Hail! Hail! Heroes!!!
Morning, all.
Difficult to remember when I’ve felt so deflated after a Celtic match. Difficult to remember when I’ve felt so proud either. Every one of our players out there put in the shift that I asked for in yesterday’s article. Give us your 100%, and then give us that bit more. They did that. All of them. And came so so close to beating Bayern in regulation time and pushing them to extra time.
Every one of them deserves to be remembered for their heroics last night, and I’m sure the match will live long in the memory of all who were there or watching on TV. It was relentless, yet it was far from all one-way traffic. The match stats are all firmly loaded in Bayern’s favour, but the truth is somewhat different.
We had four very good chances in the first quarter of the game-a dreadful effort close-in from Kühn being the pick of them. Score even one of them, and who knows how the game would have gone? As it was, we weathered the storm, absorbed everything that the home side could throw at us while causing them some grief whenever we got the opportunity. And we had a few of them!
Our starting XI took a blow around the hour mark when Jota caught a sore one in the eye and had to come off. Idah however was already stripped for action, so the injury probably only brought forward a planned substitution by a smidgin. It meant that Maeda, a constant menace for the home centre-backs, was pushed to his favoured wide left position. And he soon caused some damage.
Coming off his wing to make an interception as Bayern played around in deep areas,he tackled first Upemecano then Kim to push the loose ball to Kühn on the edge of the area. He too shrugged off a challenge as he took a touch before coolly slotting into the corner to give us the lead. 63 minutes into the second half, and honours are even. All to play for.
Of course, we knew that Bayern would then throw everything at us to an even greater extent than before. If we thought it was backs to the wall before this, it was the bloody Alamo after it! Schmeichel was performing heroics whenever required, AJ was making goal-saving tackles just as the forward was about to slide the ball into the net. CCV and his Trusty sidekick were beating off the high balls, while our midfield were occupied in the middle of our box just kicking it anywhere they could.
There was little point in doing much else-everyone was back helping out where they were most needed! Problem with that plan though is always that the ball comes straight back to you, as we were finding out-even though we could do damn all about it. I confess that for the last ten minutes or so, I was fixated by the clock in the top left corner of the screen, and it seemed to be advancing very slowly indeed.
That was just me watching on TV anaw, imagine how the players must have felt! And if those last ten minutes of normal time seemed to be caught in a time-warp, the four minutes of added time seemed like an eternity! Or, at least the first three minutes did.
For that is when Bayern got their equaliser. Finally breaching our lines, and as the ball squirmed around, two yards from our goal, CCV stuck out a desperate leg to divert it away from danger. Sadly, he could only divert it against the onrushing shin of recent sub Davies, AJ’s international colleague who will never score a softer or scrappier goal if he plays till he’s a hunner.
The ref, who seemed reluctant to rule in our favour all night, was also reluctant to allow us the 45 or so seconds that should have been remaining, and blew the whistle straight after we restarted the game. By that time, I doubt it mattered much anyway. The goal had knocked the stuffing out of the players and every Celtic fan watching. We knew we had come so far, come so close. But we knew we just didn’t have it in us to get a winner in such a short time.
Bayern once again celebrated drawing against us as though they had won the actual tournament, which would have brought back memories of twenty-odd years ago for Martin O’Neill and Neil Lennon as they watched from their positions in the media area. The whole enormity of that last-gasp equaliser certainly brought back memories of other hard luck tales of yesteryear, but let’s take nothing away from the performance other than that our players gave their all over a two-legged tie with one of the finest teams in Europe-and gave them one helluva scare.
Have our performances in Europe this season been enough to announce that we are back as a force to be reckoned with? Well, that’s a subject for another day. Maybe on Friday when emotions aren’t running quite so high, once the adrenalin levels subside to their normal levels. Let’s leave it at that, with the knowledge that there’s at least one top team in Europe knows we aren’t to be taken lightly!

Anyway, to ensure it doesn’t get lost at the end of the last discussion, a few words on the self indulgent one :
M McG
The sort who lights up a room when he leaves it.
Good riddance to the unpleasant, attention Seeking narcissist.
And please, if you find him abhorrent don’t give him the cosy, cuddly endearment “Mags” , he thrives on attempting to create discord.
A divisive, vile character who is given huge leeway on here to besmirch honest supporters with his bile.
A malignant blight on this blog.
My own positive view on Celtic yesterday was as follows-
“I believe we can score over there. Problem is keeping them out when we give away so many avoidable goals.
Brugge, Munich, Villa.
I felt we gave them far too much respect last week, until second half when we realised we could be competitive.”
Only cretins or agenda driven disrupters would attempt to undermine / deflect from yesterday’s glorious failure.
Just Sayin
Im only trying to tell you why Celtic is financed.0% Europe. 100% Huns
next?
Bhoys/ghirl
It is with a deep sorrow to inform you that I will be no longer trying to raise money for charity on behalf this blog.
I can no longer do so whilst this blog protects a certain poster from defaming Celtic supporters, and us the posters/fans.
Wishing you all the best of luck in life and everything you do.
as always
HH.
Ps
I’ve already sent Bmcwp a email regarding my position.
No you’re not.
You are a negative, destructive evil presence on this blog.
See Chalmersbhoy’s sad comment above.
Make ye proud, aye?
Happy now, you blowhard?
Things are getting a bit out of proportion tonight 🤔🍀HH

Nope
It’s coming to a head!

Wow!

I’ve given plenty money to Celtic sponsored charities over the years. All I said was:
Nice turnover
EPL fodder
Europe if yer lucky
Whit are the Huns daein?
what is so wrong about that?
I’d say in proportion with the crap those of us who object have to put up with.
Each their own I guess.
Aye, “Mags” yer an example to us all.
Mags
Epl fodder…not
Europe if yer lucky…done really well
Whit the huns daein…who the fk cares!
Calling posters a wank … rest my case.
Yes ,you have given generously to charity but that does not give you a pass to abuse fellow celtic supporters.
The person who gives one penny is the same as someone who gives 500.
Charity!
Goodnight all.🍀☘️
C’mon the Hoops ! 💚🍀😎

The vibe not happening mate.
Thought we were going to do it tonight.
Maybe next year.I hope so..🙏🙏
Really proud of the team.
A last kick of the ball wonder goal at Half Time at home and a jammy last kick of the ball in the 2nd half in Munich.
That’s how close we were.
Question is….can we keep the band together another year?
Not a game for moaning about X Y and Z,be proud tonight, Brendan kinda summed it up,not enough on the bench, magnificent from the team and the manager
Amazon Prime coverage was brilliant
H3
Where would they go to get better?
We are on the up..
Probably the following season celtic would cash in, unfortunately.
Which would suit,mags manifesto.

Bada Not in the Vogue 🙈
Bada Dreadful stuff in the Vogue 🙈 No picture and no sound for first half. Ended up watching first half on my boys phone. Pub emptied very quickly @ HT and i watched second half in my boys house nearby. Scandalous for a so called Celtic pub 🙈

Graham Speirs tonight
Bayern Munich 1-1 Celtic (agg 3-2)
Having watched Scottish teams in European competition man and boy for 45 years tonight I witnessed – beyond dispute – one of the greatest from Brendan Rodgers and Celtic in the Allianz in Munich.
Celtic fans will feel emotionally burgled by Bayern’s equaliser with 15 seconds to go, thus denying them the chance to take the German tyrants to 30 minutes of extra time in the Champions League. But this was a towering Celtic performance which deserved every last paeon of praise.
How many teams – German or otherwise – go to Munich and are composed while creating such scoring chances? Yet this Celtic performance in Germany was not truly based on attacking.
Celtic’s predisposition, field-shape and use of the ball were all thoroughly impressive.
This was the ultimate testimony of Brendan Rodgers’ ability as a manager. Celtic – streets behind Bayern in financial power – played a tactical, passing and pressing game which spoke of a club buying decent players and a coach imbuing his team with belief and knowledge. The number of times Celtic played the ball calmly and astutely out of their first third spoke of a manager saying: “This is how we do it. Believe in ourselves. Believe in our system.”
I had found it scarcely believable the way Rodgers spoke in recent days with a calm voice about Celtic’s chances in Munich, against such a formidable, dominant team. Well…so much for my understanding of football. Brendan’s tone proved thoroughly justified.
Let it also be noted: Rodgers and Martin O’Neill, for all sorts of complicated reasons, have not always been mutual admirers. This week, all of that has been done away with. O’Neill knows – and acknowledges – that Rodgers is top-notch. O’Neill was ecstatic with Celtic’s performance tonight.
Celtic have made some incredible finds in recent years and one of their greatest has to be Alistair Johnston. This tough, intuitive, unrelenting Canadian right-back could play for any club in Britain and hold his own. Johnston tonight, as ever, was formidable, rarely letting the best in Europe get past him.
As for Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty: Celtic have a pair of terrific centre-backs (that’s 1970s speak).
Before this tie, frankly, I thought: fat chance for Celtic. Bayern for 70 minutes had been so dominant in Glasgow last week – “so very Bayern” in fact – that I couldn’t see Celtic being able to match them. Yet the Scottish champions could have been 3-0 up after 20 minutes.
It is true that Kasper Schmeichel made some excellent saves – this goalkeeper has been one of Celtic’s best signings of the past 10 years – yet Celtic were thoroughly deserving of their opening goal after 63 minutes from Nicolas Kuhn. From a Scottish point of view (excepting Rangers fans) the pain was rubbed in when Bayern equalised with – I calculated from the added-time clock – 15 seconds to go.
This is the irony. Celtic, the original British winners of Europe’s elite club trophy, are out of Europe, having delivered one of the greatest European away performances of any British club in recent years. For Celtic, this was both a painful failure and a reputational success.
Little wonder Brendan Rodgers was bursting with pride for his players. Rodgers, in these 90 minutes, has also just reminded his doubters that he is among the elite coaches of the game.
G64- was a tea time decision for one the pubs hereto show it,all was good, seems a domestic Amazon Prime programme is different to commercial premises, you need Smart TVs for a start….not sure if they have any HH
Folks
One sure way to bring conflict to any forum is to pass judgement on the forum itself or individuals posting on it
I think I can see where Mag’s frustration and anger come from based on my own experience.
Mahs sees life according to his beliefs based on his experience, as do we all, and he would like to see some admission that others see what he sees.
I see things based on my experience and would like to see Celtic and support be more true to the Christian spirit (as in love thy neighbour) that brought Celtic into being but without anger or judgement as far as is humanly possible.
I think the approach that brings information or a differnt meaning to the table has a better chance of reaching an audience than letting anger take over.
All anger does is create anger which has resulted tonight from what I see as a massive failure by Mags to read the room.
Thought the Amazon Prime coverage was fantastic.
I’d subscribed to Discovery+TNT Sports last month for £30.99, didn’t know tonight’s game was on Prime for free.
Again though, well worth it for the previous two CL games- their coverage of the competition is outstanding.
Cancelled subscription, zero interest now.
Very weird thing happened tonight – there was a two power cuts throughout west Belfast, during the game.
Second cut happened in the 94th minute of the game when we were still leading, then the electric went out for about 10 seconds, and when it came back on Munich had equalised.
Really strange occurrence.
Can’t praise our manager, and players enough – they were outstanding, and played some excellent football throughout.
Quality coaching that.
Still we must continue to scrutinise, and monitor the board of directors – they will do anything to avoid spending money!
Let’s focus on winning this Treble now.
HH.🍀
Like I have been saying till my throat is sore,, the biggest result this season would be getting Brendan to commit his long-term future to us!
Give the man the FULL running of the football operation for as long as he wants to be with us, as he is just getting warmed up!
Nothing is more important!!
Auldheid,
what the rest of us see is an attention seeking bully. A man who has besmirched the Celtic support and the posters on here on a regular basis. We had a tremendous performance last night and yet still Mags McGill brings it back to his perception of bigotry and ties his feelings about the board in with the supporters. I think a lot of people on here are too polite to say what they really think of him.
Chalmersbhoy,
I hope you will reconsider. You do great things for this blog. Don’t let Mags be the one to stop you.
Exceptional team performance last night.
We were running out of steam in the last 10-15. In ET we’d have been exhausted.
Schmeichel outwards we were a match for them. What could’ve been.
We have exceeded expectations this season. Next season a better league finish and we maybe could have done a Feyenoord or Brugge- here’s what you could’ve won- a last 16 place.
Right. The priority now is to wrap up domestic business and get our Summer sorted.
Keeping key personnel will be as important as serious recruitment since plenty watching will have added a few names from that team to their list of transfer targets.
So we go again.
Fantastic journey BR is taking us on.
Reflect and back to business on Saturday
Gutted. Not felt like that in a while .
We’re building something special here folks. Let’s keep this squad together for two more years.
No selling AJ, Kuhn, or Maeda when the inevitable offers come in. And they will.
Rick Buckler RIP 🙏
Rick Buckler
Never felt so proud about coming away with a draw, perhaps a wee bit more belief at home might have made the difference, who knows, but every single player last night gave their everything for the cause. The team needs one or two quality additions but more importantly to keep the manager and players that we have – Bravo.
Another great Celtic memory to put into the Celtic memory box, to join Lisbon – Seville – Barca etc.
Long Live The Celtic Memory Box.
BAWHEID
I’ve no idea why your comments yesterday were held in our filters. I reinstated them as soon as I became aware of them. Apologies again.
ATHINGOFBEAUTY
Your 631 comment has also been reinstated. Same useless explanation as the one, above,to BAWHEID. Also with apologies.
Hard to pick MOTM, every player gave their all . However, for me
Kasper
AJ
Trusty
Maeda
Engels.
Nothing today but immense pride in the team and the whole campaign. I wonder if the result in Dortmund hung a little in the background and maybe stopped us beating Brugge particularly. All ifs and fine margins as always. Saturday here we come.
Bobby – No apologies necessary, thank you for reinstating them.
A team constructed to attack relentlessly is reconstructed to mostly defend, a new version of Brendan’s team and how they could adapt to different opposition, I like it.
Jeff Stelling yesterday totally dismissed the suggestion that we had an easy group,
Mind how annoyed folk were that we couldn’t beat Brugge at home. Well they just beat Atalanta home and away knocking out the 3rd in Serie A. Zagreb failed to qualify with 10 points. Leipzig who were 2nd in the bundesliga at the time said they were chasing shadows.
This has been an amazing campaign if only for the way we have grown. Had we got through last night who knows where we could have gone.
I would have loved to have gotten Dortmund again. 26 points and 9 places behind Bayern,
That would have been a real measure of our progress if we had met again.
Well done bhoys and welcome back Brendan.
Who saw that coming…and what might have been, with just a little bit more depth…
Sooooo we keep on building and maintain complete focus on 25/26 CL
Feyenoord like it in Milan eh?!
See ye all again in August.
Good morning, friends .
Really enjoyed my full read back from round 7pm last night. Until it all kicked off post match. Seems to be common denominator for such occasions. Must be a real turn off for the loads who lurk, never post, but fortunately vote often.
Chalmesbhoy – your input to this site is well known and appreciated and I hope that continues for a long time.

Morning all
Prime’s coverage last night was superb. Alan Shearer never been on my list of pundits I admire but have to say he was extremely complimentary to us .
Pre match I’d predicted a comfortable Bayern win. Gut wrenching to lose that late equaliser.
Once again I thought our playing the ball out from defence has improved beyond recognition. I first attended matches in the mid 60’s. The uncle who took me was forever screaming ‘ get the ball on the carpet Celtic’. He hated the high ball type of game. Struck me last night he’d be in his element watching these bhoys.
Midfield was a mix of class, composure and creativity.
Forward players superb with unselfish tracking back . Maeda should pack up football and be the figurehead for Duracell. He’s a freak of nature!
I’m usually dreading European qualifiers. Not so now.
Couple more quality additions to the squad and we go again.
Absolutely brilliant effort last night
Johnno,
“Admittedly everything has to go perfectly, but nothing suggests to myself that it can’t be done either, no matter how big of a task it remains”
Nearly mate, nearly.
Imperative we build on this campaign.
.
I watched the game on Premier Ireland and the coverage there was also excellent. Petrov and Shay Given as pundits. What a team performance it was. Everyone of them must have been dead on their feet at the end. At last we are a force in Europe. Its been a long wait . Lets hope we dont split this group up in the summer.
We move on to Hibs then Dons next week. A relentless schedule .
Auldheid…you do yourself a massive disservice trying to defend Mags. Her undisguised invective towards any and all Celtic fans has forever been the blackest spot on this blog.
Auldybhoy et al…rather than not breaking up this team we should be thinking about the areas that need quality added. Engels is proving himself week in week out but doesnt quite have the level of consistency to fully assert himself in games. McCowan couldn’t even get on last night. Reo can be a beautiful fitba player with great vision but ain’t no Modric! Bernardo for some reason hasn’t pushed up a level this season. Up front, as discussed at the close of the window, we need definitely one, preferably two, quality strikers. I’ve still not got full faith in Trusty and we’re lacking real cover in every area of defence including goalkeepers.
None of this in any way is intended to take any polish off last night but with a bit more quality across the park, especially if it means quality challenging quality for starting places, we will be more ready to take on the Champion’s League Pot 1s and Pot 2s.
Of course, as BAD keeps saying, we need Brendan at the wheel!
Brendan picked the team that I didn’t think he would pick, so, happy to be wrong on that one. Thought he would start with Taylor and Idah.
We can’t complain too much about the final outcome, Bayern played the better football over the two legs. Celtic just a bit short in composure and decision making when the chances came. If we can improve our attacking play in the middle third of the pitch then draws could be turned to wins. Get the summer recruitment spot on and we could be on to something.
Plenty of evidence that refs lean towards the elite clubs in Euro competitions, probably more for career progression that club bias. Human nature.
How good will followers of Feyenoord and Club Brugge be feeling this morning ? Cloud nine. Their favourites didn’t play against Serie A or the respective cash turnovers of AC Milan and Atalanta, they just went toe-to-toe against the players in front of them. And won. Small Leagues 2 Big League 0 . Let that be the next step for Brendan and Celtic.
Dermot Desmond was in attendance in Munich last night. We can only hope that he is now even more Team Brendan than Team Peter.

I’m not defending him and had no intent in doing so although I was taking a risk my post would be given that meaning.
I get that.
No my post wasn’t to defend but to understand the source of such anger.
I’m like that as in what do people think what they think?
Why is a post that tries to find out more seen as defending Mag?
Truth be told I’m sad he sees life in the way he does.
Nothing wrong with that surely?
