of the club, for being to successful, where an agenda of keeping the scum in business was a better option imo?
Yet believe that Rodgers was and still is, a better upgrade upon Ange, especially when progressing better within CL, which is becoming a bigger requirement for ourselves, especially with the scum becoming less relevant in every passing season now?
The main difference between the two, would possibly be there styles for the CL imo?
So we potentially have a situation where Ange suits ourselves better for SPFL and Rodgers for CL, with there outlook and styles of how they choose to set up our team?
What annoys me about Rodgers outburst yesterday towards our support, even more so with himself claiming to be a supporter also?
Is he knows only to well, about the amount of shite we have to endure throughout the years within Scottish football.
Even before his rant, we heard about the Belgium waffler going to tell his players to openly cheat, has Rodgers developed memory loss, with those actions openly on display at that kip, in recent times?
And himself as manager a victim of it also?
Using Taylor as an example to direct anger towards our support, when Taylor has and continues to snub Rodgers with his intentions?
That isn’t upon our support, and would be disgusted if any of our support was to abuse Taylor as a player in any way whatsoever for ourselves?
So transfer window open, and Rodgers has done nothing more than spout about quality over quantity within the market?
So is Tierney a quality upgrade upon Taylor?
And who exactly would want such a potential deal in the making, especially as it comes with split opinions within our support?
Rodgers style of play, like Ange also, evolves around our captain calmac?
Course it’s expected for opposition teams to target him, and even st mirren done so yesterday early doors, along with a growing number of teams now, which is becoming easier for them, with age starting to catch up upon calmac now?
This is an issue starting to develop, yet we haven’t seen anything really to suggest what the solution might be?
Possibly have to wait until calmac gets an injury after being ran into the ground?
Still if we are getting over ran and outnumbered in the midfield areas, we have to continue to clap such decisions taken, because we know nothing and the know all knows best, yet does nothing about the situation?
Yet the most demeanor within his comments, I thought was towards kuhn imo?
Trying to take the claims of how much he himself has improved him as a player, but still has some distance to go as a player still?
Kuhn has been the best player in Scottish football by some distance this season, and a show of ignorance shown towards kuhn from his manager, wasn’t a look I enjoyed seeing whatsoever?
Like I said earlier, I wasn’t the greatest fan of the character of Rodgers before his outburst yesterday, even moreso now, especially when it wasn’t warranted imo?
And trying to cause trouble within our support, after laying down to the scum, isn’t a good look upon himself at present?
And if he’s starting to think he’s bigger than our club, then he can go and pack his suitcase for all I care, but he will never be welcomed back for sure?
A t o b
You have a few options.
P&R at Ingliston and tram or Hermiston and variety of buses.
Alternatively you can drive further in and park in the Corstorphine area on street. No restrictions.
From there every bus goes to the city centre.
I would not recommend driving into the city.
Parking can be in excess of £6 an hour in places.
A football career can be short in employment.
Celtic have made GT an offer.
If GT has a better offer elsewhere he is entitled to accept.
When we signed him from Kilmarnock I felt we overpaid.Usual higher premium paid for being fenian buyer.
Greg takes a fair bit of stick from some of the support.
He always gives his all so can’t fault his effort.?
In all honesty he obviously follows coaching direction or he wouldn’t be picked or asked to stay.
Defensively I feel we could do better.
But he has been a good servant so I wish him well.
Just watched Brendans after match press conference and can’t say that I disagree with what he said. Our home support in part has been very critical and subdued.
Never heard any Bois personally, but did here a lot of groans.
On the KT chants , never heard them either, but if true , that’s just crass.
No edit available.
Surprised Brendan never mentioned the stadium being half empty with 10 mins to go.
Help ma boab !
I heard a little commotion but couldn’t say if it was around the half hour.
I assumed some fans had seen something around the dugout side.
It wasn’t our standard of play which wasn’t sparkling but neither was it poor.
St Mirren, in their cheating way being allowed to impact that.
As was the referee.
As did the linesmen to the extent Calmac had to bawl them out.
It wasn’t for Taylor as it wasn’t over his side ( although he had three sides )
It could have been for AJ as it was over his but could have been for Trusty who was indecisive, Engels, who didn’t drive when he had the chance or Adam who couldn’t get on the end of anything and had reached tank empty on closing down.
The power cut also affected the lights on London Road ( even more chaotic) which maybe people knew, plus some travelling big distances with the threat of snow.
Game done, three points, a good and important win.
Colder in the ground than out !
Rebus, I’ll get back to you on yesterday’s debate.

So because BR is looking for support for himself and his players that does not align with how some supporters view support we should get rid of him?
One thing that BR asked for in his interview that has not been commented is on is he asked for trust.
Do you know what happens to any relationship when trust is absent?
Separation.
Is that in Celtic’s long term interest to get rid of a manager because we cannot handle being horsed by R2ngers?
I was told once to show more fortitude when faced with adversity and if the current position of Celtic is one of adversity then God help us if real adversity returns.
You mention the financial support given to keep Celtic alive.
Why was that given? For Celtic or for supporters to have a team to follow once pandemic passed? For Celtic’s benefit or for the support or both. It wasn’t all one way.
If folk don’t like the type of football on offer then stop paying for it until The Board listen to what supporters want.
I have seen no evidence of that kind of action at any time when there was cause to act.
Plenty of keyboard hammering but no action.
Support isn’t money, it can be part of support, but real support is encouragement to help others get through bad times and I just don’t see there are bad times at Celtic just because of side or back passes.
As regards tomorrow who knows what it will bring? Who foresaw a 4 0 horsing at Ibrox?
It’s not adversity that is the problem what matters is how we respond to it.
So far if what is being shown by some of the supporters is an example then we are not handling it well and who could have predicted that before KO last Thursday?
ATOB- I don’t think you can park overnight at Ingliston, although you can do it at a couple of other tram stations

Thats at least the second time you’ve said we got beat 4-0 at Ibrox. Can’t be just a typo then!

Did he not potentially cause the separation in the first instance, with his decision making at that shithole?
Haven’t seen or heard anyone claim that Rodgers should loose his job whatsoever, especially in a result business, he is doing a fantastic job to date, yet again.
But can you totally trust someone who is well capable of telling porkies also?
And if he wants to cause separation within our support, which is suspicious raised by his actions taken now, can he really be trusted, when his track record would suggest otherwise?
ATOB
There’s a lot of free parking on the streets opposite Kwik-Fit on Corstorphine Road. From there it’s a short bus journey (or a walk) to the city centre.

Once again the blog tactic of accusing people of something they never said.
show me where I said get rid of Brendan?
I like Taylor (for his efforts) and Rodgers BUT the fans pay their wages. They are professionals and have to be thick skinned, we all have had to put up with work things we don’t like. Also thought he was a bit odd with his Kuhn comment. Rodgers doesn’t act on impulse, he is calculating. Could he have another motive?
Putting aside yesterday’s CTV issue (not their fault) I have experienced streaming problems since their latest upgrade and I am using a new computer and iPad, the service could most definitely be improved.

Did I say that?
I should have made it clearer I was talking to the blog in general about what the wrong kind of support could lead to. Apologies it was not meant to be personal.
I took the opportunity both you and Johno’s post provided for others to see context to make that general point to the blog. I will have to make that clearer if I remember. I have done on other occasions.
Do you disagree with what I said about possible consequences?
Put yourself in a players position. He does his best to provide football success and is delivering but there is no appreciation of that upside, what would you do?
Players are human. Getting paid lottsa money does not change that. Humans thrive on appreciation. You must experience being appreciated in coaching kids.
What is your reaction if a parent does not appreciate the time you put in? Happy? Annoyed?
If Kieran Tierney does return to Celtic, either in this window or the summer, I would be greatly encouraged if he decided to call time on his national team involvement, even at the age of 27.
His last major set back occurred in Germany during the Euro’s, a very significant hamstring injury. I hope the thought has already crossed his mind in any case.
Being fit to play a minimum of 40 games a season should be KT’s focus for the remaining years of his career.

What did the small print if any say about conditions of purchase?
Are events outside CTV control mentioned?
Edit.
I just remembered that apart from one meeting with CTV techies I had many entertaining meetings over a coffee with an ex CTV pioneer who knows the all about what is needed to build a streaming service, has no time for PL and knows why the required investment has lagged.
The power cut suggests some investment in protecting streaming from a 20 or 30 break to fix is needed. It wouldn’t stop a break but would speed up recovery once power restored which might mean a back up in house generator supply for CTV in particular.
Outside of a power break there are lots of issues that cause buffering or pixelating and the cuase lies beyond Celtic and with the unique set up each user has.
Like not enough bandwidth from a user’s Internet Service Provider or enough memory or cache full.
To be clear this added info is for the blog in general not aimed at you personally Bada.

===
That is one unlikely option but my point is that he and his players when it comes to contract renewal might seek to join another club where they feel more appreciated for what they deliver rather than criticism when they deliver.
Now if that happened who would be to blame?
I think BR is acting to protect him and his players and so protect the Celtic that supporters love and support.
That is how I would act to protect my team. In fact in my working days I was seen as a scapper who fought for his team by the team.
Different experiences produce different views. It is in sharing those views that a greater understanding emerges.
On being a scrapper I remember one grumpy high level adviser complainer who went OTT being challenged.
Result was crate of booze for the team as an apology from the complainer.
Boy did they feel appreciated.

When BR asks for trust in his approach but it is not given because others think they know better than him how to manage a professional football team is that not as equally arrogant of those who think they know better?
Life is a two way street.
What is the complaint being made?
That we constantly play turgid football in spite of all the evidence in goal difference and points and we want no turgid football so change
Or
All that success means nothing if that same football which is a mix of turgid and brilliance during games as well as over a number of games means we get horsed once by R2ngers and that rules BR’s approach unacceptable?

Any football manager who doesn’t expect or cannot tolerate criticism is in the wrong job.
BR is a good manager, but he has his limitations. And going all Violet Elizabeth about petty stuff is one of them.
