Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves
The release of our annual accounts were very timely. They dropped as this blogs posters were debating Not Another Penny Campaign, the Collective had also done likewise, and of course they came just as we also experience a genuine and very alarming downturn on the field of play.
It’s worth mentioning those numbers would have been known in late July/early August.
What’s the point?
There’s several points when thats taken into account.
Faced with a significant drop and with about a month of the transfer window our executives were faced with major decisions namely what do we do?
Stabilize and slowly grow back then surpass the previous highpoint,,,
Curtail spending or spend very little,,,
Flex the financial muscle and jointly entice more supporter revenue, TV revenue, while stocking up on future player sales income via recruitment?
I insist most CEO”s in football would opt for the third option especially given the amount in the bank. We opted for the second and thats where the domino’s fall into place.
I thought we had bought well upto LASK, but like everyone felt it faded out after that even though some might turn out to be good footballers. That result, the accounts, and opting for that second option above essentially holed our campaign under the hull.
Martin is the man left holding the can, we also suffer to an extent, but he was hit with that double whammy in the space of a couple of weeks, bad accounts mean much less to spend unless he hits, the CL,,,then he doesn’t and realizes thats about it.
I often thought, and its been commented on, that it was almost as if a switch was flicked and our flame was extinguished. I now believe that double whammy floored football operations entirely.
It explains a lot of our transfer activity, like watching Sigur and Mahmic go to lesser alternatives. Like the board not being as keen on Genetis as the manager, per reports from Italy. Option 2, curtail spending and instead of about 15m to reinforce the midfield with three good players, we spent 4 on one and took two for free.
Option B, curtailing spend if the figures slide, more or less insures another Option B next season. The accounts aren’t going to suddenly leap in July’27, and now the heart has gone TV and prize income will decrease, as will player value, as will supporter income.
Option B just cost the bank balance 11 million smackeroonies.
You know this by now, but here’s my point, they cannot keep spending the bank account, which would be the result of Option B annually,,,faced with the backdrop of having to spend the bank account to not even stay still but get left behind, Option B must be abandoned.
Nobody especially Dermot would be silly enough to just save 77m and watch it dissappear, that would be unprecedented in football. 5 seasons of Option B would eat that cash in the bank, then who is paying the debt because Dermot won’t.
Besides all this would collapse the shareprice and the shareholders wouldnt allow that. As would Dermot doubling down and just reducing the quality slowly until we are the equivalent of a Sheffield Wednesday playing infront of 15k in League Two at 50k Hillsborough. Again, the money men just won’t watch their spoils dissappear.
Yup Option B must and shall be binned. The alternative is to avoid even facing Option B in the first place and coincidentally not long before the accounts were due a man who would known what they contained typed out an email asking to meet the Collective.
Brian Wilson would not have made that decision solo, he been ordered to and we all know who gave that order.
I find this very telling. Last season “we” were scum on the verge of knifing someone, apparently we are responsible for nobody joining the board (as if some well intentioned foreigner would care), now “we” are “invited” back onside as soon as they gulp at the figures and surely realize that Elite Level Adidas bonus will soon put a further dent in the coffers. This meeting (and I await the summary) was aimed not at unity but at finance returning, in my humble opinion.
What they offered as a carrot I’m dying to find out but apparently the world class club with a successful strategy have cottoned onto the terrible fact that they need us.
I hope they quickly realize we neither need nor want them.

Doubtless will be appealed all the way to Supreme Court and the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Wonder if the Court of Justice of the European Union has any jurisdiction since some of the alleged offences occurred pre-Brexit and EU clubs may have been adversely affected in the Champions League?
Ultimate decision by 2050, no doubt.

Hi SAINT:
Thanks for posting the twin deluded works of fiction from the twin parasites. I agree with your comment above.
I haven’t seen any comment on it so far, although I may have missed it, but I believe the Celtic share price in June reached 260p or so. I just checked and it is now 175p. That’s a big drop, about one third, in value. With our direction of travel, it appears likely that the club valuation will plummet a lot further. Any thoughts on how this serves Despot?

I posted on the other channel , something that no-one wants to discuss or think about.
What if the 32% share price fall,(circa 170p) means DD rather than selling up actually just goes all in.
Fed up with negative comments and agitators, from his persepective he says, hoover up the shares, get LT to sell to him, offer everybody else the same, take the company private.
We are led to believe he is spiteful and vindictive, he could do it if he wanted.
Create a dynasty and say to the rest, well its ma ba.

Hi SAINT:
Boy! That’s an interesting Machiavellian theory! Despot sabotaging his own company to hoover up shares on the cheap? I don’t have any market knowledge to make any comment on its probability, but nothing would surprise me any more about that megalomaniac.

An old old joke.
An intergalactic traveller from Mars, whose skin happened to be bright Orange, was traversing the universe, studying conflict and war. He spotted a trouble spot on the wee blue planet and decided to investigate. Landing near the conflict Zone, Garvaghy Road in Norn Ireland, he approached one of the indigenous sentient beings (humans). The local startled and just havin’ the shit scared out of him by an orange-skinned alien shouts ‘where da feck did you come from’? Our intrepid space explorer replies, ‘I’m a Martian’ to which the local screams back, ‘Yer no feckin marchin’ down this road ya Orange prick’

When it comes to determining independence, it’s not a question of whether they can think for themselves or some subjective test, rather whether you can, in objective sense, be considered to be independent.
It’s the same reason that 9 years is recommended as the maximum term – the directors don’t (or shouldn’t) stop thinking for themselves, rather it is a recognition that individuals working together for that length of time could develop a relationship whereby the checks and balances required by the role can no longer be carried out to the standard required.
‘So all these people align with DD resolutions. Every resolution get 97%+ vote and less than 3% against.’
They requested a poll – that’s why the numbers are so high. It’s not 97% of all shareholders in Celtic. It’s 97% of all shareholders (by share held) present in the room. There are thousands of Celtic shareholders who are not in the room.
Extract of Articles for reference:
on a poll, every Shareholder who is entitled to vote on the resolution and who is present in person or by a duly appointed proxy shall have one vote for every share he holds. A Shareholder entitled to more than one vote need not, if he votes on the poll (whether person or by proxy), use all his votes or cast all the votes he uses in the same way.

The Buchanan fella, mibbies.
As to the 97 v 3. I know how it works, thanks.
I blame the shareholders who didnt care enough to update the share register when changing address.
Been saying for years that money was gonna ruin the game ..well it’s certainly a big turn off. With what’s happening with MC, I’ve just read that Man U have borrowed another £90m and are now in £1.2b in debt …over a billion pounds!
As if there aren’t already enough reasons to be falling out of love with the game, we now have the biggest clubs running up the kind of debt that’s going to see some of the world’s best known clubs struggle to prosper, maybe even survive.
The beautiful game doesn’t appear to be so beautiful anymore!
🎶 Money money money ..always funny ..in a rich rat’s world 🎶
ps.
you personally the shareholder doesnt need to be in the room to get a vote cast, just someone there in proxy, like the trust, the csl or whoever.
Sure DD can even get his son to turn up for him.

Roy Keane turns up as a spectator at a Celtic game. A couple of days later he gives an interview saying he would consider returning to management if he got a phone call.
He’s Irish. He played for Celtic. DD has got his number. He knows the Coolmore Mafia. He used to be MON’s assistant.
I reckon we are about to see him come in as MON’s assistant while Sean + co get kicked. It will then be announced as the planned succession plan that allows MON to step back from the firing line.
Roy Keane states he could do a job for many clubs as manager. Will he enter club management again?

More than a decade ago, I said on CQN and elsewhere that the I saw whole 5WA scam was rather like Watergate: It’s not the actual crime that is the real undoing; it is the cover up that kills you.
I said at the time that It wasnt the decision to keep R****s alive and kicking that would prove to be Celtic’s undoing, so much as Celtic’s participation in the cover up. Once you do a secret deal with crooks, they own you. After getting in to bed with the zombies, Celtic were so compromised they were afraid to speak up fr fear of being ‘outed’ by their co-conspirators. Hence the typical ‘take it on the chin’ approach adopted by Celtic.
Now that those invoilved in the zombie side have left the building, the zombies have less to fear. However, the whiff of corruption still lingers, and the fear of being outed, hangs over Celtic Park as those same people (or their flunkies) still call the shots at Celtic Park. DD has never seemed too bothered by being accused of misconduct (he just denies it and continues doing it), so he’ll just keep doing what he always did. But the pretence of rivalry and honest competition probably militates against honesty and transparency until the present Board is gone for the simple reason that It is hard to keep up the pretence of OF rivalry, which is needed to sell season tickets, if the two clubs are seen to be colluding/in bed together behind the scenes.
I also said that Celtic would benefit in the short term, (that’s how they get you hooked) but would suffer in the long term for its complicity in the scam, but that it would take about a decade for the effects of those boardroom shenanigans to really start to show up on the field.
We are pretty much bang on schedule.
Things that have happened (or not happened in the case of Celtic not speaking out) since have only strengthened my view that I was right back then.
Something weird going on. After Egypt announcing Hassan was not in squad due to injury, he is announced in the lineup vs Angola? He was just subbed after 62 minutes. Of course, the BBC could have screwed up. It has been known to happen.

Loved Roy Keane as a player. Still one of my favourite ever. His performance in The CL semi against Juve was one of the best ever. Think he is fun as a pundit. But thought he was terrible as a manager. Fallen out with people every where he has gone. If you think NFL got in trouble for saying what he thought, Keane would make him look like a choirboy! He’d be suspended more than he managed.
but he would sell season tickets. The only question is whether MON can hang on until close to ST renewal time ….

I’ve always pursued the line that Lawwell was outsmarted by vested interests, just when he thought he was firmly in control of the situation. After all, the evidence was plain for all to see. And there were laws, weren’t there?
The 5WA was never meant to see the light of day, but it did. On here, as a matter of fact. The source made no secret of his identity then, and I’m very grateful to him. But the events leading up to the 5WA agreement, and since, showed Lawwell in a bad light, which would never do. He always has to be the smartest guy in the room.
Had he simply explained to everyone what had happened, that he’d been outsmarted, outthought and outgunned-Hands up, I fucked up!-I think we’d have accepted that. Nope, he wasn’t man enough for that, even lying to the AGM about it.
He wasn’t brought to book as he should have been for that offence, but I think it damaged his authority, holing it beneath the waterline. With the covid season following hot on its heels, he was done.
The cover up, as you say. Gets ye every time.

I first saw U2 on tv, summer of 81 supporting SLF at Queens in Belfast. I was mesmerised, and bought Boy the next time I was in Glasgow. And every album after that, until Zoo. I was a bit picky after that, they were no longer the band that I saw back then.
But for a decade and more, they were the best band around. Not many can boast that long before tapering off. Thanks for the reminders.

Roy Keane did have a habit of falling out with others. Probably still does. But that’s because he has high expectations in regard to professionalism. He can accept you not being good enough, just not on his team!
I would have him at Celtic Park for two reasons. He’d rip through every boardroom misstep like a tornado. And he’d do the same to our players on the trading ground, which would be a holiday camp and health spa no longer.

had Celtic come out and said ‘they did wrong, they should lose the tainted titles, but they are an important part of Scottish football, and other football team, e.g. Fiorentina, have been liquidated and continued on, and made a Business case for why R**s were good for Celtic’s business’, i dont think any of us would have been thrilled, but i think most of us ultimately would have understood and accepted the decision.
and it was a once in a lifetime chance to reset Celtic, if not all of Scottish football.
by instead to trying to raise the game up, Celtic decided to get down in the dirt, and instead of seizing the opportunity to try to improve the game, it has declined since.
We’ll likely never know DD’s initial reasoning, and at this point, DD’s reasoning no longer really matters, as even if his motives at the outset were genuine (i was told at some point that Celtic believed the zombies would be chastened and become better corporate citizens), the complicity in the cover up made all of that largely immaterial …
at least that is how i see it
Belmont Brian, Zanzibar’s was still called Tiffany’s when I saw U2 there in December 1982 (1st or 2nd , I’d have to check). Joint best concert I’ve been to, up there with Jeff Buckley at the garage in Feb 95.

Mulbartin’s FAvCup qualifier win over Wootford Town’s has been ordered to be replayed after the ref was found to have made a mistake. Woodford scored from a penalty, but the ref said that a Woodford player had been inside the 18n yard box, and instead of awarding a goal, the ref gave Mulbartin a free kick. On appeal, the panel held that the proper recourse should have been to order the penalty to be retaken.

In response to today’s ruling, Man City have announced that they will n to be contesting the findings. However, going forward they will be renamed as THE Man city, and as such, will not be responsible for any fines and/or penalties incurred by the club known as Man City.
