I’m Pissed Off With Being Pissed Off
Morning, all.
There’s quite a bit to cover today after yesterday’s events, almost all of which happened to Celtic without us taking any active part. The one that we knew about in advance was the draw for the Europa League. It wasn’t particularly kind to us, but could have been worse. We don’t face any arduous trips to the other side of the planet, for starters. And there’s every chance of us making the post-group matches. Not much chance though of doing so without that qualifying round first for the round of sixteen.
Hot on the heels of the draw being revealed, we had the outcome of the SFA disciplinary process regarding our cup game at Ibrox in March. Quite incredibly-but not, in hindsight-surprisingly, they decided to treat both defendants as equally guilty. That means that they viewed an outpouring of joy and celebration, confined to a couple of dozen fans celebrating a win with the players, as being the same as the hundreds of hun hordes who invaded the pitch with only one thought in mind-to inflict damage on the away support. Both teams were told that their next home Scottish cup tie will be played behind closed doors, with a £100,000 compensation fee awarded to the other side.
My own thoughts on this are that the club-who vigorously protested the punishment in their response-will appeal this. Personally, I think they may be on to plums. There is no moral high ground when your fans have invaded the pitch, no matter the cause. We may not like that, but that’s likely to be how it is argued. Countermeasures like telling them to stuff their cup competition aren’t likely to even be considered. Not with our board who treat every penny as a prisoner.
The bad news kept coming too, with our Ibrox chums using the above as the perfect reason to cut our League Cup allocation to a risible 300. And no, I didn’t leave out a zero. 300 tickets barely covers the allocation for directors and other staff-I wonder how many we can fit in the dugout?-so the public sale will be somewhat limited. There are no rules on ticket allocations in the competition, so we don’t have a leg to stand on here. And we provided a rod for our own backs bin the form of previous pitch invasions, gleefully referenced by Der Hun. They might have failed miserably in their attempt to gain that moral high ground I mentioned, but they managed to move the narrative away from their woeful exit from Europe the previous night.
We, of course, are still getting it in the neck for our capitulation on Tuesday. Rightly so, I might add. MON didn’t try very hard to defend the indefensible, but the hacks were like a pack of rabid dogs. If it wasn’t the game itself, they wanted to know how it might affect our planned moves in the transfer market. Martin game fully said that he hoped it wouldn’t have an effect, but the three top candidates beforehand-Mahmic, Gineitis, and Sugur-look to have decided that they will be better served elsewhere. That’s their decision, though it probably serves our board well too. Our latest target is a 19yo Dutch guy with about the same experience as McArdle. And I’m not too pleased either with our lack of cover elsewhere, particularly in goal and at left back.
Still, today will hopefully allow us to forget about the above for a couple of hours at least. CalMac might miss the game due to a stomach bug, an avoidable malady caused no doubt by being stuck on a plane with Trusty, who had the same on the flight to Austria. I’d be surprised if CCV makes it, and the same goes for Høgh. This should give us a chance to see the lesser-spotted Osmand, at least for some of the game. Scales should start, but I have no idea who will replace our captain. That’s what happens when you lose our two most energetic midfielders without replacing them. And today is, I believe, the start of a run of weekend and midweek games all the way through to the first international break.
The board still have a couple of days left to get some bodies in to relieve the pressure on everyone, but hitting an injury problem so early in the season doesn’t bode well for the long arduous months to come. It is obvious that our squad is massively below the quality required, but for it to be massively short in quantity as well is a disgrace.
But, knowing our board, they will look at the drop in numbers of the playing staff and…fire somebody in payroll for being surplus to requirements. Not so many wages to be calculated, you see.
Everything that has happened this week has mightily pissed me off, as you may have noticed. I’ll still be pissed off tomorrow, amd probably for a while to come. But at least for those couple of hours this afternoon, I’m hoping to have something to cheer about.
Wouldn’t it be nice?

Keevins said earlier that Celtic should do the “humane” thing with Martin.
I don’t know if he means retirement or Pure Cremation?
🤔
He seems a bit stressed, frustrated and depressed but surely the latter would be a bit extreme?
MIT,
Everybody seems worried that we don’t have replacement LB / CH / CFs.
Why not just label it ‘expansive fitba’ and play wingers everywhere? Hatch the masterplan.
Where DD might have missed the boat was pre 2023 when the American bloke bought Carlisle United. Now that might have been a way to get us into the English leagues.
Billy Bhoy
scottish football doesn’t do the humane thing … hell, even AFTER Rangers died, Scottish football still wouldn’t let them rest in peace!
they’re basically the footballing version of Weekend at Bernie’s!
*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2025-26*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #6 CELTIC 2 FALKIRK 1 (DURAN(2)*
Good evening, friends.
As the teams emerged from the tunnel, I’d guess there wasn’t a single fan in Celtic Park who remained disappointed from our midweek game and our failure to close out that tie. But did we really need Celtic fans to hold up banners with the names of every team that has beaten us at the qualifying stage over the last dozen years? Hardly the type of things to encourage our players? I really failed to see the point of that – it certainly didn’t add anything to what we already knew. Rant over!
The team lines showed 2 changes from midweek with the injured Calmac and Høgh replaced by Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hassan. And both of those replacements were to give performances that may well see them staying in the team. It also meant Duran playing through the middle and it took him less than 5 minutes to get off the mark, finishing off a good early ball over the top from Carter-Vickers with the aid of some edge of the box fumbling from Scott Bain. Wrongly flagged for offside but correctly overturned by the VAR.
Both Hassan and Yang were doing what wingers are meant to do – beating their men and getting balls into the box and there was certainly lots to be pleased about in that opening half hour. And on the 30 minute mark Celtic scored again. After some pressure in our own box, Sinislao released Tierney on the left side. An exchange of passes with Yang saw Tierney then deliver a ball into that infamous corridor of uncertainty where Duran was anything but, nicking the ball home like a true number nine. We fed him on a Sat’day and our hearts stood still, Duran ran ran, ran, Duran, ran ran.
5 minutes later, Baur from the inside left position had a chance to make it 3 but Bain saved well with his left foot. 2 clear at half time but with Tuesday still fresh in our minds I didn’t hear anyone suggesting the points were safe.
And talk about a game of two halves! During the 2nd 45 we looked lethargic, slower to react, tame in the tackle and also passed up 3 or 4 decent chances, mostly over the bar. Fortunately Falkirk, despite more possession, were creating very little. Until our parting of the waves in the 72nd minute allowed Falkirk’s Murrell to advance from the halfway line into our box. His effort was well saved by Sinisalo, but the ball bounced off Donovan and into the net.
Celtic didn’t really look like conceding again but it was still a rather nervy last 20 minutes before the victory was secured.
Celtic have now played 6 games, winning 5 and losing 1. We have scored 16 and conceded 7. We sit 2 points clear at the top of the table.
Another fine turnout of voters, so thank you for that. For this latest game, 103 provided their nominations, meaning we have hit the 100+ target in 5 of the opening 6 games – £15 (already) to Glasgow City Mission.
The total votes cast for each player (with my own nominations asterisked) are as follows –
Sinisalo: 1
Donovan: 9
Carter Vickers: 5
Scales*: 8
Tierney: 14

Duran: 102
Yang: 4
Forrest: 2
Trusty: 0
Osmand: 0
McCowan: 0
Tounekti: 0

And so, the POINTS earned by each player for the game against Falkirk are as follows –

16 – Hassan
14 – Tierney
12 – Donovan

10 – Carter-Vickers
9 – Yang
8 – Forrest
7 – Sinisalo
4 each – Nygren, McCowan, Osmand, Tounekti, Trusty

And the CUMULATIVE POINTS after 6 games played are as follows –

p.s. embdy know substitute Kennedy’s first name and/or position: no info on Celtic FC site…..
Hail Hail!
Thanks as always, JOBO. The answer to your question is Liam Kennedy, central midfield. I think he’s 18yo.

UPDATE: Celtic have agreed a £3.4m deal to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joel Van Den Berg.
It’s understood the Netherlands U19 international is due to travel to the UK tomorrow to undergo a medical and finalise the paperwork on his move.
It’s believed the Scottish champions view van den Berg as a replacement to Arne Engels, who departed to West Ham for £22m earlier this month.
Great work again, Jobo.
DD may be a zillion dollar Irish baby but he doesnt give a rats arse about anything Scottish and just like most Irish from the republic he does love the English. Wanks to them.Therein lies the dilemma. We have been waiting on the bigoted English letting in the OF all this century. Never happening. Now its a chronic tuberculosis of the OF waiting to die while collecting the local bigot buck until further notice. Keep the Faith.
Craig 76
Watching one of Joel Van Den Berg’s YouTube vids, he doesn’t half get fouled.
He will get crocked quickly playing for us.
CaltonTongues
He’ll fit right in then, keep the rest of the bhoys company in the treatment room.
Craig 76,
😁😁😁
So we’re signing a guy for £3.4m , to replace a guy we bought for £11m and sold for £22m .
Got to keep the bank balance as high as possible.
St Tams….. I’m with you there. Not even one costing half of Arne’s purchase but a lousy quarter.
Shower of shits

Linesmen are told to keep their flag down until an attack has been completed.
I’m watching Sportscene and noticed that this guy couldn’t get his flag up quick enough.
Hassan hasn’t struck the ball yet. If the ref blows here our opening goal doesn’t count!

Europa opponents today.
Toreense 0 Vizela 3
Union St, Gilloise 3 Anderlecht 0
Monaco 2 Marseille 0
So by Wednesday night, all we need is a goalie ( we only have 2 to list on EL nights ), 2 fullbacks, a center back, midfielder, left winger, and a striker to replace Hogh.
Easy Peasy for Lucan, who is making it up as he goes along.😱
Iniv
I think we should now refer to him as Not Lucan…
🙄
IQ4,
Something has been bugging me and I thought I would ask you.
I’m sure youve heard that at the famous Ajax academy the kids are all taught to play the same way from 11 upwards to enable them to slot in seamlessly to the tier above.
Who selects/selected that style of play? Board, DOF, Majority shareholder?
Does the style of play change with the times or is it rigid?
Hail Hail
So we buy, for decent money, the Dutch Under 21 Captain who’s fans are upset he’s leaving, who is a big boy with a big future in the game ahead, who plays in a position we need more strength in, and people are upset.
Whatever happened to “Ill give you a proper judgement after hes played 20 games”? and “screw the fee its about the player himself”?
Funny I seem to recall Stan Petrov being the Under21 Captain, being a 19 year old signed for decent money, and just like Van the Man getting questioned.
And before anyone says he’s not suitable to be Engels replacement first of all you cannot state that with certainty and secondly why would the quality stop? He will buy cheaper quality yes, but still quality. Plus apparently theres another midfielder coming, thus he isn’t the direct replacement but midfield depth and tbh if you said to me Chaiwa or this kid for 4m to add depth I would have opted for Van the Man.
I can see it now, within 2 or 3 games the general support will be typing weve got a player here and this initial skepticism will be brushed under the carpet.
A 19 year old with balls big enough to back himself to leave home and succeed? “When I heard Celtic I couldnt say no”.
Not only that but Kasper and Benji get a new friend for their smorgasbord and he gets their wisdom, friendship, and comraderie at a brand new club.
Final words, dont write off Van the Man before hes even begun.
