Time for The Steelmen

Sunday’s fixture should be interesting. For starters Celtic will be quite jaded given the energy expended in Birmingham, plus we have selection issues. As such, it’s not a straightforward stroll in the park.

The departed/unavailable/injured list is piling up,,Scales, Forrest, Palma, Kyogo, CCV, Valle,,that’s most of a team with some issue or another.
We can also throw in tired mainstays like Adam, Reo, Callum, Taylor, Kuhn, Engels,,and there’s a good chance the tired Trusty will have a complete rookie in Dane Murray beside him.
It’s possible we will witness a second debut for Jota aka Boy Wonder, but Daizen is well rested and I don’t expect him to be benched for this affair.

Adam is a certainty as is Kasper, Daizen, Greg and Kuhn,,after that who knows. I’d like to see Luke and Bernardo drafted in, a Trusty/Murray combo at central defense doesn’t fully inspire me but needs must. Ideally Idah scores the goals to take the three points then Cummings gets more minutes.

As for our opponents, losing the manager is just another spanner in the works as we cannot possibly know what to expect. Caretaker managers are dangerous in that respect, regular formation and/or specific player responsibilities can easily be switched by the man without his head on the chopping block. I’m fine with that, adjusting on the day is part and parcel of football, as is stamping your own impression on the team.

Everything taken together makes the affair much more interesting than a normal February SPL away clash.
I miss the midweek games due to work, so this is my introduction to life after Kyogo, still cant believe hes gone. But I backed Adam as top scorer, I read he was very good in Brum, Im really looking for him to assume the mantle of our main man up front, so some more goals from the Corkman would be very welcome.

Even though it’s February the window is still open, I’ll access at the end, but looking at the last matchday squad and looking ahead to tomorrow’s, we clearly need players. The current squad has/had too many passengers, good job shifting some out and being cash positive, but it’s bringing them in that really counts.
I doubt Brendan would have sanctioned all the loans/departures unless he believes he will be replacing them with better players, his type of players, or he wouldn’t have left himself short, like Stephen Welsh on loan when we could have done with him, could do with him available tomorrow. Palma is another example, he’s better than nothing if you get my drift,,if he wasn’t getting replaced he would be kept for numbers alone and when we are already winning to rest legs.
A clear out in football (unless you’ve a massive squad/wagebill that needs trimming which we don’t) equals arrivals. With the group stages settled, with most teams starters/backups established, with money to spend and preparing to do, the time is nigh.

You are correct in saying that as a club we should not be in this ridiculous position.
It looks as if nothing has changed in the recruitment department and we all know that Nicholson is out if his depth

It looks us we are relying on Brendans wee black book

Kane scores a minute before half time and a minute after halftime when the opposition loses concentration. They have 4 subs on, Palhinha, Sane, Gnabry and Muller, and are now 4-1 up. They are resting Kane, Olise and Coman.

Bad sign. We have 8 games coming up in 23 days with a sadly depleted squad. By contrast, Sevco, by reaching Europa top 8, have 5 in 24, and one of these is a home game to Queens Park. Some of our players look exhausted already, and we keep cutting the squad.

Insanity.

JS, I still don’t understand why celtic always employe ex- players for our youth set up. Surly there must be some other people that can do this job.

For example, the French, Belgium & Spanish always seem to produce really good young players.

For me I would probably go for a French head of academy, with hopefully some good contacts within the game .

Otherwise, just shut Lennoxtown down and train at Barrowfield.

Somethings got to change and this should start with the jobs for the boys.

Pitymevin…irrespective of who coaches our youth teams, and btw I’m with you about the CFC nepotism, do you really think a foreign coach could make our youngsters better. I’ve banged on about this for ages but the whole structure of Scottish fitba needs ripped up and start again. Form Bertie Vogts days in the national team when he requested National Centres of Excellence and the appointment of a Youth Tsar (was Brian McClair the 1st or 2nd?) we have failed in every aspect. Until that is reviewed/resolved/understood/taken seriously we’ll be fecked.

Morning all
Surprised, disappointed even to read yesterday that we should see ourselves as a Europa League team and not a Champions League team. I can understand why people think it but if you don’t aim high you sure as hell won’t hit high.

/===
To aim high the resources to do so are needed.

The top tier is out of reach or is that disputed?

So what tier should Celtic have ambition to play in and what are comparative budgets of our likely opponents? Where would Celtic come in the wage table? Would we be wage competitive or would the tier below be our ambition level?

A job for TMG?

Facts rather than emotion have to play a major part of any ambition of any club.

The idea that the EL is made up of poorer clubs is not the case just because R2ngers got results against the poorest. They got horsed by the best, who are in the next round. So I’m not having it that the EL is a poor second.

Ambition is all very well but look at where it got R2ngers, which takes me to why CL distribution is poisonous to Scottish football.

Where it any other club than R2ngers, would the loss of the title be the cause of the same anger?
Look at reaction to the Ibrox defeat. Chicken Little.

Forget the mini Huns I’m talking about a swathe of football fans who mainly at Ibrox who HATE Celtic and, we might not like this, whom we Celtic supporters HATE in equal measure.

It dismays me that a club founded on love depends on hate for a good part of its income.

CL money because of the winner loser distribution in this wee God forsaken country fuels the hate by conferring a sense of superiority on the winner over the loser.

It is bad for Scottish Society as a whole and I’m all for anything that produces a more civilised society for my grand kids.

Should that not be much more important than mindless ambition?

Try dismissiveness, as their diminishing role in Scottish society hastens as their footballing successes wane.
Scotland nationally is not defined in the binary choice of Celtic or Rangers.
To believe so is naive in the extreme.

St tams

I tend to look at how the 20man SPFL squad is constructed first.
An SPFL match day squad for ourselves, only consists of a midfield player and a CB missing, on the theory of 2 players for each position method.
That format has been in operation for the best part of this season to date.

That’s how Rodgers decided to construct the squad, even if I personally thought having only 5 midfield options available, without any in the remaining 5 CL places, was a big risk to be taking imo?

Yet here we are, with presuming the formation of the squad remains the same, as would be very unusual to actually change mid season.

With jota replacing Palma.
Monty for valle
Murray for scales
Cummings for kyogo at present?

We got 2 days to improve and becoming stronger.
So the real question I’m struggling currently with, is who is actually making these decisions, that has our 20man squad weaker than when the window opened.
Somehow I still struggle to believe that Nicholson is having any involvement with how our squad is actually constructed.
To many rumours surrounding players without any form of substance within them.
Even mixed reactions to where the 2 available additions can or will fit into the 20man squad.

Possibly up there with the worst planning within a transfer window I can recall, and still far from comfortable with how we will see out the remainder of this season, without even considering where we could be regarded the CL qualification games during the summer.
Never forseen this actually happening, and not to impressed that we find ourselves in this current position either.

Bored by the Board…probably not, at the moment. But, we’ve got to give the thousands of youngsters who play every week some kinda aspiration to aim for, notwithstanding the future of attendance at games, both go hand in hand. Rather than question its worth why not question why and how we aren’t as good as other countries in development and achievement? Rhetorical q btw!

So talks have broken down with the danish boy ‘but we may go back in the summer’

What is the point in a player trading model to take us to the next level and we are haggling over 3 or 4 million with our reserves. And out comes Brendan’s wee black book in a mad panic.
it’s an utter disgrace. 2 days of the window left and we are weaker than we went into it. With a league to win, a CL double header to play and a team to bed in for the qualifiers next year.

Agree 100%. We could have been in this position 4 weeks ago with Brondby, presented them with a take it or leave it offer, then moved on to Option 2 with plenty of time to spare.
I am sick to the eyeteeth of the fcukwits who get us into this position time after time.
