Gimme a game
As I type I’m hating the decesion to deprive us of another 90 plus minutes watching this Celtic team.
Its the best feeling in the world when you’re just itching for the whistle to blow, because you know something special is about to happen.
It would have happened I have no doubt but I also understand the managers pre home-tie decision to cancel today’s game. He most likely thought we will need the whole week to prepare for the biggest game of the season, which brings more time for the new Bhoys to integrate. Turns out he didn’t need to cancel this game, but better safe than sorry.
I know its an old cliche, but team spirit is so so important and during the 3rd goal vs Lask celebrations it struck me how good of a group we have. These guys look bonded and together, loving life at Celtic, living for the crowd and playing for pride, enjoyment, and the jersey.
That’s a dangerous situation, thats when “weve got something special here” starts materializing.
Not that we need a boost but imagine we sign a couple before Tuesday, not so they can play, but it sends a message you must perform when we are bringing in talent. More quality in and a victory over there, the positivity would be off the charts with tickets hard to comeby especially CL tickets. Thats where you wanna be as a football club, exciting, on the rise, sold out to the max, and that’s the path we are on.
Putting aside the stadium expansion chat we have made a substantial outlay for future profit in this window but heres my point.
When youve tasted that level of player and income (they are 24 or under and will go for a fortune one day) do you go back? Would the investors not say to Dermot stay on this path when our income breaks the 200m bracket for the first time?
Why would you leave it?
I believe this window was the coffin nail in club signings, punts 3m and under. Dermot is going spend on one hand the money that comes in on the other hand.
Thats what you get when his most trusted advisor took the job as a personal favour plus Mark Cooper is coming up trump’s at discovering good talent within our new pricerange.
He’s let the genie out of the bottle, legend at the helm and dangerous players how can we not fall in love and start dreaming?
&nbso;
These under 24 year olds will boost the balance sheet to an unseen. height, and I really hope this quality over quantity approach now has the leading and deciding voice rather than the ” fast lane then slow lane” approach.
We cannot go back to club signings and punts after this, so in many ways it feels like a beginning. This quality over quantity approach will pay off and piss off/embarrass one certain ex employee, but we all know its the long overdue right track. Without touching his pocket but spending our intake well year on year, when youve got a good player trading system in place, imagine,,,
Dermot make this your legacy, this new strong team and not being afraid to spend over 5m
A different direction has been chosen, thats apparent. Celtic are buying players not just spending money and long may it last.
But this must be our new base level, our springboard to catapult upwards via the profit off this bunch. We cannot go back to Shin Yamadas etc.
I believe this summer the decisions made Celtic turn a corner and once youre on that path theres no going back.
The original “slow lane” was introduced because our players weren’t increasing in value assets but mostly men with the best behind them when they left. Thats no longer the case, 24 and under we are targeting/sanctioning and the point is Dermot backed his horse each way. Aye Martin heres a hoard but we break even with a more compact but better squad.
If under 24 brings the big profit, then theres no need to enter the slow lane again. Spending right now makes a lot of sense on so many levels. It looked like a season of protest now its pure excitement as our new and looking worthy heros step forward. This Club eh,,,as the old song says I fooled around and fell in love.

A fine positive article. If we get the guys in that are being name checked, it should drive the other players on to greater performances. We just have to get through Tuesday first…
Enjoy the holidays with your nearest and dearest.
Hail Hail.
We now have a new JustGiving page set up to enable donations to be made for our latest charity appeal.
We wanted to focus again on a local charity, and this time one which is dedicated to helping those suffering from homelessness, addiction or poverty.
The one we have gone for is
GLASGOW CITY MISSION
You can find our dedicated page at

It is coming up to that time of year when the betting aficionados amongst us have to get our thinking caps on again.
As usual, our site will run a NAPS COMPETITION with some healthy prize money, and once again it will start on St Leger Day in September and run through till the last day of Royal Ascot in June. There will be a short break from the end of November till the end of January.
And for those whose betting interests are mainly centred on the football, we will also run our MAGNIFICENT SEVEN accumulator, starting on the same day and finishing when we no longer have eight leagues to pick from. Usually the end of April. Let’s hope that it gives us a more magnificent return than the litany of near-misses and total failures we got last term!
We will be looking for volunteers for this year’s ACCA , so please join up!
Both these initiatives are FREE TO ENTER, and will be on their own dedicated page nearer the time. I look forward to your participation.
D R M has also very kindly volunteered to operate a competition over the three days of the AYR GOLD CUP meeting. Usual rules, with a selection from each race.
There is £100 of prize money, and as alway is FREE TO ENTER!
More details will be available on the dedicated page nearer to the beginning of the event on 17th September.
Magua, thanks.

Alright troops ..
I realise we all have our differences but Celtic should always be our constant .. for some punters on here like Bobby & co on CQN I always mentioned young MissGFTB in many posts … well on Wednesday night she bought the tickets in the public sale then picked my mate up who has been a season ticket holder forever… he was delighted the “wee yin” was now his chauffeur….the wee blade taking me to Celtic park & back … her grandmother would be so proud…. Nothing about the fitba just me going to Celtic park stone cold sober .. Baur excellent.. Colby excellent … Duran ? Like a young MacAvennie … covered every blade of grass and two crackers … happy days

And we’re still in profit from selling Daizen and Engels, all we’ve ever wanted, re-investing in talent, no-one I know expects us to break the bank with £20m+ players, BUT, re-investing in quality 👏👏👏
Mahe do not get your vehicle stuck in the the sand at Pismo beach, i resisted the temptation to drive along the beach. its a beautiful spot for the family holiday. I hope the mood on here is still this good after the game next Tuesday. We have had these highs before! I also hope the Board can make a better effort to communicate with the Celtic fans, everyone pulling the oars together will only make us better as a club

Enjoy your break Mahe.
Good article.
Are we now where Ange wanted us to be. Where Brendan mk1 and 2 wanted to be. Where Dom McKay wanted us to be
Where everyone apart from the Lawwell cqn loyal wanted us to be.
What took us so long!
Hi
Hello to this fine site ( Copyright Jobo)
Haven’t posted before but am a daily reader.
Thought on Wednesday we did to LASK what European teams have done to us previously and continued the theme from the Kilmarnock and Dundee Utd games. We finished really well.
As moves were concluding we got into position to score. There looked like forward thinking, positive, hope. And the skill. Superb.
BRAVENEWWORLD
Welcome to the site. Glad to have you on board.
Mahe , good post, but …
There is a time and a place for sub £3m punts Nygren being the current example- and there are plenty of others out there in that range who would improve Celtic immediately, so I think we need to be realistic in our expectations that only £10m+ is our market. It clearly isn’t.
Enjoy your well earned break. HH
Whose gonna break the Celtic Enigma code and define what Benji Nygren’s real position is? A centre forward? or an attacking midfielder comes nearest to naming his position. This £1.7 million purchase from Nordsjaelland is the steal of the century.
Transfer talk has died down but surely it must still be there in the EPL and elsewhere. His talent is
surely in making space inside the box and creating goals for others or skelping the ball from outside the box with both shape and power. His goals scored and goal assists stats are still climbing, it must be a matter of weeks before he travels south and Celtic pocket a £25 million pound finders fee.
Someone at Celtic FC still has the knack of finding these gems, Bodo didn’t, how I wish it was my auld hero Davy Hay, but whoever it was ‘take a bow son.
Nice pad Mahe, not sure about the colour of those chairs on the balcony though!!
BAWHEID
Aye, David Hay had an eye for a player, and dug up some gems for us.
Bawheid
I’m certain a bid will come in for Nygren in the coming weeks. £25m or above.
Realism!
We have good players but yet to find the balance making us a good team.
Scouting has improved.
Who had the vision to employ better scouting?
Are we in the middle of a club revolution in vision and ambition or have we just got lucky in our latest bout of reactionary behaviour?
So many questions?
San Luis – I agree with you. looking around its around about a month since the last T’ for transfer word leaked out and its no wonder with stats like his, if he finds the right team his value might rocket, seems like a nice lad so good for him.
How you doing? going out for a wee while but hope your good, look in later on. Cheers.
Bobby – You will remember when Davy scouted there for us think he managed a ‘Nordic team too, but what an eye for a player and indeed what a player, one of my all time Celtic greats.
We’ve gone from praying Daizen didn’t get injured, as it would have left us relying on a kid who’d barely played a first team game, to the riches we now possess up front.
If Jota’s recovery is complete, and he comes back anything like the player he was, and we also add Mehmic, our biggest problem will be finding a way to fit them all into our starting 11.
Still think we’re making a mistake by not prioritising a new CB. If we end up relying on Scales and Murray at CL level, it will put extra pressure on our front line to out-score the opposition.
I know we’re trying to balance things out by giving new contracts to players who are on peanuts, I just think it makes little sense when we end up relying on Scales and Murray at a higher level than Killie, Dundee etc
Make the CL and we will certainly be equipped middle to front. As I say though, do we have a defence fit for that level?Might make for some really exciting games, but will also mean I’ll have to tell the doctor that’s why my blood pressure is through the roof, and my nerves are shredded.
Bring it on!!
HH 🍀
Why is a minority shareholder having a say in how much we spend and who we buy .
Fuck the Desmonds the fkn rats that they are.
Bawheid
Nygren’s position is that he doesn’t have a position.
Makes him difficult to mark as he is in perpetual motion drifting and flirting.
Opponents don’t know when or how to pass him on.
I watched him v LASK, when they switched to five in the middle he, Calmac and Baur were under pressure but were helped out by Yang and Duran ( who also helped our full backs ).
On the front foot he constantly makes angles or runs in a wide circle with the ball dragging opposition out of shape.
An intelligent footballer.
Look at some of Hogh’s goals and Nygren is nearly always in the vicinity
Final point, if you watch the build up to the third goal he and Duran are front and centre but the much maligned Hatate drags a marker away from an area creating space for the not normally renowned passer of a ball Trusty to feed Nygren in the first instance.
You could say that is what we should be doing.
There’s intelligence in the team again.
Starting to look like “ pure, beautiful inventive football”
Let’s not kid ourselves, it was the support that changed policy. The board seen what the NAPM campaign did to its top line and that was the catalyst for change.
The empty stadium against Boro sent the message and all of a sudden things changed.
Don’t kid yourself, every penny counts.
Well done the support and the actions taken. As the yanks would say( good job)
Steve,
I also took time to watch Nygren the other night.
First thing that strikes you is his ability to find space even in congested areas.
As you say, an extremely smart player.
Also helps that he doesn’t need multiple touches to bring the ball under control.
Our first 30m player?
If it is true we are bringing in Mehmic, he could do worse than watch Nygren closely 👍
The future’s so bright, I gotta wear 😎
BAD 1024
Again emphasises a point we’ve been making for too long now. That we have a good team but not a good squad.
Steve,
Meant to add to your point about the third goal (A thing of beauty) when the ball is played into Hogh in the middle of the park, his first time lay off is brilliant, as he has dragged his marker way out of position, and has put us on the front foot leading directly to the ball ending up in the net seconds later.
Amid all the outstanding play from others, Hogh’s contribution and effort shouldn’t be forgotten .. he’ll be so important in the return leg.
We now have wingers who will get us up the park by carrying the ball, but Hogh will be the out-ball if and when we are simply having to clear our lines.
We have options now, that is the most pleasing thing about this summer.
Bobby,
I’m hoping for a late surprise in the last 2 weeks of the window.
Even if a loan, I’d love another experienced CB.
We started moving in the right direction, it’d be a shame if we leave ourselves short in defence, when it could cost us a great run in the CL.
You know it makes sense.
HH 🍀
Our deficiencies in squad depth are being overlooked in this premature acclaim.
The club is undoubtedly on the right track but at
least 4, possibly 5 needed in key areas.
And some makeweights to be sent elsewhere.
Bawheid
All good here, another hot summer of 40+ degrees survived …just. Roll on September.
My love for Celtic remains. What a difference a year makes. I can’t believe how bad we became ( on and off the pitch), but , today, it feels as if we’re approaching something special- a few more good signings will get us there.
The past remains in the past and as others have said, the future looks bright.
Can a Leopard change its spots if DD is that Leopard ?
It’s a poor analogy because he could be forced to by circumstance.
At the start of the season MON wasn’t getting the trusted lieutenants he wanted because DD wanted to pay them less but MON got his way eventually. MON lost out on Sarrachi and Iheanacho for the same reasons. Then we wouldn’t stump up £300,000 for Baur so that was up in the air to.
Then it all started to kick into gear and here we are.
If DD has changed Celtics transfer model he’s probably been forced to this year by MON, as DDs penny pinching was in overdrive after winning the last league title. I’d like to think he was forced to change by the Celtic Fans Collective and the NAP campaign though. Then again this might just be us popping the Civic into the fast lane for a wee bit after buying one with a turbo.
For anyone looking for something to watch this weekend.
This Bill Forsyth – of Gregory’s girl fame – classic is mostly filmed around Brigton in the late 70s, and includes my old primary school and all the places I spent playing as a kid

It might just be a coincidence that the improvement in recruitment has happened since MON returned, but it isn’t.
MON was Mr Desmond’s Hail Mary option, and MON knows it, so he’s got a lot of leverage, and he also knows that he’s only in post for a short time, and this will be his final term as a manager. So he wants to go out on a high.
By the same token, Mr Desmond knows that MON will be only be in post for the remainder of this season, and possible one more after that, so why not just indulge him for the meantime? After that .he can revert to type if he wants.
I’d just enjoy it while it lasts.
Bobby,
A wee gem of a movie, and funny too.
Seeing Brigton the way it was then, kinda explains why I usually went home bruised and bleeding most days ..it was an absolute slum!
To a bunch of 10 year olds though, it was just a very big adventure playground.
BMCUW, Leggy
Thanks
Shankland getting pelters over on Jimmy Bell’s crack shack.
I haven’t seen any of them say they are glad they brought him in.
They also appear to be pissed that “Del” gave him the armband – a move that Derek thought would buy him some staunch points.
I think it’s sunk in that Shankland, Naderi and Miovski aren’t in the same league as the firepower we now have at our disposal.
A good few now petrified they’re not going to be able to halt our march to another 9 in a row.
I know we barely mention the 10iar thing, but you can tell it’s giving them nightmares,, which is nice.
Brave new world,
Hail hail, buddy 👍

Talking about intelligent football players, here was one of the best, his was a “tale of two cities”,
Belfast and Glasgow. Revered in both cities and beyond his game plan thinking was usually two steps ahead of the competition, but his ball skill was pretty impressive too. Supporters from Belfast Celtic and Glasgow Celtic still speak in whispers when they talk about Charlie Tullie.
San Luis: glad to see that you survived that heat, here in Scotia we thankfully have missed all that a good year here. Celtic FC sometimes affects you like a strong breeze brings out the goose bumps.
Keep Well.
Steve: As good a description of Nygren/ Hatate as I’ve read hope you are good, your Bhoy too. H.H.
Grandma turned 70, that phrase made me feel ancient, enjoy your hols.
