Luck Of The Draw
Morning, all.
Just Another Saturday has been and gone, and left us with the prospect of a Beautiful Sunday. Yes, we negotiated a difficult trip to Tannadice-the venue for our last defeat five months ago-but our soo’side rivals managed to defeat the holders, in possibly the most miserable defence of a trophy ever, the following day.
Naturally, with every penny a prisoner over Ibrox way, they got a home draw. Again. Incredibly, given the outcome of the Scottish Cup tie in March, it is against us. Unbelievably, there is no 20% rule in this particular tournament, so we will be allocated what the huns tell Police Scotland to allow us.
I’ll be honest with you, I thoroughly enjoyed my trips to Ibrox in the 70s and 80s. We didn’t win them all, far from it. A New Year 3-1 defeat in Jock’s last season will always be one of my most bitter memories, with good reason. And I remember asking SOLKITTS why we were playing our mascot as a bleach bottle blonde started running around the pitch-just before he took out Davie Cooper with a tackle even I’d have been proud of. Peter Grant, that was. Mind you, we lost that day.
I remember too the classic when Davie Provan literally left a defender on his back gasping for air. My memory says Davie McKinnon, but recollections may differ. What doesn’t differ is him turning to the prone defender, having laid the ball off and saying:-
“I could keep a beach ba’ aff you in a telephone box!”
Little did he know that about twenty years later, the Celtic support would bring beach balls to Ibrox to commemorate that day!!
But I digress, this is all to say that I genuinely did enjoy my trips there. There wasn’t the sheer hatred then that there is now. Don’t get me wrong, if a couple of fans from the wrong side had found themselves in the wrong place, that would be different. But the animosity was a level below what there is now, in my personal opinion. Also in my personal opinion, it was stoked up during the Souness and Murray years and has never relented or gone away.
Dave King played to his audience by cutting our allocation from the time-honoured Celtic End of the Broamloan Stand to a tiny corner of 800 hardy souls. Seems he was shocked when we did the same to his supporters, but he was never the sharpest tool. There weren’t any regulations in the SPFL against this, another example of how backward our administrators are. However, those regulations exist in the SFA. And they came into play in March when we were drawn to play them at Ibrox in the cup.
The Hitler Youth element of the Ibrox support attacked the Broamloan that day, furious at a Timmy support celebrating in their midden. Flares and missiles launched, a stand-off with the police, hundreds if not thousands on the pitch.
And fewer arrests than from The Trongate two months later!
And as a result of that, it is the Celtic support-the victims, remember-who will suffer. We won’t have the security of numbers in a few weeks time, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see us billeted in our wee corner again. Suffice to say that you won’t see me there, not now. The pleasure of the occasion has long gone. No one should be attending a game of football in fear of what happens off the pitch.
^^^^^^
To on the pitch matters now, and I was discussing with my mates at the weekend how the fates have conspired against Scottish clubs in Europe this week. Our draw could have been better, but could certainly have been worse. But Hearts v Rapid Boohiss, Hibs v Gent and Motherwell v Freiburg, who were runners up in last season’s Europa League. Then you look at the likes of Larne v Lincoln Red Imps! I mean, who does the seeding for these tournaments?
Me being me with my love of a wind up, I suggested to my wee hun mate that it would make sense for his club to drop out of Europe entirely this season. The Conference is worth about £10m to them all in, including gate money, and it might be better for them to have a free week and concentrate on the league. Eyes on the prize of the CL money next year.
Especially, as I pointed out, that they can spend as much money in Scotland as they like. No FSR or similar up here. And the spending won’t arrive in the accounts until after they’re awarded a licence for next season.
Let’s face it, they’ve done it before…

LASK V Celtic next Tuesday, live on Prime Video
Took a while, but goal given.
Zagreb 1-0. Would love a start like this tomorrow.
2-0 Zagreb.
I reckon we will go 3 4 3
Trusty CCV Scales
Nygren McGregor Baur Tierney
Duran Hogh Tounekti
If we go 3 5 2 then Hassan for Tounekti
Either way left side looks defensively very weak
Viking defending like Celtic away in Europe. Lose 2 goals in 2 minutes.
30 yard rocket from Viking saved by keeper.
McKenna playing well for Zagreb so far.
BADABING
Hope the goalie rumour is true.
Stojkovic with laser like shot for Zagreb, just misses.
Ernie i just had enough reading these type of posts and the damage they are doing to the site.
I am all for free speech and I think anyone should be able to post anything within reason as long as the discussion is civil.
Any topic posted and the more people discussing the better and if people cant reply without abuse even if they disagree with posts then dont join the conversation.
As i say this is a great site with everyone having a common interest of wanting celtic to be the best it can be which should be world class at everything but abuse should not be part of any post.
Viking looking a bit shell shocked. They know a third would probably finish the tie.
Zagreb hit inside of post, rebounds to keeper. Almost 3-0.
Croats really spring to life when they get near goal. They look very dangerous.
Norwegians far too open for an away tie. Naivety perhaps?
Don’t look to have the savvy of Bodo Glimt.
Fantastic goal by Viking.
What a screamer! Outside of foot from Christiansen.
2-1
Looks like I picked the right game.
Fenerbache 0 Lyon 0
Levski Sofia 0 AEK Athens 0
Viking in bother when they try playing out from keeper.
Zagreb shoot on sight of goal.
Croats constantly pass across 18 box for runners to shoot.
One of the more difficult moves for defenders to stop.
Fenerbache 0 Lyon 1
Superb equalizer from Viking 2-2.
Some game this. Completely open.
Zagreb 30 yard belter just misses.
That should read right side above
2-2 at HT.
Gutsy performance from Norwegians. Takes a bit of character to score 2 away from home in Europe after going 2 down in 10 minutes and being dominated.
Rumors of Lukas Fadinger resurfacing.
Stories that that not all is rosy at Ibroke, after Nico Raskin refused to give up the captain’s armband when Shankland came on as a sub in the game versus St Mirren.

Hi Mike:
He would need to be registered less than 2 hours from now!

INIQUITOUS IV😊
Fenerbache 1 Lyon 1 . Greenwood.
I was trying to figure out what was missing in this game.
Then I realized – it’s the short 5 yard wall pass back to whence it came while facing your own goal with acres of open space behind you!
Catchy wee tune.

Agree with Inq1V….. there’s a first!
Good game to watch tho seem to be singing “ Go home ya Hun” all the time
Hi Ernie.
You did initiate it.you posted an example of a 103 year old unionist trope, which i compared and contrasted those in establishment today in 2026.You were questioned. You took umbrage and defaulted along some form of supremacist anal abuse narrative.
Why not join in looking in looking at all forms of sectarianism in every sector of our diaspora, health prisons, druguse, crime, courts, professions,
call it out today Ernie, you dont.
If you bump into Tom Minogue say hi.he is a good man 🙂
Norwegians look as if they will content with a draw. Rarely venturing forward now.
Croats skelp post again.
Poor free kick from Viking. Wasteful. The last place you want to hit it is straight at the keeper. Not even amateurish.
Kilwinning Rangers 3 Albion Rovers 1.
I reckon LASK mirrored what Hearts did last season when the Big 2 ( Sturm and Salzburg) were in meltdown.
Fortunately for them, they had a decent manager and galvanised themselves in a tight run-in to the Austrian title.
Posted this when we drew them:
Dietmar Kühbauer
Return to LASK
So , a new manager returns to LASK in October and leads them to a League and Cup double, losing only 2 games in the process.
This season they played a lower (3rd tier) club in an opening Austrian Cup tie 7-0.
First 3 Bundesliga games :
LASK 3-0 GAK
Austria Vienna 0-2 LASK
LASK 4-1 Ried .
New manager bounce and consolidation.
Hopefully European tie inexperience hampers them 🤞
HH💚🍀
Clever move by Viking, but they just miss.
Both teams with 5 subs on. If we have to do that tomorrow, we will be in real bother.
Poor corner from Zagreb.
Levski Sofia 0 AEK Athens 0. Final score.
As is Fenerbache 1 Lyon 1.
3 tight games.
Finishes 2-2.
AJ injury worse than first thought
Registration deadline passed. Did we register anyone?
Will Marcus Gill from the Lowland League be on the bench?
One of mighty middle east power Hapoel Be’er Sheva or mighty Central Asian power Sabah will be in the Champions League Group Stage. It will be a frigging disgrace if our utterly inept Board have ensured that we are not there with them.

One thing about Tony the Tiger. He always shows up.

Boruc was never the type for buckling under pressure.
Martin,
Trying to aim high but not sounding entirely convincing about how far Celtic may progress. I am sure this reflects whatever shenanigans are going on behind the scenes…
