They Embarrassed The Hoops

Morning, all.

Well, that was a bloody disaster last night. I wasn’t alone in thinking that the tie was far from over, even though we had a three goal advantage going into the second leg. I wasn’t alone either in thinking that if LASK can score three to wipe out our lead, they can score four just as easily. What I didn’t expect was for us to be four goals clear with less than an hour of the tie to play…

And ship five!

We knew this was a decent side who played very much on the front foot. We knew too that we needed our wingers to perform and take the heat from the defence and midfield. Nope, none of them did. We needed the middle of the pitch to be a battleground, and we barely won a skirmish. We needed to protect the defence, protect the ball, avoid giving them an opportunity. Instead, it was “After you, Claude” all bloody night.

In truth, this was a performance that’s been threatening in every game so far-even though we’ve won them all up till last night. LASK were cutting us open at will, just as they did last week. But our domestic opponents had been doing that to us earlier this month too, and we all saw it.

And yet, and yet…it could all have been so different. We started well enough, coping with the initial onslaught of the home side. We even went ahead on the night (giving us that four goal cushion) when CalMac hit one from the edge of the area. It was deflected past the despairing goalie, and even the most pessimistic of Celtic fans must have been humming Zadok The Priest. Aye, that was until Nygren took a turn at the wrong end.

Four goals and four assists so far, and last night was his best assist of all. I’ve no idea what he thought he was doing, but I do know that he passed it straight to the LASK attacker with only the goalie to beat. How we survived till half time having only lost one goal, I do not know. We barely had a shot at goal after our opener, barely strung two passes together, and if I’m honest? If I didn’t have an article to write, I’d have turned the telly off two minutes after half time.

That was all it took for them to go ahead on the night, amd it only took another ten minutes to get their third. Our chances of holding out for the remaining thirty-odd minutes were slim, as were our chances of actually scoring one and knocking the wind from their sails. Of course, they got their equaliser in the dying moments, just as we were beginning to harbour some hope again. They scored the clincher in extra time, but it was just a formality. We had collapsed like a house of cards, as shambolic and disgraceful a performance as I’ve seen in some time.

We deserved eff all, we got eff all. Apart from a damned good thrashing, which is what happens when you are completely outplayed and outfought. We can say goodbye to most of the rumoured signings too. Smashing…

Surprise, Surprise! Despot was at the game, in between feckless Wilson and Nicholson.

They look really happy.

Slovan Bratislava qualify. Remember we drubbed them 5-1?

They prepared. We didn’t.

Evening all,

I don’t really know what all the fuss is about. If we qualified can you be sure the board would just not have banked the money.

In reality, everyone that would have bought the CL package has probably saved £80 odd and a better chance of seeing the team have a chance of winning.

The only draw back is the Thursday kick off against Saturday, Wednesday. The other positive is that if the away games were Saturday, then they would have been early, as the EPL has Saturday night live.

Not going to get upset about the board, the team bottled it. Simple

SAN LUIS 8.15pm
This rumour was mentioned to me earlier this afternoon. Seemingly raised its head last night .

On another point. After Callum’s comments last night and previously does anyone think he may end up with Brendan in the sun before the close of window. Last UCL chance etc. Certainly seems to be in a different mindset regarding our forward path than he has been in previous seasons.

Celtic FC was founded in 1888 and is 138 years old. It has just failed in abject fashion to reach the Champions League Group Stage.

Sabah of Azerbaijan was founded on September 8, 2017, and is almost 9 years old. It’s a Grand Young Team To Play For.

It reached the Champions League Group Stage at its first attempt, after playing 4 qualifying rounds. Their ground has a capacity of between 8,600 and 8,969, with an average league attendance of 1,390 spectators. Their highest attendance this season was 8,969 and their lowest was 300.

Despite their huge disadvantages, they were prepared, and very fit. Celtic were not.

With no CL money, i think you can forget Gineitas. Beyond that, i expect teams will a start to circle, seeing if they can snap up Nygren and others

I think McInnes watched CCV and Trusty get rag dolled last night.

Sevco pay £9.5M for 6’4” Venezuelan international center forward Kelsy from MLS Club Portland. Previous Club Shakhtar Donetsk. 10 goals in 23 games in 2026.

SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2025-26*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #5 LASK 5 CELTIC 1 (a.e.t.) (McGregor)*

Good evening, friends.

As usual, I took copious notes in real time during the game in anticipation of a full match report. But they ended up literally ripped to shreds so I’m going to keep this one very brief indeed.

An absolutely disastrous outcome from where we were after McGregor fired us ahead in the 21st minute. We had started the game pretty well and, scoring first, surely meant that the tie was over? But when Nygren provided his 4th assist of the season with a perfect pass to the Lask striker the alarm bells should have rung louder than they did. We held out until half time and would surely regroup to make sure we were hard to break down in the second half? Instead, we did the opposite! And with Lask having scored 2 more goals by the 58th minute the only remaining surprise was that it took until the 89th to finally draw level and send the game into extra time.

The first half of extra time saw us regain a little of our composure and things briefly looked brighter. But that didn’t last long and 3 minutes after the extra time break we went behind for the first time in the tie to a very avoidable goal – winning a good tackle then dilly dallying on the baw isn’t what Champions League qualifying is all about!

So it’s the Europa League for Celtic and we wait to see the effect that last night’s failure has on our remaining potential signings. Sever deals were apparently well advanced but would it surprise anyone if those particular players now had a change of heart?

Celtic have now played 5 games, winning 4 and losing 1. We have scored 14 and conceded 6.

As for the voting numbers, it was heartwarming to see so many of you sending in your opinions after what was a very disappointing night. I never expected to get anywhere near the numbers of the first 4 games but my sincere thanks to the 72 folk who provided their nominations. Arithmetically the votes won’t reconcile to that as not everybody could provide 3 names, whilst 1 voter did make me smile by suggesting that our ‘least bad’ players were Hassan, Forrest and Kenny. Of course, votes can only be awarded to players who took to the field.

And so to the results. Interesting that 10 of our 11 starters were all nominated by at least 2 voters.

All about opinions right enough. The total votes cast for each player (with my own nominations asterisked) are as follows –

Sinisalo: 24
Donovan: 24
Carter Vickers: 8
Trusty: 3
Tierney*: 18
McGregor*: 54
Baur: 16
Nygren: 0
Duran: 2
Høgh: 5
Yang*: 25
Tounekti: 0
Hatate: 12
Scales: 13
McCowan: 0
Murray: 4
Ralston: 0
Unused subs: Balikwisha, Doohan, Forrest, Hassan, Kenny, Osmand

And so, the POINTS earned by each player for the game against Lask are as follows –
25 – McGregor
22 – Yang
19 each – Donovan and Sinisalo
14 – Tierney
12 – Baur
11 – Scales
10 – Hatate
9 – Carter-Vickers
8 – Høgh
7 – Murray
6 – Trusty
5 – Duran
3 each – Nygren, McCowan, Ralston, Tounekti
1 each – Balikwisha, Doohan, Forrest, Hassan, Kenny and Osmand

And the CUMULATIVE POINTS after 5 games played are as follows –
79 – McGregor and Nygren
79 – Duran
69 – Tierney
67 – Donovan
60 – Carter-Vickers and Høgh
52 – Sinisalo and Yang
46 – Trusty
37 – Tounekti
33 – Baur
30 – Engels
23 – Scales
21 – McCowan
18 – Hatate
17 – Johnston
16 – Forrest
14 – Murray and Oxlade-Chamberlain
10 – Hassan
9 – Osmand
8 – Ralston
5 – Doohan
2 – Balikwisha and Kenny

It’s back to League action for our next game this coming Saturday. A rare home 3.00pm kick off against Falkirk. I can’t say that I’m yet getting excited by it…
Hail Hail!
