I’m Pissed Off With Being Pissed Off

Morning, all.

There’s quite a bit to cover today after yesterday’s events, almost all of which happened to Celtic without us taking any active part. The one that we knew about in advance was the draw for the Europa League. It wasn’t particularly kind to us, but could have been worse. We don’t face any arduous trips to the other side of the planet, for starters. And there’s every chance of us making the post-group matches. Not much chance though of doing so without that qualifying round first for the round of sixteen.

Hot on the heels of the draw being revealed, we had the outcome of the SFA disciplinary process regarding our cup game at Ibrox in March. Quite incredibly-but not, in hindsight-surprisingly, they decided to treat both defendants as equally guilty. That means that they viewed an outpouring of joy and celebration, confined to a couple of dozen fans celebrating a win with the players, as being the same as the hundreds of hun hordes who invaded the pitch with only one thought in mind-to inflict damage on the away support. Both teams were told that their next home  Scottish cup tie will be played behind closed doors, with a £100,000 compensation fee awarded to the other side.

My own thoughts on this are that the club-who vigorously protested the punishment in their response-will appeal this. Personally, I think they may be on to plums. There is no moral high ground when your fans have invaded the pitch, no matter the cause. We may not like that, but that’s likely to be how it is argued. Countermeasures like telling them to stuff their cup competition aren’t likely to even be considered. Not with our board who treat every penny as a prisoner.

The bad news kept coming too, with our Ibrox chums using the above as the perfect reason to cut our League Cup allocation to a risible 300. And no, I didn’t leave out a zero. 300 tickets barely covers the allocation for directors and other staff-I wonder how many we can fit in the dugout?-so the public sale will be somewhat limited. There are no rules on ticket allocations in the competition, so we don’t have a leg to stand on here. And we provided a rod for our own backs bin the form of previous pitch invasions, gleefully referenced by Der Hun. They might have failed miserably in their attempt to gain that moral high ground I mentioned, but they managed to move the narrative away from their woeful exit from Europe the previous night.

We, of course, are still getting it in the neck for our capitulation on Tuesday. Rightly so, I might add. MON didn’t try very hard to defend the indefensible, but the hacks were like a pack of rabid dogs. If it wasn’t the game itself, they wanted to know how it might affect our planned moves in the transfer market. Martin game fully said that he hoped it wouldn’t have an effect, but the three top candidates beforehand-Mahmic, Gineitis, and Sugur-look to have decided that they will be better served elsewhere. That’s their decision, though it probably serves our board well too. Our latest target is a 19yo Dutch guy with about the same experience as McArdle. And I’m not too pleased either with our lack of cover elsewhere, particularly in goal and at left back.

Still, today will hopefully allow us to forget about the above for a couple of hours at least. CalMac might miss the game due to a stomach bug, an avoidable malady caused no doubt by being stuck on a plane with Trusty, who had the same on the flight to Austria. I’d be surprised if CCV makes it, and the same goes for Høgh. This should give us a chance to see the lesser-spotted Osmand, at least for some of the game. Scales should start, but I have no idea who will replace our captain. That’s what happens when you lose our two most energetic midfielders without replacing them. And today is, I believe, the start of a run of weekend and midweek games all the way through to the first international break.

The board still have a couple of days left to get some bodies in to relieve the pressure on everyone, but hitting an injury problem so early in the season doesn’t bode well for the long arduous months to come. It is obvious that our squad is massively below the quality required, but for it to be massively short in quantity as well is a disgrace.

But, knowing our board, they will look at the drop in numbers of the playing staff and…fire somebody in payroll for being surplus to requirements. Not so many wages to be calculated, you see.

Everything that has happened this week has mightily pissed me off, as you may have noticed. I’ll still be pissed off tomorrow, amd probably for a while to come. But at least for those couple of hours this afternoon, I’m hoping to have something to cheer about.

Wouldn’t it be nice?

We now have a new JustGiving page set up to enable donations to be made for our latest charity appeal.

We wanted to focus again on a local charity, and this time one which is dedicated to helping those suffering from homelessness, addiction or poverty.

The one we have gone for is

It is coming up to that time of year when the betting aficionados amongst us have to get our thinking caps on again.

As usual, our site will run a NAPS COMPETITION with some healthy prize money, and once again it will start on St Leger Day in September and run through till the last day of Royal Ascot in June. There will be a short break from the end of November till the end of January.

And for those whose betting interests are mainly centred on the football, we will also run our MAGNIFICENT SEVEN accumulator, starting on the same day and finishing when we no longer have eight leagues to pick from. Usually the end of April. Let’s hope that it gives us a more magnificent return than the litany of near-misses and total failures we got last term!

We will be looking for volunteers for this year’s ACCA , so please join up!

Both these initiatives are FREE TO ENTER, and will be on their own dedicated page nearer the time. I look forward to your participation.

August 29, 2026 8:19 am

D R M has also very kindly volunteered to operate a competition over the three days of the AYR GOLD CUP meeting. Usual rules, with a selection from each race.

There is £100 of prize money, and as alway is FREE TO ENTER!

More details will be available on the dedicated page nearer to the beginning of the event on 18th September.

The champions league money is now gone and will likely be gone for a very long time.
The europa league is of little interest to the board. They will try to fleece the support for as much as possible. That will be the total focus in the boardroom. What level to set ticket prices.
If the board believe we can win the league without spending another penny then that is the route they will go down. Given the mess sevco are in that is a possibility. We will sell a few more players to boost the bank balance and wait until January to see how we stand in the league. If we are struggling, expect a couple of loan signings.
I don’t think Martin will see the season out. I’m sure he is greatly disillusioned at the way things are going, just like Brendan was at this time last season.

Another embarrassing press conference from MON yesterday.
At least Brendan called them out. No chance of MON doing the same , he wouldn’t want to upset the owner.

Thousands who had absolutely nothing to do with events in March could now lose the opportunity to attend our next home Scottish Cup tie’.

Yeah MON answering a completely different question to the one he was asked: failing in the last 6 CL qualifiers was pitiful. He has no stomach to hold this boards lack of ambition to account.

Buy the new merch, it’s a tribute to the Lisbon Lions on their 60th anniversary year.
An ambitionless board urging us to buy merch which commemorates those Celts whose ambition was limitless.

On their 60th anniversary.

If this board was in charge in 67 they would have found a way to make sure we didn’t make it to the European Cup final.

Apologies for adding more pissed offness to your pissed off with being pissed off state.

I’ll piss off now.

Those governing Scottish football need to wake up and smell the roses.
Every single one of this years entrants into European competitions failed miserably, its not taking money and punishing the clubs that’s needed its trying to encourage more supporters into the game, more cash into the game, my instincts tells me that the fines are more about filling the SFA coffers.
Funny how in all the discussions about Scottish football that they remain unscathed, just like in 2012, with Regan dictating the Lord Nimmo Smith enquiry, the quiet men hold sway but not in a good way. Place the blame where it belongs, with the suits running / killing Scottish football.

GAME MANAGEMENT: Remember that Martin, how you protect a one goal lead (one goal Ha!).
Its there on show in every world cup or senior league, how to protect a lead, like feign injury, slow down the pace of the game, it was very revealing how we panicked and fell back to protect our box booting the ball everywhere instead of making changes and controlling the game.
That was down to you Martin and YOUR team.

Look out for Der Hun at CP in Scottish cup with no supporters and then we have to pay the dirty bassas 100k compen. That would just be like the SFA to arrange the draw as such to assist their buddies from down Govan way.

Can’t see us home to Sevco in the cup.
More likely a resurgent Hearts to face us without backing from our fans in a full stadium with maximum ticket sales.

Meanwhile yet another home tie for the Huns against the lowest of the low. A side that wouldn’t fill the stadium so a low financial loss at the gate.

No matter how low Despot and Lackeys go we know they can go lower.
The money these charlatans are on for being completely useless and detrimental to success is sickening.
The fans should boycott the Europa league as a sign they have had enough.
That and the reality of us being whipping boys to make up numbers.

A team shake up!
With the cautious and clueless coaches we have?
Only a huge injury list will make that happen.

August 29, 2026 12:00 pm

FRODSHAMBHOY, FAN

I don’t think we have the numbers available for a huge squad shake-up. Which is why I’ve been so concerned about injury to our more important players.

We won’t see CL football for many a year to come. In truth if we can’t score against the might of Kazakhstan in 200+ mins or defend a four goal advantage for under an hour, then in truth we don’t deserve to be anywhere near that elite level.

Our Board know this full well, hence they stopped budgeting for it many moons ago.

August 29, 2026 1:12 pm

SANLUIS

Chicken and egg stuff there. We aren’t good enough because our academy doesn’t produce, and the board won’t buy the players we need. But the board won’t buy the players because we aren’t good enough.

Yet we were good enough when they DID buy the players.

Liverpool again getting beat by their bogey team, Nottingham Forest, at Anfield.

If Forest hang on, it will be their 3rd straight win at Anfield in the League.

Posted this last night, but most of you would have been asleep. Thought the video was interesting

Was watching an interview with Gary Neville and Kyle Walker, talking about Pep. KW says Pep’s direction was ‘set the ball; dont turn on the ball’ and explained that meant Pep didnt want his midfielders to receive the ball facing their own goal, and then turn with the ball, because it slowed down the play too much. He said DeBruyne would let the ball run past him and turn as the ball passed him, which didnt slow play down as much’.
Pep would have had a fit at Celtic then … I would say the majority of Celtic’s passes are to players facing backwards!

I’ve argued similar for a while. O’Riley was good at taking the ball with his back to goal, but he’s about the only one we’ve had in the last decade or so. And it is Hatate’s biggest weakness, he simply cannot do it.

Taking a pass with your back to goal requires an awareness of position and movement of teammates.
They would need awareness to attack open spaces to receive ball.
Since we are repetitive and reactionary no sense of such!

With a physically intimidating midfield.
Just shockingly bereft.
I’ll be surprised if KT, CCV or Ox last 90 minutes.
We are forced to include McCowan and Tounekti on the bench because we have no one else.

Really looking forward to this game. It has assumed greater importance since the LASK disaster. Both the result and the performance have assumed a significance that they did not have one week ago.

I expect to see a rampant Celtic today even without Hogh and Calmac. In fact, this provides an opportunity to see a) Duran as a striker, and ) a midfield w/o Calmac.

Almost certainly Falkirk will play two blocks of 5 and 4 with little space between them. Goal scoring will be dependent on counter attacks and set pieces.

Counter attacking is probably inhibited by Falkirk’s injury list.

Rationally, that is how it should unfold but, hey, this is Celtic ball!

Afternoon bhoys, haven’t been on for a while as I’m totally pissed off with what’s happening at Celtic, can anyone explain how we got to this position, I know I have spoken about the lack of midfielders, but how in hell did we sell Engels and ruined Bernardo and have been left with a bare bones of a squad, I’m sick of reading about who we’re going to sign when the mob in charge have no intention of buying anyone, also the Lask result was a total embarrassment, IQ thanks for the train video

Indeed Bobby, but different days, and football has changed a lot since then. Nonetheless, no team, not even Bon Accord Jnrs would lose a game when 4 goals to the good against a lesser opponent. It’s utterly preposterous and ever so slightly embarrassing for the players and Management involved.

I gave the players and Manager it tight last year over Kairat and I’m giving them it tighter this year over Tuesdays debacle.

Both the team put out last year and the one this year were more than good enough to win those ties . No one will convince me otherwise.

4-0 up for goodness sake.

Hi Mike:
He still has to serve one more game of his European ban, incurred while he was with Besiktas. He needs to be named in the Europa Squad to fulfill the ban.

Neither Nicholson nor MON was even aware of the ban until they were informed by a journalist, and why Ox did not inform them baffles me.
