Battle of the B(h)oys
It’s been a long road my friends, I insist this journey only properly began in Dubai with those poolside pints leading to a somewhat cleaning of the Aegean Stables, it’s had twists and turns plus joys and burns, but we’ve made it, we finally not only have a chance of the fabled, the often thought beyond us, hallowed land of knockout European football, and not in the second tier either but mixing it up with the elite.
One win, perhaps a draw, but one win needed.
Two games left, and fancy that Lady Luck smiled upon us and handed us the first of the two remaining games at home, against the weaker of the many competitors, a team with nothing to play for.
The script is written, right?
The beauty of football is that the script is never pre-written, we must watch the scenes play out live and the lucky get to play a role in proceedings.
Forget your Sydney Opera House and Royal Albert Hall,,tonight Parkhead shall eclipse them all, tonight it’s the greatest stage on earth, it’s actors one more great performance away from hero status.
It’s the ultimate thigh rubber.
It’s the biggest two halves of football in decades for you, me, everyone.
It’s finally arrived, the moment of truth.
And I’m working of course.
Regardless, this position look like a bridge too far for soo many years, we all fondly remember Seville, going through under WGS etc, but looking back those teams were built for the moment. I see a lot of young or youngish players now, we will see their names for years. It’s a big test aye, but you’ve gotta be in it to win and regardless of the result, we are putting ourselves on the map again.
Tonight’s experience, no matter how it goes, is invaluable to all involved in football operations plus boardroom affairs.
Victory tonight would not just be wonderful, but open many doors.
The next level of player,,all of them want a knockout phase club.
The final nail in the Old Firm model once the glorious balance sheet is totted up.
The next level of manager when Brendan goes.
The feeling that it was all worth it, we hopped aboard the train with a hope the journey would go well.
The door to the warm fuzzy feeling that we got here ourselves, with integrity intact, through honest means and endeavor.
The door to Celtic being more than a pat on the back club, being an unwanted draw, the door to footballing respect is also open tonight.
Brother Walfrid would be proud no matter the outcome, his vision is currently soaring amongst the eagles, majestic in its own right.
Right, with the hype out of the way onto my actual footballing prediction.
Reo will live or die by tonight.
It’s literally turn up or see ya later time for a player I like but often dissapears.
Kyogo will live or die by tonight.
He loves this tournament, puts in extra effort, but yet his conversion ratio isn’t that high for whatever reason. I love the wee man, but tonight the starting striker of Celtic must score if given opportunities. He cannot squander this huge moment.
Callum as a starting 6 will live or die tonight. Jeezo, if ever we need a good/great game from a better Captain than I felt he was, tonights the night or he’s either phased out, played elsewhere.
Greg Taylor will live or die tonight.
He can kill any BS tonight, any uncommitted nonsense while also delivering the perfect leaving gift. A poor game and he will be given the proverbial lift to the airport.
Trusty will live or die by tonight.
He’s a bit hit and miss, it better be the former or he’s in danger of becoming deemed not good enough.
I actually don’t think Big Cam has been great, and Bernardo isn’t as dynamic as last season like Adam.
Arne, he’s growing into life as a Celtic player, but surely tonight’s like this are why he left the much better Bundesliga. Surely he wanted games like tonight’s.
I could go on, but the point is that most players have a collective AND individual need to pull off a win, to put a real shift in, to leave everything on the park.
As if the pressure wasn’t big enough.
Hatate, first name on the teamsheet. A group game, especially away, it’s Bernardo instead,, in a one-off must win, he’s your man. He’s done it before, he just played to be match-fit, there’s literally nowhere to hide tonight and we all (including the player) need to know if Reo can help us scale heights unknown in many year. Or become a burden.
He might get well rewarded, he might be signed up longterm, but he’s got about 60 minutes to prove part of the solution rather than the problem, or be offered the same lift to the airport as mentioned above. I’m keeping the faith, the op-Tim-ist in me says Reo pulls it out of the bag, the rabbit from the hat, the stands will dance to his tune once again.
Celtic have no other real choice but to go for it, and that can be a dangerous game to play. But under the lights, roared on by the support, another one off must win under a manager who clearly knows how to motivate for big games,,,aye, I’ll take those odds regardless of the opponents.
Boys, men, reputations and ambitions, I’ve seen them all topple under at Parkhead. Big name actors under the greatest scrutiny, under those unforgiving floodlights that could tell some stories, senses assaulted by a roar/warcry that spawned movies like Braveheart,,many think they’ve seen it all until they experience the pinnacle.
Make it a fortress tonight.
Make the team believe.
Make history.
But more important than that, you’re making us proud Celtic.
And for that,,,You’ll Never Walk Alone. Sing it, sing it with all that you’ve got, for truer words have never been spoken.

Ye got the nerves tingling with that …totally agree this is a “live or die” occasion.
A huge game tonite.
Now, unfortunately, my planning & organising skills are waning, we will will be sitting on a plane until 10 minutes after scheduled Final whistle…
The Sesette is NOT impressed!
Anyhoo.
Expecting a deft rolling 25 yard pass from Reo, into feet of a rampaging Engles to clip a low shot across their ‘keeper…in 82nd minute.
Then sweat it out.
Other places talking about hi scoring game to reach exalted position in Jobo’ chart ..canny see that at all.
A tense evening ahead.
Gulp!CSC
Morning all.
Mel ( Mahe) Gibson,
That’s a brilliant battle cry, a Braveheartesque type speech. 👋👋👋👋👋
Certainly got me going.💚💚💚
I agree 100%. Everyone from Players, Background staff and Supporters has a real job to do tonight. We all do our jobs and we should win, and I mean comfortably.
Get the place rocking and scare the shit out of the opposition.
Bring it on !!!!!!!
Personally, I hope to be in Old Glasgow town, afternoon onwards with a few friends from EK. I also hear we’re meeting up with some Irish Bhoys. Should be fun 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
COYBIG 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Celtic 4 YB 1
.
If we win we are through.
If we draw we want
Inter win or draw
Brest win or draw
Arsenal win
Man city win
Good morning friends and a Big Happy European Matchday to all who post or lurk on this fine site.
Wow – excellent stuff Mahe! I’ll read that again before I leave for the game.
BTW I posted this late last night just before I went to bed. It could be a VERY interesting night!
If Celtic win tomorrow in a best case scenario we could overtake EIGHT teams and go into 15th place. If we win 5-0 we would also go above Juve into 14th place.
Any win will take us above 4 teams, then defeats for Feyenoord and S Lisbon (possible) AC Milan (less likely) and a draw for R Madrid v Salzburg (even less likely) would take us above another 4. 5-0 and we leapfrog Juve too.
In Brendan We Trust
All of the various permutations and scenarios (and I’m as guilty as anyone doing these) will mean nothing if we don’t do the business tonight. It’s completely in Celtic’s own hands.
BILLYBHOY
TBH,I will happily settle for the jammiest of wins tonight and worry about the permutations on 30th January. I know that the table is telling us that we should be super confident about winning, but our recent performances and results are sapping that confidence by the minute.
I know,I know. Don’t give me the negative waves this early in the morning! But those two draws which should have been two wins against Bruges and Zagreb are to blame. I just don’t want to have another of our glorious failures to contemplate in eight days time.
(I promise that’s my last negative wave of the day…)
BIGPACKY profusely apologised last night to the site for his behaviour on Friday night. Two posts either side of 6pm which I reinstated after they were caught in our filters.
I’ve lifted his suspension but he is on probation.
Our best ever keeper has extended his contract to summer 2026. Great news.
Bobby
yeah we hold our collective breath to see which version of Celtic turn up tonight.
It’s been a rollercoaster of ups and downs since our capitulation at Ibrox. As Mahe just excellently demonstrated almost every player has shown both their best and worst sides recently and almost all have a point to prove.
The big unknown for me is will the team with nothing to play for but pride – and avoiding taking Sevco’s unwanted record – give it their all or keep their powder dry for their domestic campaign.
There’s no point in pinning our hopes on their being rusty after their winter shutdown given what Bodo/Glimt did to Angeball a few seasons back.
Lets hope we’re all singing We’re Having A Party In The Champions League by HT!
Great leader Mahe.
We need to start the game, the way we started on Saturday, only converting the chances that are created.
Do that and Celtic Park will be rocking
Great news re. Kasper
What a rallying cry that was, Mahe!
I’ve been trying to fit tonight’s game into the order of important games in my lifetime.
I was only a bairn when we were mixing it at the semi-final and final stages of the big cup.
My REAL introduction to big Euro nights in Paradise was as a 9-10yo, sitting on my dad’s shoulders as we took on R, Madrid in the quarter final in 1980 …I think I gave my dad earache, going on and on about how amazing it was.
So, I’m not sure where this game would fit into any list of most important games, I just know that tonight’s 3 pts are super important, and few games have generated as much nervous tension!
Having said that, I am extremely confident this current Celtic squad are more than capable of getting the job done.
If I was having a bet, my money would be on us to win by 2 clear goals, making it almost certain that our name would go into the hat for the next stage (?)
Go grab the glory, Celts!!!
Back to nervous tension! 😳
Smart lad is Kasper!
Don’t see why the big yin couldnt carry on for another couple of years.
Makes some difference knowing he’ll be between the stix next year too.
Brilliant news and great timing!!
HH 🍀
Great news re Kaspar
in all the squad rotation in all the positions, Sinisalo hasn’t had a sniff. Maybe the plan is to integrate him next season
HHH
once we clinch 4 in a row on March 16 we can rest big Kasper until trophy day. That will get him well bedded in!
👍
JOBO
Correct, terrific news that we have Schmeichel till 2026. Not too sure how Sinisalo will feel about it,mind.
Too many permutations to think about….just one result required…a win. Got a whole day at work to worry about what could happen!! To everyone lucky enough to go tonight make some extra noise for those who’ll be sat at home being told to keep the noise down!!!
BAD
The Real Madrid game was a bit special, that’s for sure. One of my favourite Celtic memories.
Kasper. Mr reliable
AJ. First name on the team sheet.
C-V. Captain without an arm band.
Auston. Captain America.
Alex. Out with a bang(?)
Calmac. Simply the best.
Arne. Smooth as silk.
Paolo. Our very own Portugeezer.
Nicky. Vorsprung dirk technique.
Kyogoal. Little Sam your eye.
Daizen. The bullet train 🚝🚝🚝
I’d fancy that team to give most a good game!
Nervous excitement.
That’s how I would describe my current emotions regarding tonight. It’s a big game in the current trajectory of Celtic, but certainly not bigger than the QF v Real in 1980 or the Boavista semis in 03.
It’s somewhere in between, but it’s big.
Excited as I know having seen us dismantled Leipzig and demolish Bratislava, that we are more than capable of doing this.
Nervous, as I’ve seen how brittle our defence and midfield can be when put under severe physical pressure- Dortmund, Deadco,Dundee.
However, those we’re all away from Celtic Park and I’m certain the Holy Ground will plays it’s part again tonight in a famous victory.
Mahe
Brilliant article, and very much a do or die exists for myself at present regarding the outcome of tonight’s match?
Got the confidence back after our display on Saturday in the cup.
Was very much needed, regardless of how wasteful we were in front of goal.
Just can’t see ourselves being as wasteful tonight, especially if we are capable of producing the chances again.
So far more confidence that we will actually do this tonight, and get back to where our Club belongs, within CL football.
However, like Bobby any all of us, have had to endure so much pain in recent times, when it comes to CL football with ourselves.
Unfortunately it has led to a huge nervousness, with being the victims of some very desperate results in European football.
That hurt has left scars, so even with confidence regarding tonight, trying not to be in the over confident category, like many times beforehand, as the hurt is horrendous to suffer with?
So bit of a mixed bag myself regarding the emotions of tonight, and hoping our players are more in the confidence category than the nervousness one, with just how huge tonight means to us all.
Do or die prediction? A massive DO
Bobby,
Shame we couldn’t finish the job in the second leg!
That and the Ajax game -two years on – were brilliant games for a youngster to sample the unique atmosphere in Paradise.
How could you fail to fall in love.
BAD
Would be my preferred starting team also.
Just don’t see Rodgers going with it all the same imo?
Expecting the same as Saturday, with Taylor and Hatate starting ahead of valle and Paulo.
Hopefully we are in a better position than Saturday, especially with not that many available options in going chasing the game for ourselves either.
Scales could well be used again for Taylor, in order to tighten up the defence if required also.
Just passed Alistair Johnston (Theirs, not ours) in the town centre.
I can’t take a near 80yo man seriously if he still has a mullet! (Aye, you too, Rod!)
Tbf, he looks great for his age.
Johnno,
Wouldn’t be worried in the slightest playing young Alex ahead of Greg.
I still think Brendan will go with the more experienced Taylor.
Heading out shortly on what I hope is a brilliant day and night .
Hopefully be in The Merchant City area before heading off to the game.
Let me know if anyone is about and you can buy me a pint 😁
Let’s get this Party Started 🎶🎶🎶🎶
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪👋
BAD
Personally believe valle is still a better option than Taylor at present, but Rodgers certainly doesn’t share the same view, and he is the decision maker?
Regardless, on the bigger picture, it’s looking more likely that valle could well be released, to free up another space within our squad imo?
Already have space available for Tierney, with loaning out Welsh.
Valle and Palma possibly remains favourites at present, in making space for the remainder of the 3 changes allowed to our CL squad?
But suspect that even more space will be made available, with rocki, and potentially Taylor before the end of this season also.
We might not get all the required changes within the squad during January.
But we still need the required space available to attract potential incoming players in the summer.
Especially as we will have to act far quicker, with having to contend with CL qualifiers in July.
I wouldnt be totally surprised to see Scales in place of Taylor. Think the new YB boss will target our left side. Scales gives us height all across the back and at least would play as a full back . Couldnt care less whit the score is as long as we score one more than they do.
3 points imperative.
The 3 below us all have hard games. PSG V MC and Zagreb v Arsenal in London.
A win is huge for us going into final game.
BAD
That would be my team.
👍
Johnno,
I’m sure the gaffer will go with what he considers his most experienced back line.
Alex, for me anyway, is just a better all round player, but Brendan calls the shots.
As for the window …
I’d be happy with KT back, Jota back, and an strong midfield anchor to shore up our defence.
If we could add those 3 things (Players), what a team we could have next season!
HH.
I think Celtic should sign Ross County goalkeeper, Jordan Amissah.
B.A.D 1.01pm
Edit: A strong midfield anchor!
As opposed to AN strong midfield anchor!! ⚓ 😕
Celtic are unlikely to match Aston Villa’s asking price for English forward Louis Barry, 21, after having a £10m bid rejected. (Football Insider)
Big Packy,
How’s things going with you and the good lady?
On what is bound to be a monumental night, it’d be good if you were here to enjoy it with us 👍
Forget what’s gone before, none of us can rewind the clock, as much as we would like to sometimes.
We all make mistakes, my friend.
Chin up.
HH 🍀
MAHE
Crazy money the English clubs demand for kids who’ve been nowhere near the first team.
EDIT:
Just noticed I posted ( and now deleted) the same quote as Mahe did from Football Insider.
Wonder how much truth there is in this rumour?
IQ4,
Not sure that’s much of reliable source.
Most of those sites are just clickbait rubbish.

Minor puzzle. In the right hand side Latest Post table, the Kyogo Conundrum and Battle of the Bhoys appear to be reversed, with the former in the position of latest.🤔

Hi BAD:
I agree. I just wondered if we had any interest at all in Barrie, as that rumour surfaced on KDS a while ago.

Iniquitous IV😊
I had no idea how successful YB have been over the last decade. 👀
I don’t spend a lot of time wondering what’s happening in.Swiss fitba, so I had no clue they had won their league 6 of the last 7 years! Or that they had just changed managers within the last few weeks.
Even so …
I’ll (Nervously) stick with my earlier prediction that we would win by 2 clear goals.
2 or 3 nil, or 3-1
Either will do nicely!
IQ4,
You might be the very man to ask …
Have you ever seen this lad play? The wee man said he is-has been on loan at Stockport (?) Or summit.
Still not heard from anyone who has actually seen him play.
£10m seems a lot for a kid none of us have ever set eyes on.
Unlike some, I do trust Brendan’s judgement though.
HI ALL, BOBBY thanks pal your a gem, and thanks for your good wishes to Joan👍❤ to all posters and lurkers on this site, I made a complete arsehole of myself last friday night and would like to apologize to each and every one of you, and I mean that 👍🙏
A win for us and for Arsenal will see us through, Kyogo to step up
Rumor has reached me that, in fact, President Trump gave Big Packy a pardon, and that’s why he is now allowed to post again!
