Gimme a game

As I type I’m hating the decesion to deprive us of another 90 plus minutes watching this Celtic team.
Its the best feeling in the world when you’re just itching for the whistle to blow, because you know something special is about to happen.

It would have happened I have no doubt but I also understand the managers pre home-tie decision to cancel today’s game. He most likely thought we will need the whole week to prepare for the biggest game of the season, which brings more time for the new Bhoys to integrate. Turns out he didn’t need to cancel this game, but better safe than sorry.

I know its an old cliche, but team spirit is so so important and during the 3rd goal vs Lask celebrations it struck me how good of a group we have. These guys look bonded and together, loving life at Celtic, living for the crowd and playing for pride, enjoyment, and the jersey.
That’s a dangerous situation, thats when “weve got something special here” starts materializing.

Not that we need a boost but imagine we sign a couple before Tuesday, not so they can play, but it sends a message you must perform when we are bringing in talent. More quality in and a victory over there, the positivity would be off the charts with tickets hard to comeby especially CL tickets. Thats where you wanna be as a football club, exciting, on the rise, sold out to the max, and that’s the path we are on.

Putting aside the stadium expansion chat we have made a substantial outlay for future profit in this window but heres my point.
When youve tasted that level of player and income (they are 24 or under and will go for a fortune one day) do you go back? Would the investors not say to Dermot stay on this path when our income breaks the 200m bracket for the first time?
Why would you leave it?

I believe this window was the coffin nail in club signings, punts 3m and under. Dermot is going spend on one hand the money that comes in on the other hand.
Thats what you get when his most trusted advisor took the job as a personal favour plus Mark Cooper is coming up trump’s at discovering good talent within our new pricerange.
He’s let the genie out of the bottle, legend at the helm and dangerous players how can we not fall in love and start dreaming?

&nbso;

These under 24 year olds will boost the balance sheet to an unseen. height, and I really hope this quality over quantity approach now has the leading and deciding voice rather than the ” fast lane then slow lane” approach.
We cannot go back to club signings and punts after this, so in many ways it feels like a beginning. This quality over quantity approach will pay off and piss off/embarrass one certain ex employee, but we all know its the long overdue right track. Without touching his pocket but spending our intake well year on year, when youve got a good player trading system in place, imagine,,,
Dermot make this your legacy, this new strong team and not being afraid to spend over 5m

A different direction has been chosen, thats apparent. Celtic are buying players not just spending money and long may it last.
But this must be our new base level, our springboard to catapult upwards via the profit off this bunch. We cannot go back to Shin Yamadas etc.

I believe this summer the decisions made Celtic turn a corner and once youre on that path theres no going back.

The original “slow lane” was introduced because our players weren’t increasing in value assets but mostly men with the best behind them when they left. Thats no longer the case, 24 and under we are targeting/sanctioning and the point is Dermot backed his horse each way. Aye Martin heres a hoard but we break even with a more compact but better squad.
If under 24 brings the big profit, then theres no need to enter the slow lane again. Spending right now makes a lot of sense on so many levels. It looked like a season of protest now its pure excitement as our new and looking worthy heros step forward. This Club eh,,,as the old song says I fooled around and fell in love.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say, other than that your interpretation of events is always right. Did a Celtic high heid yin say we can’t compete in Europe? Probably not in those exact words.

Does that mean then that they actually do think we can compete in Europe? Or have done their best to ensure that we can? Of course not.

Most people that I know think it good practice to judge people by their actions, rather than their words. So you asking where any Celtic high heid yin say we can’t compete in Europe, as though the absence of those exact words is proof of anything just goes to show that you can indeed fool some of the people all of the time.

Well for whatever reason the board’s behaviour has ensured that Celtic haven’t been able to compete in Europe. Maybe they’ve being doing their level best and are just incompetent or consistently unlucky.

Your dog shite analogy is inappropriate. I’d say the huns and their culture is more like a malignant tumour. Better dealt with than ignored. As things now stand Scottish football pretends that a club that operated as a limited company somehow survived liquidation. Malignancy spreads.

My recollection is along those lines too. Probably not good enough for NABBLA though.

From AI….

Yes, Ross Desmond did state that the financial gap in European football is “unbridgeable” during his highly controversial speech at the Celtic AGM in November 2025.

Our board are of the opinion that we can’t compete in europe with teams that have a higher income than us. We have consistently struggled against teams that have a fraction of our income.

Can you link where the board,or a member of,stated “we cant compete” in Europe?

Thanks in advance.

===÷=================

Behave Bobby!!where have I showed arrogance in that my “interpretation of the truth is always right,I asked westcraigs to post the link-Ernie then answered with his usual gusto, but no link and got a firm reply

You then answer, again no link,”probably not in those exact words”- I take it thats a no Bobby?

Who am I trying to fool Bobby? No one.

One truth stands tall over layers of goebbellian rumours, non truths, gossip and hearsay that is rampant across Celticmedia, aim for that.it helps us all seeking it.
Dont be going judging the type of character I am because I ask for a link, which if it were said would be provided serious financial media would be all over it.that is not the case.
I will leave you to the vague undefined narrative that exists in (fools)land and will do so for evermore.its more comforting there.
And yes Bobby that last paragraph is a response to having my character questioned due to askin a question?(geezabreak:-))

“Well for whatever reasons” asking for a link as to what a board member said..(still waiting!) has morphed into How are Celtic doing in Europe?? 2 different questions are they not.

The dog shite analysis is bang on.
You want Celtic to verify the hun.not happening friend, you carry on tho with whatever culture war your fighting

This is part of Desmond’s speech at the AGM, trying to justify the Board’s risk averse policy for the Champions League. I’ll post the whole speech next post.

“It has created a gap which keeps growing and challenges any club playing in a smaller European league. Most supporters understand that. Of course, clubs can still punch above their financial weight, and we should aspire to that. But if you swing and miss, you risk the very stability of the club, and that would be profoundly irresponsible.”

Ian Bankier said something similar a few years earlier. I’ll try to locate it.

Haven’t found Bankier’s exact quote yet, but it’s referred to here. I know lads who were at the particular AGM, and Bankier said, “What’s the point of entering the Champions League? We just get a right few doings.” ( or something very akin to that ).

Thanks for reply folks.

If the above is used to augment what westcraigs posted then I dissent.

Having read the full script(ta for link) I understand the context and what is being said.i do not see it as questioning our ambition.it shows exactly where we were at that point in time.chaos-BR2 is an error wholly owned by DD,that tumour was removed-sitting 3rd in league and floundering in Europe,he was right to point out the then unbridgeable gaps in CL,EL&EC and he is right to invoke the memory of 1994 and Celtics future,we could go in big and still be beat jepordizing our future in Celtic,in todays transfer terms it could fall apart quickly,mon(2&3)saved the day.Ross reading Dad’s words added to the chaos.

But remember the agm, like the accounts are of a point in time. The next agm,the next point in time will be different as the residue of br2 is gone and as we see new signing are here after last years transferconfusion) we are on a good path, not an unbridgeable one

I thought Ross said we can’t swing and miss?

Thats about it Mahe, and he is right,i dont want to be playing 3 or 4 EC play off 2 or 3 years after a CL semi.
Basically soccer finance is Psg,barca, real and the bestest league advertised in the whole wide world, anythin outside that is a risk and has to play cards prudently.
If we swing we hit,if we miss that can be debilitating.we had a double last year and were poor in Europe against a backdrop of in-house chaos
Hopefully the agm will be a little less hostile.

Point of correction,,I don’t know the Tullys, the old lower Falls branch of my family knew them well.
That was before my time, Charlie was gone by the time I was born in 74.

Your mate should know my grandad, Wee Bobby McCoy of Saint Dermots, the City Hibs, and the West. My da Martin McCoy plumbed most of the local houses for half a century.
