Put yer money where your mouth is Celtic!
We’ve been in this position before. Talented players making their mark domestically and on the continent, squad needing not broken up or pushed out the door but rather reinforced with more quality in key positions, a Celtic minded manager with a grit and determination towards making our beloved a genuine force against any club in any league.
We were handed the slow lane just over 20 years ago, it was a cruel and bitter blow to see the juggernaut sold for parts rather than refurbished to a better standard, but yet form then to now many building blocks have been laid, foundations that are supposed to keep Celtic from deliberately veering into the slow lane again.
It’s widely recognized the Seville team peaked that season, but this bunch haven’t. That squad hit its height, that group of players gave their all, but their value was decreasing, wage bill high, and the slow lane was to balance the books.
That process lead to this point, it took a while but football operations and the accounting department hit their jackpot this season. This campaign was very memorable, very significant, and very lucrative.
It’s widely said our manager never had equal/top talent to call up from the bench on Tuesday. Since Seville with players being younger in general plus the five subs rule, it’s a squad game more than ever.
And there’s no financial crisis looming with the highly paid first team about to hit mid 30’s and all leave for free.
Celtic are in a position of strength.
To enter the slow lane would be unforgivable, and inexplicable.
To continue to invest, which is paying off handsomely, would go a long way to show boardroom and supporter ambitions are aligned.
A long way towards trust and faith between both.
And not only that, our stock has never been higher meaning the odds of good investments just improved.
There wasn’t a single broadcaster, podcast, agent and player cum observer who wasn’t transfixed by events in Munich. Games like that can sway the public to have admiration, and a previously out of reach player to put pen to paper.
And there’s the elephant in the room, our managers short length of contract.
I imagine a spree of talented 22/23 year olds arriving would not only signify backing your man, but increase his desire to hang around and scale higher up the mountain.
Good players in their early 20s with talent and legs, exactly what our bench was missing in Munich.
The summer window and a contract extension will be inexplicably linked for better or worse.
Traditionally it’s at this point I would hope for the best and prepare for the worst, but on this occasion I’m not accepting that at all. Not while are in the rudest of health, not while squad improvement is easily affordable.
It’s said Ange exposed Celtic’s lack of ambition, well Brendan has certainly put those ambitions front and centre.
There’s no hiding place, no excuses can be made.
It’s literally time for a club ‘that aims’ to be world class in everything we do to put (some of) their money where their mouth is, because you were 3/4/5 signings away from shaking the entire footballing world just days ago.
This summer transfer window should be all about one thing and one thing only, Celtic flexing their muscle.
“We’ve got something special here” said the King of Kings, 20 odd years later of getting the books, signing philosophy, and hierarchy correct,, it’s ringing loud and true once again. We’ve no barriers, no accountants in the way.
Our glass ceiling was one blow away from shattering for good.
This summer must bring the final hammer, or else.

Again agreed, and getting our youth set up out of Scottish football would be a massive step in the right direction imo?

I understand that you might not agree, but wouldn’t give the SFA, the steam of my piss, for all we get in return from them.
The cheating mibs will remain an ever ongoing issue for us to contend with.
Even cost ourselves on Tuesday, with not applying the darker acts of the game, with buying much needed time for a tiring team like ourselves at the time.
We don’t get such decisions within Scottish football, so can be to honest for our own good at CL level, because the SFA allows for different rules to be applied to different teams?
As they remain unfit for purpose, then they can stick there grassroots program up there?

Which is why I mentioned SG as a channel.
Of course SFA reform in which cause I’ve been active since 2013 would remove the concerns that made me suggest an alternative.
Can I add that if you had been following my input for quite a time including raising a shareholder motion to change how Referees are appointed that did not get enough support in spite of a general recognition it made sense I doubt you would have asked the question. Check this link.

Absolutely brilliant 2 goals in 4 minutes from the little Argentinian.

It was DeBartolo Sr. Sr. who bought the 49’ers in the late ’70’s for around 10 million. The DeBartolo family owned one of the largest, if not the largest, property development companies in the US. They owned various sporting franchises, including the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL. The 49’ers were passed to his son, who was forced to give up his holdings due to criminal behaviour, but he simply transferred controle of the team to his sister. The family still own it. So, a 10 million investment is now a 9 billion asset. These people are unscrupulous and will play the long game.
PS.. I know you are a fan of Powell S.J., but he is not someone I would be putting up as someone to emulate. He was seen as more of a lightweight pop pyschologist type as opposed to a serious thinker, and that was before the about 20 women and children (including very young girls – children actually – for example) came forward and accused him of grooming and sexual predation. There was more than a bit of evidence of grooming and other predatory behaviors on his part over an extended period. My sense is that the Jesuits, who ended up paying a fair number of settlements because of his behavior, sort of ignore him now and hope that his memory fades from existence. Doesnt mean everything he said was wrong, of course, but, he is not someone I would be holding up as a role model or someone to learn from.
I may have mentioned this before, and if I have, and you are still comfortable with his work, feel free to disregard this, and no offence intended by me.
Alkmaar up 1-0 over Galatasaray (5-1). Japanese Maikama.
Auldheid,
Yes, the Glazer family made significant money from Manchester United during their ownership, despite criticism from fans over their financial management of the club.
How the Glazers Made Money from Man United
1. Dividends & Payments to Themselves
The Glazers extracted over £1 billion from Manchester United in dividends, share sales, management fees, and interest payments.
Between 2016 and 2022, they took £166 million in dividends, making United the only Premier League club regularly paying dividends to owners.
2. Share Sales for Personal Profit
In 2021 and 2023, the Glazers sold shares worth £446 million but kept the proceeds for themselves instead of reinvesting in the club.
They never reinvested a single penny of share sale proceeds into Manchester United.
3. Loading Debt onto the Club
When the Glazers bought Manchester United in 2005 for £790 million, they borrowed heavily instead of using their own money.
They placed this debt on the club, costing over £1 billion in interest payments since 2005.
The club is still in debt (£507 million as of 2024) due to their leveraged buyout.
4. Selling a 25% Stake to INEOS
In 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS bought a 25% stake in Manchester United for £1.3 billion.
This deal directly benefited the Glazers, as they profited from the sale while still maintaining control over the club.
Final Verdict: Did They Make Money?
Yes, the Glazers profited massively from their ownership of Manchester United, taking over £1 billion out of the club while increasing its valuation. However, their financial strategy left United with debt, decaying infrastructure, and growing fan frustration.
I only mentioned Manchester United and the Dallas Cowboys because the Govan Cowboys are now entering Charles Green territory. He will be having a right titter about this. Bennet I reckon has security over this years ST income for his 13m loan and wants out. That’s how I’m reading things.

Like yourself, I thought only 5 midfielders was a massive risk factor also.
Made worse that McCowan came in last minute to help with the homegrown quota requirements.
In return iwata was let go, and Holm didn’t happen in development terms.
So we have done remarkable well, without such an important area within the squad, not really covered to a sufficient standard all round imo?
But would like to think that this season is still very much a learning curve, with the increased amount of games and the interference international football brings to ourselves, especially in future campaigns?
Even so, like many, I would hope that a proper number 6 player was added within our squad?
But with calmac, does that require a change in team shape in order to facilitate such a player required?
Getting such a player who could be regarded as a huge asset for ourselves, in potentially 20 games in a season, is going to be a big ask to potentially find?
Especially if a change of shape isn’t within Rodgers plans?
Even the striker role?
Could we get a potential better option than Maeda, within the price bracket we operate within?
Maybe another left sided option is an easier option to find, and that has to be better than what yang could develop into?
Sort of questions that Rodgers has to currently decide upon as the best solutions.
And even then, I still don’t think Ange will be in the hotseat at spurs next season, so a potential replacement could be in the offering.
Could we say with any real confidence that Rodgers name wouldn’t get thrown into the mix, if such a sernario was to develop?

I was saddened to Powell exposed as a paedophile.
It became a label for you to make your point about not heeding what he had to say that spoke to my level which does not involve a university type delve into philosophy.
Having taken part in a JP inspired Fully Human Fully Alive Program with folk going through grief and seeing the difference it made to them and me, then I’m not one for throwing out the baby with the bathwater because of the views based on deeper delving.
For me the deciding factor is what works and what doesn’t. Not who advocated an opinion based on their intent.
JPs opinion worked for me and many others struggling with their loss.
I very much doubt Trumps philosophy (how does he compare to JP in label terms?) will work although it will take the painful consequences manifest by it not working that will see the error of its ways.
Coming from Canada where Trumpism and it’s consequences appear not to be welcomed I thought you might be less firm in your belief that Trumpism as reflected by the 49ers just overiding football law has already won.
The fight has not yet got underway.
With Feyenoord eliminating Milan, PSV beating Juve, and now AZ Alkmaar and Twente leading at Galatasaray and Bodo/Glimt, Dutch football is certainly experiencing a resurgence.
Bobby,

Celtic have a huge financial advantage, but as we have seen over the past decade, seem unwilling to use that advantage to put too much distance between the two halves of the OF. As PityM and others have suggested, there has been a decade where Celtic could have and should have been building up a decent program, but didn’t.
===
Apart from not foreseeing 13 years ahead to the changes in football, who built the cash stock that now allows Celtic to invest more?
Would that be available now had the slow lane that recognised financial realities of the time not been followed?
Ok it was painful at the time but a phrase No pain, no gain” pops into my head.
Are we guilty of remembering the pain too much and seeing no gain?
Pafos up 2-1 (3-2) over Omonia.

He did. Milking the prevailing culture for personal gain. A bit like main stream media still.
Having twice been involved in a firm that attracted the attentions of “investment” companies, if I was a thinking hun fan I would be very wary. They are not sugar daddies, far from it. They are looking for a return on their investment at minimal cost to themselves. Asset stripping was the order of the day. Anything with any value was sold to cover their investment costs, all spending budgets were slashed to a bare minimum. They had no concern for staff – the first lot, on completion of their takeover, immediately fired an entire level of management. The 2nd lot cancelled all scheduled works and set about selling as many properties as they could.
I see their lunatic fans and msm are rejoicing at the prospect of getting their hands on the mighty dollar, but I reckon they’re in for a rude awakening if the incoming money men get started on cost cutting. What they’ve seen so far will look tame in comparison.
