The Best A Man Can Get
Morning, all.
We have had some positive news from Celtic in the last few days. The club have finally reached agreement with Maloney and Fozzie to stay in position for next season and possibly beyond. We’ve also lured Ross Grant away from Hearts as our new Set Pieces Coach. He is being flagged up as a replacement for Gavin Strachan, who apparently was our previous set pieces coach. Nae offence, but none of us were aware we even had a set pieces coach, and most of us just wondered what Strachan did.
I’ll mark that one down then as a much needed improvement.
Meanwhile, all of the chatter on Timternet is about who will leave and how much we will get for them. Little talk of incoming, you’ll notice. I don’t actually think this is expectation management as much as I think it’s a sign of just how dysfunctional our club is. We are always on the front foot when someone waves a tenner in front of us, but we’ve ducked into the toilets when a signing opportunity arises.
Today is the last day of the financial year. That means that any signings made from now on come out of next year’s balance sheet, while any in the last fortnight would have come out of the current year-a balance sheet which we will discover in about ten weeks time has been holed below the waterline. This is not because our beloved custodians went out and spent big to support an assault on Europe. They did the opposite, stripped what they could and pocketed the cash while undermining the highly successful man in charge. The fans initiated a merchandise boycott as a result, hence the holed balance sheet. The club responded by firing that highly successful manager, sending an SOS to a club legend last appointed over a quarter of a century previously, then bumped him off too in favour of some guy from a Canadian convent school or something.
Cost us about £8m to hire and fire that yin. Plus 12 points and a league cup. And a showing up against the huns at Celtic Park. In our own home, to paraphrase a certain well known line.
Thankfully, sense prevailed. Back comes the veteran, et voila double in the bag. Surely we won’t make all those mistakes again. Last season, by popular acclaim, saw the worst squad since 1994, but we scraped through. It’s obvious the squad needs a major rebuild. We’ve got the money, etc. Naw. The only chat is about who is leaving and how much we will get for them.
This isn’t because the Celtic fans WANT to sell a single one of them, btw. It’s for two reasons. One, we know that’s how the club works. Two, we know that’s how the club works.
There is a well-worked pattern in off-field Scottish football, designed to soothe the fevered brows of the gullible amongst the support. One is that R2ngers win The Pre-season Cup, much coveted by their predecessors, and the other is that a couple of weeks later, Celtic parade The Glorious Balance Sheet. There are mugs amongst each support who have fallen for these ruses year after year, and while the occasional few finally come to their senses and go public without an apology for previously supporting a rotten regime, others still cling to the conviction that Brendan Rodgers is to blame for everything.
Apparently it was his fault that Nancy was hired, because Tisdale insisted on the appointment being made and Rodgers insisted on Tisdale being appointed. I’m going to leave that hanging just there, in the vain hope that someone can make some sense of it. That Rodgers phoned the club and asked for a useless twat to be appointed as his boss.
My article last week was titled tumbleweed. You tell me what has changed. There is nothing coming from our club that makes me think that we have intentions of building a side capable of competing in the Champions League. Yes, of course there is an outside possibility that the squad we have on 4 September will be good enough for Scotland, but that is a mile short of what a club like ours should be aiming for. There’s a list a mile long of clubs from leagues like ours who punch much heavier than we do with similar resources. Most of them sell their stars for more than us-but they reinvest. And they know exactly who and what they are looking for with that reinvestment. Every time.
Every time.
Every time they want better. More expensive than previously. A higher bar. More potential. All the things we try to avoid in our own race to the bottom. Aye, we’ll sign potential, we’ve signed plenty of it. If you judge potential as useless elsewhere, but cannae possibly be as bad with us.
Think about that one. All those players with “potential” that we’ve signed. All those millions wasted, but we wouldn’t go the extra £100k to get a proper player over the line.
There’s literally dozens of them. I’ll start you off with Mo Bangura and Amido Balde.
Have fun naming others. Me, I’m off to hide the razor blades.

Should of been landing in Birmingham in the next hour and a half, as it happens we’re still in Punta Cana until at least midday,Tuesday so won’t get back to Birmingham until early hours of Wednesday morning.🤬🤬
Bummer, Craig. Nothing worse than flight delays when you’re in the bloody airport!
BMCUWP
To top it off I can’t get a refund on my train tickets, I can only change the date and time so that’s another £50, only plus is tui will owe us £520 each.
Safe home Craig.
I’m surprised that German goal was chopped off by VAR. Not that I don’t think the keeper was impeded, just that it was a decision going against a favoured nation for the first time in this tournament by FIFA officials.

Good morning friends and a Big Happy Balance Sheet Day!

Get it De Roon ye…
The signing of Ross Grant as a set piece coach is a tremendous piece of business. I read a lot of articles about him last year knowing he was a lifelong hoops fan and hoping we might get him.
it’s not about scoring direct free kicks. It’s about analysing the opposition and knowing how to attack and defend free kicks and throw ins first phase second phase third phase. Hearts scored 25 set piece goals last season. Not sure how many they conceded but it wasn’t many,
Hopefully gone are the days where we take 20 minutes over a throw in or win a free kicks 30 yards out play a short pass and send it all the way back to our own keeper.
Think we will see a completely different style next season and that might mean Calmac moving to Saudi.
H3
Calmac leaving for Saudi. Ox not retained. Hatate, Nygren and Engels on the make us an offer list. Looks like McArdle might get a game next season.
Bobby
Dont worry mate. The English window closes a day before ours. By that time we will know if we have hit our target of 150m in the bank and we’ll be able to snap up all the dregs from the window.
H3
Ah, some long overdue positivity on this site.
Needed that. Thanks, mate.
Bobby,
Yeah still here, Mick, just lose interest in the summer now cause, let’s be honest, they are becoming totally predictable.
Haven’t watched a minute of the world cup too. It’d also be pointless asking me what happened in the latter stages of the champions league.
Still usually have a quick look here in the morning with a coffee. I’m fairly sure I could have written a script that described what the club would be doing, and what the fans would be saying.
For the 5th year in a row – any chance we might get a defensive midfielder??
Hope you’re all well, and all the best to anyone struggling with real life stuff.
I’ll definitely be back when there’s hooped jerseys to be filled 👍
HH 🍀

Good to know that you are alive and kicking (hard), and that you’ll be back when the fitba starts. Thanks for dropping in. The World Cup so far has mainly been a difficult watch but at least it seems that Trump’s brownshirts have stayed out of the way. As for our club, I could talk about it all day and still be speechless. They seriously defy belief. I’m sure that there are laws and stock exchange regulations about office bearers deliberately trashing a listed company. Time someone considered using them.
This is for Big Packy, and anyone else who recognises the quality of players we used to have. Imagine even only having the “reserve” players available today……
SOL KITTS
Hi Sol:
I see NINE trophies there. At the end of 1967, we had seven, and I thought that was our max.
Some of these look like old fashioned ‘Tilly’ lamps.😊
Can anyone name all nine?
HH
INIQUITOUS IV😊
HI SOL thanks for posting that photo,,davie cattenach jim brogan john cushley names we have forgotten I watched them all, that shows you how old Iam😎😎
INQ4 ill have a guess, scottish cup, league cup, league trophy, glasgow cup, st mungo cup,. empire exhibition trophy, and im lost after that😎😎😎😎
as a footnote young jimmy Quinn the grandson of the great jimmy quinn is in that photo, think ive told you a thousand times, the great jimmy quinn used to tell my oul da great stories about celtic he lived in the prefab 2 doors down from my father in CROY, Imagine a footballer of jimmy quinns ability living in a prefab nowadays😎 that brings me sadly to young Jimmy quinn, the last time I saw him was1990, he was telling celtic stories to anyone who would buy him a pint ,and he would finish the pint in 2 seconds flat, what a waste of talent,HAIL HAIL
The Morocco-Netherlands game, played late last night in the superb Monterrey stadium in Mexico, was an enthralling watch. The North Africans patiently tried to tempt the Dutch towards them, and the Dutch were equally determined not to let them.
On change of possession, each went like lightning at the opposition goal, only to be thwarted by world class defenders. The discipline, skill, speed, athleticism, and physicality on show was simply superb.
I was really impressed by the Morocco manager. Last year, I watched Morocco win the U-23 World Cup and I knew nothing about him. Last night, he was savvy enough to remove his 18 year old superstar Bouaddi at the right time. I watched the kid all game. Patrolled the center of the park, very skillful, always in space available for a pass, always found a team mate with a pass. Then as the game went on, more and more I realized it was a wee bit like watching Calum McGregor! The passes were mostly short, safe, and often backwards, he didn’t turn and go like most of his team mates did, even when afforded the space, and he was simply strolling around Pirlo-like. Looked good, but definitely not dynamic. The manager hooked him for El Mourabet, who did a ton of running, and suddenly the Dutch were under siege.
Fitba is a funny game, right enough. This team looked nervous and unsure of themselves the last 20 minutes against Scotland. Last night they looked capable of beating anyone.
That’s now 2 previous World Cup winners and a twice losing finalist already going home.
Bobby,
I wouldn’t have believed I’d ever get to the stage of almost completely losing interest in football. Not being a great sleeper should have meant the WC was a good way to kill some time, but i just have zero interest.
I can actually point to the very day my love of the game changed forever. The minute i realised we intended going along with the charade that was the death of the hun, that was the day my love of the game died too. What used to be anger has now been replaced by a sickening feeling. Like I said, the blackest day in all my time following the team.
My hatred for those responsible will never go away ..there is simply nothing they could do or say that would right that wrong ..and it’ll be a stain till the end of time.
I can’t get Celtic out my system, that’s never gonna happen, but there’s been such a change in my attitude toward the game, I don’t think I’d open the curtains if the champions league final was being played in my garden.
Our current bunch of basta ..erm, custodians appear to be able to suck the enjoyment out of absolutely anything they touch – they get to work on killing the buzz immediately after every success!. Then you have their creepy lackeys all over Celtic cyberspace, doing their best to defend them and their penny-pinching ways. I know they all don’t care how we\they are viewed, but how the club acts and looks matters to me!
When the Huns start winning regularly again (which will happen, as that’s what the last 15 years was all about) I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to stomach that. Believe me when I say I know that makes me sound like a glory hunter, but I’d be lying if I claimed anything else. McInnes lifting the league title possibly could be my parting image of Scottish football.
Scottish football used to be a joke, but I’m not sure how you’d even describe it now. I
Yeah, it’s definitely all Brendan’s fault ..obviously.

It’s a good laugh trying to do this on an Android phone while walking outside in the rain ☔
Drybrough cup?
And I seem to remember some cup called Merchants charity cup, or summit. 👍
BAD
Typing on a phone is a joke. You’d need to have pigmy sized fingers not to mess it up. It’s alright to say that spellcheck corrects the majority of mistakes-while also making you look like a twat when it gets it wrong-but it can’t correct numbers.
As for our custodians, I increasingly think the fan boycotts will have to continue. They’re playing the long game, so we will have to do that too. And as I said to a couple of mates yesterday, I’m seeing a repeat of 2008 onwards, when we gave them some titles to keep them solvent.
The answer to the trophy conundrum can probably be found somewhere on this page.

I’ve got a tenner on morroco at 50-1 .Canada next .Mon the rocs 🔥🍀💯💚

“I can actually point to the very day my love of the game changed forever. The minute i realised we intended going along with the charade that was the death of the hun, that was the day my love of the game died too”
That’s a disgraceful slur on our custodians who made it..er..quite clear…on page 59 of the Celtic View in May 2012 that Celtic had won the last ever Old Firm game.
I mean, really… they couldn’t have made their position any clearer could they?
Well, except, I suppose, referring to them as The Rangers in 2016 and welcoming them to Paradise for the first time.
I suppose we could also have done without Despot rejoicing in their arrival and saying what a great club they were.
Hmmm maybe it wasn’t such a disgraceful slur after all!
🤔
PS great to see you back posting.
Totally agree with big audio.,thats how I binned my season book.sickened with these cretins running Celtic, and there aleigance to the dead scum from govan.they should have been buried and never seen again in any form HH
CBRIGBHOY
I think everyone on here will agree with that. No way they should’ve been allowed to reform in 2012, keep the trophies etc, and bounce back into the league. There were very specific rules and laws against that.
INIQ1V
The lad from Morocco has a long way to go before you can compare him to Pirlo.Mate Pirlo was a world class player who maybe looked like he strolled about but was faster and sharper than you maybe think.he was lightning at changing direction and had an amazing passing range.he controlled most games.he also produced probably the 2nd best Panenka(after the original) of all time against Big Joe.Pirlo was one of the best players of his generation and was a joy to watch imho.
Hail hail mate
As I said to my daughter at the time of their demise, they will not be allowed to disappear.
What I did expect to see, should I visit the bigotdome again, is open their programme and see the honours list empty.
Now the existence of titles is the real disgrace, even the ebt one’s are still there 😡
As long as the set piece coach doesn’t come out the dugout when we get a FK,like that prk McPhee at Aston Villa…..a terrible look….
HI COATBRIGBHOY we could have a five a side going here im from glenboag belmont brian is whifflet I think, steve naive is in posh kirkshaws the real mcoy is in even posher muiryhall street😎😎
Billy.
Hey mate.
Part of what made us the club we fell in love with, was the fact that we were the good guys in this movie. We were the cowboys in the white hat.
I vividly remember being nervous waiting to see how we would deal with facing the new club for the first time in Paradise. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined we would act so weak and pitiful! When I saw the programme\ticket prior to the game, I actually felt physically sick. What makes it even worse is the knowledge that if the show was on the other foot they’d have made sure we got embarrassed.
Then Desmond opened his stupid fucking mouth ..the RAT!
Aye, you just know they’d have made sure the world knew they were playing a brand new club! Saying it is sickening just isn’t strong enough. It proves one thing though, Celtic is way more than simply a football team to us, and that’s part of the reason it is so hard to swallow.
It’s akin to when a family member badly let’s you down, or disappoints you.
If the hun only win one league cup in the next 10 years, it’ll still be one trophy too many for me.
HH 💚
The SPFL have announced that they will foil low FIFA’s direction bu adding hydration breaks during each half of SPFL games starting in the 2026/27. In an effort to make the games more interesting, Celtic have announced that all drinks will be supplied by Celtic’s sponsor, Magners.
From my typing, one would think I have had my own hydration breaks🤣
Unusual gesture by cops.
