It’s Deja-vu all over again
Pre-season week is here, and of course Celtic (aiming to be world class in every area) are not ready. Thats actually an understatement, it’s utlerly shambolic not to have coaches entering Pre-season week nevermind new players.
We were told of a busy few weeks ahead two weeks ago, and its been a fortnight of silence. It took weeks of talking to reach an agreement instead of getting Shaun and Fozzie to sign the dotted line. That doesn’t auger well for our summer negotiations with potential signings and their agents. One third of the off-season completely wasted bar securing a manager, they very bare minimum a board must do.
They are asleep at the wheel and we can sense the crash coming.
Eyeing up.
In discussions.
Considering a move.
This is insane because we all know theres big cash arriving, they/he either can’t or won’t sanction moves armed with that knowledge? That certainly is holding the club back and this off-season so far is as much removed as possible from world class.
I think we are certain to break the 200m income barrier this year due to the big fees for our players, and probably CL money. It might be closer to 250m if many players depart. We’ve never been richer, more compliant with FSR, we’ve shed a ton of salaries. We will have over 100m in the bank when the window shuts.
Will we have a decent side?
If we don’t that will be the ultimate breaking of the social contract with the board of directors, we provide the money and you spend it.
Having heard the promises last year that lessons had been learned and improvement is around the corner, more promises just wont cut it.
The unity and truce found in the last few months of last season will be cast aside. If this window/start to the season is not just disastrous but seriously underwhelming, fan action will ramp up massively. It would be extremely unfair on Martin to foster the environment that would see his final ever campaign marred by disruptions and boycotts, depriving him of his special place and fully joyfull departure memories.
It need be thus, as well you know. Of course I hope we are getting our ducks in a row but I’ve been let down too many times holding onto that same hope. We did actually put in a bid, rejected as too little. The report said we bid 3.5m and they are firm on 4.3. Why did we not know? Couldn’t call? From a club that stood firm on Palma at 4.2 its cheeky and silly behavior.
I view Marcelo Scirrachi as a bit of a litmus test. At first I thought there’s no chance they will sanction two left backs on big wages but his reduced transfer fee changes the equation because our two million players are usually a punt, and there is now a path to profiting on the player when he leaves. They might swallow his wage demands easier but not only that its a no brainer to help Martin by signing a player who needs no introduction giving the gaffer more time to look elsewhere.
It’s said the manager wants him this week for a full preparation campaign, lets see if he gets his way, and access our urgency in the matter. This particular deal will give us a good insight into our world class workings.
Our title rivals working actually do look world class compared to ours.
The second placed team have 5 new faces ready for pre-season, strength in depth, and it looks like a Dutchman will get the hotseat meaning fast passing football. The new manager of the 3rd placed team wants to control the game from the middle of the park judging by his targetting of Ferguson. He’s clearly got 6 odd million to spend on a midfielder then. The 4th placed side went with a young manager also, the data was of the charts, he will have good knowledge and contacts in his home market and will have about ten million to spend extra when Just and Maswanise are sold. None of the above is good news. All those signs point to being if not challenged then left behind.
Shaun and Fozzie early, and a media deluge of Big Cam training again with a smile, alongside some words from the manager saying hes a big strong man and a very good option with good experience which he likes. The mainstream media saying we are closing in on someone while running an “about to get serious” narrative.
That’s my expectations for this week. One day the rapidly changing modern world will leave stale and stagnant Celtic in the dust, the more we stay the same, the sooner that day comes.
Our approach so far has been creating our own problems, what Brendan warned about.
Once again we are not bedding in players properly.
Once again we dice with CL qualification.
Once again it was all lip service and words without adjusting behind the scenes.
Without change there will come a day when a large number of the support say Im not supporting this regime once again. And every transfer window brings it closer.

Our charity drives over the last two years are a credit to you, our readers, and to CHALMERSBHOY who set each of them up.
So far we have raised an amazing £12,000+ plus Gift Aid. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this, you are all wonderful and generous people. You should rightfully feel significant pride in that.
Our current charity campaign, as ever for a charity of your choice, will continue until July 31st 2026. Nominated via these pages, and chosen as the most worthy by our contributors, it is
Chidren’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS)
Nominated by BAWHEID, and overwhelmingly the landslide winner of the vote. We have surpassed our first two targets, with the total now over £5000.

Mahe…..try and be a bit more pessimistic. FFS!,,,is life that bad in California?
It’s only a year to go before awe you fuckin tubes buy season tickets again
Pessimistic?
One year ago I sat here typing if Idah is away for big money and we still haven’t spent the Kyogo money then Brendan is getting a peach. We are spending.
He got emptied.
Show me another team that doesn’t have coaches on the books?
One young striker and Johnny Kenny in a 200m plus turnover year.
Never been richer but never been worse run.
I’m happy. I like to think I’m intelligent, I’ve been intelligent enough to work my way into a good position in life.
Celtic through its majority shareholder are upsetting me because I cannot fully buy into nor understand the club I love’s methods, and I know I’m not alone.
As mentioned above we might hit 250m income this year and thats the next rung on the ladder. Europe mot SPL, 60k per week for 40. They will bank it and football will take second place to the balance sheet once again.
No disrespect intended.
I want a football club, not a clothing brand outlet trading on emotion and history.
Hail Hail
Cape Verde
isn’t that where Henrik originated from?
Mahe , why are you surprised?
St. Tams,
Normally I wouldn’t be but to do this to Martin is abhorrent. He would fling his last friend in football and the two time rescuer under the bus?
Thats not a man I would associate myself with.
Thats not Celtic class.
If Celtic FC fail Martin, thats our batsignal that things need saving.
Hail Hail
MAHE
200m turnover? Eh? Izzat Australian dollars? Pesos? Yen? Cos we’ve not been near 200m in sterling, that’s for sure.
Not likely to be either if the board keep coming the c..t about signings.

Pulled in 143 last year.

You just smashed 200m and then some.
…. And don’t forget the £70m in the bank
At last, a signing
Mags it will be 100 in the bank soon. I need to write an article on how insane that is.
Mahe
Hopefully some of the larger shareholders not on the board, have seen the light…and will be challenging DD’s hegemony at Celtic Park. It is indeed disrespectful to MON, the way that these bassas on the board are behaving.
Mags
Spot on. Henrik’s dad Francisco was born in the Cape Verde archipelago.

Thought i recognised the name of the Egypt manager Hossan Hassan.he scored 4 against us for Neuchatel Xmax in a 5-1 loss in Uefa Cup early 90’s.
come on New Zealand!!

A couple of the mates from work went to that particular game. On a supporters’ bus. Spent a feckin’ fortune. Twas probably one of the highlights of the early 90s. 😁☘️

Brian O’Neil scored our goal

Drew i went to that game on 1 of 2 buses organised by celtic that left from outside the stadium. The buses stopped overnight in France and the organiser who got on the bus in London disappeared with all the cash. That was a crazy trip with a nightmare score on a baltic night 🥶
Managed decline, we are trying to throw it away, it’s on purpose. Why?
I was doing well until I saw the name Neuchatel Xmax. Cheers Drew!!!

Unfortunately that was the usual back then.anything that could go wrong went wrong.

When you look at the top 5 leagues in Europe all have strong national teams except Italy. It is incredible that they haven’t qualified for the last 3 world cups. Here’s a possible explanation. England, France, Spain and even Germany have African players or players of African heritage, whether it’s from North Africa or Sub-Saharan Africa. You can add Portugal, Belgium, Holland and even Norway and Sweden to this list. Italy has few players from Africa. I guess it’s a legacy of colonialism. There aren’t many players coming out of Libya or Ethiopia.
England have had a much stronger national team than Scotland in recent history and I think this coincides with the emergence of black players. The future is black and the future is already here.
Maybe we could consider opening some kind of coaching set-up in Kenya or Malawi or even South Africa to harness some of the talent emerging from the continent. If only we had some spare cash in the bank to invest in africa.

Drew the funny thing was when the 2 bus loads were all left stranded in France everyone was looking to find the quickest way to Switzerland no one was looking at how to get back home 😂

Lets hope there is something to this.
Time for Despot and the Lackeys tyrannical grip on Celtic to end!
Westcraigs
It’s mental Celtic haven’t (with £70m in bank), even tapped into a feeder academy in ,say Belgium or France or even England. The young talent is out there .
That said, re Scotland, Clarke should still be getting a better tune out of that squad of players at tournaments. Jeezo, Cape Verde matching teams 60 or 70 places above them in the rankings.
San Luis
Have to agree with BAD as it looks like self sabotage under Despot and the Lackeys.
Can’t see any other reason for their behaviour!
Fan
I can’t agree. A lack of diversity in the boardroom leads to a lack of diversity in thinking. We’re old, male and stale and time is catching up.
History is full of giants who fell because they didn’t adapt.
That’s where we’re at now. Crucial months ahead.

Desmond?🥲

MON, being made manager , makes no difference.
He’s tight with the Desmonds, so there will be no change in strategy.
Not that we’ve got one
Grateful thanks once again to Mr and Mrs Kitts for a great time in sunniest Essex. A five star review is forthcoming!
Again, don’t see Celtic doing much till after end year financial date – 30th June- passes.
Thereafter, I expect a glut of new signings followed by a good few sales.
I think we are certain to break the 200m income barrier this year due to the big fees for our players, and probably CL money. It might be closer to 250m if many players depart.

Don’t be surprised if it sales before signings
if we dont se;; before the deadline turnover will be 110m ish.
With every decision of any consequence having to be run by a guy with 30 odd per cent of shares nothing will change. The puppet board or an alternative puppet board will be in place. Sterile unable to make decisions without going to the micromanager. It is an absolute farce and will ever be thus whilst he has support of Lindsell train and others.
Jeewiz, How long is this Starmer crap going on for?
Been on the BEEB all day so far.
Even went to Morrisons there and an old geezer asked “What do you think about Starmer resigning” I don’t think CGAF was the answer he was looking for.
Thank feck for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The board are there at the behest of Despot.
I ultimately think his iron grip on Celtic has contributed to the ever continuing decline of Scottish football.
We in our mediocrity and old fashioned brand of football are the standard to aim for.
Consequently decline of youth , uncompetitive in Europe and a type of football that was outdated years ago.
Re-employing Mon, Maloney and Fotheringham shows we see no need to involve.
Ultimately our European failure has us only capable of recruiting prospects whose aim is a short tenure or second rate players who will never reach the top.
I believe the longer the prioritising The Old Firm plan continues the faster the decline will accelerate.
Eventually 3 and 4th rate signings will be the norm as we will have no European standing.
I understand the frustration associated with each transfer bid needing to be approved by DD. That process completely eliminates nimbleness in the transfer market. But here is a thought for MN and CM. Take Ivan Basic and Zinedin Smajlovic as examples…the first was originally valued at 2 million and Celtic allegedly bid 3.5 million for the latter. When MN and CM go seeking approval for bids, do not ask for the market value, seek a buffer above market value. So, get 3 million approved for Basic and 4.5 million for Smajlovic. Initially bid, 2 million and 3.5 and then immediately increase those bids within their thresholds.
If we really want Smajlovic and his club want 4.3 million, just pay it and get the deal done. MN and CM should over value targets when seeking budget approvals.

Other reports saying no contact with Saracchi’s agent or club
Last season as the summer window was about to close , and after I had purchased my season ticket again . I posted on here that I had made a mistake ,we weren’t going to bring in the players we needed to be a force in Scotland again ,and increase our chances of progressing in Europe . I also informed you all that I was a club supporter of over 68 years seeing my first game in 1957 , nothing special in that , loads of guys who sit at Celtic park can beat that , but for the first time in my life I wasn’t enjoying our club being controlled by one guy ,who by his decisions proved to me he had no ambition for our club , I decided no more from me and didn’t renew my long held season ticket . I will be watching Celtic from the comfort of my home . Many of you will no doubt be saying we won the double , we did thankfully but no thanks to the suits . MON. Got them out of jail ,but even that success at the death last season hasn’t stopped him/ them having another go at destabilising the peoples club . Nothing will change as long as that guy rules the club . I am Celtic through and through but what is being done with Celtic is not for me .
