Singing In The Rain
Morning, all.
It’s the last day of the Scottish transfer window today, and while it seems to have stretched on interminably, that is never long enough for our club to do the business required by the manager and the fans. I’ll start to deal with that mess and where we go from here tomorrow. For now, I’ll settle for discussing our latest match.
Aberdeen were the visitors, and their manager must be sorely disappointed in them. I don’t think they put in a single nasty challenge all night! After the visit from Falkirk at the weekend, another team who try to play the game the right way, it’s like a whole new ball game for us. Suddenly we aren’t having to jump out of the way of an assault any time we collect the ball, but I’m sure that normal service will be resumed when TFOD visit in just over two weeks.
We got to see some of our latest signings too as Mheuka and Sørensen made debuts from the bench. The former, an 18yo from Chelsea, looks a real handful, and I reckon we will be talking about this lad a lot over the coming months. The latter looks quite handy, a useful addition to the engine room. Pity they’re both on loan!
We started off on the front foot, Hassan in particular setting the scene for his evening by getting the first cross in after only two minutes. Our first corner arrived shortly afterwards, and the visitors already knew they were in for a hard shift. Made harder still on the quarter hour mark, when Nygren shifted the ball to Duran on the D. A shimmy to make space for the shot was all he needed as he blasted the ball past the keeper. Hit almost as hard as his screamer two weeks ago, and there is little doubt that we have a player on our hands.
We didn’t rest on our laurels, Nygren having a shot saved almost from the restart and Yang putting in a dangerous ball which Hassan couldn’t quite convert. Duran saw another effort saved, before Nygren scored his customary goal against the Dons. Another Hassan cross saw the ball break for him to fire home from 15 yards.
Aberdeen made a rare foray up the pitch just on half time, hitting the bar from a corner, but Donovan slipped the loose ball clear to Duran who quickly fed Yang to break clear. He slotted home from the edge of the area to put us on a solid footing for the second half.
Again, we started brightly with Hassan firing one over the bar from the restart. But we couldn’t keep up the momentum from the first half. This may have had something to do with the four HT subs made by Robinson to tighten things up. We created chances, forced plenty of corners, but it was only in the last fifteen minutes that we began to look dangerous again, with shots peppering the goal from Mheuka (Shim The Tim!), Baur, Forrest and Scales.
It was a comfortable enough win, and a good performance. No complaints from me. Well, maybe one. MIB Nicholson, who did his level best to reinterpret the advantage rule to his own meaning. Another ref who lets us know what we can expect the minute he sets foot on the pitch. Willie Collum will have his work cut out with him in future.
Onto St Mirren on Saturday, an 8pm kick off, our 100% record still intact. Smashing.

We now have a new JustGiving page set up to enable donations to be made for our latest charity appeal.
We wanted to focus again on a local charity, and this time one which is dedicated to helping those suffering from homelessness, addiction or poverty.
The one we have gone for is

It is coming up to that time of year when the betting aficionados amongst us have to get our thinking caps on again.
As usual, our site will run a NAPS COMPETITION with some healthy prize money, and once again it will start on St Leger Day in September and run through till the last day of Royal Ascot in June. There will be a short break from the end of November till the end of January.
https://sentinelcelts.com/2026/08/31/saturday-naps-competition-2/
And for those whose betting interests are mainly centred on the football, we will also run our MAGNIFICENT SEVEN accumulator, starting on the same day and finishing when we no longer have eight leagues to pick from. Usually the end of April. Let’s hope that it gives us a more magnificent return than the litany of near-misses and total failures we got last term!

We will be looking for volunteers for this year’s ACCA , so please join up!
Both these initiatives are FREE TO ENTER, so please click on the links provided.
D R M has also very kindly volunteered to operate a competition over the three days of the AYR GOLD CUP meeting. September 17-19th
Usual rules, with a selection from each race.
There is £100 of prize money, and as alway is FREE TO ENTER!

Ah, gotcha.
I agree mostly with CT in that case, although I think it’ll be a toss up between Tounetki ( useless) and Osmond ( injury prone) to drop out.

Well done that Cameraman catching Duran’s stunner.

A long interesting read with regards the hun finances. I make some stark comparisons with Leeds Utd and what their end game is.
Salt n Sauce Derby tonight. Hope Hibs can get something from the game, but Hearts , like Celtic, look too strong going forward.
Looks like everyone else is also having too busy a Thursday for posting on here.
4 hours until the domestic window closes, then I’ll post my own wee summary on here.

Last night was similar to Saturday. Game won by HT and not much to report in the second half.
MON criticised Hassan on Saturday for showboating. He clearly hasn’t listened. Last night I thought he was auditioning for the Harlem Globetrotters. He would do well to look at James Forrest. BR said last year that Jamesie was the best winger at the club. He still is. His cameo last night produced the best two crosses of the night and the best shot bar Duran’s strike.
I’m torn with the 5 subs thing. Sure, it gives everyone a run out and protects KT and the Ox etc but it sure stifles fluency and entertainment. That’s zero second half goals in both home games.
Reform idiot
Kind of ironic that the louden closure was marked by a flute band (in various summer outfits) playing some “loyalist” tunes.

The cynic in me thinks we are holding back the Van Der Berg announcement to make more palliative the “We couldn’t get the Gineitis deal over the line” simultaneous statement, thus saving the Board £9M or so for the one player that can occupy the gaping hole in the middle of our sieve-like midfield.
———————————-
Woke up this morning with this going through my head:
”Telt ye!”
Iniquitous IV
Last night the opposition held no threat down the middle so either Robinson has no clue or he doesn’t have the players to threaten in that area.
Was noticeable that Calum and Ox played a little closer so maybe they choked the Dons space?
Calmac started the game with 4 backwards passes but after about 15 minutes started to turn upfield and was more positive than usual.
Was this because of a coaching directive or did he simply understand how weak Aberdeen were?
Hopefully coaches are recognizing and with player additions and tactics we are somewhat addressing issue.
I think we were all aware that Torino player was usual boardroom squirrel.
So outcome unsurprising!
Huns capture Bouanani from VFB Stuttgart for a year. A good player I have to admit. I think they’re copying our “mullions of wingers” strategy
Anyone else totally baffled by the dealings going on at Ibrox?
They had 2 players that played at the world cup (Ratskin and Assguard) and right at the end of the window they’d agreed to let both go on loan??
What sense does that make? Even if they both were loans with obligations to purchase at the end of the loans, they are the only half decent players they have in that area of the park.
There’s surely more going on here than their fans are being told. Maybe don’t want the fans to know they want out? Wee Ratskin being a pain in the arse again?
Something doesn’t add up here.
They thought they had 3-4 players they thought they could sell for sizeable amounts – to date they haven’t recouped a single penny for any of them.
Fernandez, they feel, has ejected the toys from the pram as his form has fallen off a cliff.
Asgaard has been allowed to leave on loan.
Ratskin was on his way to Besiktas on loan before something changed late in the day.
Chermitti was played in the day they had agreed a deal to sell him, resulting in him getting a season ending injury, which means they can forget ever getting anything near that amount again.
Why would they have agreed to loan both Asgaard and Ratskin when they are the two they were most likely to get sizeable amounts for?
That’s before anyone asks where their money is coming from.
Looking at the Hun squad, agreeing to let Asgaard and Ratskin go out on loan would mean they’re left with Chukwuani, Neil, Devlin and Dragojevic, and that’s it for the whole season??
Like I said, utterly baffling.
BAD,
You should click on my link above.
In summary what we are witnessing is a switcherooni in installments while keeping the customer base on side.
The aim is for the Delaware consortium to gain absolute control of them. To do so they need 75%
They currently own 51%
Every share issue is one step closer. This summer share issue of 16m will take them to 56%. We find out for sure in November when they release their accounts.
If as I have projected the huns are £22m in debt next summer. A reasonable projection I would say and the consortium swallows that debt by issuing another share issue then the consortium will have 67% ownership. Not 75% but as 11% of their shareholding has been frozen. Blue pitch holdings etc. Then that 67% becomes 75% and they can then do what they like and what they want.
So what we are witnessing here mainly is a boardroom takeover.
There may be questions asked like you have asked about financial sensibility. It makes no financial sense whatsoever. Short or long-term.
What can be ascertained for certain is that the provenance of the money being invested now and in the future cannot be investigated by any UK institution. The fact that it comes from the Delaware consortium is enough.
Are they just honest American investors who just happen to love king Billy?
Are they former Ibrox investors who desire more privacy with regards their offshore untaxable savings ?
Are they using one half of the old firm as a money laundering outfit and are unconcerned by UEFA FSR ?
Who knows ?
THE SHOW MUST GO ON
Awe naw,
I’ll have a proper look when I get in later, thanks.
The big hoose must stay broken.

About last night…
Really enjoyed the way we played… seems to be more of a team effort and parts working well together.
A reset after LASK ?
Disappointed to read some negativity on Hassan… he skinned his full back ( and often the double up) to send over cross after cross and on occasion came inside well.
Quite sly by their no 9 making elbow gestures to the ref after Scales won a header in the box and Nisbet went down.
Clean win by Scales ( I was right behind it ) although Nisbet took a sore one.
Reports of Calmac’s demise are greatly exaggerated… don’t criticise him with goals in
your mouth.
Hassan was in my top three for Jobo!
Ex-Celt, Lewis Morgan, joins my local team Toronto FC.
Euro squad announced. Two Chelsea boys and the new Dutch lad all miss out!
Even more bonkers, is we’ve included 4 right backs in it !!
Begs the question, what was the point of these last minute signings yesterday?
Utterly incompetent as ever.
Van den Berg, Emenalo, Mheuka not in it from the new bhoys 🤷♀️
Hope they didn’t entice them to come in on the basis of EL football 🫣
No Chelsea guys in EL Squad
Make it make sense , someone, please!
Police Scotland has executed warrants in Rutherglen, Tollcross, Wishaw, and Greenock this morning, arresting more people in connection with disorder at the Trongate following Celtic’s league win over Hearts.
47 people have now been arrested since May
1 left back,no Jota
No van den Berg
Steve,
Howdy.
Negativity around Hassan’s performance? He was having a great game till he tired, I thought, about half way through the SH.
I thought all our wide men had a good night, including James who always contributes to taking the game directly at the opposition
I’m not a fan of Scales, due to his struggles in finding a team mate standing 3 yards away from him. He also had a decent game, especially when called upon to defend.
He does have a big heart though
I’m still to be convinced by Sinisalo, and feel we would benefit from having a more commanding keeper, while he may benefit from the competition
Donovan is growing with every outing. If AJ is going to be as unreliable as it’s starting to look, fitness wise, Colby’s timing couldn’t be better
Carpet slippers is well named ..strolled it.
I thought Trusty was calm and composed for the majority of last night’s match.
Callum may not be Patrick Viera or Roy Keane, but he’s still the best midfielder in this country.
Oxlade – Chamberlain looks a different player after having the summer to get himself up to speed. I think he’s been great the last couple of games. Classy.
Hassan is very left sided, and yet when he’s forced onto his right he proved, a few times, he can whip the ball in on the move. I’ve seen much worse first Parkhead starts
Nygren is very difficult to mark, as he constantly moves to the place that offers the most space. Showed another string to his bow by finishing with his right, and also taking it first time
Yang looks a different player this season ..seems to be more relaxed and is coming to it his shell more. He also appears to be working on the one thing I was critical of – he’s much more vocal.
Duran will be the bargain of this season, maybe the best bargain since Feyenoord thought Henrik Larsson was only worth £600k. Plus, his teef are more dazzling than our stadium lighting.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed last night. I don’t like to use words like easy, as we work hard to earn everything we get, always have, but last night was as close to easy as we’re likely to get this season. I think that’s something like 30 games unbeaten against the Dons.
I just wouldn’t understand what there was to be negative about the game, or any of the 16 players on show. Sorensen and the Chelsea lad up front look like good additions, while I can’t wait to see the Dutch lad.
I’m excited to see what this Celtic team can become.

Hi San Luis:
I think there may be a limit on foreign players.
If there were not, I would have left out Ralston and McCowan in favour of Emenalo and Van Der Berg.
And I would have replaced Tounekti with Mheuka, even although we will miss Yang for a while.

INIQUITOUS IV😊
Took in something in the region of £55m, and added around a tasty £20m to the mountain of money we already had, due to Only spending £35m
I always ask what difference it makes to me that we are cash rich, seeing as I’d much rather see a chunk of it spent on an experienced no6, and I realise it makes little difference to me that we seem to always achieve our goal of profiting from every window .
It’s absolutely shameful the length of time we’ve went without a single defensive minded midfielder at the club. For a club our size it’s embarrassing! Imagine Liverpool or Man U fans accepting their clubs not having a no6 since their captain retired something like 5 years ago.
No big club, not one serious football club you can name, would go this amount of time without one of the most important positions on a football pitch. Some positions require a specialist and are too important to ignore ..anchoring the middle is one of those positions.
I wish Desmond and his board were just incompetent, even incompetents would stumble into a defensive midfielder, especially if given 5-6 years to find one. And I’m not buying the daft idea it’s got anything to do with Callum.
Callum tries to get away with jockeying everyone, and trying to nick the ball off their toes, when sometimes a crunching tackle is what’s needed. Callum would have had an even better career and stats, if he’d been left as an 8-10 ..he’d also have turned into a £50m player.
Think of the difference a really good DM would have made to our results and bank balance over the last 5 years .
Second leg v Lask doesn’t turn out the way it did , I’m confident of that.
This is how crucial that position is.
*MOTM Results*
I’m going to slightly delay issuing the latest results until full time in the Edinburgh Derby. So they should be out around 9.45pm. sencelpoty@gmail.com

If you prepare properly for Europe, the domestic game looks after its self.
