Debuts in Dundee

The reigning SPL Champions enter the second of four competitions today and attempt to regain the League Cup trophy starting with an away trip to Tannadice this evening.

I would love to see a full house and I’m curious to see if their executives are wise enough to grant extra sections to the away support if they weren’t to to have a full house.

One thing we will see is a debut, hopefully two, which is always exciting despite the unwritten rule that permeates the unwritten code for a debut, don’t do anything stupid and keep it simple.

Would I like to see Hassan and Baur flung in from the start,,nothing would delight me more. I rewatched some of Baurs YouTubes then I came across yesterday’s video of Hassan doing tricks and my first thought was “good luck getting the ball off us”.
They will improve us in that respect but rather than a Brendan style possession this will be a forward thrust more akin to Ange. Yang always shows for the ball, while Benji, Duran and Hogh are great outlets to hit,,,add another two and its getting tasty.

It’s likely to be a different type of debut, two strikers playing together, unless Martin sticks Duran wide left which I think would be the wrong move as left footers on the left don’t score much due to the incoming angle. Besides he’s a striker not a winger so I hope its a partnership this evening and why not have a test run before the qualifiers.

If we play two strikers together somethings gotta give and the realistic options are 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 and Martin basically ruled out the former when he admitted Baur is not Engels replacement (good luck Arne) and that would be a box to box player therefore he still sees three in the middle. Throw into the mix the fact our first choice right-back is injured and the odds of the return to 3-5-2 at Tannadice are raised. We await the teamsheet and formation with eager anticipation.

A good winning performance would be manna from heaven and keep the good ship going full steam ahead into a crunch tie. We need to carry the feel-good factor into Wednesday night and theres 11 men standing in our way. Maybe its just me but I would much rather have Utd than say Ayr or Raith Rovers as this is a proper tie in a good stadium and surface that should require a good performance to win rather than a routine stomping. If we make it look like a routine stomping that would tell me more about our team than theirs and I would regard that a really positive sign.

We’ve been making this football lark to easy lately, 12 wins on the bounce I believe, and while 13 is considered unlucky on this occasion its up against a formidable opponent in Martin who obviously wants a Treble to retire with ergo he will deliver a great speech in Dundee demanding progression. Recently they’ve responded not only well but excellently and I pray that continues tonight.

We now have a new JustGiving page set up to enable donations to be made for our latest charity appeal.

We wanted to focus again on a local charity, and this time one which is dedicated to helping those suffering from homelessness, addiction or poverty.

The one we have gone for is

It is coming up to that time of year when the betting aficionados amongst us have to get our thinking caps on again.

As usual, our site will run a NAPS COMPETITION with some healthy prize money, and once again it will start on St Leger Day in September and run through till the last day of Royal Ascot in June. There will be a short break from the end of November till the end of January.

And for those whose betting interests are mainly centred on the football, we will also run our MAGNIFICENT SEVEN accumulator, starting on the same day and finishing when we no longer have eight leagues to pick from. Usually the end of April. Let’s hope that it gives us a more magnificent return than the litany of near-misses and total failures we got last term!

Both these initiatives are FREE TO ENTER, and will be on their own dedicated page nearer the time. I look forward to your participation.

Time to bite the bullet on Arnes replacement.
Genetis first choice then Sigur then Mahmic.
It’s good to have options then bite the bullet.

Best 18 year old in Bolivia linked. Thats where the scout specialized in so I’m not taking this with a grain of salt and why the hell would outlets half way around the world create bullshit about us?
That and the fact he’s pretty cheap and a future flip for massive profit has the spidey senses tingling.
Balakwisha covers him with change, keep an eye on this one.

Is this the Bolivian? I think he’s on loan from a club called “Aye Ready.”🤣

Looks like one declaration of interest was from Ajax Reserves! Scored twice in Bolivia World Cup qualifiers, but they were pretty bad. Scotland beat them 4-0 in New York.

From the little I have seen of them, I would take Geneitis, or Tahirovic before the Canadian. Fits the need for a tough middle of the park mid. Don’t need Mahmet but he seems like the sort of player the club likes – more attacking, and so likely higher resale value.

Celtic can add two players before next weeks CL game. Need a RB, DM and back up keeper. Need the first two the most, but not bringing in a keeper is a bigger risk

MIT,
I’m wondering if Martin is leaning towards the attack minded Mahmic purely because he wants to leave with a treble and goals would deliver it?
I would prefer Genetis myself.
Our player profile has been top notch, good talented under 24s with their best years ahead and therefore mega profit.

I fear you might be right … but that type of myopia is why celtic is falling behind the rest of the world in football. Forget trebles… they mean nothing, except to Old Firm fans, and have little or no financial value, except they get you into Europe where real football is played, and where real money is earned.

With the players Celtic have bought, Beating St Mirren or anyone else in the SPL 5-0 should be pretty easy… go all out and attack… Celtic look like they can out run and gun any team in Scotland….but all attacking mids, without at least one mid who can defend, you wont score 5 in Europe, and are more likely to give up 5.

We really didn’t have the players to play different formations last season, especially middle to front. We needed someone to tell recruitment exactly what the team was lacking, and it’s now obvious the bonus it was having someone like Martin to do just that.

It was definitely Martin that identified we needed different types up front.

Although he delivered, Daizen was carrying some weight for us last season. This team will have the options we always should have had. We now have a focal point up front, the kind of forward options that make wide men look far more productive. I’d imagine we’ll see it with players like Seb, now there are the players to finish off the good work guys like him do.

Celtic buying quality while the Huns are in complete disarray …am I dreaming? The club now doing what we’ve always asked them to do – build a team worthy of our name. We’ll get a GK & DM, maybe a couple of loans for cover and we will have a team worth of the admission fee.

Well, it’s gotta be better than a seat at Ibrox for a thousand pounds!

Hopefully this all adds up to this being a season where we spend all our time talking about how good the team is, rather than concentrating on the Desmond’s or the board.

Strange days have found us.

So DD does do what the fans tell him to after all.
One season on from the only Celtic fans revolt since the 90s and the quality levels have shot up, shot up to levels BR was practically begging for.
Yet DD slaughtered him then for demanding what he now provides.
Proving that BR was right all along and DD was wrong.
Also proving they could have given BR (and us) what we wanted but chose not to.
We were very very lucky to win by the skin on our nose right at the death last season and BR saw that happening.
Until DD apologies or seeks rapprochement with BR it’s still Not Another Penny for me as that whole sordid attack on BR in The S*n and by DD still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Apologies for my negativity but this board now doing what they should always have been doing even though I doubt it will last, does not let them off with their appalling behavior towards one of our own.

i said similar yesterday. I wonder if the fact DD doesn’t have pedro in his ear has anything to do with it. Last time we had a window signing first team ready players was when pedro had ‘left’ and dom McKay took over. Big Peter never really hid his dislike for Rodgers and that assassination from Desmond was quite remarkable from someone who had gotten his own way in bringing him back to the club in the first place. Wonder what he was telt

August 15, 2026 8:57 am

Guys

You need to let the past go. I’m sure BR has .. and if there was anything litigious in what DD had wrote, then I’m sure we’d have seen court action by now.

Rich, vein, narcissistic men fall out all the time, the only difference last year was that it had a massive impact on our football club.

In the end we got there and today we’re seeing the combined result of fan power and a strong Manager helping guide the club to safer waters. Success is not guaranteed, but at least we’re beginning to resemble a competent football club as opposed to a money hoarding venture.

I don’t know who makes my skin crawl more, Desmond or the online apologists who scurry around (Like the rats they are) trying to character assassinate one of our best managers.

You can spot them just by observing how they attack anyone that questions their claims.

Morning Celts

First post in a while as I have had a busy summer. Hat tip to Mahe & Bobby for the leaders during my lurking period.

Despite the boards car crash last season, the culmination of winning the league will live long in the memory. Sad to see Daizen & Arne leaving but delighted with Hogh & Camilo. Like MIT I would like a solid defensive mid for our European adventures.
While I am wary of our PLC’s tendency to try and keep the Rankers relevant, perhaps even DD realises the direction of travel Celtic fans wish to take. I am looking forward to the new season with optimism that’s been missing since the Brendan Mk1/ Ange days- hell I might even break my NAP stance and buy some merchandise to go with my ST. Note of caution though- 17 days to go and our cash spend is pretty much neutral & the PLC is more than capable of bursting the ball.

Hail Hail and best wishes to all on this site for the coming season- and a classy statement win tonight.🍀🍀🍀

Not many but Donovan doesn’t need to take up a slot in the main squad as he qualifies anyway.

McArdle is still only 18 btw. He could really benefit going on loan to another spfl top tier side. Liked the look of Hatton in his preseason cameo. He is 20 which isn’t that young and should be playing football somewhere by now.

I would add that I would be saying to Donovan just now. Your right back for the next 6 weeks. Go and prove yourself. We need to have some kind of pathway and this looks like the ideal opportunity. He is no AJ but then I dunno how good AJ was at 19

August 15, 2026 11:33 am

Agreed on Donovan. An ideal opportunity for him to assert himself and gain invaluable experience of playing weekly for us. He’s Celtic to the core, so I obviously hope he succeeds .

August 15, 2026 11:34 am

H3

I agree that we have to make a decision on who plays instead of AJ, and stick with it. Personally, I think Big T is a better player, but he isn’t going to improve. Donovan will, and given proper encouragement, coaching and game time, is the better option.

All moot, of course, if MON goes with MAHE’s suggestion of three at the back-which I had hoped never to see again after the failed Nancy experiment.

Normally I’d be happy to see billionaires and millionaires all fighting each other, unless they are part of the Celtic tribe of course.
To me BR stuck his neck out for the fans last year and for the good of Celtic, not himself. That’s a sacrifice he made and I hope he knows he is one of us and loved and appreciated more than before.
Despite the atrocious treatment by DD, PL, the board and it’s online bootlickers.
It feels a little as though he has been banished outside the tribe though atm.
I feel as if his role in demanding what we wanted has been forgotten now that the money hoarders have decided to do what we and BR cried out for a year ago. Yes we are bamboozled, disorientated and giddy by the new signings because we are conditioned by them to expect only punts.
They’ve been running a global Titan like it’s a provincial also-ran and we, like BR want, in fact demanded recalibration. Perhaps we’ve got it, it’s too early to say but let’s hope so and support the Bhoys though let’s not forget our main ally in getting us there.

Thanks for your kind words lads/lassies and providing Celts with a place we can get our Celtic minded feelings out there,

That’s more bad news for our midfield from Hoop Hoop Hooray that Ox has a 3 game Euro ban. We just can’t underestimate LASK. They sit top of the Austrian Bundesliga with a P3 W3 D0 L0 F9 A1 Pts 9 record, 5 points ahead of Sturm Graz, who annihilated Hearts. (They have played a game more).

So at the moment, we have McGregor, Nygren, Baur, McCowan, Hatate available. It’s nowhere near enough.

And more bad news for the Bigotdome. Jablonec sit top of the Czech league with 9 points from 3 games, 5 points ahead of perennial champs Sparta Prague.

There aren’t any easy ties in that lot. Frightening possibility of zero involvement in the group stages, apart from us.

August 15, 2026 1:51 pm

Bobby,

that is a realistic outcome.

However, I do think Hearts, 2nd Rangers and Hibs have a chance, depending on what version of them turn up.

Motherwell should have the hardest tie, last years Europa finalists and suprise package, but I actually thought Well were very good against Helsinki, and are in a bit of form, the new manager is imho, as good as Jens, maybe even more so, I like the cut of the boys jib.

having said that, his name escapes me.

It would be a rare treat to actually have Scottish clubs going into that 3rd tier competition, surely they could pick up co-efficient points to our benefit.

Once again though, we , ourselves alone, have the richest double header in our history, well since this time last year, please Celtic please please dont blow it, looking forward to the new bhoys showing some of their european scoring pedigrees,

please.

August 15, 2026 1:54 pm

Scotlands co-efficient – and aff oout.

Celtic will begin their European campaign next week, joining the other four, and will face LASK in the Champions League play-off. They are already guaranteed a place in the Europa League phase if they lose, with projected minimum earnings of about €13m, rising to around €29m if they reach the Champions League. Their minimum Europa League earnings are boosted by the €4.29m fee paid to Champions League play-off losers, which they would receive should LASK progress.
