Morning, all.
As I have mentioned before, the main criticism of the new Financial Sustainability Regulations is that it rewards clubs who churn over players at an unhealthy rate and punishes those who like to build a team. (Even though that player churn seems to ignore the hidden costs of transfers, such as agents fees and signing on fees for incoming players, not to mention the 20% VAT applied.) Be that as it may, when only football-related earnings from the previous three years are eligible for use, it actually makes sense to sell players within that period of time in order to to keep transfer income and expenditure within its use by date.
For instance, the financial rewards to Celtic of selling Jota and Starfelt are no longer relevant. But the £22m we are apparently receiving for Engels is. As is all transfer profit inbetween. We might not like the idea of selling a 22yo midfielder whose best days are clearly yet to come, but FSR makes it a sensible move, even while every other metric in football is screaming about how big a mistake this is. Apart obviously from the one where he didn’t want to stay and renew his contract. That’s just the way it is now.
His departure means we have a large hole in our midfield. Fortunately, we’ve just signed another 22yo, Baur from Paderborn in Germany. Big shoes to fill, young Mika! Welcome to the greatest club in the world, show us what you’ve got!!!
With these two changes, and the likely absence due to yet another injury of AJ, we certainly won’t be seeing the same starting XI tomorrow as we did the previous two weekends. Scales is back too, having served a suspension carried-over from last season. Add in Hassein, who I’d expect to start, especially with the midweek qualifier looming, and we might see at least four changes. Managers are unfortunately used to dealing with this during the season as injury and suspension takes its toll. But they prefer to have a settled side at the start of the season.
There may well be more to come yet too. There are still 20 days of the window to go, and I doubt our wheeling and dealing is done for the summer. AJ’s injury means he won’t be amongst those leaving and we haven’t received any offers for Hatate-which will come as a blow to a player with a very high opinion of himself and who clearly wants to leave. Hell mend him then. Clubs tend not to buy players with his kind of attitude, never mind his form over the last two years or so. To get a move, he will need to convince our manager that he can be trusted. Good luck with that.
Changing the subject slightly, though with a referral back to a previous point. I mentioned that Scales is back after suspension. His suspension was actually carried over from events last season, where his name was unfortunately just too popular with the referees. McInnes also has time to serve as a result of last season. Three games plus one suspended, if I recall correctly. He and his club decided to stretch this out by means of the appeals process, which suspends any penalty pending a final outcome. They clearly decided his presence in the dugout was vital in the two opening games against Dundee Utd and Hibs. Unfortunately, that presence didn’t have the desired effect of galvanising his players into an electric start to the season. Far from it, with only one point taken from six so far.
Maybe the players looked over to the bench for inspiration and saw just another guy in a suit and brown brogues. From a distance, these guys all look the same-it could have been Rohl or Wee Barry or Beale standing there. And it’s not like they could tell the difference either just from how he sounded. All they could hear, after all, was the well known Ibrox Chorus…
BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
They tumbled out of the Europa League last night at home to Jagiella Byalistock, their only goal once again coming from a penalty. Four goals all season, two penalties and two own goals so far. Next stop, a home tie against St Mirren who I hope will maintain their 100% winning run. The reason I mention this-I don’t usually mention our suicidal soo’side neighbours in articles-is because the SFA may soon face a major conundrum.
Personally, I can’t see the huns firing McInnes even if they are bombed out of the League Cup by St Mirren, then out of Europe altogether two weeks from now. But it remains a possibility, which would then mean that he could be looking for a new job-with any future employer knowing that he can’t be in the dugout for the first four games! That’s harsh. But then I remember the reason for his disciplinary issue, and all sympathy disappears.
We can then look forward to reading articles by the same “journos” who were pushing for Ibrox to sack him supporting his candidature for the still vacant Scotland job. Amazingly they will do so in all seriousness, with after all no credibility left to lose. Where next for an Ibrox failure if not the Scotland job? It’s a path well trodden by many a brown brogue beforehand. And he won’t be subject to the issues caused by that four match dugout ban either.

We now have a new JustGiving page set up to enable donations to be made for our latest charity appeal.
We wanted to focus again on a local charity, and this time one which is dedicated to helping those suffering from homelessness, addiction or poverty.
The one we have gone for is
GLASGOW CITY MISSION
You can find our dedicated page at

It is coming up to that time of year when the betting aficionados amongst us have to get our thinking caps on again.
As usual, our site will run a NAPS COMPETITION with some healthy prize money, and once again it will start on St Leger Day in September and run through till the last day of Royal Ascot in June. There will be a short break from the end of November till the end of January.
And for those whose betting interests are mainly centred on the football, we will also run our MAGNIFICENT SEVEN accumulator, starting on the same day and finishing when we no longer have eight leagues to pick from. Usually the end of April. Let’s hope that it gives us a more magnificent return than the litany of near-misses and total failures we got last term!
Both these initiatives are FREE TO ENTER, and will be on their own dedicated page nearer the time. I look forward to your participation.
Being aware of the site demographic, some of you might find this as funny as I did.

The 22m engels move. Nothing from Romano or Anthony Joseph yet. Sky reporting it based on some West Ham fans account…
Good morning all from Alfredos. Meeting Leggy in the Brazen at 12 with maybe guest appearances from Blantyre Tim and Sipsini. Mick G was too lazy to get a taxi. 🤣🤣

I’ve reinstated it. Apologies for that, sometimes the filters block comments for no obvious reason. The only thing I can think of is the IP address being too close to one that is banned from access.
Say hi to the troops. And to Alfredo’s. I’ll get back to it one of these days.
Tried to delete posts, didn’t work. Terrible thing the drink.
Cheers Mick. 👍

Fingers crossed then. I still expect him to leave during this window, but I would much prefer that he see us through our qualifier first.

You can’t delete posts on here, though I will do so if you ask. What you can do though, via the edit button, is to pull up the post and delete the content character by character. Then just replace the comment with “test” or similar.

Is it just me or does Derek look like he’s aged 10 years in 6 weeks?
And the sunbed, Derek, I can’t think of many more embarrassing things for a man heading for 60 to be obsessed by.
If that was the Celtic manager I’d actually be angry.
Huns deal for winger is off, they’re skint…..saying he’s injured 😃
Ripping the pish out of the huns.

BADABING
Last night’s result seriously screwed their financial modelling for the season, not helped either by their heavy spending previously. Although their fans are blaming the manager and players at the moment, it won’t be long before they turn on the owners for not spending enough.
I’m always wary of the perils of schadenfreude but heyho, they’ve found that winning the preseason cup counts for eff all when they have to do the hard yards.
CRAIG76
Ouch…
It would be crazy to sell Engels before the CL qualifier , then again , our board have previous. Kuhn last year
We need Del to remain in- situ till at least October./November. Conference League defeats and two defeats to Celtic will all but confirm his fate by then ( if we get them in LC).
Morning all,
News just in,
The Huns Manager has arranged a trip to the USA as a film maker wants to make a film about his first few months in the job.
It’s called
McWinless in Seattle 😜😜😜😜😜
“Wish the club folded in 2012”
Who wants to be first to tell him? Ok, form a queue
So far so good as far as this window goes. We have brought in several players and for a decent outlay too, without selling any of our most valuable assets.
A most unceltic like window. Just maybe last season’s unrest and demonstrations have had they desired effect. Looks like fan power has won the day.
Hopefully the supporters and the board remember this valuable lesson for all time to come.
Brilliant

At £1,050 a win that’s ridiculous
Good luck Arne,5 year deal at West Ham, always seemed a good type around the place and popular guy among the squad, would rather have waited till after qualifiers though…….Ausburg have 10% sell on

Too good a deal to knock back, WHU start Championship this weekend, so their need for Arne was great.
He had some exceptional games for Celtic, especially in recent months, but also as many whereby the games passed him by.
I wish him well.

So who thinks the SFA may help their pals out by offering McInness the Scotland job? It gets him off the zombie books, but gives them money for his transfer, and lets them save face by pretending he wasn’t a complete bust.
Mike,
McInnes will end up back at Killie.
Been busy, and there have been a lot of games recently.
Check out the superb shooting in this Bodo/USG classic from Wednesday. It shows why the CL is a huge step up in class. Short 5 minute clip.

Hmm so Arne is defo off before the qualifier. Can’t imagine Bauer is up to speed yet as bundesligie doesn’t start till end of August. Wonder who starts on wed
The Chelsea lad didn’t sign because he wanted to be guaranteed starter.

All the best Arne.sorry to see you leave.personally think he’s got huge potential to be a real top player in england tho think i’d have waited for a better offer than west ham.
Interesting that at the start of the window, forward positions were the concern. Especially, getting more goals from that unit.
Now concern has shifted to the midfield which is experiencing significant churn. Engels about to leave; Bernardo surprisingly gone; Hatate possibly also for the off…although he has been effectively gone for months.
Overall, this is not a bad thing, but it will be crucial to manage these changes both effectively and quickly. Baur is an unknown ability, at least to me. He has had one breakout season but in Bundesliga2. Can he adapt quickly to Celtic? Sigur and Gineitis are quite different players and it could be argued that we need both. Gineitis is a CM with attacking intent. Sigur is a itility defensive player who can play RB, defensive mid, and CB. My knowledge of him is limited to the WC where he was largely anonomous, but his versatility would be an asset to the squad.
The churn makes it hard to understand Bernardo’s departure. He seemed to offer much of what will be missed when Engels and Hatate leave. Still, change was needed in this area of the team. I expect more of it after this season as Calmac listens to his body.
Rebus
The Moroccan winger from PSV was at the Bigotdome last night.
Why would he have been there if he was injured?
Unless he fell doon the stairs in his rush to get out?
McGregor, Nygren, Baur, Ox, McCowan, Hatate.
Unless fortified, that midfield pool will not be enough for LASK.

Here´s an interesting chat I had with AI today about the hun finances
You can ignore the first part of it. I need to get my 41 year old degree certified.
You can clearly see why we don’t break down our staff costs in our accounts (The charlatans) . To give the impression that all staff costs are player costs so that the big bad specter of FSR is more frightening.
You need to follow the chat right through to the end as I correct AI assumptions.
I IV 2.25pm.
He seemed broken in that video, understandable I suppose, given what Celtic have fished out to him and Hearts on numerous occasions over the years.
Yet, he refused to blame his team or Manager and their inability to win outside of Edinburgh since turn of year, instead focussing on officials and VAR.
The trauma will continue for a bit methinks….although they will improve as a team now McInnes is away.
What an absolute shower 💚💚
Great afternoon and Blantyre Tim ( Stephen)
