And we’re back!

Tonight the world famous Glasgow Celtic burst back into action in an attempt to retain the SPL trophy for the 6th time in a row.

Z

The league started pretty much as it ended, Hearts and R2ngers unable to claim the 3 points, Derek fuming as usual, and Motherwell looking like a damn good footballing side again.

Are the Champions ready?
For a one-off game, probably.
For a season challenging on 4 fronts, nowhere near ready enough.
We all know who to blame but I do agree with the quality over quantity approach thats evident in the two we bought and those “we are trying” to buy. As complaining won’t help I’ll just move on from transfers and onto the game itself.

A starved of action support will turn out in maximum numbers primarily to see goals from our two new strikers. Whether they are paired together, how exactly they set up, is the question on everyone’s lips that is about to be answered. It will be a full house because of one of most anticipated debuts in my lifetime, we all want to see Hogh in the Hoops and if that swagger transcends onto the pitch. A couple of good goals or dare I say a hat-trick and we will genuinely start dreaming of another Treble and/or European impact spearheaded by the big viking who looks set to dominate defenses home and abroad. Having a proper forward gives us all reassurance, two gives us big ambitions, I sincerely hope tonight is the start of a successful partnership.

Our odds of victory are surely improved with AJ and Engels in the side, two players who whilst teammates today who ironically will probably face each other as rivals in England’s top flight next season. This might be the last time we each either as a Celtic player, savour it as much as you can.

Formation wise I do believe we will see another 4-3-3, if for no other reason that to get AJ and Arne into the team, and allow Duran and Kasper in the same side. That would obviously mean Duran on one of the flanks, but I imagine him coming inside a lot rather than a pure winger. I’ve been wondering if Nygren could benefit from them both meaning could he exploit the extra attention both are sure to receive, slip through the gaps so to speak, and do even more damage as the defense are occupied with our new dynamic duo? It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he actually benefits by fielding them, by attention being elsewhere.

Theres several “side quests” that are begging to be solved when you think about it.
Could Osmond go left and Duran right giving us three pure strikers on the field at once? He did exactly that with Sutton, Hartson, Henrik.
Could Hatton get minutes? It wouldn’t be a positive going forward if a youth player looking good is just bombed out when the season starts properly, I think he should be given some minutes from here on in order to improve.
Might Tonetki or Yang improve if they have a big targetman to aim for?
Will our setpiece plays look different now we have a specialist coach in that area?
Is CCV still the same player?
Will Reo be given his last minutes on the hallowed turf in order to give a proper goodbye?
Will Arne and AJ do a lap of honour signaling their departure?
Our family season books where in the Jock Stein stand and apparently its got spruced up over the summer, will that be noticable?

There’s no doubt about it, tonight begins a captivating journey, possibly Martin’s last journey with us. We will look different when the window closes but I for one wish to see a statement performance from those selected, a game to strike fear into Scotland and help get the ball rolling for a positive outcome in the CL qualifier.
I have no doubt the manager wishes the same.
Blow them away Celtic, set fire to the fuse of ambition, lets go on the marching again let both parties inspire each other.
Lets make it another special season that just like last year will live long in the memory.

Well done the bhoys job done. 3 points. Ridiculous scheduling for flag day. Dundee players looked fitter and more tactically in tune than us.

As long as we replace them with competent players then nobody is going to miss AJ or Engels. Take the money and run.

Yang cramping after 70 minutes. We need to be fitter and we need to move the ball faster.

It has to be said. Hogh and Duran doesn’t seem to help.

I think the 4 3 3 adherence is too dogged. We need to be able to surprise the opposition

Iniq,

It’s 2026 and we have first team players who’s wages are in the hundreds, not the hundreds of thousands. We try and do everything like the guy that goes to the bank with bags of coppers.

As i said earlier today, nothing has changed and I don’t see it happening with this coaching team.

If Birmingham still want Yang , I would give him away for free, absolute waste of space.

It the prices quoted are accurate, we have grossly undervalued AJ. The way money is today, definitely a £40m player.

11 wins in a row, so hard to grumble.

We’ll be much better if we finally buy a real ball winner for the middle of the pitch

August 3, 2026 9:48 pm

The highest price paid for a player outwith the top 5 leagues not including the Russian League ( ten years ago) is £25m. All of them from Holland and Portugal. None of them defenders

I’ve been backing Engels since he joined us. I keep expecting him to come on to a game.
I think I’ll give up now.

I can’t believe he stayed on for the full game. Lots of poor passes and an awful high risk pass that went straight to a Dundee player when he could’ve easily slipped CalMac in on goal. Unbelievable bad choice of pass and even worse execution

A win with a performance much like most of last season. Early days obviously. With the right service Hogh looks like he could be an asset, but goodness me our midfield is a shambles, slow moving forward, too many back passes, no tackling. Onwards and upwards, hopefully.

Interesting Hogh said he’s just getting used to playing on grass, never thought of that

Not a great performance but actually better than I thought it would be. Often the occasion distracts from the football to be played.

There were some moments of fluid play and, perhaps, that is to be expected in the first game.

Who (not Hogh) played well? Tierney and AJ played well with both CCV and Trusty being patchy dealing with high throws into the box.

Nygren continues to be an enigma….won the game acting as a CF; floated in and out of midfield and front three; worked hard. Calmac was Calmac but Engels was not Engels. His performance did nothing to enhance his chances of a move. Let’s hope his transfer is already advanced. Both his commitment and decision making were poor.

Duran looked like a fish out of water stuck out on the wing. He looked like he wanted to get into the box to shoot but both he and Yang were triple marked. We need to find a way of getting Duran inside more.

Yang is the same Yang from last season…probably the best of Tounekti, Balikwisha etc.

Too early to judge Hogh. If he relaxes, he will score. Let’s hope it is soon.

The squad is indeed thin and likely to get thinner.

Trump stops in the middle of a speech at the Oval Office to – I’m not joking – do a commercial/endorsement for Scott’s Miracle Grow Lawn Seed, as they had done some free work on the White House lawn. Have to wonder if he is getting paid by Coke. Surely, it won’t be long until Trump starts selling advertising space in the Oval Office and maybe on his clothes, like a NASCAR driver.

Hogh and. Duran need to adjust for Scottish game.
They will.
Our midfield is still our biggest issue.
Non combative or threatening.
only Nygren should keep his place.
Looks like players won’t be only area we’re short as coaching still playing horseshoe of death .
Looks like this season will continue decline of Scottish football.

Duran should have been moved to the middle and Forrest brought on 10mins earlier.

Duran could have used his superior ability to create little one two’s around the box..

A win and 3 points in the bag but not a great watch tonight. Thankfully Benji bailed us out again 🙏 and on that performance Duran is not a winger HH

Well that was pretty underwhelming. Looking for a 3-0 to take us to the top I’m just happy we managed to secure the 3 points.

On the plus side – we WILL win the league – the rest are crap. We are still light years ahead of the opposition domestically – regardless of who stays, goes or arrives. LASK will be an entirely different proposition!

I thought AJ looked very emotional at the end. Not good.

If Engels IS leaving then we need to move Calmac back up to his previous No 10 role and sign a proper No 6 in the Neil Lennon mode.

The current set up will just not do in Europe – especially if we beat LASK.

We are 6 games into the new season and the standard of football has been really dire. The spfl is heading to the level of 3rd English football, if we’re not already there.

Did McCowan even touch the ball?

If we’ve got problems just now , if Johnston leaves we’ve got bigger worries with the two stand in’s were left with , Doesn’t bear thinking about . Engels can go on performances £25 million will be a big ask imho

Missed game due to work, the first game is rarely Harlem Globetrotter stuff its gotta be said.

I thought todays news was interesting in that it helps explain the clubs strategy.

A 21 year old as back up left back, okay fair enough, then get Montgomery sold or out on loan.
A 21 year old right back lined up to replace AJ at 6.5m. He must be good with that valuation. That should see Colby out on loan to better assess.
Add in Genetis being 22, add in Baur being 22.

Conclusion?
Buying young but quality, 25 tops, to fill the squad with saleable assets who shall increase in value and turn a profit while helping today and next season.

Had it confirmed again today that players are coming. I guess thats why the gaffer is pulling his playing dumb act instead of pulling his hair out. He knows whats going on and isn’t stupid nor apparently worried. Fine by me.

Looks like age, wage, and future profit counted against Marcelo and Araujo and thats why we go elsewhere.

Lask eh, told you this morning ( your time, last night here) we would beat them. Can’t backtrack now.

Looks like I’ll be back in mother Ireland the last two weeks of August 27, and was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to get me tickets to a CL qualifier during that period? I’ll pay for them of course and yes, we will win the league and get there. Or do I just book online? Im out of the loop over here, would 3 tickets be easy enough or,,,,
Thanks in advance.

Hope all are well and Hail Hail

A man comes home completely drunk one night and his wife asks where were you?
In the Golden Bar love he replies.
Golden Bar, never heard of it, she says.
He says oh baby the bar is gold, the seats are gold, the walls are gold, the beer is gold, even the toilets are gold.
She doesn’t believe him, Googles the place and calls it.
“Golden Bar”
“Hello is it true your bar is gold?”
“Yes”
“Is it true your seats are gold?”
“Yes”
“The walls are gold?”
“Yes”
“The toilets are gold?”
The barman immediately turns around to the gathered crowd and yells “folks we found the bassa who pissed in the saxophone!”

Ill get my coat

Huns sign 26 year old Daisuke Yokota from Hannover 96 for £3.3M. Maybe AWE NAW has seen him?

Regardless of his merits or otherwise, the question has to be asked: why can Sevco consummate transfers so much more efficiently, and with far more alacrity than we do?

Do they have a much more professional recruitment set up? I have no idea, but it is really showing up our Celtic Clothing Company Clown show, world class in nothing we do.

R2ngers don’t have to get email approval from every member of the board, hence the CEO walks in and pays.
It really is embarrassing.
Why they don’t change that is a proper mystery.

On another night we get a second and have a way more comfortable end to the second half.

No biggy.

Given how the weekend had gone so far, the most important thing was being among those at the summit on waking this morning.

Everything we witnessed last night could be explained and excused, such as Hogh taking a little time to adjust to the way the ball reacts on wet grass, as opposed to the carpet like stuff he’s been used to that’s widely used in Scandinavia.

I thought my favourite player (CV) looked comfortable and a class above among the defenders on show. The big man will make some difference.

Clearly Duran is the better footballer of of our 2 new additions ..but then Kasper doesn’t need to be a brilliant football player, he just need to remember to be facing the right way when the chances are provided for him ..and they will be

Celtic strikers don’t need to be the best player in the country (Helps though), he just needs to have mobility and the instincts to be in the right place at the right time ..he’s already got that bit goin’

He has also never been prolific, in fact he really struggled to find the net at all early in his career, though to be fair he’s in a very purple patch right now.

As ever, once that first swish of net happens …

Hi Jobo

My top 3:

KT for the first shot on target of the season (43mins) and the first assist (52 mins). A good start for KT.

Nygren for his goal and a noticeable improvement in work rate. Long may it continue.

CCV
Great to see the Rock back. Wee bit rusty but we looked steadier with his presence there.

Great to see you continue with the POTY. Much appreciated by me.
