Hail, Hail, the Champs are here
Winning a Cup isn’t an ending, for the defending Champions must attempt to retain it again, which starts tonight.
Unusually it’s an all top flight draw for this early third round clash, but it’s at home and not only that it’s a night game, a 5.30 kickoff under the famous Parkhead floodlights that have witnessed many a fantastic team. At the risk of repeating myself, there’s something special about watching football when darkness falls elsewhere, which probably has something to do with the extra couple of hours the supporters spend in the boozer, reveling in each other’s company and letting the anticipation build.
The opposition is timely and all, many including myself just don’t like Derek, and the morale boost delivered by battering another SPL team would be much larger than simply besting a Buckie Thistle or Airdrieonians for example. There’s an argument to be made that Celtic are actually in a good situation tonight,,,a win brings us into Wednesdays game confident, a loss would call for a severe reaction for Young Boys which is a much more important Cup.
I expect no such loss however, Kilmarnock as opponents or not. I like to believe anyone rocking upto Celtic Park on a Saturday night gets sent home with their tale between their legs.
One reason I’m confident is that unlike the league we must win which means playing to win and not being nonplussed, and unlike recently we have the whole team available for selection bar James, a single injury shouldn’t affect the odds.
I also shouldn’t discount the pressure to perform well and having players cement their place in the team for next weeks biggest game of the season yet, a game all will wish to be involved in. Besides, they’ve had a nice three days off, playing Tuesday rather than Wednesday/Saturday.
I’m tempted to speculate that having drawn with the lesser team in Glasgow recently, having watched Dundee take something from the game after fully going for it against the Hoops, Killie will actually go for it also, and why not? They knock us out a quarter perhaps semi final isn’t beyond the realms of possibility, plus in a one off/winner takes all game anything can happen. I hope they do attack us, it’s their last hope of silverware, it’s seemingly our Achilles heel,,,but we are deadly on the fast counter attack especially with Kuhn and Maeda ready to rock.
Given the above I do expect Hatate to start, he strikes me as almost made for Cup ties rather than a consistent performer over the long haul. He can win a game with a great pass or hard shot from distance,,if I were Brendan I would tell him if he plays well tonight he starts on Wednesday. Two good games in a row isn’t beyond him, half a dozen is.
I also expect Arne to start these next couple, it was moronic to bench the player achieving consecutive MOTM awards, the player coming into fine form after adapting, it was telling the Belgian hit the shot that earned the point last time out.
The rest pick themselves but I’ll say this now, if GT looks suspect tonight, then Liam at left back come Wednesday would be my decision.
Ideally we wrap this up by the hour mark.
Saturday night at the movies, a Saturday night show?
Sounds good to me.

Very surprised at Trusty starting.
Still seems to be struggling with the physicality of the Scottish game, but opting for the line-up expected for young boys on Wednesday taken.
McCowan didn’t deserve to be dropped/benched. Hatate and Calumn were far poorer than he was.
Trusty still first choice makes a mockery of ‘You’re only as good as your last game’
In the Creighton just like old times…. this will be two in a row ‘live’ games and hopefully the hat trick on Wednesday for YB🤞
Just phoned Brendan.
He said well done Leggy 👍
I said, remember Wednesday !!!! 😁😁😁
COYBIG 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
I hope Hatate has shook off his last bad performance, he’s become this seasons Ntcham.
Looks like KT on Arsenal bench again.
COSYCORNERBHOY
Enjoy the game-and the company!
Going for the hat-trick on Wednesday?
Very surprised with that team selection.
We have probably our most important game in years on Wednesday night and we’re playing our strongest team in a Scottish Cup tie.
I don’t get it
Cmon Reo, put on a show.
Darwin Nunez scores 2 late goals for Liverpool. That guy has all the skill in the world. When he just reacts, he is great. When he has time to think, he messes up.
No Jonny Kenny or academy players on the bench
Do my Amazing Kreskin … 72% possession … 6 attempts … 3 on goal …. 1-2 score
Early goal for the good ghuys would be most welcome and hopefully set the scene for a dominant high scoring win but it’s cup football so just get in the hat for the next round.
MIKEINTORONTO
Very true about Nunez, but he is the reigning crossbar challenge champion. I think he hit the woodwork fourteen times last year. If,that word again, half of them had gone in,nobody would have been giving him a hard time.
Only 8 subs listed?
Has Kenny or Palma’s name been omitted by accident?
HH
8 subs only, both teams
In the next round you’re allowed 11 subs (You can use 5 from the 11 named)
Great to see a Celtic forward not shitting themselves at a 50/50.
Unlucky not to get a penalty too.
Attack looking dangerous, defence looking nervous.
Kuhn looking very sharp
Should be 2 up
Could be 3-1 already!!
CalMac from range!
Goallllll – Calmac from 20 yards.
Quality Calmac.
1-0. The captain.
INIQUITOUS IV will have him in his POTY three just for shooting.
Brilliant goal, quick, incisive, perfect. Just keep doing that
1-0 Callum
BBC stats show Kilmarnock 64% possession
Another sitter missed.
This time Kyogo
This game should be finished
Kyogo just misses from 18 yards, but should have scored.
64% 😅🤣😂they’ve been in our box once!
There’s the badgers moan about a penalty that never was
Reo,point blank,just over.
What a miss by Hatate
Hatate shoots over from 6 yards.
Dreadful finishing tonight – sorry
Crowd a bit quiet, those 5:30 games bhoys are normally pished 🍺
These ridiculous misses just encourage the opposition. We need to be more clinical in front of goal.
Our finishing, is woeful
All too familiar pattern. We should be out of sight already but are struggling to put teams away in the first half recently.
How many sitters are we allowed to miss?
🎶 There’s a place just outside of Lisburn..a place that’s known to few..🎶
These misses are getting ridiculous
We need to be a lot more clinical.
This should be 5 or 6
Is AJ not allowed to go forward?
Playing well until we get to 17yds from goal and then we hit numpty mode.
Rambo,MacLoud, Lambert even Burley.
What happened to those players that just put their boot through the ball and hammered it into the net?
We’ve let Killie get a foothold in the game when we should be out of sight by now.
Fuxake.
