Gimme a game
As I type I’m hating the decesion to deprive us of another 90 plus minutes watching this Celtic team.
Its the best feeling in the world when you’re just itching for the whistle to blow, because you know something special is about to happen.
It would have happened I have no doubt but I also understand the managers pre home-tie decision to cancel today’s game. He most likely thought we will need the whole week to prepare for the biggest game of the season, which brings more time for the new Bhoys to integrate. Turns out he didn’t need to cancel this game, but better safe than sorry.
I know its an old cliche, but team spirit is so so important and during the 3rd goal vs Lask celebrations it struck me how good of a group we have. These guys look bonded and together, loving life at Celtic, living for the crowd and playing for pride, enjoyment, and the jersey.
That’s a dangerous situation, thats when “weve got something special here” starts materializing.
Not that we need a boost but imagine we sign a couple before Tuesday, not so they can play, but it sends a message you must perform when we are bringing in talent. More quality in and a victory over there, the positivity would be off the charts with tickets hard to comeby especially CL tickets. Thats where you wanna be as a football club, exciting, on the rise, sold out to the max, and that’s the path we are on.
Putting aside the stadium expansion chat we have made a substantial outlay for future profit in this window but heres my point.
When youve tasted that level of player and income (they are 24 or under and will go for a fortune one day) do you go back? Would the investors not say to Dermot stay on this path when our income breaks the 200m bracket for the first time?
Why would you leave it?
I believe this window was the coffin nail in club signings, punts 3m and under. Dermot is going spend on one hand the money that comes in on the other hand.
Thats what you get when his most trusted advisor took the job as a personal favour plus Mark Cooper is coming up trump’s at discovering good talent within our new pricerange.
He’s let the genie out of the bottle, legend at the helm and dangerous players how can we not fall in love and start dreaming?
&nbso;
These under 24 year olds will boost the balance sheet to an unseen. height, and I really hope this quality over quantity approach now has the leading and deciding voice rather than the ” fast lane then slow lane” approach.
We cannot go back to club signings and punts after this, so in many ways it feels like a beginning. This quality over quantity approach will pay off and piss off/embarrass one certain ex employee, but we all know its the long overdue right track. Without touching his pocket but spending our intake well year on year, when youve got a good player trading system in place, imagine,,,
Dermot make this your legacy, this new strong team and not being afraid to spend over 5m
A different direction has been chosen, thats apparent. Celtic are buying players not just spending money and long may it last.
But this must be our new base level, our springboard to catapult upwards via the profit off this bunch. We cannot go back to Shin Yamadas etc.
I believe this summer the decisions made Celtic turn a corner and once youre on that path theres no going back.
The original “slow lane” was introduced because our players weren’t increasing in value assets but mostly men with the best behind them when they left. Thats no longer the case, 24 and under we are targeting/sanctioning and the point is Dermot backed his horse each way. Aye Martin heres a hoard but we break even with a more compact but better squad.
If under 24 brings the big profit, then theres no need to enter the slow lane again. Spending right now makes a lot of sense on so many levels. It looked like a season of protest now its pure excitement as our new and looking worthy heros step forward. This Club eh,,,as the old song says I fooled around and fell in love.

Maguire concentrates on McBurnie at free kick, and pays the price.
Hull 2 Man U 0. From 2 set plays.
/%/! Tully yah daft auld diddy. Sorry Charlie. xxx.
Good afternoon, friends.
Man Utd at 1/3 were meant to be today’s banker bet, to earn me my “kitty’ to bet on the 3pm kick off’s. 2nil to Hull with half time fast approaching wasn’t in the script!
Brave New World – always good to see new contributors joining in.
45mis to go for Man U to get their act together so my 1st coupon of the EPL doesn’t crash n burn at 1st game 🤬🤞
Rumors of Carrick and McInness switching jobs premature?
BAD, Jobo
Cheers,
Hope we are not reverting to type. Everybody is tired of reading articles that start like these from today:
“Celtic are in talks to sign Slovan Liberec midfielder Ermin Mahmic,….”
“Celtic are in pole position to land midfielder Ermin Mahmic…..”
“Celtic are close to agreeing a season-long loan deal for Chelsea left-back Landon Emenalo..”
“Celtic will explore options at right-back as Alistair Johnston is facing an extended spell on the sideline…..”
Just get it done Celtic! You already have huge evidence of the upside of doing this.
Meanwhile, I note Sevco are giving McInnes even more rope. A £8.5M deal for Girona’s South Korea international winger is apparently pending as is a loan deal for Lens striker Fofana. Their finances are indeed mysterious, as AWE NAW’s posts illustrate.
Ex Machina,
I share your concerns about squad depth. Currently it is the main threat to another league title.
Fortunately, there is still time and funds to fix this.

I stopped putting early kick offs on my coupon as it just meant the bet cost me twice as much when I had to put on the remaking selections at full time. It was happening so often that my mates started betting against me!
Philipe Clement and Norwich headed for bottom of the EFL. He was cheated last week , right enough, as West Brom striker is now retroactively charged for deceiving officials by punching ball into the net. ( No VAR ).
Maeda starts for Ipswich. Looks like he will be playing off striker Emerson, with Paraguayan winger Encisco on the left.

Hull 2, Man U ) – Paul Heaton will be having a party tonight!
Hull 2 Manure 0
Butland not even on the bench (injured??)
Weird transfer.
Rumour we’ve offered €9 million for Ghemedis
CT,
Butland injured and had surgery on his Elbow
Rebus 67
There are the obvious gaps at Keeper, along the backline and midfield.
As you say just under two weeks to recruit.
I imagine the loan market will be used to plug some of these. We must be getting close to the biscuit tin slamming shut.

You shouldn’t believe the media headlines with regards price of players.
The collapse of the PSV player acquisition I reckon was an indication of how much they have available.
I’ll be surprised if they spend any more this season that doesn’t involve a loan.
Their most recent signing a loan signing comes with an unconditional purchase after a number of games.
Also we shouldn’t forget amortisation and the headline figures are bloated.
I still stand by my assertion that they need about £20m extra income this season to satisfy the 70% criteria.
Selling Raskin for £15m leaves them with a £6.5m deficit to address before the the end of March.
Not that I think they will be censured if the transgress it.
RIP Manchester United’s title challenge.
August 22nd – August 22nd.

Hi AWE NAW:
I’m too long in the tooth and too cynical to believe headlines.😊
I’ll be surprised if they acquire the Girona winger and it’s not a loan, just because of his release clause.
And I think you are correct that any transgressions will not be censured. The SFA will not act, even if they were aware of them, and any violation will be obscured from UEFA view.

INIQUITOUS IV😊
Very frustrating morning. Upgraded to Peacock Premium, logged on to watch Daezen, only to find my TV box is now incompatible.
Switched on Lenovo laptop to watch Engels on Paramount, and it keeps turning off!😱. Time for some troubleshooting, methinks.
IQ IV,
The SFA,
The SPFL,
All SPFL clubs competing for European places
UEFA
Will never question it.
No non Scottish club who are being held to a higher standard by their authorities with regards European License compliance will ever question it either. As they will face the wrath of UEFA for doing so.
Ex Machina,
Yes, I think the loan market will be used to backfill. Makes me wonder if there is a hidden cost to loans.
Some of these loans are on better money than some in our squad. Does that have an unsettling effect? In my working life, it was known as salary inversion. Recent hires often earned more than some who had been there for 10+ years…just because of market demand.
I know it unsettled me. I handled it by going out and getting another job with a competitive salary. When my boss heard about it, he took the new job offer to a committee that sanctioned upping my salary to match the offer. I suspect that similar can happen in the football world.
Off out for some gardening,
Rebus
Awe N,
Any thoughts on why UEFA would turn a blind eye? Is it because of their history with Rangers/Sevco? That is, why are they flagging it now, when they ignored it previously?
Rebus
AWENAW
I doubt UEFA would “come after” a club for raising financial concerns about another club. It would be pointless anyway, as I think that any club facing UEFA sanctions if they dared complain about any other club including the huns breaching financial regulations would just leak the details to a friendly journalist.

Read this lads and tell me what you think. Then ask yourselves why is Rangers the black sheep. You’ll need 10mins btw
Im getting a bit concerned that Emanelo, who plays primarily left back but also midfield, will be seen back up not only for KT but also Calmac.
Rebus67,
I think UEFA are also of the opinion that Rangers are too big to fail and if they did then it would be catastrophic for the Scottish game and for long as there are wide eyed rich billy boys or American opportunists willing to foot the bill until they get on a more solid financial footing they will look the other way knowing that’s what the Scottish game and everyone in it desires.
Bawheid Round 1.10pm
A grand photo of Charles Patrick Tully.
i am fortunate enough,ie an old Tim, to have watched the man in action throughout his stay at CP.
My favourite player of all time (probably an age thing) and was there when he scored direct from a corner kick – twice!! as ref decreed the ball was outside the arc!
The only badge on my ancient scarf is CPT.
What a player… rember this was at the time of the old leather ball with laces..
On a flying visit to Glasgow to see Wilco at the Royal Concert Hall.
Murder polis trying to get near enough a bar in the city centre to order a drink.
Should’ve brought Leggy or BRRB to show me some shortcuts.
Whoever is responsible for the business we’ve done to date, give them a long-term contract.
To think we are still in profit, even though it’s so typically Celtic, this time I am genuinely impressed.
All I ever wanted was us to build the very best team we can sensibly afford, and we haven’t been doing that.
I’m sure this team will provide many reminders of why we all love football ..the 3rd goal v Lask being a good example.
I can’t wait to see us play again, and that’s the way it should be.
Watching Dundee derby and the frantic nature of Scottish football on display.
You feel with a little more calmness the decision making would be better.
Some skill on show but the frenetic pace means there is no concistency.
Ferry who we have been linked with has shown well.
Oh dear
Brentford 3 Spurs 0
Dundee player fouled,Utd guy booked.
VAR gets involved decision changed to Dundee player who was fouled booked.
Scottish officialdom clearly demonstrating why they are not fit for purpose.
Brentford miss a pen
Tottenham have spent £300m to somehow get even worse. Quite the achievement.
BAD,
Re: That Sinking Feeling.
Watch this – it is an interview with Bill Forsyth going through his fundraising to make the movie for the grand total of 2500quid.
Kermode Uncut: That Sinking Feeling
By the way classic plot twist when he didn’t get any funding from Scotland’s national drink.
Is it necessary to have an illusion?
Sure looks it if you feel that NAPM impacted on any policy Celtic or DD made imo.
Again a massive variance between the online world and the reality of the world Celtic operate in.
Some need a bogey man i guess.

BraveNewWorld,
Massive welcome and please continue to post.
Bawheid, not sure if you know but my grandfather grew up a stones throw away from the Tully household and was best friends with Charlie’s little brother. The Tullys and McCoys walked in and out of each other’s houses and grandad not only walked to school with Charlies brother but played GAA on the same team and thus they were constantly around each other. Grandad would tease Charlie on a Saturday morning saying come and watch a proper sport and he did usually go watch the GAA then grandad and his brother would walk down to Celtic Park to watch Charlie play for Belfast Celtic.
Years later my uncle Gerry watched one of his best mates play local football then get bought by Glasgow Celtic. Anton of course.
The kid that sat beside me at school was scooped up by Man Utd at 12 and ordered to attend their one weekend a month in N.Ireland School of Excellence. He had an ego though, he knew he was the best player etc and if he was made of chocolate he would have eaten himself. Someone gave him a pill at a party and we all know what happened next.
Hail Hail and thanks for the memories
Evening all.
A quick dip into the blog.
A tune that has a fantastic message IMHO.
Dipping back out.

San Luis,
You’re right there is clearly a time and place for a cut price deal but I refuse to file a Swedish International entering his peak years and cheap as hes in the last year of his contract as a punt.
He was an offer you can’t refuse.
Bit like Hassan who was worth 10m when he had two years left on his deal.
And thats how I can justify some signings like Yang, Balakwisha, Tonetki,,,they were all International players and as a general rule it follows that you are pretty good at your footballing role.
The punts like Inamura and Yamada have stopped thank goodness.
PityMevin,
While Im sure the fans played some part in the board upping the game I have been saying for a long time that if Martin stays Martin spends and tbh it was the easiest decision in the world to basically hand him what came in to do as he likes as it gets all eyes on the pitch and off the board with no negative effect on savings. On this occasion the lazy decision is the right decision and Ill repeat that if Martins job becomes so easy because his latest good side just blow people away with their quality, he stays for that second year and I wouldn’t rule out a 3rd.
Hail Hail
And I should add, if it becomes easy to win ie we just romp everything, Shaun will be next manager as it just needs a familiar face and steady hand on the tiller.

LEWIS CAPALDI PLAYING IT’S A GRAND OLD TEAM ON PIANO
The only reason there has been a significant spend is that Brendan Rodgers utterly exposed Dermot Desmond for what he is. An absentee landlord with no interest in the sport. Easily fooled and manipulated. He’s still an obstacle to progress.
If we get over the line on Tuesday, get Mehmic, a GK, a defensive MF,and the Chelsea LB in,we could do well in the CL

Thanks
