Put yer money where your mouth is Celtic!

We’ve been in this position before. Talented players making their mark domestically and on the continent, squad needing not broken up or pushed out the door but rather reinforced with more quality in key positions, a Celtic minded manager with a grit and determination towards making our beloved a genuine force against any club in any league.

We were handed the slow lane just over 20 years ago, it was a cruel and bitter blow to see the juggernaut sold for parts rather than refurbished to a better standard, but yet form then to now many building blocks have been laid, foundations that are supposed to keep Celtic from deliberately veering into the slow lane again.
It’s widely recognized the Seville team peaked that season, but this bunch haven’t. That squad hit its height, that group of players gave their all, but their value was decreasing, wage bill high, and the slow lane was to balance the books.
That process lead to this point, it took a while but football operations and the accounting department hit their jackpot this season. This campaign was very memorable, very significant, and very lucrative.
It’s widely said our manager never had equal/top talent to call up from the bench on Tuesday. Since Seville with players being younger in general plus the five subs rule, it’s a squad game more than ever.
And there’s no financial crisis looming with the highly paid first team about to hit mid 30’s and all leave for free.

Celtic are in a position of strength.
To enter the slow lane would be unforgivable, and inexplicable.
To continue to invest, which is paying off handsomely, would go a long way to show boardroom and supporter ambitions are aligned.
A long way towards trust and faith between both.
And not only that, our stock has never been higher meaning the odds of good investments just improved.
There wasn’t a single broadcaster, podcast, agent and player cum observer who wasn’t transfixed by events in Munich. Games like that can sway the public to have admiration, and a previously out of reach player to put pen to paper.

And there’s the elephant in the room, our managers short length of contract.
I imagine a spree of talented 22/23 year olds arriving would not only signify backing your man, but increase his desire to hang around and scale higher up the mountain.
Good players in their early 20s with talent and legs, exactly what our bench was missing in Munich.
The summer window and a contract extension will be inexplicably linked for better or worse.

Traditionally it’s at this point I would hope for the best and prepare for the worst, but on this occasion I’m not accepting that at all. Not while are in the rudest of health, not while squad improvement is easily affordable.
It’s said Ange exposed Celtic’s lack of ambition, well Brendan has certainly put those ambitions front and centre.
There’s no hiding place, no excuses can be made.
It’s literally time for a club ‘that aims’ to be world class in everything we do to put (some of) their money where their mouth is, because you were 3/4/5 signings away from shaking the entire footballing world just days ago.

This summer transfer window should be all about one thing and one thing only, Celtic flexing their muscle.
“We’ve got something special here” said the King of Kings, 20 odd years later of getting the books, signing philosophy, and hierarchy correct,, it’s ringing loud and true once again. We’ve no barriers, no accountants in the way.
Our glass ceiling was one blow away from shattering for good.
This summer must bring the final hammer, or else.

I’ve seen enough. I would definitely take a punt on this guy.

Can do for us what Agathe did many moons ago.
Fast as a lightning bolt. An absolute nightmare for any fullback.
BADA, if you have any contacts at Celtic Park, a quiet word in somebody’s ear to at least check it out?’

Galtasaray fans have thanked Celtic fans for their unwavering support for Palestine after unveiling a banner in honour of the Hoops ahead of their Europa League game this evening.

Wonder if they’ll be fined😏

Free kebabs if wearing Hoops then?
Honestly, that’s a lovely gesture and a great example it’s more than a game.
We should arrange a pre season friendly between the 2.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, as was caught up watching more hoops heartbreak tonight.

Anyway done something, I have been meaning to do for years, involving the impact of a third of our squad will the 8 homegrown rule, and the minutes contributed within a European campaign.

This is after what could be described as a very decent campaign for ourselves, with room to improve still hopefully?
But the following set of figures, could be regarded as a huge issue for concern, upon the future of the bigger picture imo?
These are the minutes provided by homegrown players within this season CL campaign.
Baring in mind, individual minutes, which would consist of 990 minutes per game.

Slovan. 232 homegrown min
Dortmund 139
Atalanta 114
Leipzig. 158
Brugge. 163
Zagreb 268
Young boys 159
Villa 216
Bayern (h) 155
Bayern (a) 90

Total. 1694 minutes from homegrown players out of 9900 individual playing minutes within CL.
Take the 900 minutes from calmac away, and 794 left.
And the majority produced from Taylor, who many wouldn’t even class as CL quality in the first instance?
Even getting replaced by Tierney, should hopefully improve such figures, but this with a massive question mark against fitness and availability in operation?

This is where we currently find ourselves as the best and most successful club ever in Scottish football.
But find it very alarming to where we potentially could find ourselves in a few seasons time in this regard?
Putting extra playing demands upon our 17 other players within our squad, will take its toll, within an increasing demand of matches, especially when we are looking to be in the market for international quality players for ourselves.

This season is only a benchmark for what future campaigns could be like, and that’s without knowing where we currently stand within the coefficient standing. That also stands to bring an increase in matches, whilst trying to form a squad for the season ahead?
All of this in play for ourselves, with a greater demand for our Scottish homegrown players to contribute more minutes towards SPFL, in order for a better rotation policy in place for these higher profile CL matches.

So this current policy of keeping the background staff within coaching, especially at younger levels, just isn’t going to meet the demands of where our intentions for the club, to be heading in as things currently stands imo?

Pitymevin… from memory, the Development Squad Euro games were sold as an alternative to the Reserve League and would be beneficial in providing valuable experience against quality opposition. It didn’t last but for the record it wasn’t a Celtic initiative, it was the League and the clubs who signed up for it. I wouldn’t blame Celtic either for its design nor its failure!
Where do hold Celtic to account is in their silence and apparent intransigence to meaningfully own an issue that affects not only our Club but all of the Scottish kids who have designs on a career in fitba.

Johnno…good work on those numbers and I can’t say I’m surprised. But for the reasons I’ve gone into a million times it’s not all Celtic’s fault but as I’ve just posted as the biggest club in the land they should be doing more to make the situation better.
As an aside I had a wee chat with the guy next to me at Parkheid about the Half Time Draw, how much it makes per game etc. Now, the cash from this is supposed to go straight to Youth Development. It got me wondering if that is all they spend or if other cash from elsewhere is invested in the Youth Department.
