Debuts in Dundee
The reigning SPL Champions enter the second of four competitions today and attempt to regain the League Cup trophy starting with an away trip to Tannadice this evening.
I would love to see a full house and I’m curious to see if their executives are wise enough to grant extra sections to the away support if they weren’t to to have a full house.
One thing we will see is a debut, hopefully two, which is always exciting despite the unwritten rule that permeates the unwritten code for a debut, don’t do anything stupid and keep it simple.
Would I like to see Hassan and Baur flung in from the start,,nothing would delight me more. I rewatched some of Baurs YouTubes then I came across yesterday’s video of Hassan doing tricks and my first thought was “good luck getting the ball off us”.
They will improve us in that respect but rather than a Brendan style possession this will be a forward thrust more akin to Ange. Yang always shows for the ball, while Benji, Duran and Hogh are great outlets to hit,,,add another two and its getting tasty.
It’s likely to be a different type of debut, two strikers playing together, unless Martin sticks Duran wide left which I think would be the wrong move as left footers on the left don’t score much due to the incoming angle. Besides he’s a striker not a winger so I hope its a partnership this evening and why not have a test run before the qualifiers.
If we play two strikers together somethings gotta give and the realistic options are 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 and Martin basically ruled out the former when he admitted Baur is not Engels replacement (good luck Arne) and that would be a box to box player therefore he still sees three in the middle. Throw into the mix the fact our first choice right-back is injured and the odds of the return to 3-5-2 at Tannadice are raised. We await the teamsheet and formation with eager anticipation.
A good winning performance would be manna from heaven and keep the good ship going full steam ahead into a crunch tie. We need to carry the feel-good factor into Wednesday night and theres 11 men standing in our way. Maybe its just me but I would much rather have Utd than say Ayr or Raith Rovers as this is a proper tie in a good stadium and surface that should require a good performance to win rather than a routine stomping. If we make it look like a routine stomping that would tell me more about our team than theirs and I would regard that a really positive sign.
We’ve been making this football lark to easy lately, 12 wins on the bounce I believe, and while 13 is considered unlucky on this occasion its up against a formidable opponent in Martin who obviously wants a Treble to retire with ergo he will deliver a great speech in Dundee demanding progression. Recently they’ve responded not only well but excellently and I pray that continues tonight.

Ox should only be a sub.
Utd can press as midfield not showing for ball.
On the odd occasion they get ball it’s always returned backwards
Donovan still can’t find a Celtic player.
Corner us.
1-0. YASSSSSSS
Yessssss, Trusty, and from a corner too.
Trusty 1-0
Set piece goal!
Yes!
Setpiece too.
1-0 Trusty from corner 😁
Lovely front post header.
2-0, Duran.
2-0.
Duran 2-0
And its 2!
Aitken on VAR😱
Very pleased for Duran – hope it stands
Great whip on Nygren corner for Trusty to head home.
That looked like set piece coach work.
Not our usual floaty shite
Duran!!!! 2-0
Steven Maclean gutted
Almost every goal we scored, goes to VAR
Did it hit Hogh’s arm
I want to see Hassan and Baur on today.
Usual VAR from Scoddish cheats.
Spend ages trying to find reasons to disallow good goal
Really wish we would try shooting from 25 yards or so.
Does Donovan know he is allowed to pass forward?
Until Trusty scored UTD were the better team, hit the post twice.

Exactly what they were doing.
Nygren has scored a bunch of goals for us, yet is oddly almost totally anonymous most games.
McGregor weak as a kitten in centre midfield with turnover leading to Utd attack.
Were needing to waken up here .distribution terrible
Its quite clear we also need 2 fullbacks if johnstone is going and tierney isnt going to be fit .
Commentator hasn’t a clue about handball rule.

Hun commentator hasn’t a clue about handball so makes it up

If we can’t get Emenalo, Ferry is available. But the Chelsea player can play center back and midfield. I’d bite yer arm off for him.
I can see UTD scoring in this match, even though I got rid of my crystal ball years ago.
I couldn’t see any future in it.
Utd number 18 goes down rather easily .

When a commentator is making up the rules to justify giving a penalty, he should be bulleted. Be as well asking the guys from R2ngers TV to do it.
Sinisalo will never be bored when Donovan plays.
Consistent in passing back to him

His attempts to conflate two completely different situations were Hunnish and pathetic
This midfield won’t do, will it?
We know Ox can’t play Wednesday, so we would be as well trying something different today.
Decent first half, delighted with the scoreline, especially after early scares.
Donovan doing absolutely fine. Not offering much going forward, but has defended well.
Midfield is slow, no major surprise there, but Nygren looks on it and Cal and Ox are tidy enough.
Hogh should’ve buried that late chance.
The Chelsea lad isn’t coming, wants to be first choice at his next club. In the 3 days since he visited theres been nothing and we can wrap a loan up quickly plus we needed him for the list and he blew up that plan.
The Bolivian though would be a good option for that left flank.
Work permit might be hard though.
Hail Hail
Thoughts on first half
duran is a player, but not a right winger. Play him in the middle beside or just behind Hogh. If you do, he will score. Good opportunistic striker goal.
But if you play him behind, will Nygren be redundant?
tounetki looks short of confidence. needs to be told to take his man on. Inside or outside, doesnt matter. but needs to take his man on, Or take him off
central mid pair of Calmac and Ox doesnt work. Period.
Donovan looks solid defensively. Some great tackles. But misses AJ’s drive forward.
Preferred formation and players brought in dont seem to match.
Oh bdear broonies not going to be a soup taker .he needs to speak up here .
Another commentator trying to further the idea Celtic get favour from VAR.
Stewart until Huns threatened to end his career was a decent impartial commentator.
Donovan doing well defensively, would like him to support Duran more offensively.
Scales unsurprisingly is pish.
The midfield is still a concern , which won’t be solved in time for Wednesday
Tounetki started well then reverted to type.
He needs to gain some self belief.
TBF to Stewart, he was asking a genuine question about arm hit goals. Fwiw, the Falkirk goal he’s referring to, should have stood too
Good defensive work by Hogh.
Tounetki crossing is abysmal. There’s a reason he has only two assists in his Celtic career. .
