Morning, all.
As I have mentioned before, the main criticism of the new Financial Sustainability Regulations is that it rewards clubs who churn over players at an unhealthy rate and punishes those who like to build a team. (Even though that player churn seems to ignore the hidden costs of transfers, such as agents fees and signing on fees for incoming players, not to mention the 20% VAT applied.) Be that as it may, when only football-related earnings from the previous three years are eligible for use, it actually makes sense to sell players within that period of time in order to to keep transfer income and expenditure within its use by date.
For instance, the financial rewards to Celtic of selling Jota and Starfelt are no longer relevant. But the £22m we are apparently receiving for Engels is. As is all transfer profit inbetween. We might not like the idea of selling a 22yo midfielder whose best days are clearly yet to come, but FSR makes it a sensible move, even while every other metric in football is screaming about how big a mistake this is. Apart obviously from the one where he didn’t want to stay and renew his contract. That’s just the way it is now.
His departure means we have a large hole in our midfield. Fortunately, we’ve just signed another 22yo, Baur from Paderborn in Germany. Big shoes to fill, young Mika! Welcome to the greatest club in the world, show us what you’ve got!!!
With these two changes, and the likely absence due to yet another injury of AJ, we certainly won’t be seeing the same starting XI tomorrow as we did the previous two weekends. Scales is back too, having served a suspension carried-over from last season. Add in Hassein, who I’d expect to start, especially with the midweek qualifier looming, and we might see at least four changes. Managers are unfortunately used to dealing with this during the season as injury and suspension takes its toll. But they prefer to have a settled side at the start of the season.
There may well be more to come yet too. There are still 20 days of the window to go, and I doubt our wheeling and dealing is done for the summer. AJ’s injury means he won’t be amongst those leaving and we haven’t received any offers for Hatate-which will come as a blow to a player with a very high opinion of himself and who clearly wants to leave. Hell mend him then. Clubs tend not to buy players with his kind of attitude, never mind his form over the last two years or so. To get a move, he will need to convince our manager that he can be trusted. Good luck with that.
Changing the subject slightly, though with a referral back to a previous point. I mentioned that Scales is back after suspension. His suspension was actually carried over from events last season, where his name was unfortunately just too popular with the referees. McInnes also has time to serve as a result of last season. Three games plus one suspended, if I recall correctly. He and his club decided to stretch this out by means of the appeals process, which suspends any penalty pending a final outcome. They clearly decided his presence in the dugout was vital in the two opening games against Dundee Utd and Hibs. Unfortunately, that presence didn’t have the desired effect of galvanising his players into an electric start to the season. Far from it, with only one point taken from six so far.
Maybe the players looked over to the bench for inspiration and saw just another guy in a suit and brown brogues. From a distance, these guys all look the same-it could have been Rohl or Wee Barry or Beale standing there. And it’s not like they could tell the difference either just from how he sounded. All they could hear, after all, was the well known Ibrox Chorus…
BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
They tumbled out of the Europa League last night at home to Jagiella Byalistock, their only goal once again coming from a penalty. Four goals all season, two penalties and two own goals so far. Next stop, a home tie against St Mirren who I hope will maintain their 100% winning run. The reason I mention this-I don’t usually mention our suicidal soo’side neighbours in articles-is because the SFA may soon face a major conundrum.
Personally, I can’t see the huns firing McInnes even if they are bombed out of the League Cup by St Mirren, then out of Europe altogether two weeks from now. But it remains a possibility, which would then mean that he could be looking for a new job-with any future employer knowing that he can’t be in the dugout for the first four games! That’s harsh. But then I remember the reason for his disciplinary issue, and all sympathy disappears.
We can then look forward to reading articles by the same “journos” who were pushing for Ibrox to sack him supporting his candidature for the still vacant Scotland job. Amazingly they will do so in all seriousness, with after all no credibility left to lose. Where next for an Ibrox failure if not the Scotland job? It’s a path well trodden by many a brown brogue beforehand. And he won’t be subject to the issues caused by that four match dugout ban either.

Celtic have now reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balázs Tóth.
The Hoops are pushing ahead with a move for the Hungarian shot-stopper as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options.

Alistair Johnston has been confirmed as out of action until mid-September by Martin O’Neill.
🗣️ – “By the time he’s fit, it will be past the transfer deadline.”
It looks as though he’ll remain at Celtic.

Devastating interview with PSV Director of Football. Player has slight knock but fit within a week! Huns arguing he would be out for 4. So they tried to switch from a transfer fee and 4 year permanent contract to a one year loan. PSV sent them packing

Random thoughts. We are still looking for a winger. I’m not familiar with Driouech, but if he is pretty good, just think what the Hun would think if we signed him! 🤣 . Probably self combust.😅
The Blessed Martin dragged the Board’s erses out of the fire last season. But for him, we would have finished third and been in Der Hun’s current position – looking at the Euro Petrovac league and gradual long term decline due to reduced Euro income. We need to pull out all the stops, fortify midfield and full back positions before Wednesday, and clinch the CL group stage huge financial bonus.
someone posted a financial min max summary for scottish clubs.
it was excellent but now i cant find it
could anyone repost it please
big packy at 6.47pm – is there really any need for that?

Hi BADA:

INIQUITOUS IV😊
Ki 0 Lech Poznan 1 (0-2).
3 clubs in for Balikwisha, fingers crossed
Tony Mowbray doesn’t look that well. Has aged quite a bit since last year.
LASK 3-1 up in 27 minutes, playing 3-5-2. Both front men score. ( Adeniran 2 Usor 1 ).
Big Packy,
You speak to anyone on here like that again and you get a permanent red card.
Kyziridis starts immediately in tough game for Corum at Galatasaray.
Diomande on bench.
Baur, Hassan, Jota and MON with a ball at Lennoxtown today.😊

Who will be sacked first, McCann or McInnes (or will they do a swap)?

I’ve had “animated discussions” elsewhere about the club clumping costs together in the accounts. The obvious one being, as you say, wages. The other parties tried to tell me that the club’s football wage bill was £75m, which had to be cut, not increased.
I pointed out that such a figure was the equivalent of a 25 man squad, all on £58,000 a week. And if they could point to even one player on that, they’d be doing well.
But that figure does raise another issue. Where is our alleged spend on wages actually going? Last time I looked, the club had about 500 employees. But around half of them will be part time, only there on match days. They, and a high proportion of other non-playing staff, will be on roughly minimum wage.
There’s a serious credibility gap in our accounts, and that’s not the only one.

Oh please make it happen
So CL squad has no first choice RB, no back up LB, and with the exception of switching Baur for Engels, the same midfield that didn’t work last season. Beyond negligence.
Wolves 1 Rovers 0
Rovers 1-1. Superb goal.
Craig 76
ta much – sterling piece of work – huge differentials there.
Kilmarnock 1 Ayr 1
Kl 0 Poznan 2 (0-3)
Toth makes an absolute hash of trying to punch a ball away, but recovers.
Rovers hanging on here.

I can’t take credit for it, i just cut n pasted it from twitter.
CRAIG 76
Still a belter of a post though. Lays bare the problem that the huns have, and also why we have all been saying for years that planning for CL participation makes so much sense.
That’s three times I’ve been sent a very loud alert from GovUK about wildfires. Thanks very much to the Department of Twattery.

I’ve disabled it on my phone. Easy to do, just google it.
Rovers 2-1. Brilliant goal from Gudjohnsen.
BMCUWP,
Other staff costs plus board bonuses
Kilmarnock 1 Ayr 2
Celtic target Walemark scores last goal in Poznan’s 5-0 win in Faroes.
(Took a peek at some Driouech goals. Boy looks a player. Far, far better than Tounekti)
10 man LASK win 4-1 in league.
Raul Jiminez on for Wolves after heroics in World Cup. Cantwell unrecognizable in crew cut.
SOLKITTS
I damn near disabled my phone awthegither. Fortunately the windows on my flat are on a safety latch.
AWENAW
I know. But it still works out at a phenomenal amount of money for not very many full timers who aren’t on minimum wage. Do the maths yourself.
“AC Monza, FC Basel and SV 07 Elversberg have scouted Balikwisha, but the race for his signature remains wide open.”

The race referred to is a slow bicycle race over 10 yards.
The winner signs him.
Kilmarnock 3;Ayr 2
Both Wolves and Blackburn with all 5 subs on.
Penalty Wolves.
Jimenez 2-2
Corum with very creditable 2-2 draw at giants Galatasaray.
Osimhen with 2 goals for home team. Kyziridis scores on debut and is sent off. Diomande comes on from bench.
Wolves game over. Hard to judge Toth as Wolves had so few attempts at goal. Looked a bit skittish at times.
INIQUITOUS IV
Osimhen has nosedived since he was part of the Napoli title winning squad. Shame, because only three years ago he was a machine.
BMCUWP
nosedive? Seems a tad harsh.
Two seasons ago, Osimhem scored 26 in 30, for his best season ever. During his best season with Napoli, 4 years ago, he had 26 in 36 – admittedly a tougher and more defensive league. In 2 season in Turkey, he scored 43 goals in 53 games. Fastest player to 50 goals in Turkish league history. Would have had more but missed part of last season with a fractured arm.
