No Excuses
Morning, all.
Tell you what, I hate doing match reviews after a performance like yesterday. Especially when we could all see it coming, and had done for a while. We’ve spent bloody ages on here moaning about how weak our midfield is, so the manager beefs it up with bodies. Problem is, a couple of those bodies should be nowhere near a Celtic jersey. But there they were, and here we are.
We started off a lot stronger and more aggressive than last week, forcing a few early (useless) corners and a booking for Fernandez and McInnes. But normal service was resumed, with Beaton ignoring anything in blue-including a clear second yellow when Fernandez hauled down Nygren who would have been through on goal, and a handball thankfully picked up by VAR for a second away goal. Plus all of his usual antics, including waving play on when Sterling kicked the ball straight at Duran’s head as he lay on the ground after a tackle. Walsh on VAR wasn’t going to pick that up, as he’d ignored one similar last week.
But once again, the lack of balance in the team was glaring. We were nominally three at the back, with Donovan and Tierney joining the middle men. Problem is, Donovan had no cover in front of him and CCV doesn’t have the pace to deal with a speedy winger, so the five in midfield plan was strangled at conception.
And let’s be brutally honest, the only midfielder who could hold his head high after that game was Baur. The rest stunk the place out. McGregor passed more often to blue jerseys than hooped ones, and McCowan held onto the ball just long enough to lose every challenge he faced. Tierney tried manfully down the left, and even crashed one off the bar early on, but faded badly as the game progressed. Here’s a wee Top Tip for you, Kieran. If you can’t last ninety minutes for your club, you shouldn’t be accepting international call ups. The three weeks ahead of us could be spent much more fruitfully working out a fitness regime to get you that wee bit closer to what you were. Not on a jolly jamboree abroad wi yer pals.
Anyway, the goal when it came was all too familiar. We hit the bar, they break. Ball breaks loose in the D to an unmarked player who rattles it. This time, Sinisalo saved it but they score the rebound. And it all came about because Beaton ignored a clear Kelsy handball, and we couldn’t clear our lines. Cue the sly smirk.
The interval brought Høgh on for McCowan, but it also meant Duran being stuck on the wing. And speaking of wingers,we ended up with THREE of them on the pitch. Can’t get too much of a good thing, huh? We actually gave it a good go in the last ten or fifteen minutes, but by then we were kidding ourselves on. We could have played all day and not scored. Fuxake, we could have stayed on the pitch at half time and still not scored. Might as well have done too for all the good the legendary pep talk did.
It’s been an awful week, three games that we’ve never once looked like winning. We have a mixture of good, bad and indifferent players. Some who simply are not good enough, some who just need a rub of the green, one or two whose future is well behind them. That’s not a squad that is anywhere near good enough for ANY European competition, and is struggling to cope with the domestic stuff. We are miles short of where we were only a couple of years ago, and more like a clapped out old Lada than a Honda Civic. Dreams of watching a Ferrari purr along at Celtic Park are about as likely to happen as one being parked in my driveway.
Our moustachioed heid honcho managed to shift the blame for all of last year’s problems onto our manager at the time, whose only crime was to publicly point out the paucity of quality in the squad. The usual suspects queued up to put the boot in as well, and I wonder what they are all thinking at the moment. BR complained that he was being obstructed in his efforts to improve the squad. MON has made similar, though less spectacular, claims. We have lost three games in eight days, and to sides which should never have been able to lay a glove on us. And wouldn’t, if the Plc was the least bit interested in the alleged core business of the club. We face an uphill struggle in Europe with a squad which is chronically short of quality, and are now only two points clear of the Ibrox mob.
Not because they are a good team. They aren’t. But because we have been systematically shorn of quality right across the board. And speaking of boards, it is our board who are responsible for the squad being short, but O’Neill has to take responsibility for the players he put on the pitch. As for the players themselves, they should be forced to watch the last three games a la Clockwork Orange until the very thought of performing that badly again has them screaming for mercy.
An international break has never been so welcome, words I thought I’d never say.

Star…good for you too, mate! Another snidey remark, you just can’t help yersel! I enjoyed my day and hated the Derby.

I get that once the FS are out, we will have more information. But Im still struggling with the aim of NAPM – to buy better players? force a regime change? To force the club to address cheating? Something else?
I realize this is not a Union, so there may be many reasons why people support NAPM, and many different goals… but on the evidence so far, I am struggling to get what people are hoping to accomplish, and how NAPM is expected to accomplish that.
I just finished a fan experience questionnaire which was sent to me via the Eintracht App. They know I attended because it’s all done digitally over the app.
Questions ranged from
Travel to and from stadium
Signposts towards seating
Catering
Toilet hygiene
Waiting times
Pre and post match entertainment
Retail outlets
Prices
Safety
Child experiences
Club memberships
Value for money
And a section for complaints.
Apart from one of the children I was with standing in horse shit while he was holding a paper tray of chips in one hand and a sausage in the other. I had no complaints. Yes I cleaned the horse shit from his shoes. Luckily I had two packets of handy andies

No roses in your garden then?
I recognize this week, passions are flaring, so this may not be the easiest time for such a discussion. But sometimes, it is when people feel most passionately that you more quickly get to the true positions.
McCaff
You can justify it, or rationalise it to yourself any way you like.
But the only thing that will get Dermot out is to stop buying a season ticket.
If you and 50 odd thousand others continue to give him the only thing he cares about (your money) then he’ll continue to do what he’s been doing.
He told the world that Rangers are a great club who we needed.
His idiot boy told us they are incapable of and not interested in making any progress in Europe.
They sell off our best players at the first opportunity.
They undermine any manager who attempts to show a crumb of ambition.
The performance at the AGM showed just how little they think of us peasants.
They are only interested in the Old Firm Punch and Judy show.
And it seems you and 50 odd thousand others are happy to go along with it.
So whether you like it or not you are paying into and contributing to the Old Firm spectacle.
Because that’s the business model Dermot Desmond has chosen.
Star…I neither rationalise or justify it, I don’t have to! I do it because I want to, I enjoy it. It isn’t that difficult to understand. Nor does it mean I think the Club is well run or the fitba is always brilliant.
McCaff,
Oh I do pay attention. Maybe one or two are a bit less subtle about it but it’s a fact.
In theory, it’s the only way to rid ourselves of the rats on the board but there’s no expectations of any ST holder doing it. ( unless mibees Lenny gets the gig)
I subscribe to the NAPM but I can’t see it doing any formidable damage.
The fact that the Collective were considering stopping the campaign cause they thought we’d brought in some decent players, makes me wonder if they even believe it’s making a difference.
At a guess, had we beat the Huns in the cup and also yesterday to go 8 points clear regardless of the performances, I’m quite sure NAPM would have been dumped or put on hold.
McCaff
Like I said, good for you.
I really do hope you enjoyed your Old Firm day out.
You paid for it, so you should enjoy it.

two cents worth.
with regards to NAPM campaign.
This is just my opinion, while attending matches, and having dozens of relatives and friends who also attend.
NAPM for me, is just too emotional, and not concentrated enough. If the desired outcome is regime change, then how do you measue the success of the campaign ? what is the measurements for success ? The principal shareholder hasnt budge on anything, the executives are still there.
Less merch being sold ? The plc might report it different in the upcoming yearly report.
Less pie being sold ? Close a stall, reduce the hours for staff.
Season holders coming off the Home ticket scheme ? fine raise prices for general sale, remove concessions, sell 5,000 at £43 rather than £23 kids tickets, fine and dandy.
In my immediate circle not a single person did not renew season books. Uptake was in fact over 99%.
The only thing, we think might have made a difference was the two friendlies in the summer, very poorly attended. Might have raised an eyebrow.
Sure there is a lot of dissenters , but they are not united, there is no figure head to back , a modern day Matt McGlone is needed .
Ironically, the PLC is accused of not having joined up strategies, I feel the same for the support.
If chance isnt imminent (we will find out with who stands for re-election at the agm) only picking a game NOT TO ATTEND , will effect change.
again imho.
As a buy the way, many of the support on thrusday were a disgrace, Abusing KT and Callum is disgusting.
I didnt go yesterday, this international 3 weeks, give a colling off period.
Some clarification
Giving money to Celtic PLC currently is a mistake. A compromise may be to go to the game on an ad hoc basis if its possible. I will maintain that buying a Celtic season ticket is akin to ratifying Celtic PLC policies/strategies and a rubber stamp of the Old Firm.
Desmond is raging.
He sent a text to Callum McGregor, going absolutely through him, and told him to pass on the message to the rest of the team that these performances aren’t acceptable.
McGregor passed it on to Sinisalo, who passed it to Scales, who passed it to McGregor, who passed it back to Scales again, who passed it out of play.

thanks for your thoughts. Some stuff in there for me to chew on. May have a follow up question or two.
The binary viewpoints expressed by the Season Ticket detractors leave no room for discussion nor alternative viewpoints. There’s plenty of differing reasons for going, unfortunately they hold no store on here!
And the snidey stuff is just nonsense and childish and achieves nothing other than making you feel smarter about yersel. I reckon, Star! Good on you!
Supporters will not stop buying season tickets as long as there is a waiting list because they know their tickets will be snapped up and they may never get them back.
This is the reason the board refuse point blank to redevelope the south stand. Increase capacity by up to 15000 and the waiting list disappears and so does the boards control over season ticket holders. A boycott comes into play. It just doesn’t make financial sense not to increase capacity. We have the money in the bank to fund it.
Sevco’s owners have said that they are considering increasing capacity and if this happens then our board may be forced into action.
Westcraigs,
Sounds plausible. Although, at the same time, can you imagine a board willing to put the fans first and give us a team to compete in Europe and an upgraded 75k seater with 5 star facilities and an external infrastructure to match? I think we’d still have a waiting list once the 70k ST’s were snapped up, such is the pull.
McCaff has already proved that point, even when we are in the state we are in. Why this current board can’t envisage that is a mystery. Can only be some form of shenanigans in progress.
Westcraigs
pick a game. a Europa tie , or the Scottish cup, and let it be known,
this fixture we will not attend. make a statement why.
We might be out of Europe before we play our last home League phase game,
Ask the support not to attend. Ask general sales buyers not to buy.
State exacly what regime change means.
I rarely post as I prefer lurking but the season ticket thingy piqued me.
I think ST holders should be able to renew their books & attend if they want to. I also believe that not renewing STs is the only way to achieve meaningful change at the club. Nowadays people want change without really changing anything ie no sacrifice.
So I reckon if you want change sacrifice is required but if you just want to maintain attendance for the social aspect then that’s fine but nothing will materially change.
Nae need for any argy bargy.
Dermot & the jersey shrinkers deserve our ire not each other.
Ultimately a PLC without customers will cease to exist.
The choice is for customer to finance a PLC whose practices are unpopular to keep in existence.
Variation of how their conduct is viewed and unfettered loyalty shape the timeline of how long a business continues to use unpopular practices.
There also can be events that change the narrative.
A high risk strategy but the cash pile makes sense as a defensive strategy that buys PLC more time.
Having an hugely wealthy investor in control also allows PLC to act with less care in how fan base sees them.
A difficult path lies ahead for the football club and its supporters.

We are shite and we know we are!
Let me recall my introduction to Celtic…I was 4 years old and we never WN any trophy till I was 12. Now that was shite but , firstly I didn’t know it and secondly, I didn’t care. I was watching the famous Glasgow Celtic. We were famous even then as league and cup winners, including Big Packy’s favourite team for reciting, but, we still lost games.
If you’re just into supporting winning teams you’re at the wrong gig.
We are really down at the minute and can’t see an out- well we can but DD’s blocking the exit.
God looks after his own they say but he must be hellish busy just now!

Btw just ignore all the give up your season ticket shite. Some things are more precious than their actual value. If you’ve nothing else to leave when the Big Man calls you your family will cherish your ST. And, tell them they bloody better not give it up.
Mark 3.12pm.
Excellent post
I agree that a total boycott is the only way, but until such numbers(30%+) are feasible, then it’s maybe just possible folk whove paid for this season will pick the games they want and avoid the rest. It sends the same message but obviously the cash is banked.
Bit of a way to go yet until it gets so bad, I’m talking three or four seasons without silverware.
something else bothers me a lot.
i get that families with season books are not for ever giving it up
someone passes on every effort is made to retain that seat with another family member. happens in ours .
but the thousands of lost shareholders doesnt seem to garner attention from families.
if i thought for a moment my granda father or uncles had shares i would do my damndest to find out .
why are there 20000 odd lost shareholders not voting
those questions from the csl for the agm are very good .
lets see if they get the opportunity to ask them
McCaff, Cosy Corner Bhoy et al.
You are all more than welcome to keep attending games.
You all obviously don’t need me to tell you that.
But as far as I knew this was an open forum where people could freely express their views.
So when people post comments pissing and moaning about lack of investment, tactical ineptitude and no ambition etc then surely others are free to point out that by purchasing a season ticket they are contributing directly to the situation.
None of you can offer a reasoned rebuttal.
McCaff for example just says he finds it tiresome/boring. Oh well. Don’t read my comments then. Just remember you name checked me in this.
Cosy Corner Boy offers ‘we’re shite amd we know we are ‘ and then an empty platitude about keeping the faith. This is precisely why the supporters keep getting exploited.
So by all means, pay your money, go to the games and enjoy your beloved Old Firm rivalry.
But don’t get all faux outraged when someone points out the bleeding obvious to you.
Fernandez committed 4 fouls in the first 20 minutes yesterday.
2 of them were at least yellow and could have been red.
It could be argued his 1st foul could’ve been red, a raised arm across Duran to block his run into the box.
The yellow for his 2nd foul should’ve gone to VAR for review and a red given.
His 3rd when already on a yellow for simulation is not even debatable and neither is the 4th for a blocking foul on Nygren as he attempted to break inside from the left.
All of these offences occurred at 0-0.
The Huns going down to 10 would’ve had a material impact on the game.
Like the Covid season, the fix is in!
San Luis
“Bit of a way to go yet until it gets so bad, I’m talking three or four seasons without silverware”
Here’s the thing though, it shouldn’t be in decline at all. A fully functioning coaching set up could be implemented tomorrow. It might take the rest of this season to get it working well. It’s not as if it’s the nineties and we are skint. We shouldn’t be in this position. We should be enjoying watching a good team, performing to their full potential, win lose or draw. We shouldn’t be arguing amongst ourselves on how to force these caaaants hands.
Been told:
MON checked out of the Dakota where he’s been living since he came back.
(Could be because of international break of course.)
Lenny’s now 1/5 on.
I’ve checked and, hard as it is to believe, it is for the manager job and not centre mid.
Star…i have no idea what your circumstances are – if you used to attend and don’t now, and if so when you gave it up. I don’t need to know and you dont need to know my circumstances but for the sake of the discussion I’ve laid it plain. Theres no faux outrage just a comment that your comments don’t need to be snidey and cheap, we are all adults on here after all. Also, I dont remember telling you what you can and can’t say, my first post this morning accepted the differing views.
You seem to be taking umbrage at us having the audacity to attend games but also moan about the situation! That was my point earlier when I said the binary opinions make difficult discussion or acceptance of differing views.
McCaff
I thought the foul on Nygren4th was ignored as Beaton knew it was a 2nd yellow.
We are being cheated on a consistent basis by this SFA approved ref.
Why the club does nothing about is the question.
Hard to disprove but don’t think Huns going down to 10 would have changed the game as our coaches never seem to have any reaction or ability to react to what’s happening on field of play.
3 defeats in a row and in all 3 games the scoreline flatters us. We got off lightly.
The future looks bleak. The only thing we can say with any degree of certainty is that the board will remain defiantly in place. We have kick-started servo’s season after their disastrous start.
This last week has seen a seismic shift in the power struggle in Glasgow. Up until last week we were laughing at their manager, their signings, their start in the league and their embarrassing performances in Europe. Who’s laughing now? They are!
Derek has embarrassed Martin to the extent that Martin cannot survive. Their American owners have shown up our board and our board’s total lack of ambition. If normal business standards applied the people on our board would be looking for employment elsewhere. Sevco’s players look stronger and fitter than our players and most of their recent signings are contributing whilst more of ours are missing in action.
Hopefully, Dermot is looking for a way out and that is the reason we are padding the bank account, although the way he is running the club doesn’t make sense to me. Our financial success depends almost entirely on champions league group stage qualification. Failure to qualify in the last two seasons means our turnover and bank balance have taken a hit. Maybe Dermot could explain why we consistently fail to back our managers. Whoever we replace Martin with will face the same problems.
I wish our new manager good luck.

The share issue was obviously a big thing for us of a certain age back in 94. However, once bought and our bit done to save the club, most of us put the certificate and prospectus in a drawer. It may have been mentioned over the initial years in conversation with family and friends ….but that would be it.
Now I ,I’ve moved six times since 94, and updated the register every time, but I can understand how a piece of paper can get mislaid or thrown out in a house clearance.
A physical season ticket that needs to be renewed every year is a different concept entirely. Firstly you need £600 to ensure you keep it, secondly, everyone in your family knows you have it.

as you may recall, I was a theologian before I did the law thing …
so I asked Jesus your question, and He said to me, and I quote, “I ain’t giving those fuckers another penny. And also, I dont talk to Dermott, but if you see him, tell him there’s not a chance in Hell that he’s getting in here!”
Hello All:
Some very good ideas floated on here this morning.
FAN’s idea of comprehensive Celtic camera coverage of the whole field is a good one. Anyone who watches an NFL game where a receiver apparently scores a touchdown in the corner but there is doubt whether he got the ball down a millisecond before going out of bounds will be familiar with the amazing technology used to make the correct decision almost instantaneously.
Its use would make a mockery of VAR technology in other grounds. Awareness of its existence would cut down the likes of ludicrous ‘Red card, red card Ross’ offside flags at our ground, if not at others. That would be an advantage to the PLC, but probably insufficient to persuade them on the capital outlay and camera operator wages. Worth pursuing though.
I support the NAPM campaign. If I extrapolate what I have typically paid for lettered jerseys, particularly for kids ( who of course outgrow them ) to an estimate of the Celtic support who buy merchandize, the potential loss to the PLC is considerable, because as we all know, the Celtic Shop prices for tiny kids lettered jerseys is outrageous. As SAINT STIVS has said, they might try to disguise it in the accounts, but I think that would prove difficult, as up to recently, I think we were in the Adidas top ten in the world for shirt sales.
SAINT STIVS idea of picking ONE game to boycott is also a good idea. A home game on National TV with tens of thousands of empty seats would definitely send a message.
Maybe FAN’s cameras could zoom in on MCCAFF sitting wondering “Whaur is a’body?” 🤣
OK, MCCAFF, only kidding. 😊
On Neil Lennon odds shortening, a wee story that I may have told on here before. When Lennon replaced Rodgers on an interim basis, then won the Cup Final against Hearts, the erstwhile DCCSC was celebrating noisily in a thronged Irish pub in Bethesda. Post game, the cameras were focused on Despot, Lawwell, Bankier and other Board members clustered standing with their heads together in the Executive box. Shortly thereafter, the announcement was made that Lennon had been appointed ‘permanent’ manager.
The effect on the pub was amazing. From a bedlam of noise, it suddenly went silent, as if a pall had been thrown over it. It was like a collective Aw FFS!
Celtic fans frequently disagree, this morning’s blog a case in point, but it seemed we had unanimity that it was a really poor decision. Turned out we were correct.
I like Neil Lennon, although I dislike intensely his craven reluctance to criticize the Board. If they re-appoint him, they are guaranteeing that a season threatening to be like the Covid disaster will indeed turn into one.

He’d buy a defensive midfielder.
Really don’t think Martin will resign so will need to sacked.Does anyone see this happening?
Anybody know what happened here?
IQ4…when Beaton booked Fernandez for his 4th minute challenge on Duran, McInnes went aff his heid at the 4th official. Fotheringham then had a go at McInnes and the 4th official reported it to the ref. I dont know the significance of McInnes holding 3 fingers up because Fernandez had only committed 2 bookable offences by that stage – mibbe he was saying he’s usually allowed 3 bad fouls before he gets booked!

Couldn’t believe the mess the Club was in when he came arrived.
Players weren’t fit.

Players 14 through 18 were just not good enough.
They couldn’t think for themselves on the pitch and needed constant direction.

For Martin’s health and state of mind i hope he does resign. This cant be good for him.
Fan,
Program does all that stuff. It records the data and provides reports and summaries from a team and individual perspective. You can also run simulations etc. Off course the more you pay the more sophisticated it can become. It can interact with an instrumented ball and optical camera systems if you want a more refined system. Normally those are installed in training complexes.
As you say it all costs money. I reckon we will have the no frills version
