Fell to pieces
There was no game at Parkhead on Saturday. It was the correct decision, no problem. After all, pieces of the stadium fell, but I’ve questions about the affair because it looks like the contingency planning fell to pieces.
Before I go any further I’ll point out I’m far from an expert and I haven’t read up on the actual footballing rules regarding a naturally damaged stadium, but Health and Safety can get a match shutdown, the ultimate decision rests with them and not the football authorities.
Yet, the police have had the authority to tell football you’re not playing that particular game at that time of day. The ultimate reason is for safety but it’s a police call.
That’s two departments that have the authority to cancel games or dictate affairs.
One of them did cancel the game, but very late in the day, leaving many out of pocket.
Why it took both so late is one question, the other question, why is there a decision to make at all,,under a severe storm alert mass gatherings of any kind should be canceled by mandate.
I see it all the time, the legalities of being responsible aside, really bad weather coming, event canceled and hunker down folks is a regular occurrence publicized days in advance.
As people we are all entering a new phase of weather, and we all know why. This wasn’t a one-off, it’s a sign of things to come.
I can’t blame Celtic,,if anything only minor damage is the sign of a decently built stadium plus they couldn’t/wouldn’t ask workmen to leave their homes/loved ones on the Friday.
While football was a victim, it could also be a leader. Grant clubs the authority to cancel games if the stadium is in the path of a category 1 upwards? If natural stadium damage occurred in the previous 48 hours?
Of course Gov could make that decision moot by saying everything’s canceled until after.
I don’t think anyone is really ready for the new normal,,hence roofs being blown off, walls collapsing alongside decision making efficiency, legislation found lacking and the host club itself powerless to take decisive steps.
So if there’s any positives to take its not that we didn’t drop two points but dropped two roof panels instead, it’s that the oversight/emergency planning mechanisms for events during severe weather must be looked at, must be modified and streamlined, because of the risk and spend left hanging by on the day call-offs. Being reactive rather than proactive just left fans out of pocket with nothing to show for it, they deserve better.
The eventful non-event capped off one hell of a week, I’ve got a feeling by next Monday Celtic will have a new face in the dressing room, no info just a hunch, and call me naive but I’m loving the fact we can hit Birmingham and both teams play without actually needing a win, but rather just play for pride. Call me a romantic but such occasions can and have brought out the best in Celtic.

Difficult to see how the club could have dealt with 100 mph winds any differently.
They could only grant safe rope access in daylight on the day of the game.
It was clear a couple of fascia panels had blown off and assessing the security of the rest would take time.
If the incident had occurred 24/48 hours before that then criticism may be due.
There are other things to get angsty about.
Separately, Just read this on bbc sport-
“It means the Premier League could theoretically have seven teams in next season’s Champions League – the top five in the table( Uefa will award two bonus spots in the 2025-26 Champions League to the domestic leagues which perform best in Europe this season.)
The winners of this season’s Champions League if they don’t qualify domestically ( Man City, say) and the winners of the Europa League ( say M U or Spurs).
The pandering to the major leagues continues. Sickening.
Until a couple of years ago there was a limit set of 4 teams from any league.
Good morning, friends.
In case I’m the only one who didn’t realise this, I’ve just learned that the current transfer window doesn’t close until next Monday, 3rd February at 11pm. Not sure why theres the extra 3 days this year.

Finally got electricity back last night, even if the water is still out.
With so many within the country not as lucky at present, it still hasn’t and won’t effect the sporting or entertainment world.
Not unless there is a safety concern in place, and has been the case for some time now.
Anyway another interesting week lies ahead within our Celtic world.
Could be a case where we have a stronger squad available for a trip to motherwell, than what we will have in place for a CL trip to Villa?
Madness to think that could be the case, but those are potentially the current circumstances we are looking at?
Would make you wonder, which of the 2 matches is regarded as been the most important out of the 2?
The CL finalised table will possibly go right down to the final minute, to see where the final places will be, for so many teams.
Personally don’t think that we are to particularly bothered about the final outcome of the CL table imo?
The reason being, is that it may well suit ourselves as a team, to play the first leg of a knockout game, at home with the second away.
Not the usual strategy, but years ago, neither was taken penalty’s first the preferred choice, unlike today.
We have seen that we are more than capable of producing attacking football at CL level at home.
Not so much away from home, but after dortmund we have had to be far more resilient defensively, and villa looks like being another huge test in that regards for ourselves.
So in terms of results, then motherwell could possibly be regarded as a bigger match for ourselves.
Yet the defensive display at Villa, I would regard as far more important in trying to get right, upon the bigger picture of the season imo?
Whilst Villa may not be one of the best teams left in the tournament, they showed glimpses yesterday of how good they can break and link up. I’d hope we might set up similar to our trip to Atalanta and keep the game as tight as possible for as long as possible.

A open 4-3-3 would be asking for trouble. We don’t have the personnel available. Losing Daizen means we don’t have the protection he provided v Atalanta.
Our left flank will be a problem. Scales and Taylor to play?
Idah started that game so no change there. We just won’t have options to change very much.
JOBO,JUSTSAYIN’
Really not looking forward to Wednesday. It would have been difficult enough with a full squad but damnably awkward without Maeda and Kyogo. It might well be that we go with Valle on the left in place of Maeda, but we really are struggling, even without any injuries which is a blessing in itself.
Usually at this stage I’m still optimistic as well. Hell knows what I’ll be like on Wednesday at 7pm!
Bmcuw
We are actually three options down from that Atalanta game as JF came on for Kühn.
His experience, albeit as a sub, will be missed too.
A hard working draw will be an excellent outcome.

Not like me to forget about Jamesie. Love the guy. Been a great servant to the club, and hopefully he can continue his record of medals and goal-scoring seasons for a year or two yet.
Quietest ever morning on here. What a chance for all the lurkers, currently reading this, to make a debut post. Let’s be ‘avvin ye!
Anyway, I presume Kyogo is still in France. If it falls through I’d have no problem with him playing on Wednesday. No bad blood on this particular one from me.

Afternoon all
Keep on keeping on Jobo, give us more👍🙏💚🍀😁
Delighted to see Jota back. I hope he gets some company.
KT and Jota on the left,Kvistgaarden through the middle
Welcome home to the prince of double denim!
The Jota/Kyogo had to be part of a deal in train for a while.
Hope JT is same but doubt not this season. Depends on GT staying. No point paying 2 set of wages.

OK, I’ll bite. Long time lurker here. I’ll accept the above invitation from the guy with the strange moniker, and dip my toe in the water. Before you ask, I’m not a Hun.
I notice there’s a long time poster on here whose moniker is very similar to mine. Probably deliberate. Posts a whole lot of crapola.
OK, Back to lurking.
Hull sign Barrie. So one door closes. Has anyone heard a cheep about any striker other than Kvistgaarden?

Jota interview with Celtic TV
https://youtu.be/t9vJTIDCJd0?si=siZ6oKw65A7fr34N
I don’t think a Barrie deal was ever on INI XXVIII
Villa always intended loaning him out in England, Hull are fighting relegation, if (and it’s a big IF) he does well there and keeps them up, they’ll set a fee above £20m for him, (assuming they do sell), so we won’t be back in the summer for him.
At work so will have to watch the Jota interview later. Welcome home. A player that gets the support of their seats has been missing. Jota will do that.
Farewell Kyogo. What a striker he was for us, best since Larsson, no doubt but he’s away and I don’t waste a minute thinking about players that don’t want to play for Celtic.
Jota Press conference SSN 4pm
Welcome home Jota. Be nice to see him
demonstrate how to score direct from a free kick.
We have been sadly lacking in that department.
My wife has suddenly decided she fancies going to a game again. It’s probably just a coincidence 😁😁
Welcome back Jota! Farewell Kyogo – and thanks for the memories. We’ll see you back here when your 2.5 years contract expires! 👍
Right, now where is that Kvistgaarden chappie?
Afternoon
Although I am sorry that Kyogo has left and have reservations about the return of Jota , I am glad that matters are concluded at the very least. What’s done is done
Not looking forward to Wednesday. Under strength and with Villa still in the hunt for a top 8 place it could be a long, torturous evening.
Harking back to Saturday’s call off, having gone to bed early so I could get up early to get to work and complete my shift prior to going to the game I was pretty pissed off at the call off and I acknowledge that my inconvenience minor compared to many. Given that the wind was still blowing hard after the red warning ended at 5.30 on Friday it was possible that when daylight finally came- at 9a.m – more damage to the stadium would be revealed so calling it off on Friday seems sensible. Nobody’s fault perhaps but in hindsight a mistake was made in trying to get the game on.
The stadium itself needs a bit of sprucing up especially the concourses which have always had a basic, even unfinished feel to them. And as others have appointed out having no hot water in the toilet sinks is as inexcusable now as it was in 1995 when the North Stand was built. The cost to change this plumbing will no doubt be high but no expense for such a basic amenity should be considered prohibitive. But it will be

Hi ASWGL:
I have no doubt you are correct, but there is a possibility we did at least inquire as to his availability. Any competent recruiters would cast their net wide before the window opens and then zero in on the most realistic probability that meets Brendan’s desired profile.
Brendan said weeks ago he wants a striker, lots of work was going on behind the scenes, and he expected the squad would be stronger. We have six days to go, and with a Champions League game imminent, we have sold our best striker, knowing for months we were going to lose him, weakened our negotiating position, and are now behind the eight ball. After Norwich and Idah, this is a repeat of clownish ineptitude. The nearer it gets to Feb 3, the more clubs will demand for strikers, as they will know they will have no time to get a replacement, and will recognize desperation when they see it.
Kvistgaarden’s price has apparently soared from £8M to £13.5M. I ask myself: How much higher will it go? And what are we doing to prevent getting gazumped by Eintracht or Leipzig? And what is Plan B or Plan C? And why are we once again in this position? Man City and Villa, among other CL clubs, have already bedded in new signings in preparation for the knockout round. And here Celtic are again, with Kyogo giving months of notice, scrabbling around at the last minute, as per usual.

Frustrated CSC😊
He’s a beautiful human being.
One hunskelper goes out and another one comes in.
INI It’s all just guess work, for all we know Nicholson might be sitting at Bronby playing here’s our transfer offer, what’s yours, common sense should dictate that he/they have a list of 5 or 6 players and if one is hardball it’s move down the list.
No-one really knows anything
According to Arsenal fan blog sites, Jakob Kiwior is tired of his limited game time at left back or center back, and is pushing to return to Serie A in January. Arteta has turned it down. His reasons are that Zinchenko may be sold in the next week, Lewis-Skelly is facing a three game ban, unless his red card is overturned, and Calafiori has missed recent games through injury.
Seems to me that Arteta, given these circumstances, is highly unlikely to sanction an immediate loan for KT.
So it is a likely bye bye to upgrading at left back for the rest of the season.

Hi ASWGL
Brondby are in training camp in the US. You are correct – it is guess work, and no one, most of all me, knows what’s going on.
What I do know, assuming Kvistgaarden is the top target, is that Nicholson should have concluded a deal weeks ago, or walked away, to tackle Plan B.

Bad news guys.

INI yeah like I said all guess work, maybe we have signed someone, maybe our #1 target isn’t available until summer, and BR thinks we can go with Idah Maeda and god forbid Palma as our 3 strikers until then.
What I am certain of is, this Wednesday you won’t be able to watch all the 18 CL screens, no matter how many monitors you beg steal or borrow 😜
Story on the BBC today about cycling potentially banning carbon monoxide rebreathing. Yes … carbon monoxide… the silent killer … is being used by top cyclists to allegedly measure haemoglobin levels. The problem is that extended use can be both performance enhancing and fatal. Breathing in more CO causes a decrease in the oxygen levels in the blood, which causes your body to produce more red bood cells to offset the decrease … the same effect you get from sustained training at high altitude or taking drugs such as EPO.
Cycling has alwas been at the forefront of drug cheating… but with the money involved in football these days, it would be silly to think this sort of thing isn’t happening in football.

Odd. I thought Scottish managers only resigned before Sevco games.
All joking aside, if it is true that he resigned because of the abuse he and his family were getting, that is a shame.
Today – International Holocaust Rememberance Day, of all days – Elon Musk attends a far right German political rally and tells the audience that “there’s frankly too much focus on past guilt, and we need to move beyond that.” This, less than a week after he made a Nazi salute at a rally.

Apparently the fans have been highly critical lately, and he decided to give them some back. Which might not be the cleverest thing to do at a club which is owned by the fans.
